Robert Randolph & The Family Band brings its social messages and celebration of African-American music to Jackson August 26.

Summer music preview Festivals, free concerts, orchestras fill the valley with tunes. BY AARON DAVIS Wow! The summer music calendar has officially blossomed here in the Tetons, and it’s denser than ever. If you are lucky enough to enjoy a solid outdoor activity by day, capped off by an inspiring music performance by night, that’s the life. Here’s a bird’s eye view of theater, festivalstyle, and club concerts based on venue. If it’s the festival vibe that tickles your G chord, Grand Targhee Resort is a treasure of a venue. Three festivals are on tap here: Targhee Fest (July 13-15), the inaugural Targhee Country Fest (July 26-27), and the Silver Anniversary of the Bluegrass Festival (August 10-12). With an Americana /Southern rock slant to

Targhee Fest, performers include Lucinda Williams, Drive-By Truckers, Josh Ritter, Trigger Hippy, Joe Pug, Brokedown in Bakersfield, JJ Grey & Mofro, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, and Paul Thorn among others. Country Fest will bring Dierks Bentley, Dwight Yoakam, Stoney LaRue, Rodney Crowell, Elizabeth Cook, Lost Trailers, and David Nail. Bluegrass Fest has a super strong lineup this year as well hosting Leftover Salmon, David Grisman Quintet, Del McCoury Band, The Infamous Stringdusters, Steep Canyon Rangers, Donna the Buffalo, Kanes River, Hot Rize, and Darrell Scott. Also on the Teton Valley side of the range is Teton Valley Foundation’s free Music
