Member Spotlight Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) was founded on March 12, 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgie. Gordon Low’s goal was for all girls to be able to serve their communities, build new skills, and help others. Over 100 years later, more than 59 million women across the U.S. are Girl Scout alumnae.

Girl Scout Juniors (4th & 5th) take responsibility for all program and some operational aspects of their group. They develop a personal leadership style, earn badges, travel, and enjoy outdoor and challenge programs.

Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes (GSNWGL) formed in 2008, as the result of a nationwide organizational realignment. Formerly six separate Councils now comprise GSNWGL, which partners with over 6,000 volunteers, serves approximately 18,000 girls, and covers 58 counties across northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The mission of Girl Scouts if to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Girl Scout Cadettes (6th & 7th) participate in the different pathways through troops, camp, travel, special interest groups and community service. Cadettes transition to the teen programs as a group and on their own.

Girl Scout Seniors (8th & 9th) are focused on community service and the Girl Scout Gold Award, which represents dedication and commitment to Girl Scouting and the community. They enjoy adventure and challenge programs and take many local and interstate trips.

There are a number of different ways girls are able to participate:

Reaching Out: We bring Girl Scouts programs to atrisk girls in the Fox Cities through lunch and after school programming at schools and community sites that serve girls in need.

Educational Programs: Girls participate in events related to a specific theme or purpose (e.g., career day, Family Science Festival, Cookie Kick-Off).

around them, learning new skills and having great experiences. Brownies take short trips, go camping, earn badges and make decisions about their group's activities.

Girl Scout Ambassadors (10th - 12th) refine leadership by working with younger girls and participating in career exploration, overnights and service projects. They travel nationally and internationally, earn the Girl Scout Gold Award and bridge to adult membership.

Through all levels of participation and different  Troops: Girls participate in a series of programs with programs in which girls are able to participate, we focus on the same group of girls over the course of an academic year. five areas:  Camp: Girls participate in day, weekend or resident camps with a focus on the outdoors and/or environmental * Leadership and Adventure education. * Health and Wellness * Art and Culture  Virtual: Girls participate in interactive, high-quality * STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) program activities in a safe, secure, online environment * Environmental Education supplemented by live events.

Series: Girls participate in a series of programs with the same group of girls relating to a specific theme or purpose (e.g., high-adventure teen group, robotics team).

Travel: The travel pathway offers girls leadership opportunities and cross-cultural understanding through local, regional, national, and international travel. Girls prepare, plan, money-earn and participate through group travel, council-sponsored trips, or nationally sponsored excursions. Membership is open to all girls ages 5-17 and adults who accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Adults age 18 and over can register as adult members. Membership is organized according to grade, with activities designed specifically for each level:

Girl Scout Daisies (K & 1st) make new friends, create and imagine, try new things, play games and earn petals based on the principles of the Girl Scout Law.

Girl Scout Brownies (2nd & 3rd) explore the world

Within these categories, girls receive the Girl Scout Leadership Experience developed by Girl Scouts of the USA. All programs are girl-led and incorporate cooperative learning and hands-on experiential learning. We want all girls to be comfortable with their peers and able to learn together! To find out more about Girl Scouting and our council please visit www.gsnwgl.org We are proud to be a part of a strong chamber like the Heart of the Valley Chamber! The HOTV Chamber helps staff connect with potential volunteers and donors, and opens up new avenues for us to tell our story to their audience.
