Chocolatier Live/Work Maker Villiage Challenge to create a Live/Work building in the Harmony Park Entertainment District in downtown Detroit. The project will be one of six in a development to take up a gap between two existing buildings, the bookends. A pedestrian walkway is in slot three and the chocolatier is slot four. With the position on the pedestrian walkway through the site, this structure and program really had to respond to the activity in this passthrough. Different facade treatments were exlored with ways of drawing the pedestrian into the space and having them view the “performance within the structure.

Harmony Park has historically been an entertainment district in Detroit. I decided to take this chocolatier live/work space to the next level and introduced many ways experiencing chocolate. The performance of chocolate making is highlighted on every level and each of those levels introduces different ways to enjoying chocolate, the district, and city as a whole.

The multi-story atrium and many levels allow for many different experiences to occur. The performance of chocolate making is put on display for passerbys and customers to enjoy. This building will activate the park at night with the column of light and activity.
