Year At JMU: First Graduate Of: Eastern Carolina University (Bachelor’s 2009), Tulane University (Master’s 2011) Hometown: Stedman, N.C. At JMU: Is in his first season as assistant athletic trainer at JMU, working primarily with the men’s basketball program… works with the team daily, including during the offseason… handles a variety of responsibilities, including injury treatment and rehabilitation along with injury prevention. Before JMU: Before joining the JMU staff in the fall of 2013 had been a graduate assistant athletic trainer since 2009 at Tulane University, before being promoted to assistant athletic trainer in 2011, where he worked primarily with the men’s basketball and women’s bowling teams… worked with student-athlete injury rehabilitation and offseason treatment… host athletic trainer for the 2010-2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournaments… worked with Tulane University Center for Wellness and Health Promotion and Tulane University Athletics…served as athletic trainer at the Chris Paul basketball camp and the Tulane Youth Impact camp in 2009… served as a training camp intern for the New England Patriots in 2008. At JMU: In his 22nd year as JMU’s head strength and conditioning coach after working as an assistant in the program the three previous years… teaches KIN 425, concepts of strength and conditioning, in JMU’s kinesiology curriculum… in 1999 was the strength and conditioning specialist for the U.S. national field hockey team… in 1999, 2006 and 2007 was one of three finalists for the NSCA Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Professional of the Year award… in 2005 received the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s highest recognition, its Coach Practitioner distinction… in 2006 received the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association’s highest professional honor, the Master Strength and Conditioning Coach title… designed, developed and maintains JMU’s state-of-the-art strength and conditioning Web site… has served as co-chairman of JMU’s employee advisory committee and on JMU’s honor council… assisted by Callye Williams, Lee Rowland and Phillip Brown. Before JMU: Coached for two years at Austin Peay State University and one year at University of the Pacific. Personal: Received his bachelor’s degree in human performance and his master’s in exercise science... has published more than 30 articles in national strength and fitness publications… serves on the Sports Advisory Board for USANA Health Sciences, and the Journal of Pure Power… member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (has been Virginia state director) and the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association... a certified strength and conditioning specialist (National Strength and Conditioning Association), a certified strength and conditioning coach (Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association), a certified health/fitness instructor (American College of Sports Medicine) and a certified sports nutrition consultant (International Sports Medicine Association)... he and his wife, Cynthia, have a son, Hans Christian, and a daughter, Heidi Faith.
