It’s a Wednesday afternoon, and I am booked in to meet Jeff Brazier, celebrity TV presenter and much loved Essex boy, at Zoology in Loughton. Jeff is being styled by the Zoology team for Dream Makeover Essex’s reveal night.

Page 8

I wouldn’t get bored of complimentary pampering! Do you let the stylists do as they please or are you a prima donna? I know what I like and I am quite particular. I’ve developed my own hair style over the years and I am asked on many occasions how I get my hair to stay - especially on Twitter. (Laughs) I was even thinking about creating a YouTube video on how to achieve the Jeff Brazier end-result! It’s a work in progress. I get up, have a shower, put gel in my hair, leave it until the gel goes stiff, then I brush it out and leave it until I get to work. Then I brush it again, give it a bit of hair spray and only then is it ready to do as its told!

So you are getting ready for the Dream Makeover Essex reveal, have you any inside information about the £25,000 makeovers? Absolutely, I have followed their journey from their old-self to the reveal and what I do know is £25,000 stretches a very long way! Not only can you see the winner’s cosmetic changes, but I have also followed their physical growth. Many of the winners have been transformed by a new hairstyle here at Zoology, Loughton; laser vision treatment by AVC. The change in their skin tone is dramatic thanks to Mode and Frances Furlong. Their refined body shape has made such a difference to their over all confidence which is all down to Body Perfect, also training me! And their smile... Well, before there just wasn’t one but now, thanks to Smile by Ash all you can see is a perfect, toothy-white smile; you cant help but feel happy for the winners, they have achieved an end-result which was completely out of their reach.

You never age! Are you sure you’re not a closet beauty cream junkie? What’s your secret? (Laughs) Closet many things, but not closet creme junkie! Honestly, I don’t feel right if I have dry skin. I work hard, I’m a single father and it is important I look after myself. If you lead a stressful life, it is so important it doesn’t show in your skin. I am using the Image Skincare range at the moment which keeps my skin looking good.

It’s the 4th anniversary since Jade Goody died of cancer, on Mother’s Day; the mother to your sons. It must be a very poignant moment in the year for you as a family. Has it got any easier? No, it hasn’t got any easier and this year has especially been tough because of the huge gap between Mother's Day and the date Jade died. It is important for me to reach out to others who have suffered the pain we have endured as a family and share what has worked for us. Keep Memories Alive is an amazing charity and every year at this time, we gather together and write a message to our loved one, and release the message with a balloon. ‘Release’ is such a great word as this is what each child must feel when they let go of their message. What started out as something we all did with our family and close friends has become something much bigger. Last year a little girl bought a balloon for her Granddad, and it was at this point I knew it was important we opened this up to everyone, not just those who had lost a parent. Writing a personal massage in celebration of a life that has been lost, is such a positive action. It is important for children to express their grief in a positive way and it has worked for us as a family. I truly believe it is important to encourage kids to be open with their feelings and not to brush their emotions under the carpet. To talk their feelings and sentiments through. This year a little dickie-bird has told me you are moonlighting as a fashion designer? You are right. For Children In Need, I was asked to design a Onesy in my signature look for Debenhams. It was a bit of fun for a great cause! Not giving too much away, it will be all about layering. So make sure you go and buy one! I have also designed an Autumn/Winter shoe collection for infashiononline.com. What started out as a bit of fun, has accidentally grown into something much bigger. It has been an exciting venture and I’m hoping to do a lot more.

You are a renowned lover of Essex, what is your favourite eatery and where do you shop for clothes? The Chequers in Matching Green for definite. In the summer it is the most perfectly, idilic place. I would recommend everyone to experience The Chequers. I could spend hours watching the cricket on the green. I don’t even like cricket, but there is something magical about cricket at Matching Green. I buy most of my clothes from REISS, but there is not one in west Essex. There should be one in west Essex! (Jeff’s son Freddy pipes in) Tescos! Oi You! (Jeff tousles Freddy’s hair) Thank you Freddy! Probably River Island, REISS and Diversoonline.com, the owners are from Essex and have just recently opened a shop in Shoreditch.

If you could have a perfect day in Essex, where would it be and what would you do? That’s an easy answer! Hatfield Forest with my boys, a blanket and picnic in tow and then a relaxing night at home.

Are you currently looking for a Mrs Brazier? I am single although I have not put any pressure on my self in finding someone. When I meet that special-someone it will be because it was meant to be. I really do believe love works when you just naturally fit - me and her against the world! You know, in life, the simple things matter the most and to be happy is to be with someone whose company you enjoy and who you can love through the good and the bad.

Listening on your iPod? BJ The Chicago Kid. Currently reading? The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. Face cream? Image Skincare. Aftershave? Spice Bomb by Victor Rolfe. Brunette or blonde? Brunette typically but blondes or red heads can apply! Fav food? Rib-eye steak - medium. Colour? 32 Merc SL - bright red. Icon? Fashion, George Lam. As a kid: Kerry Dixon, Glen Hoddle, Gazza! Duke of Essex Polo Grand Prix 13, to be the finest polo event in the UK.

IT’S BACK, BIGGER, AND BETTER THAN YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE! Known around the world as the ‘Sport of Kings’, polo never fails to attract an array of celebrities and some of the most glamourous clientele. This July, the Duke of Essex Polo Grand Prix is set to platform polo on a completely different level. Co-founder Zoe Hopkins was invited by the third rightful owners to see just exactly how for 2013, Essex Polo will be better, bigger and bolder than it has ever been before! t is refreshing to see a renewed enthusiasm for our counties much coveted event. This year sees the Duke of Essex Polo enter a massive transition; the third rightful owners ‘The Kingg Ltd’ and ‘Grand Prix Events’ take to the helm bringing a wealth of experience in hospitality and outside event management, on such a grand scale. As The Duke of Essex Polo Grand Prix 13 is posed to take our 'Summer Social Calendar' by storm, the new owners ensure me that nothing will dampen their weekend event, and for 2013 they come fully prepared for our glorious great British summer. Improving the already successful event was Grand Prix Events Page 12

biggest agenda. Taking their experience from The Grand Prix and general hospitality, both companies looked objectively at The Duke of Essex’s previous years and assigned themselves a goal of making the Duke of Essex Polo Grand Prix 13 the finest polo event in the UK. After seven years the event emotionally said goodbye to Gaynes Park Estate, in Epping, and welcomes, in all its glory, The Duke of Essex Polos new home, Hyland’s Park Estate, in Chelmsford, Essex. Hyland’s Park (the home to the V Festival no less) not only has a purpose built polo arena, but also plays home to Hyland’s House, the beautiful Grade II listed building which will play a huge part in this years ‘Sport of Kings’.

For the first time ever, VIP guests will be able to drive up to the door, by gravel drive. The venue will feature an expanse of covered areas, indoor nightclubs, road access to and from the event and adequate floor and ground coverings – your Christian Louboutins will be safe, girls! Gone is the single date, too. The event is being held over a weekend. Saturday 13 July and Sunday 14 July are both dates you need to add to your social calendar! This will be a strictly an All Ticket Event. Grand Prix Events will ensure the Duke of Essex Polos social occasion delivers as an exciting experience, as the sport itself. Their aim is to present a credible event which will attract some of the world’s greatest polo players.

We’re looking at striking a genuine balance between a sporting event and social occasion which is one of the reasons for moving to Hyland’s House who offered to accommodate our polo arena, the use of the beautiful mansion itself and of course it does help the venue is set in a truly stunning setting.’

However, polo has never been renowned as being an affordable pastime. This year The Duke of Essex Polo Grand Prix will be opening the sport to the masses. The fantastic priced family tickets, alongside stunning VIP packages offer an extra ‘something special’ for a day to remember, for the right reasons.

Mathew McGaun, co-owner of Grand Prix Events.

Hyland’s House is part of the Hyland’s Park Estate which covers an impressive 574 acres of Essex countryside. Like many stately homes across the country, the main house stood empty for a number of years until the current owners restored the Grade II listed Villa to its former glory. The restoration of Hyland’s House was completed in 2005 and today stands proud as a beautiful example of Neo-Classical architecture. Hyland’s Park and the house itself is quite simply a beautiful setting for the Duke of Essex Polo Grand Prix, combining tranquil landscaping, formal gardens and wide open space for further adventure. The popularity of the Duke of Essex Polo, which is now in its 8th year, has already seen it firmly established as part of the British Social Season and the move to Hyland’s Park is expected to attract over 8,000 VIPs and members of the public. For 2013, the main sporting arena will be surrounded by a wealth of entertainment including several VIP marquees, headline music acts, indoor nightclubs, family fun activities and, food and drink which would befit a Royal guest or two.

The VIP packages are split into four types, Silver, Gold, Black and Dusk. Each ticket genre will give the VIP holder entrance to the exclusive VIP GRAND PRIX ENCLOSURE from where a whole new world will be unveiled. Beautiful marquees will offer a five star dining experience with a five course tasting menu. The marquees will be furnished and opulently decorated, with waiting staff to attend your every need. And new for 2013, your table is yours for the whole evening! New luxury terrace areas are available away from your table, designed to have a chic beach style feel, furnished with sun loungers, sofas and white parasols offering guests the ultimate experience to soak up the suns rays and the days events. Polo will be viewed from private decked areas throughout the day. The GRAND PRIX BAR will serve cocktails, champagne, Pimms, cold beers and fine wines, with traditional fresh strawberries and cream. And as an added extra, Grand Prix Events have laid on an all-day and night complimentary barbecue which is included in the ticket price; expect to see a banquet of Asian and traditional foods, complemented by Thai fresh salads and a giant hog roast. Page 13

As the polo match ends for the day, and the horses nestle with their bales of hay; the VIP party starts to warm up. The VIP GRAND PRIX ENCLOSURE will pivot into action with top club DJs, International Artists and performances from current acts and legends alike; the perfect way to round off a true, top class sporting-come-social extravaganza. VIP guests will enjoy the best of both worlds unrivaled views of the polo and within close proximity to the main stage.

The Grand Prix Village Pass can be bought for the day or as a weekend pass. Prices start at £20 for an adult, £15 for a child ticket (with under 12’s accessing for free). A weekend pass is £30 for an adult and £20 for a child over 12. Both tickets allow access to the Grand Prix Polo Village which will play host to the hugely popular show jumping arena, Shetland pony ‘dinky derby’, Formula 1 simulators, shopping village, arts and crafts, and access to all the rides and games on offer. The Gourmet Food Village will be partnered by a Champagne and Oyster Garden, both situated near the The Grand Arena Bar.

For those wishing to go along for just the evening, the Dusk ticket is available from 5.00pm and strictly for over 21’s only – so ID will be needed. Grand Prix Events have given the Family Enclosure as much care and attention as their VIP guests.

With Hyland’s Park positioned neatly in the very heart of Essex, getting to the event couldn’t be easier. Handy pointers include: Junction 28 on the M25, then follow the A12 to Chelmsford and Junction 7 on the M11, then follow the A414. For those extra special VIP guests, there is an on-site helicopter landing pad, prices upon application. The Duke of Essex Grand Prix 13 is unquestionably ‘Set for the Sport of Kings’ this summer and undoubtedly will be one the hottest events of the summer.

Opening polo to the masses is an important part of our event this year. Polo is an exciting event and at The Duke of Essex Polo Grand Prix 13, our aim is to deliver an exciting, family friendly weekend, which will be talked about for many months after.’ Event Organiser, Tracy Zetter. Page 14

Health & Fitness

he whole of the UK is alive with beating hearts and sweaty palms, as the final countdown to the 2013 London Marathon begins. On the 21st April the capital will throb to the sound of thumping feet and cheering crowds, as the world descends for the second time in under twelve months to witness one of the greatest sporting events on the planet. Runners from the UK, Europe, and every other corner of the globe are busy making their last minute preparations, and running their last few practice miles. Some will be running for glory, others for charity, or just for a laugh, but whatever the reason, everybody wants to finish. Are you among the once excited and determined individuals who have allowed their training to slow down, or even lapse? This is a dangerous time for some, but all may not be lost; there are still some important considerations and last minute preparations that can be made to turn this around. Here are the top five tips that can be done in the last few weeks, days and even on the day, to help make your marathon a great achievement. Page 24

1. Last-Minute Training If training has lapsed then there still may be time to save it; however, there are some basic levels of fitness required at this stage. With four weeks to go, if a runner cannot run for 16 miles without stopping, then the London Marathon is too long a race, and it would be dangerous to take part. If this is within their skills, then these final weeks should involve many different strength and fitness building activities, and not just running: MONDAY - Every Monday 30 minute, hard swim or interval running. TUESDAY - Rest and Recovery. Hill running every first and third Tuesday. WEDNESDAY - Strength building exercises, such as weight or circuit training. THURSDAY - Rest and Recovery. Steady-speed running every second Thursday for 8-10 miles. FRIDAY - Distance Running: fourth last week – 20 miles; third last week – 22 miles; second last week – 6 miles; last week – rest. SATURDAY - Rest and Recovery. At least 24 hours rest after the long run.

SUNDAY - Gentle swim, jog or Yoga/Pilates class to strengthen core. Over-training to force readiness should be avoided. This can put the body in extreme danger of temporary or long-term injury, either during training or at the actual race. On the week of the race, mostly rest or light exercise should be done, stretching or yoga classes and visualisation.

2. Rest & Recovery Rest and recovery does not mean sitting around watching TV: a massage to soothe aching and recovering muscles, an ice-bath, or a nice, relaxing walk can help. Cryotherapy is a useful technique for athletes. This is using low temperatures to increase recovery rate and cellular survival and was used by Mo Farah whilst training in the US before the London Olympics. During a rare rest period, race visualisation can be amazing. Top sportsmen and women report that this is one of the most beneficial exercises, especially in the final weeks and moments of preparation. This prepares the body and mind for the race, and many feel their muscles twitching in response to their imagined exertions. This can also lead to decreased nervousness on the day, having already run the race a thousand times. This is one of the secrets to giving world-class performances in sports, presentations and any public performance.

3. Stretching Stretching should be performed after each exercise which gets rid of lactic acid build up and can help in muscle recovery. Stretching does not prevent injury, but if done incorrectly, can cause it, so it's important to know how to stretch properly. There are four types of stretching: ballistic, static, dynamic, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation. It's vital to know the benefits of, and how to do each.

the route but preferred energy bars and drinks should be packed the night before. Nutrition intake should not be changed on the day, as a change (even in brand), can lead to disaster. The most vital considerations are to stay hydrated and avoid glycogen depletion. It is recommended to have a light but nutritious breakfast. Muesli or porridge and a couple of bananas, or toast and honey should do the trick. Running a marathon is, for many people, the most satisfying, ambitious and rewarding events of their life and if they train hard, they can relax and enjoy it. Everybody hits 'the wall' at some point, but if the time has been put in pounding the road and in the gym, and a healthy and nutritious eating plan has been followed success, and the enormous euphoria that accompanies it, can be enjoyed.

Please note that it is not as important for long distance runners to stretch before training. There is modern evidence to suggest it can actually do some harm.

4. Equipment There is no right or wrong when it comes to marathon gear. Many participants will run as the rear end of a cow! Normal people though, should try to have a couple of long sleeve and a couple of short sleeve shirts on hand, to account for the weather. 'Moisture-wicking' fabric shirts do a pretty good job of extracting sweat. As far as running shoes are concerned, participants should wear shoes that they’ve used before and are comfortable running long distances in. Another pair can be bought up to four weeks before the event to break them in.

5. Race Day Preparation Gear should be packed the night before. It's important not to have to worry about packing shoes or train tickets or anything else on the day. The route should be planned and travel reports checked for any delays. It's a good idea to arrive in plenty of time. Water will be provided along

Welcome to iN’s society column, ‘Girl About Town’. As our wonderful Magazine is a monthly publication, this being April I am looking foward to putting the ‘spring’ back into my step - after a VERY long winter!

love the spring, it seems so hopeful and exciting, full of promise and prosperity. The new buds with fresh bloom stir up a motivational me, with an increasing agenda to do original and inventive things.

My enthused mood is helped by warmer and sunnier days. The months of grey skys and -25 degree chill factor, and thoughts of losing both ears to frostbite are finally over. I felt like Bear Grills braving the Antarctic; it was such a struggle to get home, I considered getting sponsored! Thankfully, now it’s bearable and my array of fleecy Onsies can be stored away until next year. Actually, can I retract my statement and start again? Thankfully, now it’s bearable and my array of fleecy Onsies can be thrown away, because what started out (in my mind) as joke, is now a worryingly common wardrobe piece. We’ve normalised the fact that it’s OK for grown men to wear a baby grow (sometimes in public) and it’s not. Get rid.

Anyway, back to the new motivated me. So with the ‘spring’ in my step (see what I did there) I blitzed my flat, threw out my clutter, hung a light and organised my wardrobe. With a great sense of pride, I decided to offer my enhanced organisational skills to my friend, Kim. Armed with an Allan key and a smile, I helped build Kims exciting, flat-packed wardrobe. We laughed at how easy it was and how straight forward the instructions were. We giggled and mocked others who find DIY difficult. We even praised ourselves for using Kim’s dad’s electric drill. After many James Bond impressions and a tremendous feeling of smugness, we stood and admired our creation. It suddenly dawned on both of us, we’d built the whole thing upside down. After three hours in the making, it literally was on its head! So unless Kim was planning on sticking her bedroom furniture to the ceiling (which I did suggest) it was time to start again. Four hours later, job done. Maybe I should stick to my day job!

kay, I own up. There are times I have been spotted by the window-cleaner prancing around the kitchen singing into a carrot. My hairbrush knows all the lyrics to my favourite songs and the dog gives me a look (maybe of sympathy, who knows) when I launch into full song. In my other life, I was a pop-star you know. I am not quite sure what I did wrong this time around, but my other life only knows me too well to know these vocal cords I have acquired were given to me for one reason and one reason only - as a gift! Fast forward to one sunny morning, I pop into a local coffee shop and as I am waiting for my friend I pick up iN Mag Essex and flick through the pages. And there it is! The missing part of my life, the lost piece of the puzzle - Popchoir. ‘Every Tuesday in Chigwell like minded individuals gather to sing their hearts out. We're not talking about Bach or Mozart, we're talking about Abba, Snow Patrol, Queen, Katy Perry, Robbie Williams, Stevie Wonder, Leona Lewis, Whitney Houston, Take That.’ At the exact moment I read these words I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The class is full of various types: The closet singer, the karaoke singer, a few slightly apprehensive beginners, quite a few worn out mums, the odd overstressed commuter and the next Beyonce, me! But, we need more of people like me. I can promise you will come away with a big smile and an amazing feel-good factor and make some new friends in the process.

Just Married Katie & Brooke Escudier Katie and Brooke Escudier, from Epping Essex, share their ‘Royal Britannia’ themed wedding held at Gaynes Park, Epping. How did your story begin? Katie: Although Brooke went to St John’s School in Epping and I went to Davenent Foundation School in Loughton, we didn’t meet until we worked together.

We loved your theme, tell us a little about your ideas and where the inspiration originated? Katie: Following the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games we came up with the idea of using an old London double decker bus, which pretty much cemented our idea. Friends and family have labelled 2012 as the year of Kate and Brooke.

How long did it take you to prepare for the wedding? Katie: We were engaged for eighteen months but left the planning to the last ten. It gave us plenty of time to research suppliers, enjoy a Gaynes Park Taster Evening (wow!) build a scrap book of ideas, send save the date and wedding invitations and shop for a wedding dress.

What was your most memorable moment? Brooke: An overwhelming feeling on the day which I'll never forget. Katie: My husband’s speech, there wasn't a dry eye in the room. Our first dance but just as equally the last dance. The photo booth was also brilliant, everyone really enjoyed it and going through the pictures the following morning was hilarious.

Gaynes Park provided an amazing back drop, what made it so special? Katie: From day one the staff at Gaynes Park made us feel like our wedding was as important to them as it was to us. They took away any stress, offered advice were needed, and provided a recommended supplier list. The location of the barn also offers a beautiful back drop for the wedding photos.

If you could have changed anything, what would it have been? Brooke: I would have invited more evening guests. Katie: I loved every minute of it and I'd make it an annual event!

Do you have any advice for any pending bride and grooms? Katie: Make the day everything you dreamed of and not what you think others expect. Pick your day and evening guests early on so you are clear on numbers and create an expected budgetary spreadsheet so you don't get too carried away with costings. Take a moment on the day to let everything sink in because the day is over before you know it. Venue: gaynespark.co.uk. Bride’s Dress: miasposa.co.uk Suits: jackbunneys.co.uk. Named the V40, Volvo’s latest hatchback has been built to take on premium competition from the likes of BMW, VW, Audi and Mercedes. Things get off to a great start with the car’s styling. It looks every inch a premium machine and hides its Ford Focus underpinnings extremely well. Curves combine with piercing headlights and boomerang-shaped rear lights to give the hatchback a modern look that is still recognisably a Volvo. Meanwhile, the 18” Midir alloy wheels and twin exhaust pipes of our £31,070 D4 SE model elevate it from the lower ranks of the range. The interior continues the premium feel, while managing to avoid the pretentiousness of some of the German offerings. Inside, there’s the floating central console that has become a Volvo feature. Metal in finish and cold to the touch, it frees up storage space while also providing controls for the heating and ventilation, driver’s aids and navigation. The only criticism we could make was that the phone dial buttons seem surplus to requirements, when all numbers are now stored on a mobile phone. The cabin has plenty of storage with a large glovebox and door bins, plus plenty of cup holders. The seats are extremely comfortable and it is easy to get the perfect position with electrical adjustment on the driver’s side (a £600 option on this car), while the steering wheel is reach and rake adjustable. There’s space for adults in the back, although the glass roof in our car took some headroom, and the seats are located more centrally so that rear passengers have a better view of the road ahead. Featuring numerous packs, which took it over and above its £25,000 list price, the car we drove could perform a series of useful tricks.

Page 42

Volvo’s V40 was built to take on the best from Germany, Motoring Correspondent Russell Campbell sees if it can.

Park Assist (an £850 option) is one of the cleverest. It uses the car’s onboard systems to scan potential spaces before selecting one that can accommodate a Volvo V40 and steering the car into it, while the driver controls the clutch and throttle. Cruising was also a doddle thanks to the adaptive cruise control. It allows the driver to set a maximum top speed, which the car maintains, slowing down and speeding up with the flow of traffic. Other stress-reducing features included extremely bright auto-dipping and bending main-beam headlights, keyless entry and automatic wipers. The new V40 is also extremely safe and in the spec we tested it featured all the airbags you could want (including one for pedestrians), City Safe, which brakes the car in the event of a low-speed impact, and Pedestrian Detection that’ll do the same if it detects a person. The car we sampled was the D4 five-cylinder diesel. It has 177hp and 325Ib ft of torque, which makes for effortless overtaking and cruising. Its delivery can feel a bit old school, however. Get caught out of the powerband and the D4 can dither while it waits for the turbo to spool up,

when it does though, the Swedish wagon’s acceleration is peppy to say the least. The balance of a small diesel powerband is excellent miles per gallon, with the D4 managing 55mpg on the combined cycle, while pumping out only 114g/km, which means road tax of £30 annually. It’s a good driving experience, too. The gearbox may not be the last word in precision, but it’s slick. Corners are also handled with aplomb. The steering isn’t very feelsome, but is reassuringly weighty and the Volvo turns into corners with minimal roll. The ride is nicely damped, but not so firm that it doesn’t stop the majority of bumps from making their way into the cabin. The new V40 is a credible alternative to the German competition, while not offering as polished a driving experience as some, it counters with comfort and refinement in an attractive package. It’s one we would be more than happy to spend more time in.

Porsche’s

GT3

lauNChed aT GeNeva While it was hypercars from McLaren and Porsche that grabbed many of the headlines, for car fans the Geneva launch of Porsche’s hardcore 911 - the 991 GT3 - was just as important. That’s because the GT3 is seen as one of the purist driving machines on the market, and one people aren’t keen on Porsche messing with. That didn’t stop them though. This new GT3 features numerous, and not universally welcomed, firsts. Top of the list is the dual-clutch (PDK) only gearbox. Until now, the GT3 was one of the few machines to hold onto its manual box. Porsche, understandably, has been careful to keep the traditionalists happy by giving the gearbox shift times, fewer than 100 milliseconds, offering a ‘dip clutch’ function and shorter gear ratios than the standard car’s PDK. The GT3’s engine has also changed. In place of the Mezger flat-six, which had close ties to motor sport and was another favourite of the fans, is a new 3.8-litre unit that is 25kg lighter than the engine it replaces, revs higher (up to 9000rpm) and, with 468bhp on tap, is more powerful. All that gives a top speed of 196mph and a 0-62mph time of 3.5 seconds. Much of the old GT3’s charm was down to its (relative) simplicity. Not so in this car which offers rear-wheel steering and dynamic engine mounts. The former giving more agility and speed in the corners, while the latter reins in the engine’s momentum with similar effects. The net result is a car that loses some of the character of the machine that it supersedes, but replaces it with raw speed. Priced at £100,540, the GT3 can be ordered from your local Porsche dealer now. The first cars will be delivered to the UK in November.

COUNTRYSIDE PROPERTIES

With strong sales and good visitor levels, the housing market has been buoyant in 2013 at Countryside Properties’ Kings Park development in Harold Wood and the introduction of Government’s major new Help to Buy scheme is expected to add further to the development’s popularity. Help to Buy is available to all, not just first time buyers of new homes and with just a five per cent deposit being required, and the availability of some of the best mortgage rates, it is predicted to have a major impact on the new homes market. Under ‘Help to Buy’ the Government will lend a maximum of 20 per cent of the value of the property which can be repaid at any time or on the sale of the home, so the buyer will only need to secure a mortgage of up to 75 per cent. The equity loan is free for the first five years. Home buyers will own 100 per cent of their home for 80 per cent of the price. The Government’s price limit is £600,000. The range of homes at Kings Park includes one and two bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses and villas. With prices starting at only £200,000, it means that with ‘Help to Buy’ a deposit of only £10,000 is needed to get on the housing ladder or move to a larger home. All properties come with luxury, contemporary kitchens and bathrooms. Kings Park is located adjacent to Harold Wood station and lies within the Oyster card zone, offering commuters a 35 minute

journey time to London Liverpool Street. With Crossrail too coming in 2018 to Harold Wood it is superbly connected for public transport. Access to the road network is very good as well, with the A12, A127 and M25 all just five minutes away. TAURUS (20TH APRIL - 20TH MAY)

Now is the time to try something new in your life, motivation is at its peak for you. A big change is heading your way which sees you develop emotionally and intellectually. Lucky Day: Thursday.

GEMINI (21ST MAY - 20TH JUNE) I have been reading the column ‘Family Issues’, and I have a question for you. I was previously a single mum with three children and have now remarried. My kids do not see their biological father. My new partner wants to adopt my children, which the kids are happy about. What kind of position does this place them in if our marriage does not survive? Alison Hyatt, Loughton Your husband adopting your children from a previous relationship means he then acquires all the rights and responsibilities as if they were his biological children. If your marriage broke down, your husband would remain responsible for the children financially, for example he would be liable to pay maintenance for them. Depending on the financial circumstances of you both, he would also need to contribute to their ‘capital needs’ such as for housing. As the children’s mother, you have ‘parental responsibility’ for the children, giving you the right to make decisions about what is best for them. Upon adopting the children, your husband will also have parental responsibility, meaning the two of you would then be jointly responsible for deciding any major issues in their lives such as their education, medical issues, choice of religion, etc. Your husband’s parental responsibility for the children would continue after separation or divorce. He would also have the right to spend time with the children after the separation, or possibly have the children living with him full-time or part of the time if that was considered to be in the children’s best interests. The living arrangements for the children and the time they spent with your husband would be determined by what is best for their welfare.
