PLAYERS Outtakes with Nikki Newman Q: What was your favorite childhood cartoon to watch growing up? NN: I don’t remember watching cartoons… I watched a lot of Disney movies!!! Q: Which animated character does coach Brooks remind you of? NN: The little kid from “The Boondocks”… Riley Freeman (that’s what Tim Clark said) Q: Who is the worst singer on the team? NN: Toia (Giggetts) is pretty bad… Q: What makes JMU unique from other schools? NN: Everyone is very personable and welcoming. The atmosphere around JMU is great and it just feels like “home.” Q: How would your teammates describe the way you dress? NN: Relaxed! I like to be comfortable when I go out. Q: Who’s the funniest person on the team? NN: Everyone has their funny moments… but Kirby (Burkholder) takes the cake! Q: Which school in the CAA has the toughest environment to play in? NN: JMU… DUH! We have the best fans around. I don’t know why anyone would want to come play here. Q: What’s the biggest life lesson you’ve learned from coach Brooks? NN: The list goes on and on… He has definitely helped me become the person I am today. You can go to him and talk about anything and he will normally have something positive or real to say to you! Q: What would you say to someone who’s considering coming to JMU? NN: You will love it! It is a home away from home and you will definitely enjoy your time here. Q: What are you going to miss most about JMU? NN: Everything… I don’t know why anyone would ever want to leave here. I wish I had four more years. It’s great to be around people who care about you and want the best for you every single day. Q: How would you describe JMU’s coaching staff? NN: The best! They are always there when you need them no matter what it is. A shoulder to cry on, someone to laugh with, having serious talks. Anything you need. They are willing to do what they can to make it happen! Q: Describe how it felt to play in the WNIT and make it to the WNIT championship game last season. NN: I don’t think words can describe the feeling. From the beginning, WNIT was like a completely new season and everyone had the same mindset. It was a lot of fun and I think I could speak for everyone when saying that. To accomplish the things that we did in that run and to see the amount of support we had was awesome!
