HALL OF FAME MEMBERS

Jake Jacobson 1979-1999 The father of Missouri gymnastics, Jake Jacobson was named the first head coach of the Missouri gymnastics program in 1979, and built the program from scratch into a nationally-prominent one during his 20 years at the helm. Jacobson had a career record of 229-198-1 in the regular season, and led his teams to 13 NCAA Regional appearances. He was the 1990 Big Eight Conference Coach of the Year and also won the same award as part of the Big 12 in 1999. He directed Missouri to the 1992 Big Eight championship, and his team claimed the NCAA Central Regional title in 1981 and advanced to the NCAA National Championships. Jacobson guided 30 gymnasts to all-conference honors and five to regional championship titles, and founded three premier meets - Shakespeare’s Festival, the Corvette Cup and the Cat Classic. By the time he retired in 1999, Jacobson helped the gymnastics program to become Missouri’s third-highest grossing athletic program.

HALL OF FAME MEMBERS

Julie Dorn 1988-1991 Julie Dorn became the second Missouri gymnast to be inducted into the University of Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame during ceremonies in September 1996. The most honored gymnast in school history, Dorn was the Big Eight Conference Female Athlete of the Year in 1991. She was a three-time all-conference performer and won league championships in the vault and floor exercise in 1991. She still holds or shares 16 school records and was Mizzou’s first two-time all-American, placing at the NCAA Championships in the vault and floor exercise in 1990. She also competed at the NCAAs in 1989. A native of Minnetonka, Minn., Dorn worked for her alma mater as the Director of Life Skills in Missouri’s Total Person Program. Before coming back to Mizzou, she worked at the Big 12 Conference and the Kansas City Chiefs.

HALL OF FAME MEMBERS

Mary Houghton 1985-1989 Mary Houghton became the first Mizzou gymnast in the history of Missouri Athletics to be honored as a Hall of Fame inductee when she joined the prestigious group in 1994. Known as the “Queen of Missouri Gymnastics” during her career from 1986-89, she was honored as a three-time All-Big Eight performer who was on her way to becoming the first four-time all-conference gymnast in school history when her senior season was cut short by a knee injury. Moving through her career, Houghton’s all-around performance made the Mizzou recordbooks as she held every Missouri event record at the end of her 1987 sophomore season. Although her career was cut short, Houghton added a Big Eight vault championship title to her resume as a junior in 1988. As impressive in the classroom as she was in the arena, Houghton was a three-time academic all-league choice.
