Why King’s?

Classes led by outstanding faculty are central to the King’s experience. First year class sizes at King’s are small by university standards with an average between 50-60 students per class. King’s students are Western students and have complete access to all facilities, services, and athletics at Western. They can take some of their courses at Western’s main campus or Huron. Most importantly, King’s students graduate with a Western degree.

King’s common first year provides economics and finance students an opportunity to study within

their chosen field of study while still receiving a broad liberal arts foundation. By third and fourth year, students engage with specialized curriculum tailored to their chosen Program(s) of study; be it economics, finance, financial economics, and/or a combination of programs offered by different faculties. Students wishing to pursue graduate studies complete an undergraduate thesis mentored by a faculty member and all students have the option of working toward an industry recognized designation in part through their academic studies. They can also participate in Western’s internship and study abroad opportunities to enhance their academic and student experience.

Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS)

First year BMOS students take a common core of Math, Economics, and Business and then select 2.0 elective courses based on their areas of interest and potential Program(s) of study. They specialize into one of four streams beginning in second year. Each stream is linked to a professional designation or certificate program for students intent on working in a specialized field upon graduation.

Internship Program Studies

The BMOS program offers an Industry Internship Program (IIP) for students interested in practical degree-related experience in an employment setting prior to graduation. Internships are available across a broad sector of private and public companies and are aligned with Program(s) of study. Students spend 8 – 16 months working in their chosen industry between the third and fourth years of their degree.

School of Social Work BSW

OUAC Code EKS – admission is into Year 3

Preparation for professional practice in the dynamic and evolving profession of social work begins with the Bachelor of Social Work. Our program includes education for social work practice with individuals, families, groups and communities. The opportunity to develop practice skills is provided through direct experience in a variety of social service and health organizations under professional supervision.

MSW

(Applications to the MSW are completed through Western’s School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies)

Designed to develop and enhance the knowledge and practice skills of social work professionals, our expanded MSW program includes a greater selection of practice-oriented courses and more opportunities to apply theory in real life situations. Two streams are offered: 1-year advanced standing for those with a BSW, and a 2-year program for students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree in another discipline.

King’s has pathway agreements with Western University’s Faculty of Education. Graduates from programs in Catholic Studies for Teachers, Childhood and Youth Studies, French, and Social Justice and Peace Studies who meet the minimum requirements can be considered for one of these pathways.

Transcripts and Required Documents:

After we receive your application, you will receive an acknowledgment email requesting any further documents we need. We must receive supporting documents before we can make an admissions decision.

Students applying to King’s University College from a College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) within Canada must present ONE of the following:

• Completion of a one-year General Arts and Science Certificate, Human Services Foundation Certificate, or Pre-Health Science Certificate with a minimum cumulative average of “B”

• Completion of a two or three-year CAAT diploma with a cumulative average of “B” or better

Admissions Requirement Note:

• Averages quoted are minimum requirements only and does not guarantee admission.

• There may be secondary school level prerequisite courses necessary to be eligible for registration in some King’s courses, or to be eligible for admission to some programs. Please contact the office of Enrolment Services for more information before applying.

Transfer Credit Assessment

Students offered admission from a CAAT will have their applications assessed for transfer credits provided their application meets the following requirements:

• Have a completed, or be in the final year of, a two-year or three-year diploma program at a CAAT.

• Presented a minimum final grade of 60% on each course to be considered for credit.

• Courses must be recognized as covering an acceptable amount of subject matter and meet the academic standards of King’s University College.

• The maximum number of transfer credits available to CAAT applicants is 5.0 credits (equivalent to one year).

CAAT programs that have defined Articulation Agreements may provide more transfer credits. Please see the website for details ontransfer.ca/ index_en.php.

• Credits granted may be either generic/non-specific credits or exact equivalency credits.

• Some transfer credits granted may not fit into a degree dependent on the program of choice. New students should make an appointment with an Academic Counsellor for program planning once admitted.

CAAT Entrance Scholarships

King’s University College offers an unlimited number of CAAT Entrance Scholarships to qualified applicants. Students must remain registered in 4.0 courses and meet King’s residency requirements. Averages and scholarship amounts are listed here.

Making the Transition

King’s is committed to ensuring a smooth transition to university. A wide variety of programming has been established to provide the resources you will need to be successful.

Summer Academic Orientation (SAO)

As of April 1, you can book your summer academic counselling appointment. These academic advising appointments will assist you in making important decisions about your first-year course selection, timetable and degree options/planning.

Be. Become. Belong.

The Be. Become. Belong. series is designed to make the transition to postsecondary as smooth as possible. Programming and resources are designed to ensure students have the necessary tools to help succeed in first year at King’s and beyond. The series is focused on preparing students to transition to university as well as providing support during first year beyond.

KAMP

The King’s Academic Mentoring Program (KAMP) pairs first-year students with an upper-year student who can help navigate the academic, social and spiritual transitions experienced in first year.

Campus Connections

The King’s Campus Connection program welcomes new first-year or first-time students to King’s. It connects students to each other as well as to campus, while educating them on the programs, services and supports available at King’s.

International Student Services

International Peer Guide Program The King’s International Peer Guide Program is designed to assist international and exchange students new to King’s with adjusting to university culture and Canadian life.

International Bridging Program

This program provides an opportunity for international students to transition to life at King’s a week prior to Orientation Week.

Orientation Week

Orientation week is the best way for students new to King’s to feel connected to their new home. O-Week is meant to help you learn how to succeed on campus academically and socially; both in your first year and throughout your university experience.
