GINGER ORANGE SALMON We love this recipe because it just needs one bowl, a baking dish and a steamer, and is packed full of Omega-3s and Vitamins A, B6 & C to help ward off the winter sniffles. SERVES 4 Prep Time: 15 minutes Cooking Time: 20 minutes INGREDIENTS 4 pieces of salmon (with skin) 2 thumb sized pieces of ginger Ÿ coconut aminos 2 oranges, sliced 2 bunches of brocolini 2 handfuls of green beans or asparagus Knob of grass fed butter Salt and Pepper to taste METHOD 1. Slice the ginger into thin strips. Don’t worry about peeling it. 2. Pop the salmon, orange slices, ginger and coconut aminos in a bowl and massage the fillets gently so they are covered in the sauce. Leave to marinate for 10-15 minuts. In the meantime, pre heat the oven to 180 degrees. 3. In a baking dish, layer the orange slices in the bottom and palce your salmon and ginger on top, with the salmon skin side up. Pop in the oven for 20 minutes at 180 degrees celcius. 4. Steam the broccolini and beans or asparagus to your liking. Melt grass fed butter and mix with salt and pepper through the steamed greens then serve with salmon.
PALEO BONE BROTH Warm your soul with bone broth… INGREDIENTS • 1.15 kgs of best quality grass fed bones or enough to fill your slow cooker (beef, lamb or chicken) • 2 celery stalks • 2 carrots • One potato • 1 onion • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar • Any herbs you may have on hand, rosemary, thyme,parsley • Salt and pepper to taste
METHOD 1. Roughly chop all vegetables leaving the skins on. Use only the skin of the potato, but dontb waste the rest, pout it back in the fridge to be used in another delicious meal like a simple mash. 2. Place all the vegetables in slow cooker or stock pot, put bones on top then add enough water to cover. 3. Add in salt, pepper and herbs. 4. Leave on low for up to 24-48 hours, checking it after a few hours to scoop out any frothy bits from the top. After this just leave to be enjoyed the next day. 5. Strain all the liquid into another pot or glass vessel. Can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.
ALMOND MILK PORRIDGE Goldilocks had the right idea! Porridge really does soothe the soul when you wrap your fingers around the warm bowl and eat a big spoonful. Eating oats every day may also reduce your risk of heart attack and goji berries are PACKED full of antioxidants which makes them the perfect ingredients to start a day and help fight the winter flu. Now you will have no excuse to skip breakfast because this recipe is not only delicious – it only takes 5 minutes to make! Serves 2 INGREDIENTS • 2 cups almond milk • 1 cup rolled oats • 1 banana • Raw, unprocessed honey • Coconut flakes
• Goji Berries • Cinnamon METHOD 1. Put the almond milk and oats in a pot and cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes or until the oats have soaked up most of the milk. Keep stirring to avoid burning or sticking to the bottom. Leave it a little runny so it doesn’t become dry once off the heat. 2. Cut the banana into the slices. 3. Take the pot off the heat and put into bowls. 4. Lay the banana on the top with a shake of cinnamon. 5. Sprinkle on coconut flakes and goji berries and drizzle honey. 6. Enjoy!

Breakthrough therapy gives hope for new leukaemia treatment In a world-first clinical trial, resulting from an earlier breakthrough aided by Leukaemia Foundation supporters, Melbourne medical researchers have shown that people with an advanced form of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) can achieve complete remission with a novel tablet treatment.
Clinical trial results of the potent new anti-cancer drug Venetoclax released on 28 January this year, showed it was effective in killing cancer cells in people with advanced forms of CLL when conventional treatment options had been exhausted. CLL is one of the most common forms of leukaemia, with around 1000 people diagnosed with this form of blood cancer in Australia every year.
Seventy-nine per cent of those involved in the trial had promising responses to the breakthrough therapy – including twenty per cent who achieved complete remission.

This quiz night was another successful event and we were lucky enough to have former West Coast Eagles player Karl Langdon as our Quiz Master. The success and positive feedback from this year’s fundraising event would not have been possible without your contribution and the generosity from the people of Perth. The money raised from the quiz night goes to Cystic Fibrosis WA where it will be used for provision of services for those people with Cystic Fibrosis living in WA.
