In this semester the IEE is organizing three events related to the topic “Educación y Desarrollo sostenible”: On Thursday, September 5, 2013 we invite you to the presentation “Studying and Investigating in Germany”. We will inform about the studying opportunities and scholarships offered by the DAAD and present the different programs. This event takes places from 5.30 p.m. - 7.30 p.m. in the room 13G2 at Universidad del Norte. Persons who are interested in participation can assign by e-mail to estudioseuropeos@uninorte.edu.co

Like last year we will present two German movies with Spanish subtitles on October 3 (German Unity Day) from 5.30 p.m. - 9.30 p.m. In cooperation with the Centro Cultural Cayena and Ramon Garcia-Ziemson of the Depto. de Communicaciones of the Universidad del Norte we will present a Double Feature with the movies “Sonnenallee” and “Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei/The educators ” in the Salon de Proyecciones (Bloque B, Primer piso) at Universidad del Norte. •On October 18 the IEE is organizing the forum “Desarrollo sostenible in Barranquilla”. We will discuss about the possibilities and problems of sustainable development in Barranquilla. The forum will take place from 10.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. in the Salón de Proyecciones (Bloque B, primer Piso). Soon there will be more information on our Facebook page and on the home page of the institute.

Recently we received very good news: The application of the institute for supporting a Jean Monet Module was approved by the European Commission. In the next three year the European Commission will fund each year an course on the topic „La Unión Europea y América Latina: Alianza para el desarrollo Sostenible“. The institute will organize this course in cooperation with Silvana Insignares of the Depto. de Derecho y Ciencias Politicas of Universidad del Norte. The first course will take place approximately in March 2014. Persons who are interested in participation can apply for it. Soon we will publish an announcement on the home page of the institute. In the series „Documentos de trabajo“ we have published a new document:
Jerenid Jiménez: “Modelo Unión Europea 2013” Documento de trabajo del IEE 04. Agosto 2013.
This essay describes the simulation game of the European Union at Universidad del Norte in May 2013. This game was funded by the German Embassy in Bogotá and was organized within the frame of the European Day 2013 in Barranquilla. It was opened by the ambassador of the EU, Maria van Gool and the Consul of Germany in Cartagena, Frank Bolle. The working paper presents the conclusions and experiences of the Model and can be also used as instruction for future student simulations of the European Union:
