SPEAKERS Sir Winfried Bischoff, Chairman, Financial Reporting Council Sir Win Bischoff is Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council in the United Kingdom and Chairman of J.P. Morgan Securities plc. He is a Director of S&P Global Inc, and is a member of the International Advisory Board of Akbank TAS, Turkey. He was previously Chairman of Lloyds Banking Group plc (2009-2014). Sir Win has substantial experience of leading complex international committees and boards. His background spans a range of sectors, including banking and capital markets, finance and government regulation and public policy. He was CEO and then Chairman of Schroders plc (1984-2000), Chairman of Citigroup Europe (2000-2009) and interim CEO and then Chairman of Citigroup Inc (2007-2009). Since 1983 he has served on the boards of 10 major public companies (5 in the UK, 3 in the US, 2 in Europe). Sir Win was awarded a Knighthood in the New Year Honours List in 2000 for services to the banking industry, and an Honorary Doctorate in Science by City University, London in the same year. In 2016 he was awarded a Non-Executive Director Lifetime Achievement Award. Sir Win is a member of the IBDE Advisory Board.

Ben Brabyn, Head, Level39 Ben Brabyn is the Head of Level39. Ben amplifies Canary Wharf’s status as a global technology hub at the heart of the UK’s fintech and smart-cities innovation. He has significant experience of online payments, cyber and social e-commerce. At UKTI, Brabyn led the Government team connecting UK startups with global sources of investment. He brings a deep understanding of national policy combined with practical experience of entrepreneurship gained through founding two successful digital businesses and mentoring via Microsoft Ventures. Prior to this, he worked as an investment banker at JP Morgan and formerly as an officer in the Royal Marines Commandos.

Edward Budd, Chief Digital Officer, Global Transaction Banking, Deutsche Bank As Chief Digital Officer for Deutsche Bank’s Global Transaction Bank (GTB) Edward leads the strategy and planning for digital business models. This encompasses running a digital product management discipline that engages the market and executes a portfolio of projects including those on disruptive technologies such as distributed ledger technology, Fintech and beyond. Over almost two decades Edward has performed a broad range of leadership and transformation roles both in Deutsche Bank’s Investment Bank (1998-2010) and GTB (2011-Present) including “Head of eCommerce, Distribution Product Development/Autobahn, CIB” and “Head of Product Strategy & COO for Product Management, GTB”. In 2015 he was selected as one of the ‘Rising Stars’ in Brummel’s third annual Ones to Watch/Rising Stars awards, acknowledging outstanding talent in London’s financial-services sector and related fields under 40.

Francesca Carlesi, Global Head of Regulatory Affairs, Deutsche Bank (2013-2017) Francesca Carlesi is a senior executive with more than 15 years of experience in banking and financial markets, across various domains, but with a specific focus across her career on regulatory developments and strategic trends affecting the banking industry and the financial sector. She started her career in McKinsey, with focus on the financial services sector advising some of the largest European banks on strategy development, regulatory change and risk management; subsequently she moved into the banking industry covering a variety of senior roles in some of the largest European banks. In her most recent role she was Managing Director at Deutsche Bank in London, responsible for the Regulatory Affairs Department at Group level. Francesca holds a PhD in Banking and Finance from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, an MBA (Hons) from Columbia University and a Master in Public Policy and Leadership from Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She has been nominated in 2014 a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and today sits on the advisory Board of the WEF Global leaders’ Group in Italy.

Professor Barbara Casu, Director, Centre for Banking Research, Cass Business School Barbara Casu is the Director of the Centre for Banking Research at Cass Business School, where she is Professor of Banking and Finance. Her main research interest is empirical banking, although several of Barbara’s research project are cross-disciplinary and include aspects of financial regulation, structured finance, accounting and corporate governance. Barbara has published widely and has recently co-edited the Palgrave Handbook of European Banking.

Sir Roger Gifford, Chairman of Advisory Board, IBDE Sir Roger Gifford is a senior banker at SEB, based in the City of London. Sir Roger was born in Scotland and educated at Sedbergh in Yorkshire, before going on to study chemistry at Trinity College, Oxford. He began his career in the financial sector at S.G. Warburg & Co before joining Enskilda Securities, then a subsidiary of SEB, in 1982. Prior to his appointment as Head of SEB London (2000-2016), Sir Roger headed the bank's operations for 6 years in Japan. He has worked in the primary debt and equity capital markets most of his career. Sir Roger is Vice Chairman and a past Chairman of the Association of Foreign Banks in London, President of the Bank Workers Charity and the Chairman of the City of London 2016 Green Finance Initiative. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Multrees Investor Services, a fast-growing financial intermediary in the wealth management industry. Sir Roger's interests in music and the arts are reflected in his voluntary work as a trustee of several charitable foundations as well as a patron for the financial literacy charity MyBnk. He is chairman of the English Chamber Orchestra, Tenebrae Choir and the City Music Foundation and is a trustee of St Pauls Cathedral Foundation and the Barbican Centre Trust. He is a strong supporter of the City's contribution to the economic, cultural and social fabric of the UK. Sir Roger was Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2013 and was knighted in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to international business, culture and the City. Rudi Guraziu, Executive Chairman, IBDE Rudi Guraziu is chairman and chief executive of the International Business and Diplomatic Exchange (IBDE), leading the IBDE’s overall strategy development, fundraising and relationship with key stakeholders. He is supported by the IBDE Board and Advisory Board made up of policymakers, ambassadors, businesspeople and experts from relevant fields. In addition to his role at IBDE, Rudi is a Visiting Professor at University of Stirling where he is Module Leader of International Business Diplomacy, and International Political Economy and Trade. Rudi spent the 1990s as a principal of a large pharmaceutical business. Before founding IBDE, he initiated the establishment of the Centre for Business and Parliamentary Dialogue. For much of that time he has worked with different parliaments particularly in the relationship between legislative bodies and economic operators. For many years, Rudi has been actively engaged with senior policy-makers, business leaders and diplomats as an expert on international affairs, including as an external expert at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office high-level "policy challenge" sessions. His expertise covers international affairs with a particular focus on strategic policy, financial services, energy security, political risk, public policy, international business and trade as well as economic, corporate & commercial diplomacy. His research interests are in exploring the impact of international events and turning crises into opportunities. Mark Hoban, Chairman, Flood Re Mark Hoban chairs the International Regulatory Strategy Group (the IRSG), which is a cross-sectoral financial services body co-sponsored by the City of London Corporation and TheCityUK. The IRSG is currently drawing up recommendations for the post-Brexit regulatory landscape. Mark chairs Flood Re and is on the board of the London Stock Exchange plc. Mark Hoban is a senior adviser to PwC and is a member of their Advisory Board as well as a Senior Adviser to IHSMarkit Limited. He is a Visiting Professor at St Mary’s University. Between 2001 and 2015, he was the Member of Parliament for Fareham. He was a minister in the Treasury between 2010 and 2012 and at the Department for Work and Pensions between 2012 and 2013.

Alan Houmann, Chairman of Policy, IBDE; Head of EMEA Government Affairs, Citi Alan is the Managing Director and Head of Citi’s Government Affairs for Europe, Middle East and Africa. He is a member of Citi’s EMEA Operating Committee (OpCo) and is based in London. Alan participates actively in the public policy arena, having served on the Board of TheCityUK. He chairs TheCityUK’s EU Reform and UK Referendum Group, and is a member of the executive board of its International Regulatory Strategy Group (IRSG). Alan also serves on the British Bankers Association’s External Affairs Committee, and chairs its EU policy group. He joined Citi in 2007, from the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS, which has since been re-established as the EBA, the European Banking Authority). Prior to serving on CEBS, he worked on international banking policy and supervisory cooperation at the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA). He has also served in the European Commission, in the directorate for economic and financial affairs, and in the team leading the introduction of the euro. Alan has been a member of the secretariat of the EU’s Economic and Financial Committee (EFC, the committee preparing finance ministry and central bank discussions). He spent a year with the European Banking Federation (EBF), on secondment from HM Treasury (the UK ministry of finance), where his started his career as an economist. Alan holds master’s degrees in international studies and philosophy, from the University of St. Andrews, and in economics from the University of London. Alan is a Non-Executive Director at IBDE and chairs the Policy Committee.

Christian Hunt, EMEA Head of Compliance & Operational Risk Control, UBS Christian is Global Head of Compliance & Operational Risk Control (C&ORC), Asset Management, and Head C&ORC EMEA at UBS. From 2011 to 2014, Christian was Chief Operating Officer and prior to that Head of Department Supervision of Custody & Investment Banks, at the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA). Between 2008 - 2011 he was Vasari Global Limited Principal in Imerman Family Office. From 1999 -2008, Christian worked at the Deutsche Bank as Chief of Staff to Chairman, Director seconded to UK Panel on Takeover & Mergers and Vice President, UK Investment Banking.

Huw Jones, European & Global Financial Regulation Correspondent, Reuters Huw is based in London and covers UK, European and global financial regulatory issues for Reuters. He also covers global rulemaking bodies such as the G20, Financial Stability Board, IOSCO, IASB and the Basel Committee. He has covered EU regulation in Brussels, the emergence pan-European stock markets, and has also been a Wall Street reporter in New York.

Jeff Lynn, Chief Executive Officer, Seedrs Having originally trained as a lawyer in the US and at Oxford University, Jeff Lynn moved from Sullivan & Cromwell’s New York office to its London operation in 2005. Jeff studied for an MBA at the Said Business School in Oxford. He and Seedrs co-founder Carlos Silva came up with the idea of establishing an equity crowdfunding business while at Oxford, believing that there was both unmet demand for investment in small companies and start-ups as well as an untapped supply of funds. Jeff’s goal for Seedrs is to build a sustainable business that over time produces outstanding returns to investors. Seedrs has funded more than 470 deals to date and has had over £200 million invested on the platform. Jeff is passionate about establishing equity crowdfunding as a movement towards self-directed investment and believes that the sector will be a £1 billion-plus industry in the UK alone within a short timeframe.

Christian May, Editor-in-Chief, City A.M. Christian May is Editor-in-Chief of City A.M., London's daily business newspaper with a readership in excess of 399,000 professionals. Prior to this appointment he was Head of Communications and Campaigns at the Institute of Directors, the UK’s largest organisation for business leaders. He was responsible for the IoD’s public profile, campaigns and media activity, and took a leading role in shaping policy on areas including EU reform, immigration, infrastructure, innovation and tax reform. As spokesperson for the IoD, Christian appeared regularly across the broadcast media and in the national press, commenting on business and economic issues. Christian holds a degree in Politics from the University of Exeter and a Master’s degree in Journalism from London’s City University. Prior to his move into journalism was included in PR Week’s 2015 list of the 100 most influential PR professionals. He is a Freeman of the City of London, a Fellow of the British American Project and an advisory board member of the Institute of Economic Affairs. Christian is a member of the IBDE Advisory Board.

Rex Rexhmati, Commercial Director, IBDE Rex is the Commercial Director of IBDE. Before this, he was an Adviser to the Executive Chairman. He has held several roles in the NHS as a senior management consultant and has also experience as an operations management consultant for start-ups. He holds a Masters in Economics and Bachelor’s degree in Economics & Management, both from Royal Holloway, University of London where he also was awarded by the Faculty of History and Social Science “The Faculty Prize for Teaching Excellence”.

Barnabas Reynolds, Partner & Global Co-Head of Financial Institutions, Shearman & Sterling LLP Barney Reynolds is head of the global Financial Institutions Advisory & Financial Regulatory Group at Shearman & Sterling. He advises the full range of market participants on their businesses in the London and European markets. His practice focuses on financial regulation and legal risk management, including in the context of cross-border legal, regulatory and insolvency regimes. Barney has been actively involved in helping to shape, analyse and comment upon the global regulatory reforms that arose out of the financial crisis such as shadow banking, derivatives regulation, Basel III, recovery & resolution and corporate governance. Most recently, Barney has been at the forefront of discussions of how Brexit will affect businesses in the UK and globally. Barney has also advised on many recent bank restructurings in Portugal, Greece and Italy (ongoing) as well as various financial institution acquisitions, disposals and capital-raisings. He is recognised as a leading UK and EU financial regulatory lawyer by legal directories Chambers, Legal 500, IFLR1000 and Super Lawyers. In addition, he is named as a Law360 MVP and recognised in The Lawyer magazine’s annual “Hot 100" list of leading London-based lawyers.

Julian Sawyer, Chief Operating Officer, Starling Bank As Chief Operating Officer at Starling Bank, Julian oversees business operations, including payment systems, card operations, customer contact, human resources and supplier relationships. Julian worked as a management consultant at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and EY, specialising in large-scale transformation in the cards and payments industry. He set up his own financial services consultancy, Bluerock, which he ran for thirteen years before selling it in 2012.

Alex Skailes, Director, Centre for Charity Effectiveness, Cass Business School Alex is a Director in the Cass Centre for Charity Effectiveness and leads their consulting and professional development business. This Cass Centre provides a unique centre of excellence in Europe with a mission to increase the effectiveness and achievement of non-profit, voluntary and community organisations. Alex has long term experience of leadership, particularly in delivering solutions to the private and non-profit sectors. Alex believes passionately in the power of cross sector working and has combined her earlier career with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deutsche Bank, with a period of post graduate academic study. She now consults and lectures, focusing specifically on the non-profit sector. Alex has a particular interest in charity collaborations and mergers and their financial sustainability. She currently serves on the finance and audit committees of Community Action Suffolk and The Seckford Foundation. Alex is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the RSA and the Royal Geographical Society.

John Trundle, Chief Executive Officer, Euroclear UK & Ireland John Trundle is Chief Executive Officer of Euroclear UK & Ireland (EUI), the Central Securities Depository. EUI operates the CREST system which is a reliable, low risk and efficient securities settlement system for the UK and Ireland. EUI also offers other services notably for collateral management and transactions in the funds industry. John was previously Chief Risk Officer of the Euroclear group and an executive director of Euroclear Bank. He began his career with the Bank of England first as an economist, later as private secretary to the Governor, and then as head of the Market Infrastructure Division (with responsibility for the oversight of payment systems) and Business Continuity Division. He was the UK member of the Basel Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems (CPSS), where he chaired the group which produced the Core Principles for Systemically Important Payment Systems in 2001. John holds an MBA from the London Business School (UK) and an economics degree from Cambridge University. He is Deputy Chairman of the FCA Markets Practitioner Panel; a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Financial Market Infrastructures, the SWIFT Institute Advisory Committee, the World Bank’s G25 Panel of Experts on financial market infrastructure and chairman of the City-based charity, Blind in Business. John is a member of the IBDE Advisory Board.

Professor Paolo Volpin, Head of Faculty of Finance, Cass Business School Professor Paolo Volpin is a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and a Research Associate of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). Prior to joining Cass Business School, he was an Associate Professor of Finance at the London Business School. He has published on the American Economic Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Management Science, Review of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Economic Perspectives and other journals. His research in corporate finance, especially in the field of corporate governance, has won several awards. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University and a Doctorate in Political Economy from Bocconi University.

Gerald Walker, CEO, ING Wholesale Banking UK, Ireland, Middle East & Africa Gerald is Chief Executive Officer, ING Wholesale Banking UK, Ireland, Middle East & Africa - with offices in London, Dubai and Dublin. He has worked for ING and its predecessor organisations for over 25 years and undertaken a range of senior roles including Global Head of Lending, Global Head of Securities Services and Global Head of Transaction Services. During his career, Gerald has lived and worked in Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and London. He started his career at Standard Chartered Bank. Gerald is Chairman of the Board of the Association of Foreign Banks, a member of the Board of TheCityUK, and a member of the Wholesale Advisory Board of the British Bankers’ Association. He is also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers. He holds a Masters’ degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh and has subsequently followed various management courses at IMD and INSEAD. Gerald is a member of the IBDE Advisory Board.
