Parking Parking on the Hull campus is free after 18:00. Free parking can be found on Salmon Grove and Cottingham Road (where there is a limit of 2 hours). A pay and display car park is situated in F2 on the campus map.
Travel The campus is 10 minutes by taxi from Hull Interchange Station. Bus Service 105 (from stand 20) stops at the University’s main entrance.
Cancellation policy Tickets can be refunded up to 24 hours before a performance.
House rules Admission may be restricted after the published start time. For performances in the Donald Roy Theatre, latecomers are not admitted.

Drama productions All performances are performed by students of the Department of Drama and Music unless otherwise stated.
Introduction We are delighted to present the latest edition of the University of Hull Arts Programme. Now in its fourth season, it is established as a one-stop guide to the University’s rich variety of music performances and workshops, literature events and drama productions. Come and join us at events such as the ‘Tenth Grace Black Piano Recital’ performed by Sarah Beth Briggs in late September, an exciting play ‘Vacuum’ written by Deborah McAndrew in October or in December the ‘Fresh Ink Festive Open Mic’ which will showcase Hull’s creative sparks. There really is something for everybody taking place on our beautiful, vibrant campus which is open and easily accessible.

City Showcase Monday 10 October 2011 Middleton Hall, Hull Campus, 10:00 – 1 :00 Finding The Future Workshop City Showcase is a not-for-profit year-round festival of new music, responsible for breaking some of the best names into the industry since 2003. They provide a year-round platform for new artists, identifying and developing them through a unique combination of showcasing opportunities, industry networking sessions and masterclasses in the UK and beyond – all free from commercial sector constraints. Some of the artists who got their break at City Showcase gigs include Amy Winehouse, Gabriella Cilmi, Keane, Newton Faulkner, Ray LaMontagne, Razorlight, Scouting for Girls and Seth Lakeman.
Classic Buskers Friday 1 October 2011 Middleton Hall, Hull Campus, 1 :1 MiniClassics by the Classic Buskers, Michael Copley and Ian Moore “Technical virtuosity, combined with musical seriousness, humour and high entertainment are a perfect recipe – the audience were delighted.” Ian Ritchie, City of London Festival Director This new programme of mixed repertoire, and the title of the Classic Buskers’ latest CD, MiniClassics, will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s magnificent tribute to the land that gave us pasta – his Caprice Italien. Before that, the audience is treated to an enormous variety of music on highly original instruments including works by Bach and overtures and arias by Offenbach, Mozart and Rossini. There will also be edited highlights from Bizet’s Carmen, plus some beautiful Balkan folk music and an arrangement of Ravel’s Bolero, which uses sonorities unknown even to that master of orchestration. Instruments range from the world’s smallest ocarina to a strangely huge cowhorn as well as the normal selection of flutes, recorders, panpipes, buzzy Renaissance things - and a small but perfect accordion.

Stokowski’s Transcription Friday 21 October 2011 Middleton Hall, Hull Campus 16:00 – 16:20 Stokowski’s Transcriptions by Dr Lee Tsang An introduction to Stokowski’s art of transcription and the different versions of Night on Bare Mountain. Dr Tsang is Director of Performance at the University of Hull. His research interests span timbre, music analysis, performance and film. He is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and the founding director and principal conductor of the professional chamber ensemble Hull Sinfonietta, which was awarded the University of Hull Vice Chancellor’s Prize 2005. 16:30 Mussorgsky-Stokowski Night on Bare Mountain Rehearsal Orchestra Lee Tsang (conductor) Stokowski, a master orchestrator with a pioneering approach to audience engagement, is perhaps most famous for his role as conductor and arranger in Disney’s Fantasia. At this special event you have a rare chance to hear live his thrilling large orchestral arrangement of a Russian work that has captured the imagination of generations. Hull Campus, 19: This distinguished Polish Quartet returns on the first anniversary of Henryk Górecki’s death with his First Quartet, written in 1988. Their CD of all three Górecki quartets has recently been released to great acclaim. Wed 1 to Sat 19 November 2011 Donald Roy Theatre, the Gulbenkian Centre, Hull Campus Our Little Secret combines expressive acting, powerful images, physical movement, vivid colour and music, to theatrically explore the view of the great modern anthropologist Claude Levi Strauss that the taboo of incest was the driving force of humanity. The project has been devised with the intention to create a piece of theatre that speaks to the subconscious mind and to our senses. A performance that demands exaggerated gestures to release unsuspected passions, including repressed and forbidden sexual desires. Experience a piece of thought-provoking theatre that will attack the senses with bizarre sights and sounds as it reaches toward our subconscious impulses and fears. Inspired by the work of Antonin Artaud and Pina Bausch. Warning there could be scenes of a graphic nature and may not be suitable for under 15s. Written by Jake Smith

Music by Renaissance masters including Isaac, Josquin, Janequin, Arcadelt, Morales, Palestrina in solo lute versions by their contemporaries Spinacino, de Rippe, Galilei and others. These remarkable composers tackled the most ambitious vocal repertoire, artfully adapting it to the lute in intricate, beautifully decorated arrangements. It is music on a private scale, enjoyed in an intimate setting in the great houses of Renaissance Europe.

University of Hull Art Collection Middleton Hall, Cottingham Road, Hull Campus Open Monday to Friday 10:00 – 16:00 Closed on public holidays Free entrance The University’s Art Collection is a small but outstanding collection specialising in paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints produced in Britain 1890–1940. The Camden Town Group and Bloomsbury artists are particularly well represented. Also shown are the two Thompson collections of Chinese ceramics.
artcafé The artcafé is open in the basement of Middleton Hall, serving drinks and light refreshments from 9:30 to 16:00 and hot food between 12:00 and 14:00 on weekdays.
