New Nights for Jersey The sun has briefly appeared so fingers crossed summer is on the way and no more so than at Jersey Opera House. We have a great season lined up for you with lots of new and varied shows to cater for all. My show picks are An Evening with the Stars from Strictly Come Dancing in June when dance duo Pascha and Katya take to the stage, and then August is back to back action with the sensational and awe-inspiring Aquaria, followed by Blues Brothers tribute Jake & Elwood, a 4 night mini-residency by Jane McDonald and then the world famous musical New Jersey Nights. There are some true opera classics this summer with Met Opera screenings of Carmen, Turandot and The Barber of Seville, plus screenings of Madama Butterfly and La Traviata. Let’s not forget the National Theatre Live screening of The Audience with Helen Mirren once again assuming her role as Queen Elizabeth II. Shows aside, following the success of our Children’s Drama Classes, we will be offering summer classes. NT LIVE: THIS HOUSE encore screening A new play by James Graham It’s 1974 and the corridors of Westminster ring with the sound of infighting and backbiting as Britain’s political parties battle to change the future of the nation, whatever it takes. In this hung parliament, the ruling party holds on by a thread. Votes are won and lost by one, fist fights erupt in the bars, and ill MPs are hauled in to cast their votes.

It’s a time when a staggering number of politicians die, and age-old traditions and allegiances are thrown aside in the struggle for power. James Graham’s biting, energetic and critically-acclaimed new play strips politics down to the practical realities of those behind the scenes who roll up their sleeves, and on occasion bend the rules, to manoeuvre a diverse and conflicting chorus of MPs within the Mother of all Parliaments. www.nationatheatre.org.uk/ntlive

NT LIVE: THE AUDIENCE encore screening

Helen Mirren reprises her Academy Award-winning role as Queen Elizabeth II in the highlyanticipated West End production of The Audience, broadcast as part of National Theatre Live. For 60 years Elizabeth II has met each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a weekly audience at Buckingham Palace – a meeting like no other in British public life – it is private. Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said. Not even to their spouses. The Audience breaks this contract of silence – and imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen. From Churchill to Cameron, each Prime Minister has used these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional – sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive. Directed by Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot), The Audience reunites writer Peter Morgan and Helen Mirren following their collaboration on the critically-acclaimed movie sensation The Queen. www.nationatheatre.org.uk/ntlive

Marilyn was a mother to three musical sons; Lee, Luke and Adam, and a photographer daughter, Rani; all of whom have decided to honour the life of their beloved mother by organising a gala concert and, in doing so, raise money for various cancer charities including Jersey Hospice Care where Marilyn spent her final days.
