Some women can see their proposal coming a mile away, and some women don't. Jenna fell into the latter category, and even though Tom had set her friends and family on a mission to discover her dream engagement ring, she had no clue. One evening, she rushed home from work and, like a whirlwind, began getting ready for their night out with friends while Tom patiently sipped wine in the kitchen. Jenna came peeling down the stairs and made a grab for her shoes, but she noticed that Tom wasn't going anywhere. Even when he pulled a little red box from his pocket, she thought she might be getting earrings. It wasn't until he got down on one knee and opened the box, with that exact same three diamond, yellow gold pavĂŠ ring she had been drooling over with her mother earlier that year, that things finally clicked.Â

The It’s Love team spent the day at the spa getting mani/pedis, and we came to this conclusion: shellac manicures are an absolute must for your wedding day! Spa Director Costanza Paletta has this to say: "Gel nails used to be the big must-have for bridal nails, but now it’s shellac. It’s super tough with a mirror shine, and it can go chip-free for over two weeks.” Ours has lasted three weeks and counting!
SHELLAC TIPS AND TRICKS Keep Them Moisturized To prevent lifting and peeling, use an oil on your cuticles every day after your manicure. Costanza recommends CND’s Solar Oil, which was formulated specifically for shellac.
Go Square Square nails are less susceptible to breakage, and have replaced long talons as today’s nail shape of choice. Not a fan of the look? Try a squoval, which is the mid-point between a square and an oval.
Manis Only While you’ll hear of some people doing it, you don’t actually need to get a shellac pedicure when normal polish will do just fine on our lesser exposed toes.
Book In Costanza recommends visiting the salon a day or two before your wedding day to maximize your manicure long into your honeymoon. Make sure you book an appointment, though, as high season often books out. 28 |

Sara was shocked when Sunil asked her to trespass into the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden after hours, but little did she know he had made a reservation ahead of time. However, when the full moon came out and he bent down onto one knee everything suddenly made sense. While Sara had her hopes set on an outdoor barn wedding, practicality had the couple hosting within the city. In the end, they chose the Qualico Family Centre at Assiniboine Park which provided an indoor venue within a natural feel. Choosing a smaller venue forced the couple to create a more intimate guest list which resulted in a day full of love with close family and friends.

Having been together
for over a decade, Hailey was sure there was no way Justin could pull off a surprise proposal. Justin took it as a challenge and searched for the most unsignificant moment of their lives that he could find. After his trip from Vancouver, he brought her back a gift, which was a tradition for them. It was a tacky Vancouver change purse with a cartoon of the city on it. Sitting on their living room couch, Hailey turned to ask him why he would waste his money on something so ugly, and found him bent on one knee with a beautiful ring in his hands. Hailey was completely surprised. It was a mission well accomplished, and the couple started planning their clean and classic wedding at the Fort Garry Hotel.

hen Jessica and Derek’s eyes first locked at bible study, there was little in the way of Derek asking her to spend the rest of her life with him. Like a gentleman, though, he waited one year (to the day!) that they first met to pop the question. As if it was planned, it was the day after the first snow fall, and he took Jessica to his hometown of Virden. The couple bundled up, took a walk, built a snowman, threw snowballs at each other, and, just after tackling her into the snow, Derek asked Jessica to be his wife.

when Sunayna finished work,
she found a limo waiting outside her office building. The driver passed her a card, which referred to the characters of To Kill a Mockingbird. Recalling her first date with her boyfriend, Gaurav (who was, she thought, in Toronto at the time), the driver took her to MTC Theatre. There, Gaurav’s brother was waiting with the next clue, which led them to Southwood Golf Course. Her best friend handed her another clue, which took them to Burger King, another first date location. Inside was her brother’s best friend, dressed in uniform, who handed her a strawberry milkshake and a cell phone with her brother from Toronto on the other end. He asked her to go to the place where Gaurav and her had their first kiss, and there she found him, down on one knee.

hen Dave took Melanie on a trip to Mexico, she expected nothing more than to escape another cold Winnipeg winter.
Dave had bigger plans, though. One evening, he packed a bottle of wine and a couple wine glasses and took Melanie to watch the sunset on the beach. Just when she thought the scene couldn’t get any more romantic, he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.

M E L A N I E A N D D A V E , who are an
active and outdoorsy couple (they even built their own cottage together in Lac du Bonnet), were inspired by the great outdoors while planning their wedding. Rather than choosing a colour palette, the couple worked off of natural textures they both loved, like tree bark, lace, and burlap. They even saved some pieces of oak and poplar from their cottage lot to create decorations, like table markers and candle holders, that were so pretty guests asked to take them home.

Don’t Go Too Trendy We love trends because of the ideas and inspiration they bring to the table, but we always encourage our brides to pick their theme and floral design with a bit of class in mind. We use the principle: "In five years, when you look back at your wedding, will you still love it or even like it? Or will you be wondering, ‘What was I thinking?’” Here are our best suggestions: TIP 1
Don't duplicate what you've seen on
Pinterest. Take bits and pieces of things you like, and incorporate only the things you love.

Make sure that it's still you. Your wedding of
course will be fancier then your day-to-day, but it should be a reflection of who you both are. Make sure you take the time to infuse that into your wedding.

If in doubt, talk to your wedding planner!
They'll never lie to you if they think something is tacky, not a good match for you, or over the top trendy or kitschy. Planners eat, breathe and drink style, colour, and design. They'll be able to guide you through the world of wedding trends and colour, and have fun with you through the process!

SKIN The concealer plays a key role here. Never knowing what type of weather to expect in Manitoba, it is always a bit more comfortable to not feel like you're wearing a mask. Blotting papers are an amazing product to have with you on your special day for touch ups. Here I used CARGO OneBase #01, which is a concealer and foundation in one.
CHEEKS Bronzer is a great way to blend the face and neck or even uninvited tan lines. Here I used a waterproof bronzer to do a soft contour, and then applied a beautiful rosé coloured blush on the apples of her cheeks to really give it that punch of colour. She is wearing CARGO Water Resistant Bronzer and CARGO Blush in Mendocino.
EYES This look had a heavy focus on brows and eyelashes, keeping the eyelid soft with a champagne-coloured shadow. She’s wearing Ardell Demi Wispies, which are very popular with brides and always look amazing in photos. Eyebrows also play an important role, specifically in framing the face. Her eyebrows are filled in with FACE Stockholm brow filler in Suede.
LIPS The flowers on this shoot were mind blowing! The colours were absolutely gorgeous, so a vibrant pink lipstick was a must. Fullcoloured lipsticks can be a bit more maintenance the day of, but can really add that extra kick to the overall look. She is wearing FACE Stockholm Lipstick in Summer.

Snack Smart Research shows that eating at regular intervals, approximately every 3 to 4 hours, can help prevent overeating later in the day. Furthermore, snacks are a great way to incorporate veggies and fruits into your diet to ensure that you’re getting all the nutrients you need. A great snack is one that includes protein, fibre and a fruit or vegetable, if possible. Some examples include carrots and hummus, an apple with cheddar cheese, cottage cheese and berries, peanut butter and celery sticks, or homemade trail mix.
Record your Refreshments One of the best ways to make sure you’re staying on track is to keep a food journal. Be sure to record the time of day, what you ate, how much, and your general mood before and after eating. If a notebook and pen is too oldfashioned for you, try eaTracker.ca or one of the many smart phone apps that are available. Once you’ve recorded your intake for a few weeks, look back and reflect. This can help you identify certain habits or patterns that may be preventing you from reaching your goals. A food journal can also make you more conscious of emotional or stress eating. If you’re aware of the problem, you’re more likely to fix it.
Don’t be Fooled by Fads There are so many different diet plans and programs out there, each selling their own version of weight loss success. But one thing they all have in common is their tendency to promote restriction, deprivation, rules, and an unrealistic approach to long-term weight maintenance. The problem is that low-calorie diets can slow down your metabolism and result in loss of lean muscle, making it harder to lose weight in the long term. The feelings of deprivation and restriction that accompany these diets usually result in overeating and, ultimately, weight gain. Instead of giving in to the promise of quick weight loss, do what decades of research has shown to be effective for long-term weight maintenance: eat your veggies, don’t skip meals, choose whole foods over processed ones, watch your portions, and move your body every day. Catherine Marshall is a Registered Dietitian in Winnipeg and is currently working on a Master’s of Science in Human Nutritional Sciences at the University of Manitoba. Her research interests include body image, eating disorders, aging, women’s health, and the psychosocial factors that influence food choice.

Yes, it’s true – on your wedding day, all eyes may be on you, but no one is going to notice a tiny bulge or a bit of arm jiggle. What will be obvious to your friends and family – the people who love you most – is the huge smile on your face and the joy in your heart.
