SPEAKERS Chris Allen, Global Group Head of Regulatory Policy, Barclays Chris Allen is Managing Director and Global Group Head of Regulatory Policy. His responsibilities include heading regulatory policy, on a global basis, for bank structural reform, regulatory capital, resolution and financial market reform across Investment Banking, the Corporate Bank, Wealth Management, Retail and Business Banking and Barclaycard. Chris is also the Global Group Head of Legal for Bank Structural Reform, leading the legal teams delivering, among others, the ring-fencing of UK retail banking and US IHC requirements. Chris was previously Head of Legal for Markets in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Russia and Central Asia and the bank’s most senior Counsel for Markets globally. He is Chairman of the British Bankers Association Wholesale Policy Committee and also Chairman of the Bank of England’s FX Joint Standing Committee Legal Group. He is a member of The European Securities Market Authority’s Secondary Markets Standing Committee Consultative Working Group. In the US, he is also a member of the CFTC’s Global Markets Advisory Committee. Chris has testified in Congress on the Dodd Frank Act (Title VII and Volcker), appeared on numerous SEC, CFTC and Congressional roundtables on financial markets and banking reform. Chris is a graduate of Oxford University and a Barrister of the Middle Temple. Cyrus Ardalan, Chairman, OakNorth Bank Cyrus Ardalan is Chairman of Oaknorth Bank. He is also a Senior Advisor and Chairman of the Financial Institutions Advisory Services Board at Alvarez and Marsal and Senior Advisor at The Rock Creek Group. Cyrus, until July 2015, was Vice Chairman and Head of UK and EU Public Policy & Government Relations at Barclays, where he was responsible for engagement with key government stakeholders and development of regulatory and public policy positioning. Prior to this Cyrus was a Vice Chairman at Barclays Capital and held various senior management positions in Paribas' investment bank. Cyrus is currently on the board of the International Financing Facility for Immunisation (IFFIm) and has previously held a number of board positons including Chairman of the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA) and board member for the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). He has published a number of journal articles and has extensive experience in public speaking. Brian Caplen, Editor, The Banker Brian Caplen is Editor of The Banker, one of the world’s leading financial journals, and part of the Financial Times Group. He is Executive Editor of fDi magazine which deals with foreign direct investment. He regularly appears on the BBC, CNN, CNBC and Al Jazeera to comment on international banking, economic and financial issues. He frequently lectures on financial topics. He also worked as a business editor and journalist in Hong Kong and the Middle East for 10 years. He has travelled extensively and done numerous high level interviews with prime ministers, finance ministers, central bank governors and senior executives. He has a first class honours degree in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia.

Dr Barbara Casu Lukac, Director, Centre for Banking Research, Cass Business School Dr Barbara Casu Lukac is the Director of the Centre for Banking Research at Cass Business School. Barbara joined the Faculty of Finance at Cass in August 2007. Previously, she was a Senior Lecturer in Financial Studies with the University of Wales, Bangor. She has also worked at the University of Reading (UK); Aston University (UK) and the Catholic University of Milan (Italy). Her research interests are in is empirical banking, although several of Barbara's research projects are crossdisciplinary and include aspects of financial regulation, structured finance, accounting and corporate governance. She is co-author of the book Introduction to Banking (FT Pearson Education).

Steve Davies, Partner & EMEA Fintech Leader, PwC Steve has been with PwC for 20 years working across financial services and across different countries. During the 1990s Steve worked in our UK and German Banking and Insurance practices with a focus on consumer credit. In 1999 Steve moved to our US firm where he became a Partner in 2003 and led the US firm's national Consumer Finance practice focusing on consumer credit, mortgage lending and retail banking. In 2009 Steve returned to the UK firm where he became Retail & Commercial Banking leader, building a practice within the UK's Consulting business. In 2015 Steve became our UK & EMEA Fintech Leader as well as our UK and EMEA FS Customer and Digital leader. Steve has worked with some of our leading clients in the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Brazil, UK, Germany, Spain, CEE, South Africa, France, Ireland, as well as elsewhere. Steve has authored many publications and spoke at numerous conferences and events around the world. Regularly interviewed in the press, radio and TV news, Steve has one of the highest shares of media-voice in the UK of any Big Four Partner. Steve has also worked with a variety of start-up institutions including working with challenger banks, Fintechs and incubators. Steve has built up and EMEA Fintech practice that includes a focus on supporting and incubating startups, Blockchain, Robo-advice and fostering access and connectivity between small start-ups and larger traditional clients. Adam Farkas, Executive Director, European Banking Authority Adam Farkas is the first Executive Director of the European Banking Authority, a position he has held since 2011. Previously, he was the Chairman of the Hungarian Financial Supervisory Authority in 2009-2010. Prior to joining the regulatory and supervisory community, he held senior positions in the banking sector including three years as the Co-CEO of Intesa Group’s subsidiary in Budapest, and another three years at the helm of Allianz Bank, setting up a retail banking operation for the market leading insurance company in Hungary. Before that he spent four years as a central banker as a Managing Director and Member of the Board of the National Bank of Hungary with responsibility for reserve management and market operations. He started his career as an assistant professor in Finance at Corvinus University, Budapest and was a visiting fellow at London Business School and also at Erasmus University. He holds a doctorate in Finance from Corvinus University, and an M.Sc. in Computer Based Simulation and Modelling from Sunderland University (UK). Dr Usama Fayyad, Chief Data Officer, Barclays Usama Fayyad, Ph.D. is Group Chief Data Officer at Barclays in London. His responsibilities include building and delivering the data infrastructure for BI, data warehousing, BigData analytics & insights technologies across the Barclays Group globally as well as data governance, and enterprise Data Architecture. He also took on an additional role at Barclays as CIO of Risk, Finance, and Treasury Technology in Autumn 2014. He is also co-lead with Group CISO Troels Oerting of the innovative Data Fusion Project for Cybersecurity with multiple applications in Compliance, FinCrime, and Risk. He is Chairman of Oasis500 in Jordan following his appointment in 2010 by King Abdullah II of Jordan to be the founding Executive Chairman. From 2011-2013 he served as Chairman & CTO of BlueKangaroo, a mobile search engine based in Burlingame, CA to help consumers benefit from the vast and substantial, yet unwieldy, and confusing offers ecosystem. In 2008 he founded Open Insights: data strategy/technology firm to help enterprises develop data strategy & BigData solutions to effectively grow revenues – worked with large telco and Tech companies, private equity funds, and on-line/mobile companies. From 2004-2008, he was Yahoo!'s chief data officer & Executive VP of Yahoo!'s global BigData systems/policies & data scientist group. He is founder of Yahoo! Research Labs: the premier scientific research organization to develop the new sciences of the Internet. Prior to that he has founded a number of companies and has held various senior leadership roles. Fayyad's Ph.D. in engineering is from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (1991). He has published over 100 technical articles in AI, Machine Learning, Data Mining and Data Science, Databases and Algortihms, and holds over 30 patents. He is an active angel investor in U.S., EU and Middle East specializing in early-stage tech companies.

Sir Roger Gifford, UK Country Head of UK, SEB. Sir Roger Gifford is the UK Country Head of SEB, based in the City of London. Roger was born and educated in Scotland and at Sedbergh in Yorkshire, before going on to study chemistry at Trinity College, Oxford. He began his career in the financial sector at S.G. Warburg & Co before joining Enskilda Securities, then a subsidiary of SEB, in 1982. Prior to his appointment as Head of SEB London in 2000, Roger headed the bank's operations for 6 years in Japan. He has worked in the primary debt and equity capital markets most of his career. He is Vice Chairman and a past Chairman of the Association of Foreign Banks in London, President of the Bank Workers Charity and the Chairman of the City of London 2016 Green Finance Initiative. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Multrees Investor Services, a fastgrowing financial intermediary in the wealth management industry. Roger's interests in music and the arts are reflected in his voluntary work as a trustee of several charitable foundations as well as a patron for the financial literacy charity MyBnk. He is chairman of the English Chamber Orchestra, Tenebrae Choir and the City Music Foundation and is a trustee of St Pauls Cathedral Foundation and the Barbican Centre Trust. He is a strong supporter of the City's contribution to the economic, cultural and social fabric of the UK. He was Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2013 and was knighted in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to international business, culture and the City. Rudi Guraziu, Executive Chairman, IBDE Rudi Guraziu is chairman and chief executive of the International Business and Diplomatic Exchange (IBDE), leading the IBDE’s overall strategy development, fundraising and relationship with key stakeholders. He is supported by the IBDE Advisory Board made up of policymakers, ambassadors, businesspeople and experts from relevant fields. In addition to his role at IBDE, Rudi is a Visiting Professor at the London Academy of Diplomacy, University of Stirling where he is Module Leader of International Business Diplomacy, and International Political Economy and Trade. Rudi spent the 1990s as a principal of a large pharmaceutical business. Before founding IBDE, he initiated the establishment of the Centre for Business and Parliamentary Dialogue. For much of that time he has worked with different parliaments particularly in the relationship between legislative bodies and economic operators. For many years, Rudi has been actively engaged with senior policy-makers, business leaders and diplomats as an expert on international affairs, including as an external expert at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office high-level "policy challenge" sessions. His expertise covers international affairs with a particular focus on strategic policy, financial services, energy security, political risk, public policy, international business and trade as well as economic, corporate & commercial diplomacy. His research interests are in exploring the impact of international events and turning crises into opportunities. Rudi is member of the International Steering Board at the International Festival for Business, and has played a key role to the launch of IFB2014 both in his personal capacity as member of the Board and through IBDE having hosted a number of high-level international events, exploring international banking and finance, and global trade & investment promotion. IFB2016 will be held in Liverpool from 13 June to 1 July 2016 and is expected to host over 30.000 business delegates from around the globe. Dr Colin Lawrence, Partner, MD & Global Head of Strategy and Research, Parker Fitzgerald Dr Colin Lawrence oversees the firms Strategy and Research practice and is the Chairman of Parker Fitzgerald's Global Regulatory Network. A recognised expert in all areas of financial risk management, Colin has more than 30 years experience in financial services and strategy consulting. From 2008 to 2013 Colin was the Director of the Risk Specialist Division at the Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA), and senior adviser to the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England on a number of systemic issues. Additionally, Colin has held senior positions in academia (Columbia University, Cass Business School, City University of London) and was formerly the Vice-Chairman of the International Professional Risk Association, PRMIA. Colin holds an BA and MA in Economics from The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago.

Professor Marianne Lewis, Dean, Cass Business School Marianne W. Lewis is Dean of Cass Business School and Professor of Management. She joined Cass after a decade as associate dean at the University of Cincinnati, having earned her PhD from the University of Kentucky, and her MBA from Indiana University. Her research explores leadership and management issues involving organizational paradoxes. Change and complexity accentuate tensions – competing demands, contradictory pressures and challenging double-binds. Her work develops paradox theory to explore related leadership opportunities and challenges. Studies span contexts, applying this lens in such fields as product development, organizational change, governance, and technology implementation. Her paper, “Exploring paradox: Toward a more comprehensive guide” received the Academy of Management Review Best Paper Award in 2000. Her work also appears in other leading journals, such as the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Operations Management, and Human Relations. Professor Lewis was a UK Fulbright in 2014, and is currently completing two books addressing leadership and organizational paradox. Rhydian Lewis, Chief Executive Officer, RateSetter Rhydian Lewis is CEO of RateSetter, which he co-founded in 2010 having witnessed the continued failure of the financial system to act in the interests of customers. He saw an opportunity to empower investors to get a better return while providing a fairer deal for borrowers - delivering greater value in a simple way. Rhydian has pioneered many ‘firsts’ that have subsequently become the norm in marketplace lending, such as the Provision Fund concept. RateSetter’s Provision Fund has ensured that after lending more than £1bn over five years, no individual RateSetter investor has lost a penny. RateSetter’s diverse community of investors includes individuals, businesses, investment funds and charities. Borrowers include individuals, businesses and property developers. Prior to founding RateSetter, Rhydian spent six years at investment management firm Lazard, and before that he worked at Betfair, the world’s largest internet betting exchange. Steve Pateman, Chief Executive Officer, Shawbrook Bank Steve joined Shawbrook as CEO in January 2016 from Santander UK, where he was Executive Director and Head of UK Banking, with responsibility for building its SME franchise, running bank’s Corporate, Commercial, Business and Retail Banking operations as well as Wealth Management. Prior to joining Santander in 2008, Steve spent eight years at RBS, where he was CEO of Business banking, Retail Markets and Managing Director of Commercial Banking and Corporate Banking, Corporate Markets. Rex Rexhmati, Commercial Director, IBDE Rex is the Commercial Director of IBDE. Before this, he was an Adviser to the Executive Chairman. He has held several roles in the NHS as a senior management consultant and has also experience as an operations management consultant for start-ups. He holds a Masters in Economics and Bachelor’s degree in Economics & Management, both from Royal Holloway, University of London where he also was awarded by the Faculty of History and Social Science “The Faculty Prize for Teaching Excellence”. H.E. Simon Smits, Ambassador, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands H.E. Simon Smits is Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland since September 2015. Mr Smits studied English language, literature and international law at the VU University in Amsterdam. In 1983, he started his work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since then, he has served as Head of the Bureau of the Secretary General, Head of the Economic Department at the Netherlands Embassy in South-Africa, Head Nature and Environment at the Permanent Mission to the EU in Brussels, Senior Advisor Government Relations to Shell International, acting Director-General for European Cooperation and Director-General for Foreign Economic Relations/Vice Minister for Foreign Trade.

John Trundle, Chief Executive Officer, Euroclear UK & Ireland John Trundle is Chief Executive Officer of Euroclear UK & Ireland (EUI), the Central Securities Depository. EUI operates the CREST system which is a reliable, low risk and efficient securities settlement system for the UK and Ireland. EUI also offers other services notably for collateral management and transactions in the funds industry. John was previously Chief Risk Officer of the Euroclear group and an executive director of Euroclear Bank. He began his career with the Bank of England first as an economist, later as private secretary to the Governor, and then as head of the Market Infrastructure Division (with responsibility for the oversight of payment systems) and Business Continuity Division. He was the UK member of the Basel Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems (CPSS), where he chaired the group which produced the Core Principles for Systemically Important Payment Systems in 2001. John holds an MBA from the London Business School (UK) and an economics degree from Cambridge University. He is Deputy Chairman of the FCA Markets Practitioner Panel, the editorial board of the Journal of Financial Market Infrastructures, the SWIFT Institute Advisory Committee and the World Bank’s G25 Panel of Experts on financial market infrastructure. He is also chairman of the City-based charity, Blind in Business. Ruth Wandhöfer, Global Head of Regulatory & Market Strategy, Citi Ruth Wandhöfer is a regulatory expert in the field of banking and one of the foremost authorities on transaction banking regulatory matters. Ruth's key responsibilities include driving regulatory and industry dialogue and developing product and market strategy in line with the evolving regulatory and innovation landscape. Ruth chairs a number of influential industry bodies such as the Global Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs Committee of BAFT, the European Banking Federation Payments Regulatory Expert Group and the European Payments Council (EPC) Payment Security Group. She is also a board member of the EPC and the EBA Association, a member of the European Commission Payment Systems Market Expert Group (PSMEG), a member of BAFT’s Global Innovation Council and a member of the UK Payment Systems Regulator Payments Strategy Forum. In her spare time she mentors FinTech start-ups in London and the US, while pursuing a PhD on blockchain and payments. Ruth was named as one of 2010s 'Rising Stars' by Financial News; named in Management Today's 2011 ‘35 Women under 35’ list of women to watch (Sunday Times), and one of the 100 Most Influential People in Finance 2012 as named by Treasury Risk Magazine. In 2015 she was the recipient of the ‘Women in Banking and Finance Award for Achievement’. She speaks five languages (EN, DE, F, ES, IT) and has completed studies in various countries, including an MA Financial Economics (UK), an MA International Politics (FR) and an LLM in International Economic Law (UK). She published two books: “EU Payments Integration – the tale of SEPA, PSD and other Milestones along the Road” (2010and “Transaction Banking and the Impact of Regulatory Change: Basel III and other challenges for the global economy” (2014), both Palgrave MacMillan. She occasionally lectures at Queen Mary London School of Law.
