Information on LawNet o

LawNet is an online library of Malaysian laws that contains the authoritative text of the Laws of Malaysia.

LawNet also consists of E-Gazette which is the pdf of the actual printed copy of the Malaysian Federal and State Gazettes. The gazettes are available online as soon as it is gazetted by Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Berhad (PNMB).

The database requires usernames and passwords to use either within or out of campus. Contact the Law Information Desk at level 1 of the Library for access purposes


Access the Library Research Gateway (http://lib.iium.edu.my)


Click Online Databases


All faculty members and students who have registered as a member of IIUM Library may request for books and photocopies of materials from other libraries on interlibrary loan. However, this service is not extended to External Members. Â

Choose LawNet


Click on Members or Login to access the Login Page


Enter LawNet’s Username and Password to access the database within or outside of campus.


Under Law Library, select the section needed, e.g. the Acts of Parliament (in HTML format)


Click on the result given and it will lead you to the html format of the case.


Click PDF icon to view the printed version.

Can be printed and saved.


ii. Search Using Case Name

Enter the party’s name at the Search Term; at Search In, tick on Case Name.


Results found are all the exact cases on the party from different courts (if available). Click on the specific case needed.


iii. Search using Keywords/Terms

Enter the terms needed, Search In the whole case by clicking on Full Text and if the words are a phrase, click Exact Phrase at Proximity.


Results displayed. Choose the needed case. If there are too many results, you can Filter according to jurisdictions or Search Within Results to focus your search.


NOTES TO USERS : Provided in this guide are the basics of looking for cases. Looking for articles is actually quite similar. The only difference is articles do not come with a pdf version. Always remember to LOGOUT once you are not using the database to give chance to other users to use the same username and password.
