Remembering Family & Friends John C. “Jack” Vander Plaat, CFSP, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Born in Garfield, Jack was a graduate of Eastern Academy, then served in the Army Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet during World War II. Following his service he went to McAllister College of Mortuary Science graduating in 1948, then received his NJ state license as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. He joined his father in the operation of the Vander Plaat Home in Garfield which his grandfather established in 1894. In 1952 Jack and his father opened a branch in Wyckoff. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Elizabeth, his beloved children Jay Vander Plaat of Huletts Landing, NY, Linda and her husband Bill Brock of Wyckoff, and Brenda and her husband Russ Hoeffs of Midland Park, his six grandchildren: Joseph, Tim, Robert, Jackie, Kelly and Matthew, and 12 great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s name to the Holland Christian Home, 151 Graham Ave., North Haledon, NJ 07508.
Welcome New Membership Team: Esther Teller Membership Director, Ext. 101 Esther R. Teller joins OGR as the new Membership Director. Esther has worked in nonprofit as a public relations professional, development director, special event producer and grant-writer. She has reviewed grant proposals for the Bureau of Primary Healthcare in Washington, D.C. to determine funding merit for community health centers throughout the U.S. She graduated from Brooklyn College, City University of New York, and is the proud mom of a teenaged daughter from China.
Diane Durbin Membership Coordinator, Ext. 100 Diane joins OGR as the new Membership Coordinator. She is from Sugar Land, Texas. She received degrees from both Texas A&M University and St. Edward’s University. With several years of experience in customer service and community relations, she is proud to work for an organization in which everyone involved has a huge heart and truly enjoys serving others.
