What is Dispute Resolution?
The Importance of Dispute Resolution
Dispute Resolution can be defined as a broad spectrum of structured binding and non-binding processes, including mediation, conciliation and arbitration, but does not include litigation which are used to resolve disputes. The dispute resolution processes involve the assistance of a neutral third party and empowers parties to resolve potential or actual disputes in a way which best meets their needs and interests. Dispute resolution is an interdisciplinary field that attracts people from many professional backgrounds.
Disputes and conflict are an inevitable part of daily life and businesses. Increasingly, dispute resolution processes such as negotiation, mediation and conciliation, are being used to prevent and manage conflict more effectively than traditional methods of resolution such as litigation as they are proven to be more time and cost effective for the parties involved. As a result, ‘alternative dispute resolution’ or ADR as it is known has become integrated into the Irish civil justice system and the corporate environment.
The MA in Dispute Resolution was shortlisted for the 2011 Postgraduate Course of the Year Awards under the business category by Gradireland.
