Urban Stories! James Riley Photographic Techniques Urban Spaces

Mind Map Of Ideas

•  Urban areas are to do with tall building in any large ci@es. •  Of rela@ng to, or located in a city. characteris@c of the city or city life.

Ar@st Research Johnny Jetstream

This photography photo looks like a 3D shape from the buildings. I like to way that it’s black and white with the sky and added colour on the buildings.

The effect in this photograph has light and dark grey and some black tones. The light grey is used on most of the sky and darker on the buildings. I’m happy with this because the the colour tones make the photo look like that it’s in very cold weather.

This funny shaped sepia coloured mirror shows most if everything in different angles. I feel quite weird looking at this shaped mirror because it can make you feel funny if your are in front of this mirror.

This photo edited in black and white is the same colour as the building much white is edited with the sky.

This photograph may look like it’s taken at night, but it was really taken at day by puJng on full colour scheme to any selected areas such as windows and other areas on the photo itself.

Derelict! •  Buildings that s@ll stand but no longer in use. •  Buildings that are leL rusty and dirty. •  Including broken windows empty rooms and any other areas that are no longer in use.

Derelict Buildings

The old Bata Shoe Factory built in 1932, located in East Tilbury, Essex is no longer in use since 2005. It s@ll stands as a major Britain landmark. It helped to grow the town for the popula@on.

Mind Map Of The Photo •  Strengths and weaknesses •  The derelict building is not exactly in the right centre of the photo. If I was to edit this photo again, I would crop it so the the building is in the right place. •  It looks a bit dark but it’s taken at the right adjustments how the photo really looks. •  The photo almost looks like it’s further away.

Derelict Buildings

The rusty bricks and windows with some open s@ll remain since aLer the factory closed, which s@ll looks like the factory is half reinstated.

Derelict Buildings

The old Coalhouse Fort building located in East Tilbury was used for the ship baWle on the River Thames during World War II and its not much in use now days.

Derelict Buildings

A derelict house s@ll stands today which is no longer in use. It is located just outside Aveley, Thurrock. A lot of nega@ve space in this photo which is most of the sky.

This edited photo has edited in photoshop for not that much @me, it is excellent because it looks like it gives out colours of a rainbow in diamonds, also by reflected to other building as well.

A blue colour on most of this photo with some green in the clouds and light and dark in the Gherkin building.

This funny shaped mirror unedited, once again shows most of everything in different angles.

The city of London is slowly changing, you maybe surprised to see lots of contractors hard at work by built more and more buildings. This one has already been completed, its known as the ‘Heron Tower’.

Evalua@on My evalua@on was when taking this photograph was to capture buildings with nega@ve spaces, reflec@ons, focused and close-‐ups. The photograph of buildings by the photographer Johnny Jetstream par@cularly inspired me because his work was outstanding with mostly of his photography like 3D shapes. The photos I took had mostly strong composi@on because most photos are very balanced it looks both ways leL and right and a few nega@ve spaces. If I was to reshoot your photo I would change the composi@on to use more @me to use less nega@ve space. I took the photograph from a high view point with a close-‐up shot. The result is from a good angle.
