Perez Hilton Hollywood’s premiere celebrity blogger shares with us his motivations and perspective on life
- By Bryan Barbosa When we decided to feature Perez on our cover, we wanted to find out a little more about the person behind the gossip and controversy. We asked some insightful questions and discovered a side to him not often revealed. Interview: TVC: Over the years many people including prominent members of the gay community and fellow gossip bloggers have criticized your tactics, in particular your outing of gay celebrities. How do you feel about that? PH: Outing celebrities is something I used to do in the past, which I don't do anymore. Like I have as a person, the website has grown and evolved over the years. We all make mistakes. No one is perfect, but I am
trying to do better. I care about doing better, and I think I am. I also listen to those who criticize me and, of course, believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to voice it loudly. TVC: What would you say is the one major factor that put you in the public eye? PH: Fun! That's one of my big mottos in life: It should be fun! And if it's not fun, then MAKE IT fun! TVC: Sometimes in life it is difficult to find the energy to forge forward, what would you say keeps you motivated day to day, year to year? PH: Results, tangible improvements, and still having fun doing what I do!

magazine TVC: Does blogging still have the same appeal as it did when you first started? PH: Absolutely! I feel blessed that my "job" is something I started as a hobby and is something I'd still be doing, even if I didn't make any money from it! TVC: How do disagreements or conflicts with celebrities affect you personally? Have you developed a strategy on how to put the matters behind you? PH: I tend to like most disagreements with celebrities. Because, as Oscar Wilde said, “The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about!” It goes both ways - for them and me. TVC: We know your name is a play on Paris Hilton, but what made you decide on this name? PH: I liked that it instantly sounded odd and a play on something well known. That's what I've always aimed to offer, a fresh take on celebrity news. TVC: Our readers are predominantly young Latinos; do you view yourself as a Latino? PH: What kind of question is that? Are there Latinos who don't view themselves as such? I was born to two parents who fled Cuba and sought exile in America. I grew up

speaking Spanish and didn't learn English until I was 6 years old. I was raised in Miami. It doesn't get too much more Latino than that! But it has! As the years have gone on, I've actually become even MORE Latino! That's actually quite common for first-generation Americans--to really be super proud of your roots. TVC: With regards to your family, do you find balancing your career and parenthood challenging? PH: Everything is challenging. Easy is a fallacy. But my approach to it all - life, career, fatherhood - is the same. I'm the worker! I work at it! It's about showing up, putting in the hours, the overtime and doing the best job you can! TVC: What is in store for Perez Hilton in the near future? PH: I'm very excited to release my third "Pop Up" music compilation in November. It's kind of my answer to "Now, That's What They Call Music". It's a collection of my favorite songs from new artists you may not know. Be on the lookout for that in November! TVC: Thank you Perez. Sammie Dean, Jerome, AZ. Jerome, is a former coppermining town with a paranormal reputation that dates back to the Wild West. One well-known spirit is the working girl Sammie Dean, a prostitute who was strangled.

Cuban Club, Tampa, Florida. In 1917 this spot was a popular hangout for Cuban immigrants who enjoyed the ballroom. Today, the compound is the setting for ghost stories about spirits playing the piano and riding the elevators.

Fort Mifflin, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Built in 1771. Amongst the ghosts said to haunt the fort are a screaming woman, a faceless man, and a tour guide dressed in revolutionary garb.

Manhattan Bistro, New York. A French restaurant with a notable ghost. Juliana Elmore Sands was killed in this building in 1799 when she was thrown into a well in the basement. Her spirit manifests itself as vapor.

Moon River Brewery, Savannah, Georgia. In its original incarnation, it was the City Hotel, a high-end hotel with a history of violence during the Civil War. Men were killed in the hotel during heated skirmishes.

CURIOSITY ROVER DETERMINES MARS IS LONELY AND FREE OF LIFE The idea of life existing on Mars has been with us for a long time, and people want to believe it. There was mass hysteria in 1938 during a radio adaptation of “War of the Worlds” as people feared Martians had actually landed on Earth. When we got our first pictures of the planet’s dusty barren surface, any hope of shaking hands (tentacles?) with an alien were dashed. But what if there was still life on the microscopic scale? The latest data from NASA’s Curiosity rover would seem to indicate even that is not the case. The rover has found no evidence of sufficient methane to indicate the presence of life.

Rovio ha comenzado a trabajar junto con un equipo de la Universidad de Helsinki para dar a luz a una plataforma que lleva el nombre de Angry Birds Playgrounds. Recientemente, un grupo de científicos del CIDETEC han tenido éxito en donde otros habían fallado: han creado un polímero capaz de reconstruirse a sí mismo. Este mismo grupo comenzó a trabajar con un polímero muy común, el poliuretano. El mismo logró ser exitoso en los experimentos, y tiene una muy buena capacidad de reconstrucción, siendo capaz de recuperar el 97% de su forma original en solamente 2 horas sin ninguna influencia externa.

A space elevator offers to spread the explosive energy of rocket fuel out over time; blasting an object into orbit takes minutes, while a space elevator would probably take days to make the same ascent. First, the backbone for a space elevator would have to be both flexible and strong — we are currently creating the types of materials we would need. Also, it would need to be anchored out in space with a very massive object known as the counterweight so that it can keep the ribbon taught. All these things have been thought out and are a possibility in the not too distant future.

¿PELEA DEL AÑO? Aunque Floyd-Canelo rompió récord de ventas, esta podría ser mejor pelea. Saber esperar y contragolpear es una virtud que no todos llegan a dominar. El mexicano Juan Manuel Márquez es un experto en este campo, tanto dentro como fuera del ring. Quizás por esa razón actúe con normalidad ante el maremoto mediático generado por la pelea entre su compatriota Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez y el estadounidense Floyd Mayweather Jr., que de cierto modo ha opacado su enfrentamiento con el norteño Timothy Bradley, monarca welter del CMB. Ellos se llevaron la arrancada, es indiscutible. Pero 'Dinamita' tiene claro donde ripostar y por ello sigue enfocado en lo suyo: convertirse en campeón
mundial welter y sumar un quinto cinturón absoluto a su palmarés, pues antes había reinado en peso pluma, súper pluma, ligero y súper ligero. No obstante, la procesión va por dentro. Y no es para menos. A sus 39 años es por distancia el mejor púgil azteca y tenía previsto el combate para el 14 de septiembre -- la víspera de la Independencia de México --, fecha que se vio obligado a trasladar para el 12 de octubre. También tuvo que aceptar, pese a venir de noquear espectacularmente al filipino Manny Pacquiao (único que le disputaba a Mayweather la distinción de número uno libra por libra), estar a la sombra de su bisoño compatriota; rol que no suele ser muy reconfortante y mucho menos para un atleta de su alcurnia y que

El gobierno de Washington anunció desde el pasado mes de marzo las nuevas regulaciones que afectan a la denominada Ley del Castigo, para que cónyuges, hijos indocumentados menores de edad y solteros y padres de ciudadanos esperen dentro del país por sus ajustes de estado a residente legal.
PERDÓN PROVISIONAL PARA LA LEY DEL CASTIGO POR PRESENCIA ILEGAL ESTÁ EN VIGENCIA DESDE EL 4 DE MARZO La jefa de la seguridad de Estados Unidos, Janet Napolitano, anunció el cambio por medio de un comunicado. Napolitano explicó que la regla final establece un proceso que permite a ciertos individuos solicitar una exención provisional de presencia ilegal antes de salir de Estados Unidos para asistir a las entrevistas en sus países de origen, todo ello como parte del proceso de obtención de la residencia legal permanente. La previa Ley del Castigo, aprobada
por el Congreso en 1996, sancionaba con tres años fuera de Estados Unidos a indocumentados que permanecieron menos de un año como indocumentados, y elevaba la sanción a 10 años si la estadía ilegal sobrepasaba el año. La nueva regla anula estas penalidades para los cónyuges, hijos menores de edad solteros y padres indocumentados de ciudadanos estadounidenses. El reglamento final “facilita el proceso de inmigración legal y reduce la
cantidad de tiempo que los ciudadanos estadounidenses están separados de sus familiares más cercanos que se encuentran en el proceso de obtener una visa de inmigrante”, dijo Napolitano en el comunicado. EL PROCESO Los beneficiarios con el nuevo reglamento deberán solicitar a la USCIS una exención provisional de presencia ilegal y demostrar que es un pariente inmediato de un ciudadano estadounidense y demostrar
que la denegación de la exención resultaría en dificultades o sufrimiento extremo para su cónyuge o padre. ADVERTENCIAS Napolitano recomendó además cuidarse de los notarios u otros individuos que no están autorizados para practicar el derecho de inmigración y que pueden defraudarlos, pero alegó que sí es recomendable obtener consejo legal de abogados especializados en esta rama.

Es un postre tradicional de Estados Unidos, una receta que se prepara especialmente para celebrar Halloween.
PASTEL DE CALABAZA INGREDIENTES: Para 6-8 personas: • 200 gr. de pasta quebrada • 400 gr. de calabaza • 2 huevos • 400 ml. de leche evaporada • 130 gr. de azúcar moreno • Una cucharada de canela • Una pizca de jengibre • Para decorar: • Mermelada de albaricoque (chabacano) • Nata montada • Avellanas • Frambuesas, grosellas, moras • Azúcar • Hojas de menta
PREPARACIÓN: • Estira la pasta quebrada y forra un molde redondo. Hornea la base hasta que se tueste, aproximadamente 15 minutos a 180-200º C. • Pela la calabaza, retira las pepitas. Envuelve los trozos de calabaza en papel aluminio, luego Introduce en el horno a 180-200º C durante 10-15 minutos o hasta que infle el papel. • Pon en una jarra, la calabaza, los huevos, la leche, el azúcar moreno, la cucharada de canela en polvo y el jengibre. Tritura con una batidora. Sirve la mezcla sobre el molde con la pasta quebrada horneada e introduce nuevamente en el horno a 180ºC, durante 30 minutos. • Desmolda y decora con la nata montada, unas avellanas y una ramita de menta. Para acompañar, pon un poco de azúcar en una sartén, agrega frambuesas, grosellas, moras y unas hojas de menta. Mantén al fuego hasta que el azúcar se derrita y sirve junto al pastel.

Coming Soon EL MUNDO DE "HARRY POTTER" SE EXPANDE Warner Bros. y J.K Rowling anunciaron que el universo mágico de Harry Potter volverá al cine cuando la autora adapte "Animales fantásticos y donde encontrarlos", del ficticio autor Newt Scamander. Computer engineering student Eric Dahl now ranks third in the world of competitive eating as determined by All Pro Eating rankings, though he once held the top spot. Dahl has earned more than $18,000 in prize money or merchandise to help pay for his education. "I'm eating for my education," he said. "It helps me get through." Dahl was drawn to competitive eating in 2011, at the former Big Red's Steakhouse in Madison. VALVE ANNOUNCES STEAM CONTROLLER, "A DIFFERENT KIND OF GAMEPAD." The controller features two circular trackpads. As explained by Valve, "Driven by the player’s thumbs, each one has a high-resolution trackpad as its base. It is also clickable, allowing the entire surface to act as a button. The trackpads allow far higher fidelity input than has previously been possible with traditional handheld controllers.
The idea is to make "whole genres of games that were previously only playable with a keyboard and mouse" easier to play on a TV. "In addition, games like first-person shooters that are designed around precise aiming within a large visual field now benefit from the trackpads’ high resolution and absolute position control." The Steam Controller also features "a new generation of super-precise haptic feedback, employing dual linear resonant actuators. These small, strong, weighted electro-magnets are attached to each of the dual trackpads. They are capable of delivering a wide range of force and vibration, allowing precise control over frequency, amplitude, and direction of movement." Valve continued by explaining that haptics provide "a vital channel of information to the player - delivering in-game information about speed,
boundaries, thresholds, textures, action confirmations, or any other events about which game designers want players to be aware. It is a higher-bandwidth haptic information channel than exists in any other consumer product that we know of. As a parlour trick they can even play audio waveforms and function as speakers." The center of the controller also featured a touch screen, which Valve calls "critical to achieving the controller’s primary goal supporting all games in the Steam catalog. The screen allows an infinite number of discrete actions to be made available to the player, without requiring an infinite number of physical buttons." "The whole screen itself is also clickable, like a large single button," the site explains. "So actions are not invoked by a simple touch, they instead require a click.

Alone in one of the rooms, I picked up my phone and saw a Facebook notification pop-up; my husband had just updated his Facebook status and it read, “The Heavens opened-up today and took back one of its sweetest Angels. Took her way too early. Did not get enough time to play with her, to see her run, or to call me uncle. I hope to one day get that chance, LOVE YOU Bethany.” My heart immediately sank; I threw the phone on the bed. I could not believe it. My baby niece, Bethany,
none of us expected, or knew how to deal with. This led me to ask deeper questions about death. These days I’ve been reading Alan Cohen, Leo Buscaglia and talking a lot to Dr. Sarah Larsen. As a Spiritual person, I know that our soul never dies. Alan Cohen says, “There is no death. What was never born can never die. That which is truly alive lives eternally.” Our physical bodies are simply vessels, but that is not the essence of who we truly are. We have
life who was able to have Bethany communicate with her parents. They talked for close to two hours, and in those two hours, Bethany’s parents truly got that their child was alive more than ever. This brought them an enormous amount of peace and happiness. Recently at a wedding, I overheard a mother complain that her daughter was crying too much. I immediately thought of my sisterin-law, and how she would give anything to hear Bethany cry again. If anything, death should teach us

I was in paradise, aka Sicily, leading my most recent Transformational Journey to Italy. We were in the middle of one of the best days we had had yet: an extraordinary cooking class with a Countess in her majestic Palazzo when I suddenly remembered I had to call my hotel and make some arrangements. had passed away at only 9 months old from a rare disease called “Biliary Atresia” just two days shy from her liver transplant. I went into the room where the cooking class was being held and called my colleague, Dr. Sarah Larsen. “She’s gone!” I told her and I threw myself in her arms, tears streaming down my face. For the next several hours, I cried, screamed, or simply sat in silence. My heart was broken. Having grown up in Sicily, Italy, I learned that family was everything. I watched as all of my cousins marry their childhood sweethearts, have exquisite weddings, buy gorgeous homes and start beautiful families. Their entire lives revolved around good food and family. Every weekend, we would hang out with our close and extended families. I knew that when I grew up, I wanted the exact thing. So I attracted just that: a man with an amazing family (The Gomez) and with the same set of values I have. The Gomez family is very tight. All of our kids are growing up together and we love to hang out almost every weekend. The death of one of our own was something that
a beautiful spirit that lives on for eternity. Cohen continues, “Death has no power over the spirit. Nothing has power over the spirit. We are spiritual beings, and no matter what seems to be happening in the physical world, who we truly are is always very much alive, whole, and in love.” The sacred book, A Course in Miracles, states “Death is the central dream from which all illusions stem. Is it not madness to think of life as being born, aging, losing vitality, and dying in the end?...it is one fixed, unchangeable belief of the world, that all things in it are born only to die…and no one asks if a benign Creator could will this.” Bethany lit up every room she was in. Even in her discomfort due to the disease, she was constantly laughing at everything. Her smile made everyone’s heart melt. Her energy and essence were beautiful. And the best part of all: she is STILL all of that and more! She is now happier and healthier than ever, and we are blessed that she is now watching over all of us. We are fortunate to have the extraordinary medium, Dr. Sarah Larsen, in our
to not take each other for granted. Any of us can go at anytime. Think of all the petty arguments we get into with our loved ones. At whom are you currently mad and not on speaking terms? What if you knew it was that person’s last day on this earth? What if this was your last day on earth? We often ignore this fact, thinking it won’t happen to us but guess what? news+ WE MAY HAVE A NEW TERM IN DRUG ENFORCEMENT: SMELLY MONEY. Jurors convicted William David Bush of Sebastopol, Calif. on Friday of possessing money from marijuana sales. Police asserted that the $47,000 they found in his car smelled so strongly of the drug that the money could only have come from a recent drug transaction. However, no actual marijuana was found. According to CBS, police stopped Bush for speeding and found that his driver's license had been suspended. Officers then allegedly searched the vehicle and found the money in the car. Bush represented himself in the trial, claiming the money had come from his ATM business and from his mother. He faces up to four years in jail and will be sentenced on October 24. While jurors could not firsthand evaluate the reportedly overwhelming scent, other evidence exhibited included fine particles of pot on the floor, a handwritten note allegedly describing multiple marijuana strains and receipts from purchases of outdoor growing operation items, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported, noting that it was the smell that really swayed the jury.

Tras sufrir un ataque al corazón a los 63 años, el entonces presidente François Mitterrand dijo: “Él era nuestro Baudelaire, nuestro Apollinaire. Elevó la canción al nivel de arte”. Su tumba está en la zona judía del Cementerio de Montparnasse, en París. La tumba de Baudelaire, por cierto, se encuentra muy cerca, así como la de la actriz Jean Seberg. Su tumba muestra el cariño y veneración que el pueblo francés le profesa.
