It was the first day of nursing school and Gilbert was excited to start working towards his future career. What he didn’t know was that day would impact him in ways he couldn’t imagine – he had no idea that on that day, he would meet the love of his life. During a tour of the building, Gilbert was distracted by the most beautiful girl he ever laid eyes on, and that happened to be Michelle. Amazed by her beauty, Gilbert spent the rest of the day giving lengthy stares to Michelle. From then on, he spent his free time striking up conversations with Michelle and soon built up the confidence to advance their conversations into studying dates. On the last weekend before their trip to Asia, Gilbert suggested a getaway to help them relax and they embarked on a trip to Harrison Hot Springs. After hours of touring the lake, Gilbert found the perfect location on a long narrow dock that stretched over the water. As they crossed it, they looked into the sky and noticed paragliders. Amazed by the sight, Michelle just stood and watched them for several minutes. When she finally looked away, there Gilbert was on one knee with ring in hand.

Gillian and Ryan had an athletic meeting as they played on the same intramural softball team at the University of Victoria in the winter of 2012. On August 12 of the next year, on a beach in Tofino during a camping trip, Ryan popped the question and Gillian said yes!

The couple said “I do� at St. Francis in the Wood, an intimate little church set in Caulfield Cove in West Vancouver. The venue held 150 people, creating a wonderful ambiance for the couple as the church was filled to the brim with family and friends that loved and cherish them both. The rustic wedding included a colour palette of yellow and grey along with touches of wood, mason jars, burlap, and lace. The bride wore an originally strapless dress by Pronovias which was altered to include beautiful lace straps. The bouquet had a mix of yellow and white flowers with touches of rustic greenery wrapped in burlap covering the stems and flowing into the flowers.

Living on opposite sides of the country, Allie and Ally met through an online forum for their mutual favourite band, The Tea Party. They became fast friends, and finally met in person at a Tea Party Concert one year later. Settling down together in Ontario in 2004, they travelled around the country and have been inseparable ever since. When an antique engagement ring surfaced on Etsy, Ally knew it was time to propose. Based on their common name of “Allison,� and their mutual love for The Tea Party, an Alice in Wonderland theme was chosen. Their goal was to give their guests a fun wedding, including activities like croquet that were based out of the book itself.

“The colours from the early watercolour versions of Tenniel’s illustrations for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland provided a launching point,” shares Allie. The most difficult part? “The guest list was stressful. We both have large families but they live far away, so they all needed to be invited but we knew many would not come. That said, we needed to plan so that if everyone did come we could afford the wedding and have enough of everything.”

the wedding, as we gathered it all up from various garage sales and antique / thrift stores. Then we

Floral crowns have risen to become one of the trendiest fashion accessories of the past year which inspired us to ask Mayhew Sherwood Florist to design floral crowns and bouquets for a fabulous shoot around downtown Vancouver. Photographer Ken Tan was given the task of photographing in a wide variety of urban Vancouver wedding settings, and he rose to the challenge by finding everything from restaurants to water docks, streets, and stairways for our very stylish couple.

Jay and I met on a group ski trip to Big White in January 2006. We hit it off right away on the trip and officially started dating in April of that year. I’m not really the romantic type, but I knew right away he was ‘the one’ because being together seemed so natural. We dated for 5 years and on my birthday, June 3rd 2011, he took me out for dinner at the Observatory in North Vancouver. He had planned to propose outside on the patio of the restaurant, but there was a high school graduation party being held the same day, so the patio was full of teenagers taking pictures. Needless to say, he had to come up with a plan B. He drove down to Cleveland Dam saying he wanted to test out his newly purchased camera and tripod. He had to rush against time because the sun was setting quickly and I was getting cold waiting for him to frame the shot. Then he set the timer, and I thought he was going to come up and put his arm around me, but he got down on his knees and proposed right then and there and captured the moment, my surprised facial expression and all. Jay and I enjoyed having Kenny photograph our engagement and wedding shoot so much that we’ve asked him to take our pregnancy shoot as well!

C
elebrating their year and a half of pure romance, Brian first proposed to Millie in Disneyland Paris during their month-long European vacation in 2012. The proposal came just before the Disneyland fireworks show, in front of the magical Princess Castle. Even though she said yes, Brian proposed again with a second ring in Whistler, and Millie knew that the couple would have a large and traditional Chinese wedding that she could celebrate with her friends and family. Due to their mutual love of fashion, the couple opted for a Tiffany-themed wedding with a white, blush pink, and tiffany blue colour palette.

The wedding programs included elements from their Paris engagement by folding into the Eiffel Tower, with Minnie and Mickey Mouse kissing beneath it. Following their wedding ceremony, the couple surprised their wedding party in a room at the Pacific Rim Hotel. “ Brian and I had our friends set up the room with gifts from Tiffany and Co. for our wedding party,� recounts Millie. The bed was filled with Tiffany bags, and they held a champagne toast with Tiffany champagne glasses.

WHITE SAND, CLEAR SKIES, AND PURE BLUE SEAWATER – if you are desiring a destination wedding, then one of the luxurious beaches in Mexico could be your perfect escape. Located on the edge of the Caribbean Sea, Isla Mujeres Palace in Cancun was the perfect location to host this beach themed styled shoot. With a backdrop that naturally decorates itself, the décor was kept unobtrusively white and simply elegant. Lush floral arrangements from House of Silk not only travelled well during the long journey to Mexico but also provided a touch of warmth. In this relaxing ambiance, you only have to worry about enjoying your day in this beautiful beachy landscape.

Just like the best romances, Shalu and Raj were always only one connection away… it just took a little matchmaking and a sense of adventure to realize it. The couple met through mutual co-workers, who also happened to be married. After Shalu and Raj shared pictures via Shalu’s co-worker, they began texting and talking on the phone, getting to know one another before setting up their first date in downtown Vancouver, where they shared appetizers and wine and learned just how much they had in common. One thing they had in common was a love of travel. After ten months of dating, the adventurous couple took their first trip together to Turkey and New York, which was a test to see if they could handle stressful situations together. They passed the test, and soon Raj was planning the perfect proposal for Shalu. After enlisting Shalu’s friend to take her out for an evening coffee, Raj adorned the couple’s condo with scattered candles, 2 dozen roses, and soft background music. When Shalu returned, she realized what was going on just as Raj got down on one knee and popped the question with a haloed, Tacorri-style solitaire ring. A perfect start to a lifelong adventure.
