At JMU: In his eighth year as JMU’s offensive coordinator and will work with the team’s tight ends this year after working previously with the quarterbacks for the last seven years… the program’s assistant head coach… Primary Recruiting Area: Pennsylvania, Florida, New England, North Carolina, South Carolina… JMU during the last six seasons, respectively, has averaged 28.1, 35.5, 32.4, 33.3, 38.1 and 22.0 points and 368.7, 404.4, 391.2, 410.0, 401.4 and 337.9 yards of total offense per game… JMU quarterback Justin Rascati ranked eighth nationally in passing efficiency in 2005 and fifth in 2006 when he was second-team All-Atlantic 10… Rodney Landers was second-team All-CAA in 2007 when he set JMU’s season total offense record of 2,951 yards and league Player of the Year and National Player of the Year runner-up in 2008 when he set JMU season marks for total offense (3,304), touchdown passes (21), rushing yards (1,770) and run-pass touchdowns (37)… JMU has thrown only 39 interceptions while having 101 touchdown passes and completing 63.1 percent of its passes during the last six seasons… JMU quarterback Justin Thorpe was the 2009 CAA Offensive Rookie of the Year. Before JMU: Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Virginia Military Institute from 2002-03 after three years as the program’s running backs coach and special teams coordinator... VMI set team season records for points in 2002 and 2003 and in 2003 set a team mark for total offense… VMI in 2000 while he worked with special teams blocked eight punts… offensive coordinator and running backs coach for four years at Morehead State before moving to VMI... his 1997 Morehead State offense led Division I-AA in scoring and was second in total offense... previously coached at California (Pa.), West Georgia and Georgetown (Ky.). Personal: Bachelor’s degree in education and was an all-conference defensive back at Georgetown... received his master’s in education... At JMU: Coaches the linebackers and was named defensive coordinator before the 2009 spring practice period… Primary Recruiting Area: Virginia’s Route 29 corridor… joined the JMU staff with head coach Mickey Matthews… had the 2010 CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year and Third-Team All-CAA pick in Stephon Robertson... in 2009 coached Pat Williams, who was Third-Team AllCAA… in 2007 Justin Barnes was Second-Team All-CAA… in 2006 coached Akeem Jordan and Isaiah Dottin-Carter, First-Team All-Atlantic 10 picks… Jordan was national defensive player of the year by College Sporting News and runner-up for national defender of the year by The Sports Network, state Division I defender of the year by Virginia’s sports information directors and was named to four All-America first teams… in 2005 Jordan was second-team all-league… in 2004 coached Kwynn Walton (first-team All-A-10 and third-team All-America by The Sports Network) and Trey Townsend (second-team All-A-10)… Dennard Melton was second-team All-A-10 in 2003 and third-team in 2002… Derrick Lloyd in 2001 won the Buck Buchanan Award and was named to four AllAmerica first teams… Mike Luckie and Derick Pack were First-Team All-A-10 in 1999… Pack was first-team All-A-10 in 2000 and 2001 and Lloyd second team in 2000 and first team in 2001… in 1999 Pack was the regular-season tackles leader in the A-10, Second-Team All-America by the Associated Press and a finalist for the Buchanan Award… in 2000 he led the A-10 in tackles and was first-team All-America by Football Weekly and third team by The Sports Network… Lloyd led the A-10 in tackles and was the national leader in solo stops in 2001. Before JMU: Coached Elon’s defensive line from 1996-98… coached at Hargrave Military Academy and was Marshall’s outside linebackers coach in 1994 while JMU coach Mickey Matthews was defensive coordinator there… coached the defensive backs and was recruiting coordinator at Bridgewater from 1989-91… U.S. Achievement Academy All-America and academic All-America at Bridgewater. Personal: Bachelor’s degree in education with a concentration in physical education and a master’s in education… his wife, Elizabeth, is a JMU graduate and a special education teacher at Harrisonburg High School… they have two sons, Trey (8) and Thomas James (3).
