What's On At Easter 2021

Page 1

Welcome to Riverside Stables for the 2021 Easter Yearling Sale. It’s with added excitement I get to write that sentence, given what went down last year.

etc) or a value G1 winner (Aristia ($80,000), Nettoyer ($20,000), Funstar ($80,000), Exceedance ($180,000), Quick Thinker ($100,000) etc), you’ll find them at Easter. It’s also the one-stop shop for international success – think Aethero, Able Friend, Run Fox Run, Eagle Way, Rocket Spade, Southern Legend, Not Listenin’tome, Hall Of Fame, Summer Passage, Mustaaqeem, Atyaab etc.

Wind the clock back 12 months and we were all cooped up in our homes, Easter was held as the world’s first Virtual yearling sale and the immediate uncertainty surrounding our great industry was real.

And there’s no reason to suggest this year’s catalogue doesn’t have the next Golden Slipper or Coolmore Stud Stakes or Doncaster or Derby or Golden Rose or Hong Kong International Sprint winner in it.

But such is the strength and resilience of the people involved in racing, we have not only survived the pandemic but surged forward like no other entertainment peer in the world.

Among the 466 catalogued lots are progeny of the likes of Pinot, Catchy, First Seal, Srikandi, Politeness, Snitzerland, Lasqueti Spirit, Norzita, Our Egyptian Raine, Suavito, as well as siblings to stars such as Exceedance, Pierata, Vow And Declare, Te Akau Shark, Tagaloa, Super Seth, Southern Legend, She Will Reign, Invincibella etc.

And now, here we are, ready for what will no doubt be one of the most satisfying Easter Sales for our clients in history, given the past 12 months. Easter is one of the great events on the global social thoroughbred calendar. It’s a week-long festival of events, celebrations and, of course, selling the best yearlings prepared by the best horsemen and horsewomen in the southern hemisphere. It has long been marketed as The Best of the Best, and for good reason.

There is the usual incredible strength among the stallions represented which includes the likes of I Am Invincible, Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt, Pierro, Zoustar, Fastnet Rock, Written Tycoon, Exceed And Excel, Savabeel, Lonhro, So You Think, Sebring, Deep Field, Street Boss etc and, very significantly, yearlings from the final crop of Redoute’s Choice. The best of the international stallions are also represented - Deep Impact, Frankel, Kingman, Lord Kanaloa, Medaglia d’Oro, Siyouni, Tapit, Duramente etc – the best progeny of an exciting group of first season sires such as Merchant Navy, Russian Revolution, Almanzor, Hellbent, Menari, Pariah, Ribchester, Impending, Churchill and Caravaggio are involved and yearlings by a legion of Australasia’s most promising young stallions like Capitalist, Extreme Choice, Shamus Award, Shalaa, American Pharoah and Toronado among others are also to be offered.

With 23 individual G1 winners from the sale since 2018 (at time of print), it is the auction where you are most likely to source an elite racehorse from out of all the Australasian yearling sales.

It will be fantastic to welcome you all back to Riverside again for an Easter Sale.

Easter is also a chance for the industry’s participants to come together to celebrate the finest yearlings this part of the world produces.

The sale week will again be conducted with Inglis’ Covid-safe plan in place which will see QR code check ins for all patrons.

While the two-day sale on April 6 and 7 will be both frenetic and fantastic, there are many other events and activities around the auction that will help create a world-class spectacle at Riverside.

There will still be a range of hospitality options available including Ringside Dining, Barn Pavilions, the Newmarket Restaurant, 1867 Lounge, Inglis Day Spa and many others.

This What’s On booklet aims to provide you with a full array of information of things to do and events and activities to be a part of in the lead-up to and during the Easter Sale.

I look forward to seeing you all at Riverside for Easter and if you have any questions in the lead-up to or during the sale, please do not hesitate to contact myself or a member of the Inglis team.

The Aperol Garden – which was successfully launched at Classic – will return to Riverside, as will Welcome Drinks under the Two Figs. The Easter Cocktail party makes its comeback, the Messina gelato stand is back and significant media will be doing live broadcasts on-site at Riverside. For the first time in many years, the Easter Sale falls on the official Easter weekend, so keep an eye out for some easter eggs and hot cross buns from the marketing team too! Once all the pre-sale events are done, the focus again centres on the Riverside auditorium for two days of world-class selling action. Easter continues to shine above the rest as the sale where buyers can maximise their investments, both on the track and in retirement. Be it a colt (The Autumn Sun, Merchant Navy, Trapeze Artist, Super Seth etc), a filly (Loving Gaby, Personal, Dame Giselle, Pinot etc), a 2YO (Estijaab, Catchy, Flying Artie, Home Affairs, Prized Icon

Jessie Whipp The Paper Mill in Liverpool, not far from Riverside, is a great one stop shop. Located in a cool heritage building right on the banks of the Georges River, it’s open from morning coffees through to dinner and has something for everyone with four restaurants under the one roof.

Brett Gilding The Clovelly Hotel is my favourite spot to watch the races or rugby. It’s a great sporting pub with one of the best views in Sydney. Perfect for a Saturday afternoon.

Mary Anne Boszity Only a 5 minute walk from Wynyard station, Barangaroo has a mouthwatering line up of new restaurants and bars facing the famous Darling Harbour. From casual to fine dining - the plethora of choices will not disappoint. Finish up with sunset cocktails on the rooftop bars of Untied or Barangaroo House - or both!
