ROSE QUARTZ

& SERENITY

In this issue of Impressions Bride, we celebrate Pantone’s 2016 Color of the Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity. For PANTONE 13-1520 Rose Quartz the first time, the blending of shades 15-3919 Serenity are chosen as the PANTONE Color of the Year. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless, airy like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times. Together, they demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace. ®

TODAY’S TRENDS

in wedding dresses T

he best way a bride can display her sense of style is through her wedding dress. Fashion statement is important and, when it is shown blatantly during a wedding, it is even more powerful. Nowadays the trends keep changing when it comes to wedding dresses. Designers are more adventurous and brides have also demanded that the styles be stretched a little to ensure that they will look fabulous — unlike the olden days when brides would only wear plain and meringue styles for wedding gowns. With a unique and exquisite dress, the bride can stand out from other brides. Modern wedding dresses are varied to suit the different bridal personalities, so they can be highly differentiated on their special day.

Color Color is a very important aspect for wedding dresses. Initially, white was the standard wedding dress color but times have changed. You can now opt for different colors for your wedding occasion. Colors considered to be unique and adventurous are: pink, ivory, brown, deep blue and ivory. Many modern color choices are inspired by vintage palettes. Victorian and red tones are also a good choice and have been around for a very long time. You may want to go for a Victorian color if your wedding theme is royalty. Another trendy color Article continues on page 6 4

choice is using two tones which have feminine detailing. The bottom line take away is that you don’t have to go for the plain white wedding dress any longer.

Convertible and combo dresses Many people are now opting for a second wedding dress. If you will be needing to wear your dress at other occasions, then you should consider a convertible one. It is important to have such a dress, because when you wear it, it will always remind you of your big day. With this you need to get a very light wedding dress which won’t restrict your movement. You may also want a detachable one

which combines two dresses but still looks elegant. You should opt for detachable veil, trails, jackets, sleeves and layers. The recent trends make it extremely easy to rock your perfect wedding outfit without having to worry about trips to the changing room.

Cutout backs Keyholes and lace cutouts have also become a preference lately. These wedding outfits have borrowed the

cutout backs from vintage dresses Sheer panels are a common feature of these dresses which reveal the back of the bride. Many designers consider these wedding dresses sophisticated and sexy. They’re a great way to incorporate a little extra in your gown.

Affordable tea dresses If your wedding is rapidly approaching and you don’t really have a lot to spend on the dress, there are many dresses that are inexpensive and will still work beautifully on your big day. Tea dresses are options available at reasonable prices. And, by saving on your dress, you will have more money to spend on other aspects of your wedding. Brides have been known to use tea dresses to show off their opulence on their special day. Just make sure to budget well on your wedding spending, so that you will have enough money for all the other aspects of your wedding.  Article by Vikram kumar

UNIQUE DRINKS

for unique settings A non-traditional ceremony location is a bit less formal than a traditional church ceremony, however pomp and circumstance surrounds the occasion with a more personal touch. Guests tend to arrive closer to the ceremony time and mingle a bit prior to being seated. The celebration truly begins as guests enter the property and are greeted with refreshment.

edding ceremonies can be as unique to a bride and groom as their reception. More and more brides and grooms are choosing non-traditional ceremony locations, such as: a sunflower field, a lakefront lawn, a private shore on the river, a public beach, a terrace on a mountaintop, and so on. It is very exciting for guests to be welcomed to a unique location to celebrate the union of friends and family. 8

While I do not recommend offering a full bar, I do recommend two or three beverage choices including a non-alcoholic offering. The options are endless and should compliment the season and weather. Lemonade with mint and raspberries, virgin Arnold Palmers, cucumber melon infused sparkling water, or chai blossoms are great non-alcoholic options. Spirituous options might include a Lillet sparkler in the spring, a southside in the summer, ciderhouse whiskey in the fall, or the classic kir royale in the winter. Undoubtedly, the ceremony will be a favorite of guests and remembered for years to come.

PREPARATION

Combine tea bags and 1 cup of boiling water in a small bowl; cover and let sit 8–10 minutes. Add sugar and stir to dissolve. Discard tea bags and let cool. Stir chai syrup and lime juice in a pitcher to combine. Divide among 4 rocks glasses filled with ice and add 2–3 oz. club soda to each. Garnish with anise pods and lemon twists.

n between the guest list, the flowers and the perfect threetier cake, it can be hard to find time to shop for your wedding rings. However, it is important to remember that most of the wedding details are fleeting and gone after a few hours of enjoyment, while your rings are enjoyed forever. So, whether you are having a smaller gathering or a more traditional affair, this important to-do

on your event checklist should not be overlooked, especially since your rings mark your commitment to one another and will last a lifetime. Jewelry and style expert Michael O’Connor has a few tips that are sure to help you find matrimonial bliss when it comes to ring selection:

Create a budget. There are many details to consider when planning a wedding that can

quickly drain your budget. It is important to set aside money for lifelong symbols like your wedding rings. Not sure how much to budget? Consider that in 2015, couples spent over $6,000 on wedding rings and bands, according to www.weddingstats.org. And since the age-old rule for purchasing an engagement ring is to spend two months salary, plan to spend one month’s salary for the two wedding bands. Check out the Budget Calcu-

Shop together. It is a good idea to shop for rings together. Your rings, which don’t have to match, should reflect your personal styles and tastes.

Plan ahead. Don’t wait until the last minute to go shopping for your wedding bands, they’re simply too important. Plan to start shopping for your bands six months prior to your “I do’s.” Not only do you need time to research and shop, but you also need to allot time for custom orders, sizing and engraving.

Invest in quality. Because you want your ring to last a lifetime, it is important to put thought into the quality of metal you choose. Platinum 950 is the most durable precious metal and will last a lifetime. It’s 30 times more rare than gold, and for wedding bands set with diamonds, its natural whiteness will ensure the diamonds sparkle and stay secure. TRASH THE DRESS... are you kidding me? T rash the dress,” also known as “Rock the frock,” or “Drown the gown,” is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. This unexpected trend has emerged in recent years and it happens after your wedding day. It is generally shot in the style of fashion and glamor photography. It’s a new trend in wedding photo sessions done after the wedding day. It’s not about

12

preservation. It’s about doing something remarkable and having a photo of it to show to your friends.

Usually brides opt to have pictures taken on a beach, but other locations include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings. This has to be one of the most misunderstood trends to come out of America within wedding photography in recent times. The idea of destroying a wedding

dress has been used in Hollywood symbolically since at least October 1998 when Meg Cummings of the show “Sunset Beach” ran into the ocean in her wedding dress after her wedding was badly interrupted.

Some say “Trash the Dress” is your way of showing your commitment to your husband by confirming you’re not wearing the dress again. Trash the Dress or TTD as it’s more

PICTUREPERFECT often referred to was actually started by John Michael Cooper, a photographer from Las Vegas, whose website shows some prime examples or really radical “Trash the Dress” shoots — including one where the dress was set on fire — don’t show this one to your mothers gals! You’ve spent a small fortune on your wedding dress. You’ve painstakingly kept it crease and dirt free until the big day, and you may even have had it professionally dry cleaned afterward. But now what are you going to do with it? Some brides say “Trash it”! The alternative is to suffocate it in plastic and throw it in a closet.

the dress and apron baking cupcakes or something yummy, because the wedding day has already passed. Perhaps a photo of paint — a story of sticking together through life’s ups & downs, sometimes called messes. The best part is that it gives brides the freedom to choose new places to take photographs without worrying what will happen to the dress. For the bride who loves drama or wants some quirky in memories, you may consider a trashing session. Brides want these fun, unscripted moments captured but also want a photographer that can get creative.

That’s why couples are donning wedding finery and descending into caves, plunging into breakers, walking through abandoned amusement parks, wandering through cornfields, wading forest streams and other wild pursuits in an increasingly popular ritual and edgy extension of wedding photojournalism. Some brides say it changes the wedding dynamic from stuffy and traditional to fun and lighthearted, and provides a reason for a new tradition.  article by larry james and courtesy of www.celebrateintimateweddings.com

So why trash the dress? To get remarkable images that are forever ingrained in your mind, and sometimes, your dress may get dirty. It’s a risk a bride has to be willing to take. The results can be breathtaking! You can ride on a Ferris wheel, run across the desert or even pose lying on the beach without worrying about scrapes, sand, water damage, hot tub, or even a little dirt, a photo wearing

PERFECTPLANNING

YOUR BIG DAY — tips for stress free planning W eddings are unforgettable events that require a lot of planning and anticipation. They can certainly unsettle even the most stable. Exceptional preparation can reduce this strain. Follow these tips to help to ensure a pos-itive start to planning.

Youneedtotrytodevelopaweddingthat is totally intimate by including aspects which embrace you, your husband to be, and the love affair between you two. You should opt for

a wedding theme which reflects your bond. If you want to look amazing but have limited resources, look into renting jewelry. This gives you that dazzling appearance you’re wanting for a small amount, which permits you to stay within your budget.

Be sure to include decorative items in your wedding. Have complementing decorations for your floral arrangement similar to your wedding gown or your centerpieces. Your wedding ceremony is exclusive and significant, so you should put in the effort for even the tiniest details. When you are selecting your hair sylist for your wedding, you should always take a look at examples of their previous work. Is the technique pleasing to you? They should work to develop the distinct style of look you select. Your only concern should be strutting down the aisle with truly gorgeous locks. Plan your transportation wisely. If someone wants a vehicle to or from their hotel for the party, you should make ready limousines or taxis. This is also optimal for guests who drink. Tall floral centerpieces might be the 14

planning easier, as venues are more available in the middle of the day.

Instead of traditional cake options, try cupcakes or mini tarts set in tiers over a cake tower. Arrangements like these present versatility, usefulness and are money savers. Guests can get one or two cupcakes on their way out, placed inside a decorated box.

Prior to meeting with a wedding planner, do research. Set up a book with fabric patterns, compositions you like, and accessories to present to your planner. You can provide magazine images, lyrics or photos to help you communicate your desires to your wedding planner.

Consider having your wedding midday. Liquor consumption tends to be less during a day reception, and that can help to decrease expenditures. A wedding during midday can also cut food expenditures and may make

Regarding potted floras, you can bring them home and let guests bring them home as gifts. Before your first dance, practice prior wearing a long dress or skirt. You may be comfortable in them, but your partner might need practice to become at ease and keep from trampling the hem of your wedding dress. Stressors are inevitable during planning. Instead of letting them tear you apart, let them bring you together. This will help prepare you for marriage, as well. Weddings are wonderful but require preparedness. As head coaches, they talked about games and plays as they rode the bus to and from games. They had a mutual respect for each other and shared a common interest‌the love of the game. Lindsay had married her high school sweetheart, Spencer Hampton, in April of 2012. Spencer had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma and passed away in June of that year. Yet, even after Spencer was gone, Lindsay never stopped dreaming of having a family and children of her own. It was also a dream that Spencer did not want her to give up on. In 2013, Lindsay and Rodney ran into one another at an ECU football game. It was the first time they had seen one another since their last bus ride. The two instantly hit it off. Afterwards, they got together for dinner talked about everything. Lindsay found his kind, nonjudgmental demeanor made it easy for her to open up and talk with him about her late husband, Spencer. Instead of pity, Rodney responded with empathy — he wanted to learn more and understood how essential it was that she talk about it. Rodney acknowledged that widowhood was a part of Lindsay and understood its importance in affecting the person she was. Their evening ended platonically, but it reminded her that she still had the capacity to connect with a man. Lindsay said that in a small, but significant way, something shifted in her that night that felt good and restorative. It was the start to their future together.
