We are dedicating this month’s newsletter to the volunteers for Keep Itawamba Beautiful! ICDC would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped make our first Keep Itawamba Beautiful event a huge success! Group leaders coordinated 161 volunteers throughout the county to pick-up trash on April 23rd. 4.02 tons of trash was collected as a result of these efforts! Interesting finds were discovered over the course of the day. Logan Johnson from Pine Grove Church of Christ found a chipmunk, Tremont First Baptist had a group leader buy drinks for her group for $11 and shortly after the crew returned to work they discovered $11 in cash lying on the ground, and a group of volunteers from Carolina RCDC found a turtle and a copperhead snake! The group saved the turtle and left the snake. The Itawamba County Board of Supervisors assisted in recruiting group leaders, coordinating with Mark Stanford-Itawamba County Sanitation Department for trash pick-up and glove donations, and worked with Larry Cromeans-Road Manager on the donation of safety-vests. Brian Estes with the Itawamba County Sherriff’s Department advised group leaders on safety and suggested the roads in need of attention. Thank you to Sherriff Dickinson for all the cleanup efforts on the main roads in the county! All the volunteer groups enjoyed getting together to clean up the county. After the clean-up was done, everyone enjoyed fellowship and good eats! Thank you again for investing time and efforts in Keeping Itawamba Beautiful! Stay tuned for the date and time of our clean-up efforts this fall!!
