Beauty Trends Alert Holiday 2013 By: Stefanie Savino Tis the season to be fabulous! Holiday season is filled with shopping, cooking, planning and best of all parties and social events! Save the dates on your calendars and try out some of this season’s glamorous holiday hair and makeup trends. GLITTER

There are many ways to use glitter on the eyes to give them a fun pop. The easiest way to do so would be to add glitter as a liner on the top of your lash line or underneath the bottom lash line. This small touch gives your eyes that sparkle without making it look immature or over done. My personal favorite glitter eyeliner is the Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liners. They are long lasting and come in a variety of gorgeous colors. A perfect holiday look using glitter is below done by the super talented makeup artist Lady Danger.

NUDE LIPS

The nude lip is by far a sexy go to night out option when picking out a lip product. Whether you wear a lipstick, lip gloss or both this look looks amazing with a smoky eye or a sexy cat winged lined eye. Here are some of my favorite nude lip products: Motives Cosmetics Lip Crayon in Naked NYX Cosmetics Gala and Thalia lipsticks MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam II lipstick and Kinda Sexy lipstick EM Cosmetics Nude Lace lipstick

HAIR ACCESSORIES

Sequined head bands, embellished hair pins, and even adding ribbon around your ponytail are all fun and easy ways to make your hair look from good to wow at all your holiday soirees. One of my personal favorite sites for hair accessories is www.danabands.com. This site has everything for everyone! From headbands, hats, scarves and head wraps each item is handmade and gorgeous! Adding a braid to either and up door when your hair is down is a chic twist to make it look modern and special especially for holiday parties. If you are wearing your hair down try putting the braid directly down the middle as seen by Kim Kardashian, or to the side. You can try a braided top knot look or incorporated a braid to an up do style. Any way you choose this will give you that extra something and make you look glamorous and sexy this season.

WINTER SKIN CARE TIPS Esthetician, Jennifer McElroy gives us the scoop on skin care for these cold winter months! JF: Is there a skincare regimen we should use now that the weather is colder? McElroy: Winter skin should include exfoliation 2-3x per week. This helps eliminate dry flaky skin. JF: What is recommended for cleansing the skin? Before & after make up? McElroy: Winter cleansing should be done in the evening. In warmer months, we cleanse 2x a day. For the winter, cleanse once unless the skin is extremely oily.

JF: Should we still wear sun screen in the winter? McElroy: Yes, sunscreen is recommended- SPF 15. JF: Do you recommend any specific products? For face? Hands? Body? McElroy: G.M Collin makes an exfoliant powder for every skin type even sensitive types. I like SPF 15 creams with a bronze tint. Face oils are also good for the skin during these cold months. They protects the lipid barrier and protect our skin from harsh weather and balances dry and oily skin types. For example, G.M. Collin lipid complex serum. I also like Ceravie hand and body lotion- you can purchase this from local drug stores.

Simple Way to Give Back During the Holidays with Fashion By Denise Ricciotti

With the holiday season in full swing, shopping for good is all the rage. Supporting important causes can be easy to forget around the hustle and bustle of holiday season. There is an easy way to give back to those in need while giving the perfect gift to that special someone. Star Dog Enterprises provides a simple way to give back during the holiday with their buy one give one business model. When a good friend moved to Moreles, Mexico to run the Tashirat Orphanage, Denise and Michael Riciotti wanted to help. They created Star Dog, a company that would match every shirt purchased with a new shirt to be given to a child at Tashirat. As word got out and Star Dog became more well know, other organizations reached out to Star Dog for help. Realizing there were so many more children in need beyond Tashirat, Star Dog expanded and now provides clothing to children at local organizations such as Women Aware battered women’s shelter, Father English Community Center, Camp Happy Times Cancer Camp, Your Grandmothers Cupboard and Family Promise Homeless Shelter. “We were so overwhelmed by the appreciation of the Tashirat Kids that we wanted to do more” says Denise Ricciotti. To date Star Dog has donated over 200 t-shirts to children in in the U.S. and Mexico. The effects of economic hardship can be felt all over the world. Chances are that every person has

been touched by the growing economic downturn of recent years. With the growing number of unemployed, rising price of fuel and living expenses and increasing natural disasters, many families are doing without the basic necessities. At Star Dog, we know we cannot meet all the needs of suffering children, but the ability to provide them with new clothing can remove just one stress factor. We believe that everyone feels better when they look their best. New clothing can improve a child’s outlook and can contribute to building a positive self-image. “Putting a smile on a child’s face with our fun and cute Star Dog logo gives us great satisfaction.” Today consumers have a generous heart and want to find ways to help, but often think they don’t have the time or money to do so. Purchasing a Star Dog Tee is an easy way to spread cheer with others and takes away that concern- Star Dog does the donating for you! You are not only buying a great looking comfortable Tee, you also get the opportunity to share that you contributed to a fabulous cause that is making a difference in the lives of children. Star Dog T-shirts can be purchased at local street fairs, craft and vendor shows and on their website www.StarDogGives.com. The socially responsible T-shirts are available in Men’s, Women’s and children’s sizes and come in a variety of colors and styles. Each shirt comes with a card stating the name of the organization where the donation has been made, making Star Dog Tee a wonderful gift giving idea.

Creating Fun Holiday Traditions & Memories By: Betsy V.

Growing up my family wasn’t about doing any Christmas traditions. All we really did was just surround ourselves with family, have my dads infamous hot chocolate and open presents at 12:00AM on Christmas. Okay, those are traditions, but nothing spectacular. Now having my boyfriend around, him and his family are all about traditions! And I love them! They make me love every holiday with their traditions. Here are my 10 favorite fun Christmas traditions that you can start doing with your family to make forever-lasting memories...

1. We make our own ornaments every year and exchange them with one another. 2. Bake cookies (as we do) or make a dish every year so it could be your “yearly” whatever. 3. Go visit Santa and write a letter to Santa. 4. Elf on the shelf! This little elf apparently keeps an eye on your kiddies to help keep them on their best behavior because he’ll report back to Santa. Also every morning he’s in a new spot and the kids need to find him. Very cute! 5. Decorate the Christmas tree together and have the kids put the topper on the tree. 6. Make a gingerbread house. 7. Open one gift on Christmas Eve. 8. Visit the tree farm and pick out your perfect tree for your family. Love this! 9. Camp out in front of your Christmas tree one night. Keep the tree lights on, read holiday stories, and snack on holiday treats. 10. Write a family holiday letter to inform family and friends on just the major highlights that occurred during the year. Not everyone has social mediaAnd those are my top 10 favorite holiday traditions! I hope you’ll participate in a few with me :) 46

Make a Holiday Wreath for Under $20! What you will need: 1 Roll Burlap Ribbon ($3.99 Hobby Lobby) 1 Plain Wreath ($7.99 Hobby Lobby) A few pinecones ($3 Walmart) A few Sparkly Ornaments ($1 ea. at Walmart) A hot glue gun ($4 at Hobby Lobby)

Simply wrap the burlap ribbon around the wreath giving it space to still see the bare wreath. Hot glue gun the ribbon to the wreath on the back side. Next, cut any ornament strings or clips and hot glue them onto your wreath. Make a bow in the middle using a separate piece of burlap ribbon and hot glue an ornament in the middle to add some holiday cheer!

Deck the Halls

You spend on holiday cards, presents, the pretty wrapping paper, stocking stuffers, the list goes on and on but let’s be honest what makes Christmas one of the prettiest holidays of the year and what do we ultimately end of spending a lot of money on and forget to add it to the holiday budget... the decorations. We all love the pretty lights, beautiful ornaments, stunning wreaths, and if you are like me you like a pretty windowsill or a fancy centerpiece for your guests to aw at but who really wants to spend a fortune on some overpriced decorations that are stored away eleven months out of the year. Here is an affordable, easy, and classy ‘Do It Yourself’ that you’re sure to love.

What’s best about this DIY? Once Christmas is over you can ditch the ornaments and fill the vases with Hershey kisses for Valentine’s day, or pretty eggs for Easter. The possibilities are endless. Happy Crafting! 1) Purchase one or two empty vases from your local craft store. I got lucky at Hobby Lobby where I hit a 50% off deal. You can also find them in Walmart, A.C. Moore, Michael’s, you get the idea. 2) Mix and match ornaments in different colors, shapes, and sizes. You might want to also get some matching ribbon, maybe some tinsel too. You can even keep it as simple as just getting a nice candle to put in one. 3) Now take all those goodies (ornaments, ribbon, tinsel, etc.) and put it all in those vases. Play around with different combos and looks until you’re satisfied with what you’ve come up with. 4) Step back and admire your masterpiece. Hey, you just might give Martha Stewart a run for her money. Cassandra Alvelo is an entrepreneur residing in Perth Amboy, NJ with her young daughter. She is the founder and National Director of the Miss Celebrity Spotlight Pageant which was founded in 2010 and then went on to establish her event production company MCS Productions, LLC in 2011. She has organized events at the local, state, and national level. Besides event planning her interests include music, fashion, DIY projects, and entertainment.

Are you all grown up and ready to host your own holiday party for your family or friends? Not to worry, though you didn’t take notes from mom all those years, I’m here to help! Planning a holiday party is not as hard as you may think. Just remember that the key to any successful event is to be organized. Follow these simple tips and I can assure you will have a great party.

1. Come up with a theme. It doesn’t have to be over the top. Maybe a color theme like matching tableware and decor or a color for your guests to wear. For example, let’s say your tree is decorated in a candy land theme, maybe your party can be too. If you have no theme, that’s fine too. 2. Invite your guests. Always send out an invite at least one month prior so that your guests have time to r.s.v.p., get a sitter, block your date; etc. Custom make, purchase or make invites via email. I like PostMark for email invites or TinyPrints for hard copy invites. 3. Create a menu. Wether you are hosting something as simple as desserts and cocktails or a full meal, a menu is always a great idea. This will help keep you on track. And to add detail to your party, print a menu and frame it or use a chalkboard.

49

4. Make a holiday playlist. No one likes to attend a quiet party. Make sure you have some music to get your guests in the mood. And for fun, maybe some holiday karaoke on the wii? Like this Playlist 5. Make a photo booth! Grab an area of your homea wall maybe, tape some fun wrapping paper to the wall, set a few hats and funny shaped glasses in a basket and have some photo booth fun! Create a hashtag (ex. #Janesholidaybash) for guests to share pictures using social media. 6. Give your guests take out boxes for left overs. Who likes to cook during the holidays? Your guests will love the fun boxes and appreciate the left overs. 7. Don’t forget to say thank you! Sure, you did all the work- but they came out to join you so remember to thank them. You can also send a thank you email card later on too just to remind your guests how much their attendance meant to you. I hope these tips are helpful for you party planning needs. Happy Planning!

5 Tips for Holiday Gift Giving By Mariela Rodriguez

The holidays are here! Not sure what to gift to your love ones this year? Here are a few tips to help. 1. Style. If you know the person well, that means you possibly know his/her style. Think about their style. Make a purchase from their favorite store but don’t forget the gift receipt in case the clothing does not fit properly or they do not like it. Another option you have when it emanates from purchasing clothing is simply just giving a gift card. 2. Ask. Have a conversation with the recipient. “What do you need for your home?” or “What types of clothes do you need?” However, it is a gift and you don’t want to spoil the surprise element of it. So maybe try asking someone who is close to them to figure out what he/she needs. 3. Hobbies & Interests. Think about their hobbies. What does he/she like to do in their free time? Hobbies and Interests include: Art, Sports, Reading, Music, Literature, Computers, and Travel, Cooking, Wine. For example, if the person finds pleasure in reading then you can gift a book that you believe he/she will love to read. Otherwise, a Barnes and Nobles gift card will be good. 4. Spy. Visit the person. Look around their home. Become the observer but don’t make it obvious either. Perhaps there could be something that you don’t see inside the home that you think they can use. For example a clock for the kitchen or some lovely hand towels to match their bathroom decor. 5. Details. Remember to add details to your gifts. A lovely homemade or store bought card with a heartfelt message or uote and maybe add a candy cane or some holly as a decoration.
