coaching staff Steve Secord Head Coach • 17th season as the Dukes’ head coach. • Former team captain and Most Valuable Player for the Dukes. • 149 career wins at the helm of the JMU program. • During his tenure, JMU has produced members of the All-CAA team, achieved team and individual regional rankings and produced a Verizon Academic AllAmerica first team honoree. • Coached Matt King and Mike Smith to Third Team All-CAA doubles, Tommi Nissinen to Third Team All-CAA singles and Smith to Second Team All-CAA singles in 2010. • Directed seniors Andrew Lux and Troy Stone into the main draw finals of the National Indoor Region II Championships in 2002. • As a player, he helped lead the Dukes to CAA titles in 1989 and 1991. • He posted careers records of 6734 in singles and 63-34 in doubles competition. • Claimed the singles championship at the Harrisonburg Daily News-Record Tournament in 1995, 2005 and 2006. • Received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from JMU in 1991.
Zachary Watson Assistant Coach • First season as assistant coach. • Three-time NCAA participant as a player at Radford (2007, 2008, 2009). • Two-time All-Big South doubles team (2008, 2009). • Compiled 72-32 singles record and 73-32 doubles record in four years starting at RU. • As a freshman, one of two players in the Big South to go undefeated in conference play (9-0 in 2007). • Graduated from Radford in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise sport and health education.
