OLIVINE with BAYLDONITE and MALACHITE Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

6.4 x 6.5 x 3.6 cm This vivid combination of olivine with balydonite and malachite is from the Hoppel Collection. It appeared in a color illustration in Encyclopedia of Minerals, 2nd Edition in 1990. Estimate: $8,000 - $10,000

AZURITE on MALACHITE Milpillas Mine, Sonora, Mexico 7.5 x 6.3 x 4.5 cm A dramatic contrast of two species from this famous mine which is effectively now closed for good; crystals of deep blue azurites clustered together on a bed of velvety malachite crystals. Estimate: $5,000-7,500

HYALITE OPAL Zacatecas, Mexico 6.4 x 4.8 x 3.5 cm Pale yellow botryoidal opal glows extreme neon under blacklight and shows significant fluorescence under natural sunlight. From the recent 2013-2014 finds brought to market by Peter Megaw. The mine site has been exhausted. Estimate: $2,500

BARITE on LIMESTONE Linwood Mine, Buffalo, Scott County, Iowa 9.5 x 5.1 x 3.2 cm The Linwood Mine has been open since the 1940s but rarely produced specimens till recently. Perched on limestone matrix, this doubly-terminated barite crystal is lustrous and gemmy! Estimate: $1,500

CALCITE Cumberland Mine, Smith County, Tennessee 13.0 x 11.4 x 4.6 cm This doubly-terminated calcite crystal is perches aesthetically on matrix. Dr. Steve Neely purchased this personally from the miners from the recent 2014 discoveries at the Cumberland Mine. Donated by Dr. Steve Neely
