To what extent does terrorism expand on the Internet? What are the new faces of online terrorism? In his lecture, Prof. Dr. Weimann will reveal that the World Wide Web turns out to be a valuable instrument for modern terrorist organizations. Consequently, the use of the Internet by Al-Qaeda and other cyber-savvy terrorists continues to expand and evolve. Apart from the spread of propaganda, the terrorists use the internet for a wide range of purposes as for example recruitment, online instruction and training. In his lecture, Prof. Dr. Weimann will discuss in how far these developments go along with new challenges for societies and governments worldwide and particularly in Germany. Furthermore, he will debate on whether these developments might require drastic shifts in strategic thinking towards national security and the preservation from cyber-terrorism. The lecture will be followed by an open forum with the guest speaker and the president of the Saxon police. * Admission is free. Registration is not required.
