WELCOME LETTER

Welcome to the 27th Annual Human Rights Campaign Greater Philadelphia Dinner!

Dear Friends,

Without exception, it’s truly inspiring to see all the beautiful activists and supporters here tonight at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. We hope you all enjoy a wonderful evening of friendship, entertainment, our incredible silent auction and inspiring speakers and stories from across the LGBTQ+ community.

Without exception, we’re facing a battle for our rights. The 2024 Dinner is a pillar of our work to elect pro-equality candidates, enact equal protection and fight the hateful rhetoric of those trying to silence us. In our own backyard, school boards are taking steps to erase the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community in schools and legislation is on the books to ban drag shows but not guns.

Thankfully, there are folks out there like yourselves who fight for the LGBTQ+ community. But they need our help, and that’s why this evening is so important. By attending the dinner tonight, you provide a beacon of hope to our community. We’re all here to maintain our momentum and fuel our mission for equality with a shared sense of purpose.

We are HRC and we will succeed.

Thank you deeply for your commitment to equality and have a fabulous night!

Leigh-Anne Taylor (She/They) Marianne Mondt (She/Her) Co-Chairs, 2024 Human Rights Campaign Greater Philadelphia Dinner Committee

Kelley Robinson

HRC SPEAKER

Kelley Robinson is the ninth president of the Human Rights Campaign — the first Black, Queer woman to lead the organization. The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality and liberation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. Robinson — widely respected for her work over the last 15 years creating and leading winning campaigns and programs — stepped into her new role at HRC after serving as Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Action Fund. From community organizer to progressive leader, Robinson has been at the forefront in the fight for bodily autonomy and racial and gender equity, with a focus on lifting up marginalized communities and building political power. Robinson will lead HRC — and its more than 3 million member advocates — as the organization fulfills its mission to realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

Galaei

2024 COMMUNITY EQUALITY

Galaei is Queer, Trans, Black, Brown, Indigenous, and People of Color radical social justice organization serving the Latine/a/o/x community while widening our embrace. Galaei provides services, support, and advocacy for all QTBIPOC communities. Galaei mobilizes for access, opportunity, sexual empowerment, and economic justice while overcoming systemic oppression, structural racism, discrimination, and white supremacy.

As the largest Queer and Trans operated organization north of Vine street in Philadelphia, we pride ourselves on employing a syndemic approach and metric to serve the community. We do this with vibrant and engaging programming including Youth Programming (SPLAT), Prevention and Education Programming (POP), Trans services (TINGS) and programming for Pride and National Coming OUT Day (Philly Pride 365). All of these programs provide life saving linkages to resources and care. We are proud to be a unifying force that mobilizes the marginalized QTBIPOC peoples in Philadelphia with our primary and centering force being love, care, and affirmation for QTBIPOC.

Galaei was founded under the revolutionary leadership of founder David Acosta. GALAEI (formerly the Gay and Lesbian AIDS Education Initiative) opened its doors in 1989. Galaei was founded to confront the pain, hurt, and fear resulting from the loss of LGBTQ+ Latine/a/o/x lives to the HIV/AIDS crisis. Galaei, for 35 years, has provided a home and familia to the city of Philadelphia and so many individuals who have stepped through our doors for respite, resources, and the kind of love, support, and compassion that queer, trans, brown, black, indigenous, and people of color give freely to all who are in need. Our mission of radical social justice is rooted in the radical love that we pursue each day for trans and queer people city wide, nation wide, and globally.

Along life’s journey, let’s travel together.

GOVERNOR SPECIAL GUEST

Josh Shapiro

Josh grew up in Pennsylvania, watching his parents serve their community — his father was a pediatrician, and his mother was an educator. Their example inspired Josh to enter into public service, and from a young age, Josh recognized that standing up for others was how he wanted to spend his career. After marrying his high-school sweetheart Lori and welcoming their first child, Josh returned to his hometown and successfully ran for State Representative. As Representative, Josh helped write and pass some of the toughest ethics laws in state history. His work earned him a reputation as a rare public servant willing to take on the status quo — “a blast of oxygen in the smoke-choked back rooms of quid-pro-quo Harrisburg.”

Then, as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania’s third-largest, Josh led a fiscal and ethical turnaround. Before he took office, Montgomery County had a $10 million budget deficit and an underfunded pension for county employees. Josh put the county back on solid financial footing, took early steps to combat the heroin epidemic, helped the first LGBTQ+ couples in Pennsylvania marry, and fired Wall Street money managers to save taxpayers and retirees millions.

In 2016, Josh successfully ran to be Pennsylvania’s Attorney General. As Attorney General, he has restored integrity to an office badly in need of reform and taken on big fights for the people. He has proven to Pennsylvanians he can bring people together to solve tough problems and is unafraid to enforce the law without fear or favor.

Josh exposed the Catholic Church’s decades-long cover up of child sexual abuse, identifying 301 predator priests and thousands of victims — and spurring investigations across the United States. He forced an agreement between two of the Commonwealth’s largest insurance companies, protecting health care access for nearly 2 million Pennsylvanians, and he has repeatedly gone to court to defend Pennsylvanians’ reproductive rights and a woman’s right to choose.

He has held more than 100 corrupt officials, Republicans and Democrats alike, accountable for breaking the law. Working with law enforcement partners at the local, state, and federal level, he’s arrested thousands of mid- and high-level drug dealers while getting thousands of illegal guns off our streets.

Google is proud to support the Human Rights Campaign in a shared pursuit of building a world where everyone belongs.

WHAT WE DO

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. Since 1980, we have been fighting for a better future for LGBTQ+ Americans. We are now working tirelessly to pass the Equality Act, which will soon head to the U.S. Senate for consideration, fight back against a multitude of anti-LGBTQ+ legis-lation in states nationwide and ensure everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect. While our opponents are emboldened and on the attack, the Human Rights Campaign and our grass-roots army of more than 3.2 million members and supporters are energetically defending the rights we’ve gained and ramping up our fight for full equality across the board.

ANTI-EQUALITY LEADERS AND LEGISLATION

The alarming spate of anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced across the country in 2020 has continued to surge in 2021. These include bills that would prohibit transgender youth from receiving genderaffirming care and bills that would prohibit transgender youth from participating in sports. This wave of anti-transgender legislation harkens back to the surge of anti-transgender bathroom bills that hit state legislatures in 2016, including North Carolina’s HB2. We remain committed to aggressively fighting these threats to equality by those who seek to undermine our rights. HRC will do whatever it takes to protect the rights and fundamental equality of every LGBTQ+ person in this country.

B U IL DING A ND DEM ONS TR AT ING POLITICAL P OWER

HRC’s decades-long work to build political power has uniquely positioned us to reach LGBTQ+ and ally voters who prioritize equality on the ballot, also known as Equality Voters. HRC has identified 57 million Equality Voters nationwide who, if they turn out to vote, will support pro-equality candidates. HRC’s early and sustained year-round engagement in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin bolstered historic turnout in 2018 and 2020 producing pro-equality outcomes at every level of government. In 2019, HRC’s mobilization of Equality Voters in Virginia, where lawmakers had repeatedly blocked proequality bills over many years, produced groundbreaking progress for LGBTQ+ Americans in the South. These victories led to the Virginia Values Act becoming law, making Virginia the first state in the South to advance statewide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people.

ADVANCING EQUALITY IN OUR DAILY LIVES

The HRC Foundation improves the lives LGBTQ+ people by building understanding and shaping the public debate of LGBTQ+ people and the challenges they face through innovative research and public education campaigns. We also change the policies and practices in the institutions that shape our everyday lives (hospitals, schools, workplaces, and more) and empower strategic partners, community advocates, and allies through convenings and capacity-building. Guided by these theories of change and seeking to prioritize work impacting those who are multiply marginalized, we have 11 cuttingedge programs advancing equality in the U.S. and beyond.

All Children - All Families is the only national program dedicated to LGBTQ+ inclusion in child welfare (foster care and adoption agencies) that provides resource development, technical assistance and training.

Public Education & Research produces written resources and conducts original quantitative and qualitative research exploring the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people.

Global Partnerships provides capacity-building and leadership development opportunities to LGBTQ+ advocates from around the world to strengthen movements and advance global LGBTQ+ equality.

HBCU Program is the only national project that partners with Historically Black Colleges and Universities on establishing an LGBTQ+-inclusive campus climate.

Health & Aging provides resources and training to help thousands of healthcare facilities adopt inclusive policies and practices to better serve LGBTQ+ patients and employees.

HIV & Health Equity develops public education and capacitybuilding programs to address the disproportionate impact of HIV on Black and Latinx communities.

Religion & Faith provides faith leaders with opportunities and tools to stand up for equality even as opponents attempt to weaponize faith against LGBTQ+ people.

Transgender Justice Initiative leads economic empowerment programs, capacity-building initiatives, community engagement efforts, and public safety education campaigns that combat the discrimination faced by transgender people.

Welcoming Schools is the only bias-based bullying prevention program in the nation to provide LGBTQ+-specific training and resources with an intersectional lens, developed for use in elementary schools.

Workplace Equality advances equality for LGBTQ+ workers through the adoption and implementation of inclusive policies, practices, and benefits in the U.S. and beyond.

Youth Well-Being provides professional development to over 5,000 youth-serving professionals annually, through the annual Time to THRIVE conference, webinars, participation at major national convenings, and by amplifying the stories of HRC Youth Ambassadors. The program also convenes HRC’s Parents for Transgender Equality Council.

We all have ambitions. And working together, valuing each other and respecting our uniqueness creates the best environment for us to achieve them.

Our ambition is bold, to help the world get to net zero by 2050 or sooner. That’s why we value diversity and put being inclusive at the heart of how we operate. It’s also why we’re recognized as a top employer by the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.

HUMAN RIGHTS FOUNDATION

Furthering human progress through technology

Our core purpose is to further human progress through technology, and nowhere is this opportunity more apparent than amid the 4th Industrial Revolution. We believe humanity is always at its best when it produces innovative technologies that advance the ways we live and work.

In support of this purpose, our mission is to deliver amazing customer experiences with networking, cloud and security solutions that power next-gen business applications. We aim to democratize complex and cutting-edge technologies and deliver simple solutions, so our customers can focus on innovation, not their IT.

Our philosophy of continuous improvement means we tirelessly pursue exceptional outcomes for our customers, partners and team. And we do all this while boldly embracing change with a daring spirit to excite and inspire our customers to imagine new possibilities.
