THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR

1ST MAIN

Neal “Taffy” Taflinger

INDYSTAR.COM

THINGS TO DO EDITOR

Born and raised in Indy, Taffy has devoted most of his life to one form of art or another, and he wants to spend the rest of it telling stories about art and the people who make it. There’s a wild, woolly city happening out there, and he wants to spread the word.

Theater Scary Mary: A Poppins Parody

When: Various times Nov. 2-4, 9-11, 16-17. Where: The Q, 5515 E. Washington St. Tickets & info: Ticket prices TBA; www.qartistry.org, or (317) 677-5317. We don’t know much about Scary Mary yet, but Q Artistry earned its bonafides with “Cabaret Poe” and followed it up with a steady stream of funny, quirky productions. There’s no reason to expect that this show will deviate from Q Artistry’s charted course.

If last year’s event was any indication of where this event is headed, then Food Con III will be a must-attend for locals who care about the cultivation, preparation, and consumption of nourishing food. Expect food-inspired art, exhibits by food producers and prepared foods from local vendors.

This “Food with Roots” sculpture is by Michelle Walkey-Thornburg.

Talks & Readings Henry Rollins: Capitalism

Punk icon, B-movie actor and gadfly Henry Rollins is taking his spoken-word act on the road again. This time he’s visiting all 50 state capitals, wrapping things up in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 5, the eve of the general election. The former Black Flag and Rollins Band front man can be schticky, but his curiosity and inability to sit still provide a stream of funny and provocative insights.
