happy

anniversary!

This issue marks the one-year anniversary of the magazine and to say that I'm excited would most definitely be an understatement. A little more than a year ago I set out to create an outlet for me to share my creativity, as well as showcase the many splendid talents of fellow creative women. Like a magic carpet this publication has taken me on grand adventures around the world and introduced me to wonderful new friends. Along this journey I am proud that I have grown as a photographer, stylist, and editor, skills I didn't even know I would have just a few short years ago. I am humbled by the thousands of readers who have purchased copies and the wonderful notes I have received about how stories and photographs have inspired, encouraged and blessed you all. As I was planning this issue, a bumblebee theme began to surface... From fun little beethemed projects to a Queen-Bee-inspired luncheon, there is something for everyone. My favorite fact about the bumblebee is the quote by Mary Kay Ash: “Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn’t know it so it goes on flying anyway.” This quote has encouraged me at many points throughout my life and even more so now as I wade into the deeper waters of growing this magazine. There are a lot of fun adventures on the horizon for us, including an exciting reader event coming up in November; turn to page 125 for the first announcement about it (more details will be coming soon!). I hope you are delighted by the many great projects, inspiring women, and empowering stories in these pages. I know I am! This magazine is about as home-grown as they come, since every issue is planned and produced from my dining room table, so from the bottom of my heart I want to truly say “thank you” for reading and sharing with your friends. You are the reason that we've made it this far and I'm anxious to see where we go next. So, without further ado... Happy Celebrating! 2 May/june 2014 | CelebratingEverydayLife.com

Following the concert, my dad told me how proud he was with tears in his eyes. It ended up being the greatest Father's Day gift he could give me.

Jill Flory www.sewafineseam.com As a teenager I made my dad a Father’s Day card out of 24x36 poster boards. I drew big flowers and ivy on the front and inside, and on the back I made a huge UPC symbol just like the real ones. My mom still has it and I kind of feel sorry for her having to store that big thing! I sure had fun making it though!

My father always answers “world Anita Joyce peace” when asked what he wants www.cedarhillfarmhouse.com as a gift, which makes him an impossible person to shop for. One One year I wrote my dad telling him year when I was teaching we had how much he meant to me, and a few extra minutes at the end of a thanking him specifically for several school day and I had my students things he had done for me. My dad travels a lot for work, so I made him a leather cord case to carry his laptop and phone cords in. It has slots for each of the cords and rolls up and can easily fit in his suitcase or briefcase.

The year my father traveled to Tanzania, I colored an African safari picture for him, which still hangs above his dresser. I was eight, and I think we could kindly say that the shapes and placement of animals (predator and prey) was indeed creative.

My most creative Father's Day gift was the suit I hand-tailored for my dad while a senior in high school. Fast-forward thirty years and he wore the suit again during the last year of his life. Made my heart melt.

I helped my kids organize a gift scavenger hunt for Father’s Day. We labeled all our gifts with a riddle and a location clue. Each gift contained a new clue for finding the next gift. It was a big hit and proof positive that dads are never too old to enjoy a good scavenger hunt.

The most creative thing I have ever made for Father’s Day was homemade Oreo cookies in the shape of mustaches.
