Welcome to Centre Region Parks & Recreation Welcome to the 2017 Winter/Spring Active Guide! Thank you for turning the page and delving into our great selection of programs and special events! If you plan to make some New Year’s Resolutions, we can help you! If it’s time to learn that favorite craft or you want to ease into a new fitness routine, we have something for you. Maybe your plans include riding your bike and investigating some of our great local parks? If so, pull out the new center-spread map and post it on your fridge! It contains the area’s bike paths and routes as well as locations of the region’s neighborhood, community, and regional parks! Or if your goal is to enjoy our fantastic outdoor pools next summer, take advantage of our winter discount and secure your 2017 Pool Pass. If ever you have program ideas or suggestions for an event or activity, do not hesitate to contact us! We’re always looking for new ideas and partnerships; send your ideas to crpr@crcog.net and we’ll follow-up with you for the next steps. Each participating municipality (5) appoints one volunteer representative to serve a 5-year term on the Centre Region Parks & Recreation Authority, plus one representative of the State College Area School District is appointed by State College Borough Council. In October 2011, the five participating municipalities re-authorized the future of the Authority for the period January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2016.

Winter Activities Ice Skating & Hockey at Blue Spring Park

Cabin F ever? Get ready to bundle up and head out to the Village Ice Rink and enj oy an activity for kids of all ages! If the weather cooperates, we hope to open in lateDecember! O nce open, the on-ground ice rink (45’ x 80’ ) is dependent upon the sub-freezing temperatures and the commitment of community volunteers to maintain the ice. “ Hockey-only” times are Mon. and Thurs., 3: 00-5: 30 PM. If there’ s snow, it’ s time for sledding! Slab Cabin Park has the best sledding slope around. Cross Country Skiing at Circleville Park The cross-country ski months are here again. Welcome to the 2016-17 ski season! This year head out to Circleville Park and Haugh Tract Preserve to take advantage of the groomed trails, thanks in part to Patton Township and the N ittany N ordic Cross Country Ski Club.

Youth Instructional Classes Bitty Ballet

Does your little one dance around the house and to all kinds of music? Think they might enj oy trying some dance lessons? If so, Bitty Ballet may be the perfect option for your wee one! Bitty Ballet is a six- week preschool ballet program for 2.5-5 year olds. Bitty Ballet is the best way to introduce young children to dance and creative movement. Instructors are dedicated to instilling a love of dance in toddlers and having fun at the same time. If you’ re not sure your little one is interested, bring them to a F REE trial class; for the Winter session, the trial class is on Tuesday, January 17 at 5: 30pm, and for the Spring session, the trial class is on Tuesday, March 14 at 5: 30pm. Organic Gardening Workshop

Join Drs. Gene Bazan and Tania Slawecki of N eo-Terra for a workshop on organic vegetable and fruit production with principles and tips useful to beginning and intermediate organic gardeners. It’ s also perfect for conventional gardeners who are thinking about converting to organic and want to learn how. The evening workshop includes a virtual tour, and in the late spring, Gene and Tania will host a tour for attendees at their home in L emont, where they grow 95% of their vegetables year-round and 80% of their fruit (home garden visit dates to be announced at workshop). A personal development program for youth full of “ F un, F riends and F itness.” Children will learn punches, kicks, blocks and ground movements all in a safe and supportive environment!
