MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

Age of the

Unprecedented

7

DCA INSIDER / JULY 2022

Despite the times we are in and the challenges we face, I have tremendous confidence in this company and its very talented team members to successfully face any of the unanticipated, unprecedented events in front of us.

I MUST ADMIT that I have made several changes to the theme of this message over the last few weeks. Initially, I wanted to discuss the changing role of technology and the, hopeful end of the COVID epidemic. Then my theme was a focus on the significant issues that we as an organization were dealing with because of inflation, labor scarcity, wage increases, and other very tough issues. The last version of this was a focus on the coming economic crisis—the looming recession. In this, my final version and message to you, I have given each of these things a great deal of thought and it is now a message on the themes intrinsic in all the potential issues we faced and are facing. What I draw from the times we live in is that we live in the age of the unprecedented. I have often thought about the expression I once read called the “extremely likelihood of unlikely events”. I can recite this as a topic of what to call the last two years. We dealt with COVID, this was the unprecedented pandemic of our lives and the century. The company did an outstanding job of recovery and managing through this unprecedented event. Our success as a company in dealing with COVID was remarkable and unprecedented. We encountered late last year the new COVID variant Omicron, and we experienced an unprecedented level of employee infections, albeit a short but very dramatic event. As we recovered from Omicron, we began to see the very serious impact of a labor shortage. This was a very complex issue fueled by efforts to support the economy and the financial well-being of families and individuals. But like many things in life, our efforts to support everyone had an enormous unintended consequence of limiting folks’ willingness to reenter the job market, this too was another unprecedented effect. Compounding this labor shortage was an unprecedented level of demand for goods, that was

pent up demand through the COVID shut down. People relished the ability to shop, travel, and take off the mask. As we opened the early months of 2022, the world entered a new and unprecedented era; a new Cold War with Russia a result of their aggression and invasion of Ukraine. This was an almost unimaginable event. As I lived through the Cold War in the 60s and 70s, an energy crisis of the 70s, and dissolution of the Soviet Union, it seemed strangely familiar and frightening that our new enemy was our old enemy. This war and its impact have created several unprecedented results—fuel costs at record levels, rumors and predictions of a looming level of economic uncertainty, and the treat of a recession. I suspect whatever generates out of the multiple levels of these unprecedented events will be just that - unprecedented. Despite the times we are in and the challenges we face, I have tremendous confidence in this company and its very talented team members to successfully face any of the unanticipated, unprecedented events in front of us. We have as an organization been through some extraordinary times over the past two years, and we will plan and react using the mission, vision, and values, the Vital Few and the talents of the company to navigate the uncharted in front of us.

DCA INSIDER / JULY 2022

of listening, working together, and regularly assessing how you are doing as a team member. And it is why we are committed to regularly asking for your feedback. This survey was our first true pulse survey and gave us direct, anonymous feedback on what you feel is going great, and some areas where we might be able to improve.

An Exceptional Team, Making a True and Lasting Difference

While the results remain strong in 2022, we didn’t see a significant improvement in overall engagement. We did meet our goals for both response rate, which is itself a leading measure of engagement, and overall engagement. We continue to be encouraged by your willingness to share honest and open feedback with us. As you’ll see in the info-graphic on the right, 70% shared your voices, including 78 offices and 7 Support Center departments who achieved a 100% participation rate. As a team, we achieved an engagement score of 4.13 on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest rating. This is a very strong score and is in line with our results from 2021 (4.14). From a geographic perspective, the results are consistent. The highest engagement scores came from our allies in Florida, while the other divisions were slightly lower, but not far behind.

AT DENTAL CARE ALLIANCE, we are an exceptional team, making a true and lasting difference in the lives of others. We take tremendous pride in the diverse and talented people who make up the practices that we support and that distinguishes DCA as the trusted, industry-leading DSO that we are and have been for the last 31 years. While we recognize that all individuals and practices are different – at DCA we embrace diversity and know what’s makes us stronger. We champion uniqueness, as demonstrated by the more than 120 brands that comprise our alliance. It is an honor and a pleasure to partner with the best providers and dental professionals across the communities that we serve. Earlier this year, we asked you to share your voice in our 2022 Engagement Pulse Survey. At DCA, we strive to be the partner of choice for you. We understand the importance

The survey showed that you truly take pride in what you do and where you work – top rated questions were ‘likelihood to recommend to family and friends who need care’, and ‘pride to tell others I work for this company’. This is a wonderful testament to people and culture at DCA and in our supported practices. Engagement begins with every one of us, and it is clear to see that it means a lot to you. Top opportunities from the 2021 survey (‘opportunities for career development’ and ‘having the tools and training to excel’) both achieved slight improvements in satisfaction in this pulse survey. Clearly this improvement is vital to our allies and will we continue to work to help you grow and advance our offerings in these areas. More specifically, we have invested significantly in support and resources for our talent development and acquisition teams. The teams have welcomed several new members to the support teams, who you will meet later in the Insider. We have also launched our first two neighborhoods on smile!, DCA’s virtual community, for dental assistants and PSRs & treatment coordinators. The community continues to grow, and each neighborhood will be focused to provide you the tools, resources, and training that are most important to every individual in the DCA family. We also continue to develop more robust development and networking opportunities to help you grow as an

our practices. Our Affiliations Integration team in partnership with the DCA Career Academy has also recently launched the OM Leadership Summit to welcome and prepare our newest office managers to the team. In July, the Support Center held our first Listening Session to hear direct feedback from the operators across our organization. A listening session is similar to a focus group and is a type of facilitated discussion with a group of people, aimed at collecting information about their experience. Participants in a listening session are asked to talk about what they know,

think, and sometimes answer specific questions about a topic. Our allied practices and the team members within them are our customers. Timely communication, follow-up, and closing the loop on requests for assistance are central to keeping our promise of providing the industry’s best dental office support. We are committed as a team to improving our support and will use this important touchpoint with our Support Center departments to deliver on our promise to do so.

The future is bright here at DCA, and we look forward to the next chapter. We have been fortunate to welcome several new allies to the DCA family

DCA INSIDER / JULY 2022

DENTAL CARE ALLIANCE has made significant investments in cutting edge technologies that will improve clinical outcomes and the patient experience, including artificial intelligence, intra oral scanners, CBCT units, and Guided Biofilm Therapy incorporating use of airflow and piezo technologies through use of machine from EMS. We have piloted artificial intelligence using Overjet in ten locations with great success. Overjet received FDA approval over a year ago for its AI Technology and in late May for its cavity detection and bone loss. The technology annotates radiographs to measure bone loss, areas of possible decay, and discrepancies in density of bone. This technology shows promise in case presentation and patient education CLINICAL UPDATE

in addition to help mentor new doctors. Drs. Khin Phillips and Chad Pancholi have also incorporated the technology to help with chart audits. Based on the outcome of the initial pilot we are rolling it out to 34 more locations. In combination with our commitment to purchase 300 PrimeScan Scanners over the next three years, we are launching our first collaboration with Vitality Dental Lab in the northeast. Vitality Dental Lab has agreed to serve as a manufacturer of fixed restorations exclusively for Dental Care Alliance.

The clinical focus for 2022 has been on technology and providing improved support for our providers and offices.

We will be able decrease cost, increase quality by providing our own materials, and reduce turnaround times. Based on the success of this pilot over the third and fourth quarter, we will look to launch this company wide. We continue to promote our “hands on” implant courses with both Dentsply Sirona and BioHorizons. We had our first Dentsply Sirona course in Q1; and you can look forward to an advanced implant course from BioHorizons in August, as well as an intro course in September. It is an exciting time to be a provider at Dental Care Alliance, and it continues to be my privilege to support all our providers. I sincerely

look forward to the continued growth of our great organization and the next chapter of success.

Due to Primescan’s ability to scan at an incredible data density, it delivers complete 3D structures of everything in its field of view – right from the very first scan.

Guided by patient-centric AI, Overjet’s FDA-cleared (Dental Assist) platform detects Profile photo of Mina Ghorbanifarajz and potential pathologies in radiographs, which is performed automatically, instantly, and accurately to guide providers to arrive at precise and accurate diagnostic decisions.

The AIRFLOW® unit from EMS is a game-changer, allowing you to perform Guided Biofilm Therapy under optimum conditions.

It is with heavy hearts that Dental Care Alliance shares news of the recent passing of Dr. Marvin Becker. After building a successful pediatric dental practice, Dr. Becker joined DCA in 2000, as a Dental Director. He was an integral part of the success of the Maryland and Northern Virginia regions for over 20 years. With 35 years of experience as a pediatric dentist and 20 years of experience teaching at Georgetown University School of Dentistry and the Children’s Hospital Residency Program, Dr. Becker demonstrated a true passion for dentistry, and wanted to share that knowledge and passion with future dental assistants. He launched the very first Dental Assistant Training Schools (DATS) location in 2002. Subsequently, DATS has grown to eight schools across Maryland and Virginia; and now also provides dental assisting training and faculty for Harford Community College, and College of Southern Maryland. “Dr. Becker was a competent, capable, and compassionate leader who everyone enjoyed working with,” shared Mitch Olan, Executive Advisor and DCA Board Member. “He gave 120% of himself and was the consummate team player. Above all Marv was a committed family man with an adoring wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.” He was the beloved husband of Rachel Becker, devoted father of Ira (Emily) Becker and Scott (Sharon) Becker, loving grandfather of Jonathan, Madelyn, Sander and Sorrel, and dear brother of Rozzie (the late Mark) Brilliant. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Har Shalom or to Montgomery Hospice-Casey House. Please join Dental Care Alliance in honoring the career of Dr. Becker and his many contributions to all those who were fortunate to meet, work with, and learn from him. He leaves legacy that will live on and give back for decades to come.

ANALYTICS WORKING FOR YOU

Extending the Reach of Analytics with Personalized Doctor Reports One of the objectives of the Analytics team is to increase the transparency of information, such that all stakeholders are reviewing similar information when making decisions.

The main delivery mechanism for this information is the Analytic Dashboards, facilitated through Tableau’s dashboard software. However, due to licensing limitations, only Dental Directors, Divisional Vice Presidents, Regional Managers, and Office Managers have access to the dashboards.

Objectives of Personalized Doctor Reports We have recently introduced a process to deliver personalized analytics directly to doctors via email, under the direction of the Dental Directors. Reports are distributed to doctors weekly on Sundays in their DCA email inbox.

Marketing Department Changes to Better Serve Our Customers… You! WE STRIVE TO CONTINUOUSLY ENHANCE AND EXPAND our in-house expertise and service levels to be more responsive and tailored in our marketing strategies. We’ve made some recent changes to align with organizational needs and business growth, and we have plans to hire additional Marketing Strategists to support our allied doctors and practices with the capacity to see more patients. I am excited to announce four recent, welldeserved promotions within the Marketing Department: Jamie Esparza was recently promoted to Brand Director; Katie Carlisle was recently promoted to Marketing Integrations Manager, Molly Benz was promoted to DCA Brand Director and Sarah Rios was promoted to Marketing Strategist. All have shown tremendous growth and dedication to improving our marketing support at all levels. I am excited about the development of the marketing team, and I look forward to continuing to build the team with additional experienced marketing strategists in the near future. With the recent department changes, we understand there may be some questions about who to contact for support. DCAMarketing@ DentalCareAlliance.com reaches the entire marketing team so we can respond to needs or questions quickly!

Shawn Wherry Vice President, Marketing Ally Since 2006

Jamie Esparza joined the marketing team at the beginning of the year after having worked successfully with the Colorado Springs Oral Surgery group and in medical marketing previously. She originally joined the team as the Specialty Brand Manager, but has recently been promoted to Brand Director, overseeing all Marketing Strategists and office planning. She understands fully the uniqueness and diverse practice needs across DCA. With her leadership, we will continue to focus on ways we can improve our practice support to deliver increased patient flow for high-need offices, and across the network of allied practices.

Katie Carisle Marketing Integrations Manager Ally since 2022 Katie Carlisle joined DCA with extensive marketing agency experience, and her background and strong work ethic has had an immediate, positive impact on our the team. In her new role as Marketing Integrations Manager she will be the dedicated marketing support for all new affiliations – guiding them through the transition process and collaborating closely with our newest partners and allies to identify marketing growth opportunities to achieve our shared business objectives.

Molly Benz DCA Brand Director Ally since 2020 Molly Benz has been with DCA for about 2 years and comes to us with decades of impressive marketing experience. She is passionate about brand building and is now working exclusively to build DCA brand awareness in support of new affiliations and talent acquisition. She is focused on positioning DCA as the leading DSO and sharing our success stories and unique culture with the industry and our target audiences.

Sarah Rios Marketing Strategist Ally since 2022 Sarah Rios has been an impactful addition to the team this year, having worked in marketing previously for a pediatric and orthodontic group in Southeast Florida. Her recent promotion to Marketing Strategist is well deserved and will allow her to further support practices by taking a more active role in marketing planning, strategy recommendations and campaign execution. Sarah, and the other soon-to-be hired Marketing Strategists, will oversee marketing campaigns for assigned offices aligned with DCA’s Brand Category strategy. Sarah will continue to work closely with our “Reliable” offices which includes large brand such as Towncare Dental, advanced Dental Care of Florida, Gentle Dental and others.

Please join me in congratulating Jamie, Sarah, Katie and Molly! All exemplify our DCA values and work daily to deliver on our DCA Mission and Vision. I am proud to have each of them on our team.

Welcome Newest Allies!

“ Florida

After speaking with several DSOs, I found that DCA was the perfect fit for our practice. I am confident that our partnership with DCA will allow our office to retain its familyoriented feel, while providing us with resources and support to help us thrive. This partnership has given me the freedom to focus on what I love most: providing excellent care for my patients.

Choosing to affiliate with DCA was a decision not taken lightly. Protecting the lifetime of business growth, culture, and our dedicated team members was a priority in the decision-making process. Right from the beginning DCA’s team of professionals stepped in to make the transition as smooth as possible, answering any of the questions the team had and facilitating their integration into the new partnership. At the end of the day, it is business as usual and DCA mostly provides a backboard for future growth by partnering with the team to explore untapped potential. I look forward to our continued drive towards greater personal and practice successes.

Affiliation Referral Bonus

DO YOU KNOW a dentist who would benefit from affiliating with Dental Care Alliance? Maybe the dentist is looking for support to further grow his or her practice? If so, we’d love to speak with them! As a thank you for making the connection, we’ll reward you with a monetary referral bonus once the transaction closes. This bonus opportunity is available to ALL team members – you do not need to be a doctor to make the referral. We know that many of our team members have relationships with other dentists in their markets, and we would love to speak with other dentists to learn more about their needs and explain DCA’s flexible affiliation benefits.

The referral bonus is up to 1% of the sale price. On a $1,000,000 transaction, that is a $10,000 bonus! Please contact the Business Development team with any referrals. partnerships@dentalcarealliance.com

It’s very hard to grow when you are entangled in the operations of a practice. DCA has been a tremendous help. I’m much happier than I was before we affiliated because I have the time to focus on my patients. Carmine Russo, DMD, MS Ally Since 2019

I found DCA’s philosophy to be most fitting to me. They understand dentistry...great HR, great marketing, great support and you feel like you have access to everyone from A-Z...lt is large enough to support, but not so large that you cannot have personal access to information and support...I am enjoying practicing more! Booster Doses Although COVID-19 vaccines are still very effective in preventing severe disease, recent data suggest their effectiveness at preventing infection or severe illness fades over time, especially in people ages 65 years and older. Like many vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines need more than one dose to protect against the virus. These extra doses are known as booster doses because they boost your immune system after your initial protection naturally wears off over time. Several studies have shown that getting a booster dose improves your protection against COVID-19 and is very effective at preventing severe disease. Everyone 5 years and older should get one booster after completing their COMPLIANCE & LEGAL UPDATE

COVID-19 vaccine primary series. Some people can get two boosters:

COVID-19: Boosters and Staying Up To Date with Your COVID-19 Vaccines

Adults ages 50 years and older

People ages 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised

People who got 2 doses (1 primary does and 1 booster) of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine

Being up to date on your COVID-19 vaccines ensures you have the best protection possible against severe illness, hospitalization, and death. You are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after you get all recommended doses in your primary series of COVID-19 vaccines. To be up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines, you will need to be fully vaccinated and get all boosters doses recommended for you when eligible. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) recommends that everyone ages 5 years and older get their primary series of COVID-19 vaccine. The primary series includes two doses of Moderna or Pfizer or one dose of Johnson & Johnson. The CDC further recommends that everyone ages 5 years and older also receive a booster dose to stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines and boost protection against COVID-19. Some people can receive two boosters.

When Are You Considered Up-to-Date? You are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines when you have received all doses in the primary series and one booster when eligible. The recommendations will be different depending on which vaccine you received, your age, your health status, and when you first got vaccinated.

Influenza (the flu) can be a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Anyone can get very sick from flu, including people who are otherwise healthy. You can get flu from patients and coworkers who are sick with flu. If you get the flu, you can spread it to others even if you do not feel sick. By getting vaccinated, you help protect yourself, your family, and your patients. Why is it important to get a flu vaccine every year? Flu viruses are constantly changing, so flu vaccines may be updated from one season to the next to protect against the viruses that research suggests will be common during the upcoming flu season. Additionally, your protection from a flu vaccine declines over time. As such, yearly vaccination is needed for the best protection.
