For Immediate Release July 26, 2017 – Kappa Xi Omega Sorority, Incorporated and her members are once again dismayed by the lack of understanding and forethought displayed by Donald Trump in his “official” tweet stating: “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military,". "Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.” The 2016 Rand report, Allowing Transgender Personnel to Serve Openly, directly contradicts the reasoning set forth in the official communication.
The decision reversed a policy initially approved by the Defense Department under former President Barack Obama, which was still under final review, which would allow transgender individuals to openly serve in the military. Reinstating this ban signals a tumultuous time for transgender and gender non-conforming military personnel. There has been no official word We disavow these acts of open discrimination and will continue protect LGBTQA, disabled, and those deemed different from intimidation and maltreatment. Kappa and her members will continue to be a leading force in the community and we call upon our fellow LGBTQA Greeks specifically our transgender –focused organizations to mobilize and work within their respective communities to lessen the impact.
