WHAT’S ON AT PREMIER

Premier Yearling Sale 1-3 March 2020 Oaklands, Melbourne

inglis.com.au

WELCOME It’s fantastic to be back in Melbourne for the 2020 Premier Yearling Sale. The Victorian capital is abuzz with excitement this time of year with the autumn racing carnival in full flight, the AFL season on our doorstep and of course, Victoria’s No.1 yearling sale almost upon us. The Premier Sale has proven a beacon of success over a long period of time. The likes of Black Caviar, Starspangledbanner, Jameka, Fawkner, Lucky Bubbles and many other champions have each had their time as Premier Poster Boys and Girls during the past decade. But it’s been in more recent years that the number of G1 stars to come through the sale has reached levels never before seen. Since 2018 alone there have been 14 individual Premier graduates win at the elite level – Santa Ana Lane, Beat The Clock, Kenedna, Nature Strip, Hey Doc, Scales Of Justice, Youngstar, Written By, Gytrash, Seabrook, Crown Prosecutor, Spright, Enzo’s Lad and Booker – many of them multiple times. Of those, eight have sold for $100,000 or less. They are a part of an overall golden run of Inglis superstars, which has seen 43 individual G1 winners since 2018 coming through Inglis sales – more than double our nearest competitor. A significant amount of these have come off Victorian farms and it’s this support from the local Victorian industry that has seen the Premier Sale especially remain so strong for so long. This year is no exception with a larger than ever number of Victorians offering their entire crop of yearlings through the Premier Sale, rather than spreading them around a range of different sales. The catalogue of 784 is arguably the strongest single Premier catalogue since 2008 when the likes of Black Caviar and Starspangledbanner were offered. With siblings to stars such as Mystic Journey, Extra Brut and Oohood to name but a few, it again shapes as a must-attend event.

Premier graduate Nature Strip returns to scale having won the 2019 G1 VRC Sprint

The renovated Oaklands auditorium

The Premier Session of the sale will run for the two full days of Sunday March 1 and Monday March 2 while the inaugural Showcase Session, with a particular focus on the value end of the market, will take place on Tuesday March 3. The sale will again be held in the spectacularly renovated Oaklands auditorium. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from all participants following last year’s auction – when the renovations were only just complete – was justification for our reinvesting back into the industry to create a theatre-like auditorium for our clients. Whether you’re looking to buy a yearling, talk to industry participants or simply observe how a yearling auction operates, everybody is welcome at Oaklands during Premier, free of charge. I look forward to seeing many of you from this Sunday to celebrate all things about the Victorian breeding industry. Regards Mark Webster Managing Director
