Questions for the Couple EB: Please tell me why you chose a destination wedding and what was the planning process like? BS: We chose to do a destination wedding simply because we are far from traditional. We wanted something fun, memorable and a vacation for us and our guests. EB: What were the people like at the resort? BS: The people at the resort were, for the most part, extremely helpful and friendly. Everyone that we worked with from planning to execution of our wedding were all super friendly and helpful.

Feature Couple (cont’d) EB: How did you two meet? BS: We met at the Hokendauqua Fire hall. My best friend from high school was dating a guy, whom she ended up marrying, and would frequent this fire hall and told me how I had to come sometime it was so much fun, etc etc etc. Well I ended up going having a great time, and spotting a guy across the bar. I asked around to a few people and found out his name and that he and his friend were the President and Vice President at the time. Well, I made it known that I was interested and after a few weeks there was supposed to be a group outing to the Haunt at Dorney Park which ended up turning into a double date... after a month or so we ended up as a couple and then two years later we got engaged.

Wedding Insurance

Story Provided By Linda Krisko, Nationwide Insurance

You plan for what seems like ages…everyone is invited…then the venue shuts down! Wedding Insurance to the rescue! The average price of a wedding can exceed $25,000, at this cost insuring the day makes sense. Wedding Insurance offers some peace of mind, and even though it can’t get you a new venue it can mitigate the financial losses. Most insurers offer two types of Wedding Insurance: Liability & Property Damage Insurance, this is can be required by the venue, it covers you or one of your guests if there are damages to the venue or if there is an injury. Without this coverage you could be financially responsible for repairs/replacement or even medical bills. Imagine some of your guests get into an argument. Instead of punching a person, someone puts their through a wall with vintage wallpaper! You are now responsible for the repair to the wall and replacing a very expensive wallpaper! With Liability & Property Damage Insurance the most you will pay is the deductible! The cost for Liability & Property Insurance varies depending how much coverage you desire, and the requirements of the venue, if any. Industry data state the approximate cost to be $150-300, often with a possible discount if bundled with the cancellation insurance. Event Cancellation/Postponement Insurance 16 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

protects your non-refundable deposits/ expenses if you need to cancel due to extreme weather, unexpected illness, etc. It will also cover no-show or bankrupt vendors, and even replacement of lost or damaged gifts. It can happen to any of us, a vendor forgets, or Mother Nature takes charge! One well known TV program touts “expect the unexpected!” Imagine you had planned the perfect holiday venue at a mountain resort and the groom breaks his leg skiing the day before! You would have lost all your deposits, along with your beautiful day all because the he was laid up in the hospital. With Cancellation/Postponement Insurance you could re-coop the money if not the day! The cost for Cancellation/Postponement depends on your approximate wedding cost; for instance a $25000 wedding will run about $200 and $50000 will run about $300 (these are not exact amounts just approximations based on industry data). For a relatively small price, comparatively speaking, Wedding Insurance will provide a little relief during the hectic preparations and on the day of the event! Contact your agent for all the details before your big day.

Venue Spotlight:

Bethlehem Brew Works By Kristina Gonzalez

It’s hip, it’s happening, it’s… Allentown! It seems that City of Angels has quickly turned into the place to go this last year with so many new restaurants and businesses opening up.

Fortunately, for those about to say “I DO”, The Fegley Family saw the potential growth in Allentown back in 2007 when they opened up their second location, The Allentown Brew Works. This amazing facility offers couples a one-of-a-kind wedding experience in the newly revived city. Exquisite Bride Magazine spoke with Banquet Sales and Catering Director, Jacqueline Svrcek, at Fegley’s Allentown Brew Works to get all the details on how this location is one-of-a-kind. Possibilities are endless for brides at the Allentown Brew Works when it comes to choosing the perfect venue location. We offer four venues and five different floors to choose from that vary from very elegant to casual so there is something for everyone. If you’re looking for something that is rustic yet elegant, the High Gravity room may be a great choice for you. This room has gorgeous features such as original brick overlays, hardwood finished floors, and views of the fermenting tanks. If the rustic look isn’t for you then why not try The Hamilton Room? With beautiful hardwood floors and elegant crystal chandeliers, this is the perfect fit for the upscale wedding of your dreams. This room is customizable so that you create your own unique space. Eight-foot windows offer an amazing view of the city and with the state of the art computer controlled sound system you have the option to DJ your own wedding.

The Five room at the Allentown Brew Works combines history with a metropolitan loft vibe. This unique space has a lot to offer to a couple and their guests. Housed in the historic Harold’s Furniture building, this venue space includes the original 18th century showroom wood floors, beautiful panoramic views, and LED atmospheric lighting. Seating for up to 220 guests, this space is able to accommodate large wedding parties with ease. If the Five room isn’t your style, have no fear, there are still other options. The Silk Lounge is a laid back venue that is one of the most popular spots for a reception. The Silk lounge offers a full service bar, DJ capabilities, and laid back lounge chairs and couches. There is even a private VIP room.

Venue Spotlight(cont’d.)

Out of all these rooms, Svrcek mentions that, “Silk Lounge is popular for a cocktail hour or after party, and FIVE is the most popular for a reception.” When asked what makes Fegley’s Allentown Brew Work stand out, Svrcek states that, “Our venue is a 6 story building, which with 4 different floors to choose from the couple can separate the different aspects of the wedding (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, after party). We have had couples use only 1 floor, we have had couples book all of the floors for the night, if they are available.” Along with these incredible spaces couples are also offered a complimentary tasting, VIP rooms for the preceremony or pre-reception with complimentary beer and champagne and light snacks for the bridal party. Also you have the options to take some unique photographs in the areas of the brewery, especially with the fermenting tanks. 20 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

To go along with these great location options is a variety of menu choices that are customizable and the full menu is available in advance on their website. Couples can pick and choose from the choices listed to create their own custom package. Svrcek notes that the trend is toward cocktail style weddings with multiple food stations. With all the different rooms and a wide food menu to choose from, Allentown Brew Works will make sure your wedding day goes off without a hitch.

Vendor Spotlight:

Divine Catering By Kristina Gonzalez Photographs Provided By: Divine Catering

What do guests always seem to remember weeks after the wedding? According to Kevin Spiegler, owner of Divine Catering in Easton, it almost always seems to be the food. Whether it be hors d’oeurves or a five course dinner, it’s important to pick a caterer that will have your guests raving long after the wedding is over. Spiegler and his team at Divine Catering can create a menu for your special day that can do just this and more. Since graduating culinary school in 2003 from Lehigh Carbon Community College, Spiegler has gained much experience over the years. He spent a few years working in Philadelphia mastering his technique in mainly French and New American restaurants in the city and even though he went back to school to study something different, he couldn’t stay away from the culinary world and eventually fell right back into the food industry. By November 2012, Spiegler officially opened Divine Catering. When asked why he wanted to start his own catering company the answer was simple, “I felt like working for other people was not what I wanted to do anymore. I wanted to be my own boss.” Spiegler explains that his team has truly modernized what other caterers have been doing in the Lehigh Valley. Divine Catering takes a fresh, local approach when it comes to cooking. Spiegler’s cuisine is French inspired, but also incorporates a new American/ Continental taste. However, couples shouldn’t feel like their menu choices are limited to a certain style. The culinary team at Divine

Catering is more than willing to help them create their own unique menu that fits their specific taste and meets their budget. Catering at least 50 weddings a year, the Divine Catering team has had his share of unique menus that fit different palettes. According to Spiegler, trends are changing and couples have been more into creating an elaborate, longer cocktail hour with hor d’oeurves that are much more innovative than your typical “pigs in a blanket”. When it comes to the main course, Spiegler says instead of the typical plated dinner that would include soup, salad, and an entrée, couples have been choosing more elegant options such as a multi-course small plate meal or tapas style.

Continued on p24 Winter 2015 | Exquisite Bride 23

Vendor Spotlight (cont’d.) When it comes to the dessert, Divine Catering offers a full selection that is made in house and also has a pastry chef who can design your wedding cake for you as well. When you choose Divine Catering for your special, you can be assured that the food you’re getting that day is not only creative, but local and fresh. Spiegler likes to purchase local ingredients, such as produce and meats that are sourced from within a 50 mile radius. Of course, the seafood is also fresh and never frozen. This is just one of the many things that makes Divine Catering stand out amongst other caterers in the Lehigh Valley area. Choosing Divine Catering for your wedding ensures that you’ll get quality food and customer service. Everything is made from scratch. Still craving Spiegler’s food after the big day? Luckily, guests can head over to his new restaurant, Bistro Pomme Verte, for some French inspired farm to table cuisine. This restaurant is a hidden gem in Easton, and offers an intimate, private setting for a special night out or a small special event. Able to seat up to 65 guests, Bistro Pomme Verte is perfect

24 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

for hosting an engagement or bridal party. An extra bonus for booking a private event at Spiegler’s restaurant is there is no rental fee so you are only charged for the food. Exquisite Bride asked Spiegler what advice he would offer to brides when choosing a caterer, he responded with “Don’t book without a tasting.” That may seem like common sense, but it does happen. He also says that it is important to read your contracts before signing and definitely shop around to see what is out there instead of choosing the first caterer you meet with. Choosing the right one can make or break your big day.

Hotel Bethlehem

By Kristina Gonzalez Photographs Courtesy of Historic Hotel Bethlehem

If you’re a true Lehigh Valley or even more specific a Bethlehem native, then there is one place you may have always dreamt of having your fairytale wedding and that is the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.

This notable location in the heart of historic downtown Bethlehem has been hosting weddings since 1922, which is when the hotel first opened. With multiple rooms to choose from, couples are destined to find a space that fits their vision for their perfect day. Exquisite Bride Magazine spoke with Marketing Coordinator, Brynn Levine, to get all the details on what makes the Historic Hotel Bethlehem the perfect choice for you and your guests. The Historic Hotel Bethlehem offers a variety of spacious, elegant rooms for couples to choose from. The Grand Ballroom accommodates up to 250 guests, and contains many extravagant features. Levine states, “On the Mezzanine, beautiful balconies and four large arched mirrors make the magnificent Grand Ballroom one of the most exquisite grand banquet rooms in the Lehigh Valley.” The Mural Ballroom can accommodate 140 guests, and truly stands out with its unique features. It boasts seven large murals, painted by George Gray and have hung there since 1937. These large murals tell the story of the history of Bethlehem. In particular, the story of how Count Zinzendorf and other early settlers met on Christmas Eve in 1741 in a crude cabin on the site now occupied by the hotel, and named the city of Bethlehem. Besides these two lavish ballrooms, the Historic Hotel Bethlehem also has more intimate

settings for smaller wedding parties. The 1741 on the Terrace can host up to 60 guests and if you are looking for even more intimate the Lehigh and Lafayette rooms are perfect for wedding parties with up to 40 guests. If you’re looking to have your ceremony at the hotel as well, the Hotel can absolutely accommodate you. Levine states, “Inside the hotel, we use the Mural Ballroom for ceremonies, as it has the columns in the room that make the perfect walkway for a ceremony. We also have outdoor ceremonies in the industrial quarters (located right behind the hotel), for those who enjoy the history of Bethlehem or just the scenery.”

Winter 2015 | Exquisite Bride 27

Venue Spotlight (cont’d) Along with these historic rooms, the hotel also offers incredible weddings packages from couples to choose from. Each package offers hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail hour, champagne toast, open bar, full dinner, cake cutting, overnight bridal suite, bridal party hospitality suite, house linens, day of Maître d’ and experienced wedding planner. Each package offers different items making your day stress-free. The wedding specialists at the hotel help customize packages so that couples are completely satisfied with their special day. Besides the historic features, the Historic Hotel Bethlehem has many other things that make it stand out amongst other venues in the Lehigh Valley area. The convenience of being in historic downtown Bethlehem allows guest to walk around to shops and restaurants during their stay. Vendor Spotlight: Lauren’s Makeup Designs By Kristina Gonzalez Photographs By: Michael McNett, Maggie J, & John Wirick

When choosing the right makeup artist to put together your look for one of the biggest days of your life, you want to find someone with experience and passion.

Lauren Bennett of Lauren’s Makeup Designs in Allentown, has been a professional makeup artist for 11 years and is definitely someone to put on the top of your list. With past experience doing freelance work for well-known makeup companies such as Prescriptives, Chanel, Christian Dior and Estee Lauder, be assured that you’ll be looking gorgeous on your wedding day when choosing Lauren and her team. Bennett’s love for makeup artistry began when she was working for one of the most prestigious makeup companies out there: MAC. From learning the basics of color to being certified in tattoo and brow covering, Bennett kept expanding her knowledge so she could become a well-rounded makeup artist. She went onto to work for Neiman Marcus for 3 years as a

cosmetic sales associate and artist until she opened Lauren’s Makeup Designs in April 2011. When asked why she went into the makeup industry, Bennett says “I went into the makeup industry because I love making people look and feel their best! There is something about the way they look in the mirror and look back at you and say WOW! The line we use on everything and I have on my wall at the studio is: If you are Confident, you are Beautiful. I live by that every day!” At Lauren’s Makeup Designs a variety of different services are offered to brides and their bridal party. Bennett’s team offers airbrush and traditional makeup applications to all clients, which include false eyelashes with each application. Another unique service offered by Lauren’s Makeup Designs is organic airbrush tanning. Bennett mentions that brides can request a tanning party at the studio which allows anyone in the wedding to receive a tan. In addition, the person who hosts the party receives a discounted tan. If you choose to go with Lauren’s Makeup Designs for your makeup for your wedding, you don’t need to worry about traveling to Bennett’s studio to get your makeup application. Bennett offers onsite makeup application and pricing to fit into all budgets.

Vendor Spotlight (cont’d.)

When it comes to choosing between traditional makeup application and airbrush makeup, Bennett says that brides are choosing the water and sweat resistant airbrush makeup. Trends that Bennett is noticing for the upcoming wedding season for brides is that ladies are looking for their skin to have a healthy, sun kissed glow or an overall matte porcelain finish. An all-natural looks that enhances a brides features. Also, brides seem to still be choosing the traditional smoky eye look. One trend that Bennett notices is fading out this season is extreme, harsh contouring. At Lauren’s Makeup Designs you’ll find a variety of excellent makeup products being used. The airbrush makeup comes from one of the top companies in the industry, TEMPTU.

Almost all the other makeup products come from Bennett’s makeup line that was launched in 2014: Beauty by Bennett. Having her own makeup line truly makes Bennett a unique makeup artist in the Lehigh Valley. When asked what else makes Lauren’s Makeup Designs standout Bennett states, “I believe that this company is focused on making our brides feel comfortable on their wedding day. Each member of my team has been trained with one goal in mind: a flawless finish. Each brides gets a trial with the makeup artist she selects. The trial allows the bride and her artist to discuss what type of look she is going for. It allows the bride to get a preview of how she is going to look on her big day.” Lauren’s Makeup Designs is currently booking for dates in 2016 & 2017.

The Wedding Planner: Yes or No? By Samantha Parks

It is the official time where true love has changed form: you are no longer “dating” or “in a relationship” you are ENGAGED and take on a new role, that of a fiancé.

First things first, it is time to build the perfect team to create the most magnificent day ahead. How do you select the person who is going to guide you through the year(s) of planning and your wedding day? Who do you select to help you through the planning process of one of the biggest days of your life? It is important to have someone that you will truly bond with and trust to assist you the entire way. During your venue scouting and wedding planning research, you will come across two different types of planners. 34 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

The first is a wedding planner/designer and the second is a catering manager/venue coordinator. There are significant differences between the two and it is important to select someone that will not only bring out your design but also make it a true celebration. A wedding planner/designer specializes in event planning and design. They typically have a large number of vendors that they work with and can recommend and can create a day of beauty and fun for you and your guests.

The Wedding Planner(cont’d.) Their goal is to be organized, prepared and to be your personal filing cabinet of wedding knowledge. This will lead to a fluid and celebratory one-of-a-kind wedding day. A catering manager/venue coordinator is usually exclusive to the venue and will be less involved in planning, timing and design of the wedding. They are available only on the wedding day to ensure that everything at the venue meets all expectations. They will also provide a preferred list with vendors that familiar to the property and have continually showed reliability and quality at their past events. The venue advocate will assist you with anything contractual to the venue specifically, however, they will not manage your vendor team, create and execute your day of timeline, or jump into the special details of your wedding day. These key elements are the first step in asking yourself, “Do I need a wedding planner?” If you choose a wedding planner, remember they will become your advocate and the success of your wedding day is in their skilled hands. Love Blooms: Floral Trends for 2016 By Kristina Gonzalez

After your significant other pops the question and the excitement dies down, the planning process quickly kicks into gear. One of the first things you may do, besides picking out a venue or caterer, is find a florist to help you transform your venue. Picking out the right flowers may be difficult if you haven’t been keeping up with all the floral trends. Exquisite Bride Magazine has been in touch with some of the top florist in the Lehigh Valley area who gave us the scoop on the all the floral trends for the 2016 wedding season. It is important to know what’s in style for boutonnieres and corsages so that they complement the outfits and stand out in pictures. For this topic, we talked to Mikey Brown of Michael Thomas Floral Design Studios located in Allentown for all the latest floral styles for these specific pieces.

38 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

Being in the industry for about 40 years, Brown has seen a lot of changes. According to Brown, corsages for mothers and grandmothers are more understated this season and couples are choosing wrist corsages instead of pin-on ones. Brown also mentions that the stems of the flowers are wrapped in ribbon or twine. Colors to keep in mind for boutonnieres and corsages are blues, yellows, fall tones, pastels, and softer colors. An orange or peach colored flower against blue really pops in photographs. Brides are also taking the time to put extra detail into the boutonnieres and corsages. Rhinestones and jewels are popular of course, but also more heirlooms are being added to women’s’ corsages. Brown says that the men are still preferring to keep it simple. If you’re looking to make them extra unique, Brown says to include berries, dried flowers, or wildflowers to make the piece not so commercial.

When asked what advice he offers to those picking out these accent floral pieces Brown states. “You need to know what the person is wearing first, you can’t accessorize a dress or tux before you know what it is.” First impressions are always important, so you want to make sure that the flowers that your guests see when walking into the ceremony site create the perfect setting for when you say “I Do.” Chris Gregory, from Phoebe Floral in Allentown, gave us her insights on the latest trends for reception flowers. Gregory says that a new trend that she’s noticing this year is that couples are doing a floral ornament at the altar or a center piece for a unity candle. If you are planning on an outdoor ceremony, keep in mind how you’d like to decorate the arch with flowers if you’re planning to include one. Gregory mentions that the rustic look is still very popular going into the 2016 wedding season. Rustic flowers are popular

such as baby’s breath, daisies, and a variety of succulents just to name a few. Brides are going for a softer, romantic look for the ceremony. Gregory says this includes softer pinks, blues, or peach when choosing colors. Also a lot of burlap, lace, and other fabrics are being incorporated to go along with the rustic trend. For down the Aisle, Gregory mentions that rose petals and lanterns can add a special added touch. Most important, it is essential that everything blends and that is well coordinated. You don’t want the flowers to overwhelm the ceremony site so keep it more natural! Before the beautiful bride makes her way down the aisle, the guests first see the bridesmaids and groomsmen leading in the bride. Guest will be focusing not only on the bridesmaid’s dresses, but the as well. To help you choose the perfect bouquets for your girls that will also compliment your own, we’ve asked Jacqueline Bodor from Pondelek’s Florist & Gifts in Hellertown for expert advice. The first trend that stands out to Bodor the

most is that color that has become popular this upcoming season is coral. Though purple has been a very popular color for the past 3 years, it is finally starting to fade out. Coral, along with different shades of green, is what Bodor predicts is going to be the popular picks for the 2016 season.

Continued on p40 Winter 2015 | Exquisite Bride 39

Love Blooms (cont’d.) Flowers with texture are also becoming more popular, for example coxcombs. Bodor mentions that the vintage look in the bouquets is still popular, such as garden roses and natural unstructured bouquets. When asked what trends for bridesmaid’s bouquets are starting to fade out Bodor says, “Structured bridesmaids bouquets or bridesmaids bouquets in plastic holders are on the down turn.”

coordinate with it After the ceremony, your guests will make their way to the reception where more gorgeous floral arrangements can be seen. When it came to the latest trends with reception flowers we turned to Keith Royal from Ruby’s Floral Factory, which is located in the new hip, center city in Allentown. Though Ruby’s Floral Factory has only been around for about 3 years, Royal has over twenty years of experience in the industry.

In terms of accent décor on the bridesmaid bouquets, Bodor recalls one wedding wear they place monogrammed pins on top of the handle of the bouquet. There is definitely a growing trend of personalizing the bridesmaid bouquets to the theme of the wedding. When asked if brides are adding unique foliage to the bridesmaid bouquet Bodor says, “A strong trend is dusty miller, and that is an annual plant. In addition, herbs such as rosemary are now being added which gives a nice scent to the bouquets.” Some final advice, Bodor adds “Choose the bridal bouquet first and then extract some of the expensive flowers out and give the bridesmaids a bouquets that will

When asked what the floral trends for receptions are for the 2016 wedding season, Royal says, “People are going more towards a contemporary, classy feel. They’re alternating highs and lows, and some are doing lanterns which are big for next year.” The flowers are simple and clean rather than a mix of different flowers. Also, more muted tones are being chosen, as well as lime green.

40 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

For centerpieces, Royal says brides have been choosing more garden roses, calla lilies, peonies, and baby’s breath. When it comes to decorating the table, Royal says couples are choosing a more stylized table. Couples are decorating the tables so that it reflects their personalities and so that it tells a story about their relationship.

For the

journey ahead.

Royal shared that one wedding he designed used books in combination with the flowers. What not to put on the table? Mason jars.

Though the rustic trend is still in, couples are now choosing unique vases to hold the flowers. Royal offered great advice for choosing reception flowers as well, “Be mindful of the budget, and choose a florist that can give you the biggest ‘wow’ for what you can afford. If a bride comes in and only wants to spend $20 a table, you want a florist that can create something incredible.” Also, Royal advises to stay away from DIY projects. The prices are not accurate and the project itself can be very deceiving.

To help you create the perfect bouquet, we’ve talked to Monica Yurconic-Groff and Keitha Pavolka from Ross Plants and Flowers in Orefield. One of the biggest trends the ladies from Ross have been noticing is a lot of color. Yurconic-Groff and Pavolka say that the colors used to be subtle, but now brides are looking for a lot of color but are continuing with a rustic, natural feel. A lot of pods and branches are being used. The bouquets have more of a natural, garden feel. Yurconic-Groff mentions that baby’s breath it coming back since it is earthy and simple. She mentions that some brides are even doing a whole bouquet of baby’s breath or just adding one single flower to the bouquet with it.

The bridal bouquets are also being given some sentimental touches she mentions, such as incorporating material from the mother’s or grandmothers wedding dress. Love Blooms (cont’d.) As for colors, brides are leaning more towards yellows, oranges, and blues. Pavolka and Yurconic-Groff focus on the importance of the bouquet complimenting the dress. YurconicGroff offers some final advice for brides who are picking a florist, “Have trust in your florist, be able to connect with them. As a bride you need to make sure they understand what you want and that they can bring it to life. Connect with them and feel as though you can call on them. Develop a relationship with them and be comfortable.”

Take It Up a Notch Upgrade and Venue Choices

By Laurin Fegley, Owner, Simply Smooth Photographs Courtesy of Simply Smooth

With some of the most popular times for engagement proposals coming up at Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine’s Day, it is time to start thinking wedding planning. Brides that come to us don’t always know where to start when it comes to planning and design. We try to help make the process easier by asking some questions about the concept, approximate budget, venue choice, time of year and any design ideas they might have in mind for their reception. Some couples choose to go with a country club, banquet hall or hotel ballroom where additional rentals are considered an upgrade where as some couples choose an outdoor space where everything needs to be brought in. Depending on your event space, different recommendations can be made to help you achieve the most “WOW” for your money - this is where we can help! Rental needs are truly based on your venue. Common rental items are tenting, tables, chairs, linens, tableware, dance floors, lighting, climate control, just to name a few. There are basics as well as options and upgrades to every one of these selections. When booking your wedding at a hotel, country club, or any other venue where a majority of the necessities are onsite, you may only be interested in upgrading a few items. Most of the time, the tables and chairs are already provided. In this case, you may choose to upgrade to a timeless silver, gold or clear Chiavari chair or a rustic-style countryside chair.

Perhaps changing from the standard white or ivory polyester linen to a different color, texture or fabric may suit your style better. There are so many fabric, texture and color options that finding the perfect complement for your wedding should be a breeze if you start with a clear vision! A tasteful runner can also enhance a tabletop design and usually proves to be an inexpensive layer of your design.

Continued on p68 Winter 2015 | Exquisite Bride 67

Take It Up a Notch (cont’d) For the most part the tableware that a venue includes in their package is just fine, but you may choose to upgrade your guest place settings such as the plates, flatware, and glassware which can be upgraded to newer shapes and more interesting and creative presentations. Flatware can also be gold or silver plated to go along with your theme. Another nice enhancement would be chargers which you can rent in either lacquer or glass versions and come in many colors. The more layers of design created on the table top, the more polished it will appear to your guests. That same polish can be established with a rustic wedding as well by using burlap, tree slices, drift wood, grasses, cat tails and other natural accents, with or without the typical ball mason jars! So much can be utilized from seasonal growths to accent the tables and to give the table a “fresh from the garden or just picked” look that costs very little in the end. Of course, there are other items that can be added to any venue including a dance floor. Some venues include a basic floor, but there are many options to choose from. You can go with a checkered, a seamless, or even lighted floor. Upgrading options don’t stop there. You will most likely consider lighting to enhance the overall look of the space. This can be provided by your rental company or it may be included in a package from your entertainment provider.

Most venues will have a designated space, this is something you should confirm otherwise renting one may be necessary. Many rental companies today offer LED lit bars that can be turned into a variety of colors at the flip of a switch. If you find yourself working with a blank canvas, or bare grounds, everything will need to be brought in. Planning an event on a blank canvas is not inexpensive, but lends itself to becoming memorable, unique and all yours - because nothing is cookie cutter! When starting from the ground up, you will want to take all the considerations from above, plus the different options that are available, and add additional items to that list. All this may seem to be overwhelming but this information is only

Take It Up a Notch (cont’d) intended to fully educate you on what may be needed when using a unique space. The more you know, the better prepared you can be during the planning process. In a situation where you are using an outdoor and open space, your first question could be, will we need to be covered or not? Then there comes the lighting. Various tent styles allow for different lighting options with several options being poles vs. no poles, clear span and so much more. Some tent varieties have far greater impact on budgets than others. Keep in mind when choosing a tent location that you will need to consider climate control options especially if it is a particularly warm summer day or a chilly evening? You may decide you need fans or heaters, respectively. Another aspect that often goes unnoticed is the needs of the caterer. These requirements can change depending if food is being brought in finished or being finished onsite. The necessities can range from needing chaffing

70 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

dishes to requiring a refrigerator, grills, stove or oven. It is important to know what your caterer needs if you are planning a wedding on a private property. It should also be determined if serving equipment will be needed and how the food will be served and the temperature maintained. Will it be a buffet or a plated dinner? Both have different needs in terms of serving. Another commonly overlooked item is power. If power is not supplied by the venue, temporary power will need to be brought in. It is important to speak with the venue coordinator to ensure adequate power is being supplied. No one wants a shortage in the middle of the wedding! Another tasteful upgrade item to consider for your big day is lounge or period furniture. This is nice-to-have and it does create a fun and relaxed atmosphere for your guests. These pieces can be customized to the style of your event. Often a caterer will not only help establish a list of what they need, but will also be helpful in assisting you in procuring the rest of the rental items needed. The caterer does this many times a month and is accustomed to the needs of specific venues and can save you the trouble of figuring out the learning curve on your own. Take their advice if it’s offered, it’s often well founded! Some of the most popular upgrades today include the ever popular photo booth, lighting, linen choices and unusual invitations. This is a pretty good start to venue differences in terms of rentals and some of the upgrades that need to be considered. Regardless of where your wedding is taking place, there are always upgrade options to enhance the quality of your finished presentation. Your vision can be very complete when you consider the layers in design that you will need to achieve that look!

The Bridal Veil A Finishing Touch

By Susan Powell, Owner, Bridals by Sandra

To veil or not to veil, that is the question. Today’s Bridal Designers are creating new and exciting looks for their beautiful bridal creations. For many seasons the trendy bride felt it stylish to omit this important finishing touch. However, today’s designers are featuring hair ornaments with creative veiling to complete the bridal attire. There is a very special feeling a bride gets when she puts on her veil to begin her walk down the aisle.

The bridal industry has changed greatly throughout the years. The wedding gown companies manufactured both the gown and the matching veil. They were featured together in magazine and all print ads. Today, companies are more specialized. The veils are more creative and unique. They are produced in a different facility and frequently not coming together for print ads. Although the reasons for wearing a veil differ with religious and cultural beliefs, there is no denying the emotional feeling a girl will have when placing it on her head for the very first time. In 2015, shoe designers have taken us back to‘70s with the return of the popular platform shoe. Today’s hair ornaments continue with the return of the 70’s trend by showing off the wide, Woodstock inspired headband and floral wreath. They are worn with or without the traditional bridal veil. Fashion forward veils are trimmed with the same Swarovski crystal trim or detailed lace featured on your wedding gown with many designers also choosing to add the romantic beauty of silk flowers to the veil.

The Bridal Veil cont’d The stylish Angel Cut or Shaped Veil begins at the shoulders and flows to the fingertips creating a more romantic styling. The Straight Cut Veil is worn behind the shoulders to create a more sophisticated look. Petite brides, as well as the tall model type bride, both enjoy the whimsical beauty of the cathedral length veil that will elongate the bride and show off the beautiful train detailing. The veil is cut wider to avoid hiding the beauty of your gown. This veil will be bustled into your gown during your fitting so you can appreciate its beauty without removing it at the reception. Be cautious of the classic fingertip length veil as it often cuts off the back of the gown creating an unflattering appearance of a line going across the back of your gown. It may need to be shortened during your gown fitting to avoid this unflattering line. Your Professional Bridal Consultant will assist you with these concerns to insure you the perfect gown photos. You will be able to wear the special veil only once. Be sure when shopping for your Dream Wedding Gown, you try on a veil at the same time. Don’t forget its importance. Your wedding day is a once in a lifetime moment. Shapes of Bridal Veils have changed greatly. A long cathedral veil is not cut wider than any 74 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

other veil. The long veil should be worn 12” longer than the train of the wedding gown. It will be wider than the other veils to show off the back of the gown without hiding the gorgeous back detailing of today’s fashions. A shaped veil starts at the shoulders and will also add height to that petite bride. Beaded trim on the edge of the veil will add a finishing touch to a beaded gown neckline. Today’s Bride enjoys that feminine flair. Whether arranging a wedding outdoors, on a beach, in a garden, winery or natural barn setting, the feminine, romantic appearance of that veil in the breeze is the delicate touch today’s bride appreciates.

Food Supplements Who Needs Them?

By Bud Tarreto, ND; CNC In this busy world that we live in and the combined stress of the job, families and wedding planning we don’t always seen to have the time to eat healthy. So in this day and age who Needs Food Supplements? Everyone! The Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery stated, “Health problems such as fatigue, joint inflammation and other disorders are being caused or exacerbated by nutritional deficiency.” In the late 1980’s then Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, wrote in his annual report that “90% of Americans are nutrient deficient in their diet”. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) agreed with the Surgeon General on that fact! Unfortunately, today, many people still aren’t sure about taking supplements, but here are 10 good reasons to consider supplementing your present day eating program.

Current commercial agriculture techniques leave soil deficient in important minerals, causing the food grown in this soil to share the same mineral deficiencies. Many foods are shipped long distances and are stored for long periods of time, both of which cause the depletion of vitamins in these foods, including the important B-complex and C vitamins. Food processing, cooking, and preserving leads to nutrient depletion in our food supply that makes it difficult to obtain adequate nutrition from foods alone. Many fruits and vegetables are genetically modified (GMO) to improve visual appeal and crop yields, but not nutritional value, which frequently results in lesser values than our ancestors’ food supply. Erratic eating habits, insufficient chewing of food, eating on the run, and stress contribute to escalating digestive issues which makes it difficult for our bodies to extract all the nutrients it needs from food. Pharmaceutical drug use has escalated over time. Most medications deplete essential nutrients, making people more vulnerable to deficiencies.

Food Supplements cont’d. 7. Specific times in life and health conditions may result in higher needs of certain nutrients. For example, folic acid needs tend to be higher during pregnancy, while menopausal women may be vulnerable to calcium deficiencies. 8. Increasing levels of environmental pollution in our air, water and food may cause our bodies to use more nutrients than normal to detoxify and eliminate harmful substances. This is especially true of the antioxidant vitamins, some of which include Vitamins A, C, and E. 9. We all have genetic weaknesses, including higher needs of some nutrients, higher rates of depletion for certain nutrients, and an increased likelihood of genetic expression of some illnesses if vitamin or mineral deficiencies are present. 10. Many nutrients have been proven to improve such health conditions as high cholesterol, chronic fatigue, cardiovascular issues, arthritis, birth defects, and cancer. And, supportive nutritional supplementing may help diminish hormone fluctuations and improve skin health.

78 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

With all that being said there are many product lines out there that may help with these issues. The product line I recommend is Vibe Nutritionals. Vibe Nutritionals are manufactured in an FDA approved facility and has GMP certification. Basic Protocols for Maintaining Health from Vibe Nutritionals Daily Multi Plus-a broad spectrum multi/ mineral product for everyday use. Omega 3-6-9-essential fatty acids are necessary for proper brain function, inflammation, immune support and hormonal balance. Digestive Enzymes-one of the major causes for disease, digestive issues. Digestive Enzymes help support healthy digestion. A word of caution when supplementing, make sure to consult with a health and wellness professional to avoid any possible interactions with any medications currently being used. When searching for a resort to host a destination wedding, most brides look for 3 things; first-a location where their guests will have a good time. Second, a resort that provides a quality experience without breaking the back. And finally, a property that will deliver a beautiful wedding. It is no surprise that Azul Fives is one of the most sought after resorts for destination weddings as they easily exceed those 3 “musts” and also enhance the wedding experience with group perks and free return anniversary stays.
