It is very unfortunate that we need to address this topic in our seemingly safe haven of the Heart of the Valley. However, the tragedy of an active shooter or violent intruder is getting out of control and our local communities and businesses have been affected. The HOTV Chamber cares about our communities, chamber members, families and friends. The Orlando tragedy has made it imperative that we bring awareness and education on this subject sooner than later to ensure your safety. We have partnered with The Kaukauna Police Department to hold a hands-on Active Shooter Response Training Class, ALICE. ALICE – stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate. It is a set of proactive, options-based strategies, that increase your chances of survival during a violent intruder or Active Shooter event. This day long training course is designed to teach you the skills and strategies that bridge the gap between the time a violent event begins and law enforcement arrives.

You will become knowledgeable in statistics and information about active shooter situations and how ALICE training is effective.

You will experience live scenario drills that will take you through an active shooting and how to respond.

You will be able to create an emergency response plan to implement within your organization.

We will be offering 2 dates for this one day training. Spots are limited to the first 25 people each day and limited to 2 per business per day. We will place names on a waiting list if spots become available. Dates: Wednesday, July 13 or Thursday, July 14 Time: 8am-3pm Location: (New) Kaukauna Police Station Cost: $75 per person ($125 for non-members) Lunch is included. Payment required at the time of registration To register, you can call the chamber at 920.766.1616 or email Diane@heartofthevalleychamber.com. Space is limited.

Too Busy for Business? Ever heard the saying, “If you need something done, give it to a busy person.”? While that may work for errands, many business owners are finding they’re too busy for business anymore. Small business has changed a lot over the past decade and the demands on a business owner’s time have multiplied like rabbits. Businesses must now connect with buyers offline and on through: *Blogging *Videos *Creating and providing helpful content *Tying different forms of content aimed at conversion into the appropriate level of the sales funnel *Maintaining a fan page and/or multiple social media profiles *Publishing on thought leader and niche social sites like Medium, Quora, and LinkedIn publishing *Analyzing your analytics *Tweaking all of this knowledge and know-how each time a platform changes or rolls out a new feature, and keeping up with new technology WHEW! Twenty two years ago, my friend and I considered building salon studios in Appleton. The salon studio concept had already been around for ten years before this in larger cities such as Milwaukee and we wanted to bring it to the valley. Although it was a great idea, we chose to take a different direction in business partnership. I continued to be in business for my self via salon chair rental until December 2004. At that time, I left the salon industry and worked from home successfully as a Certified Lifestyle Coach. Escape Salon Studios was birthed out of adversity. In June of 2013, my husband lost his job and two weeks later his part time inventory business and I had minimized my lifestyle coaching business. I chose to return to the salon industry as a stylist chair renter and rebuild. I was not satisfied with location and salon space where I was rebuilding, so we (my husband and I) started laying the groundwork for Escape Salon Studios. We had several bumps, detours and potholes on our journey prior to opening but we built relationships and trusted those people who entered our business path. (Many of whom are HOTV Chamber Members). On January 15, 2015, Escape Salon Studios opened at full capacity with seventeen salon and spa professionals filling nine studios. (SO PROUD of this moment) As landlords, we provide private and salon and spa studios that the business owner can customize with paint color, decor, etc to meet their business needs. We offer many amenities, (please refer to website) including a Heart of the Valley Chamber Membership. Please visit us and stroll through the hallway that has the feel of a European village complete with courtyards, fountain and black wrought iron hanging signs for each business.

Escape Salon Studios, its location and amenities, especially the HOTV Membership, has brought much success to U Unlimited. As a chamber member I have taken advantage of: networking events such as business card exchanges, socials and have donated to the chamber raffles for exposure and new clients. As a result, from January 2015 to the present I have had a 75% increase in revenue, been selected as the official make up artist for Fox 11- The Better Half (Packer wives weekly talk show), Women’s Magazine and Debbie Daanen Photography (Senior Portraits).
