STORYLINES  The Mizzou soccer team travels to West Lafayette, Ind., this weekend for the Boilermaker Challenge Cup. The Tigers take on Indiana on Friday, Aug. 28 at 3 p.m. CT and host Purdue on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. CT.  The Tigers went 1-0-1 to open the 2015 campaign, with a 2-0 shutout over TCU on Aug. 21 and a 1-1 doubleovertime draw with SMU on Aug. 23.  Freshman keeper Kelsey Dossey became the first Mizzou goalie to start the season opener since Laura Buehrig in 2004. Dossey did not disappoint with totals of 0.45 goals against average and a .800 save percentage in 200 minutes of action in the two contests.  Three different Tigers found the back of the next last weekend: senior defender Candace Johnson, senior midfielder Reagan Russell and sophomore forward Savannah Trujillo, who tallied the game-winner against TCU. Johnson’s tally was off a penalty kick, while Russell and Trujillo both scored in the run of play.  2015 marks the 20th season of Mizzou soccer, as the program started in 1996 under the direction of current Head Coach Bryan Blitz. Blitz and the Tigers own identical 209-165-25 records in 19 seasons.  Eight starters are back for Mizzou in 2015 from the 2014 squad that went 12-7-3 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  Russell is Mizzou’s top returning scorer after she notched career bests of seven goals and four assists for

18 points as a junior in 2014. Russell was also named to the All-SEC second team a year ago.  Johnson also earned a spot on the All-SEC second a year ago after anchoring a Tiger defense that posted six shutouts.  Mizzou’s 2014 freshman class look to build on strong inaugural seasons as sophomores in 2015. A year ago, five of the Tiger newcomers combined to post 35 points on 11 goals and 13 assists.  Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Clark was one of those standout freshman. She started 19 of 22 games and posted eight points on two goals and four assists en route to SEC All-Freshman Team accolades.  The 2015 squad features seven newcomers to the Mizzou soccer family: F Bethany Coons (Union, Mo.), GK Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.), D Payton Goulding (Woodbury, Minn.), D/M Rachel Hise (Lucas, Texas), M Madison “Pooh” Lewis (Zionsville, Ind.), D/M Natalie McDonough (Dallas, Texas) and M/F Amanda Shaw (Carmel, Ind.)  The 2015 schedule features three nationally televised games, 10 home contests and regular season matchups with five teams that qualified for the 2014 NCAA Tournament.  At least 15 of Mizzou’s 18 regular season contests will air on national television or SEC Network + this season.

HEAD COACH BRYAN BLITZ... • 2009 Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year • 2007 Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year • 1995 Horizon League Coach of the Year Bryan Blitz begins his 20th season at the helm of the Tigers soccer program and enters 2018 with a 208-165-24 record at Missouri since he was hired as the program’s first head coach in 1996. A dedicated coach, there is little time off the field when he is not working to improve his team. Making an immediate impact to the program with his stellar recruiting techniques, Blitz has set a standard by enlisting some of the nation’s top players each season. During the 2014 campaign, Blitz led the Tigers to a 12-7-3 record and a 6-4-1 mark in SEC action, including a 7-1-1 record in home contests. Blitz led Mizzou to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history and advanced to the second round after posting a 3-1 win over Kansas in the opening round. In 2013, Mizzou knocked off three top-25 teams, which were the most wins over ranked opponents were the most for the Tigers since 2008. Missouri recorded its first ranked win with a 1-0 defeat over No. 7 Florida, then handed No. 7 South Carolina only its second loss of the season on Oct. 18 and posted a dramatic 2-1 double-overtime win at No. 25 Kentucky on Oct. 25. After a 7-10-2 season in 2010, Blitz led the Tigers to a 12-8-1 record in 2011 despite 13 players who were new to the program. Mizzou set a new program record for nonconference winning percentage (.909) during the year and tied the team’s consecutive wins record (seven). In the program’s first season in the Southeastern Conference, Blitz led the Tigers to a 14-7-1 season and their fifth NCAA Tournament berth. The squad’s 14 wins tie for the second-most in a single-season. Mizzou also recorded an 8-5 SEC mark and advanced to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala.In 2009, his Mizzou squad earned its first-ever Big 12 regular season title as the Tigers clinched the title with a 5-0 shutout over Nebraska on Oct. 25 With his players excelling on the field it seemed only natural that Blitz was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the second time. In 2008 the Tigers had one of their most successful seasons in program history. Blitz directed his team to a 16-5-2 mark, the Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship and into the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. Over the course of the year, Mizzou set school records with wins (16), fewest losses (five), shutouts (12), fewest goals allowed (19) and goals against average (0.80), among others.
