WELCOME LETTER

Welcome to the 2024 HRC Los Angeles Dinner!

We are so incredibly thankful that you have stepped up and stepped in to this celebration of the work we all do as a community in the fight for equality.

Look around this incredible venue: fabulous guests, committed corporate partners, generous silent auction donors, inspired table captains, and of course, inspired volunteers and HRC Staff Partners. The Human Rights Campaign is effective because we are a community in all senses of that word and successful because of you, in whichever capacity “the you” has shown up tonight.

You’re here because equality is your priority. You’re here because community is your priority. You’re here because democracy is your priority. You’re here because you are HRC

The midterms are behind us, and the Presidential election is ahead. We all know what’s at stake. From the Presidential race through “down-ballot” races and ballot measures, our work together will require our trademark integrity, grassroots people power, and skill.

But you knew that. And that’s why we are all here.

To take a moment to celebrate everyone’s unrelenting resolve, in any and all forms that it takes. To refresh our grip on the levers of democracy. And to be inspired anew by the siblings standing beside each of us.

Take every moment to bask in tonight. Because tomorrow we will do what we do.

If you wish to expand your support, we are here tonight to help. In addition to the direct legislation work supporting equality candidates with events, fundraisers, canvassing, and phone banks, we also have our ongoing efforts to keep this engine running, from Fed Club & Fed Club Council, Pride season, and our ongoing coalition building. As you all have experienced, it’s necessary, effective, and fulfilling.

As the Tri-Chairs for the Los Angeles Gala Committee, we are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with each and every one of you. We thank you for your commitment to equality.

You are the living embodiment of “Love Always Wins.” Our wish is to add to this, in the words of our President Kelley, Robinson: “Love Always Wins, Without Exception.”

SPECIAL GUEST Dr. Jill Biden

As First Lady, Dr. Biden has focused on reaching out to all Americans, helping to bring our country together.

During her first two years as First Lady, Dr. Biden traveled to over 40 states and territories, over 100 cities, and ten other countries. She has continued championing the causes that have defined her public life: supporting military families, advocating for increased educational opportunities, and working to end cancer as we know it. She advanced the missions of two key White House initiatives, Joining Forces and the Cancer Moonshot , and also served as a leading messenger for the Administration’s most urgent priorities, including: safely reopening schools after the pandemic’s shutdown, supporting the President’s economic agenda , and urging adults and children to protect themselves and their communities by getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

In the spring of 2021, Dr. Biden announced the next phase and priorities of Joining Forces, her White House initiative to support military and veteran families, caregivers, and survivors. In her first two years, she visited 24 military installations; worked with Joining Forces partners to support over 30 events with the military-connected community; and launched an interagency working group with the National Security Council, which secured over 80 commitments and proposals across the federal government to support military families. Through her Joining Forces work, she has advocated for: increased economic opportunities for military spouses; additional educational programming and support for military children; more focus on health and wellness in the military community; and improved resources for caregivers and survivors, including military and veteran children in caregiving homes.

As a classroom teacher for over 30 years, advocating for increased educational opportunities for all students, of all ages, is close to her heart. From championing universal pre-school, teacher recruitment and retention, opportunities for career-connected learning , and more affordable options for education after high school, including free community college, Dr. Biden continues her work promoting q uality education for everyone.

Cancer affects every community and it’s a common dark thread for so many, including the Biden family. In recognition of World Cancer Day 2022, the President and First Lady reignited the Cancer Moonshot , laying out bold goals and a vision to end cancer as we know it. As First Lady, Dr. Biden has continued to work on behalf of American families confronting cancer, focusing on supporting patients and their loved ones during their cancer journeys; urging Americans to prioritize their cancer screenings; and reducing health inequities in diagnosis, treatment, research, and outcomes.

While serving as First Lady, Dr. Biden continued teaching English and writing at Northern Virginia Community College, where she has been a professor since 2009. She is the first presidential spouse to maintain an independent career outside of the White House.

WHAT WE DO

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. Since 1980, we have been fighting for a better future for LGBTQ+ Americans. We are now working tirelessly to pass the Equality Act, which will soon head to the U.S. Senate for consideration, fight back against a multitude of anti-LGBTQ+ legis-lation in states nationwide and ensure everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect. While our opponents are emboldened and on the attack, the Human Rights Campaign and our grass-roots army of more than 3.2 million members and supporters are energetically defending the rights we’ve gained and ramping up our fight for full equality across the board.

ANTI-EQUALITY LEADERS AND LEGISLATION

The alarming spate of anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced across the country in 2020 has continued to surge in 2021. These include bills that would prohibit transgender youth from receiving genderaffirming care and bills that would prohibit transgender youth from participating in sports. This wave of anti-transgender legislation harkens back to the surge of anti-transgender bathroom bills that hit state legislatures in 2016, including North Carolina’s HB2. We remain committed to aggressively fighting these threats to equality by those who seek to undermine our rights. HRC will do whatever it takes to protect the rights and fundamental equality of every LGBTQ+ person in this country.

B U IL DING A ND DEM ONS TR AT ING POLITICAL P OWER

HRC’s decades-long work to build political power has uniquely positioned us to reach LGBTQ+ and ally voters who prioritize equality on the ballot, also known as Equality Voters. HRC has identified 57 million Equality Voters nationwide who, if they turn out to vote, will support pro-equality candidates. HRC’s early and sustained year-round engagement in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin bolstered historic turnout in 2018 and 2020 producing pro-equality outcomes at every level of government. In 2019, HRC’s mobilization of Equality Voters in Virginia, where lawmakers had repeatedly blocked proequality bills over many years, produced groundbreaking progress for LGBTQ+ Americans in the South. These victories led to the Virginia Values Act becoming law, making Virginia the first state in the South to advance statewide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people.

ADVANCING EQUALITY IN OUR DAILY LIVES

The HRC Foundation improves the lives LGBTQ+ people by building understanding and shaping the public debate of LGBTQ+ people and the challenges they face through innovative research and public education campaigns. We also change the policies and practices in the institutions that shape our everyday lives (hospitals, schools, workplaces, and more) and empower strategic partners, community advocates, and allies through convenings and capacity-building. Guided by these theories of change and seeking to prioritize work impacting those who are multiply marginalized, we have 11 cuttingedge programs advancing equality in the U.S. and beyond.

All Children - All Families is the only national program dedicated to LGBTQ+ inclusion in child welfare (foster care and adoption agencies) that provides resource development, technical assistance and training.

Public Education & Research produces written resources and conducts original quantitative and qualitative research exploring the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people.

Global Partnerships provides capacity-building and leadership development opportunities to LGBTQ+ advocates from around the world to strengthen movements and advance global LGBTQ+ equality.

HBCU Program is the only national project that partners with Historically Black Colleges and Universities on establishing an LGBTQ+-inclusive campus climate.

Health & Aging provides resources and training to help thousands of healthcare facilities adopt inclusive policies and practices to better serve LGBTQ+ patients and employees.

HIV & Health Equity develops public education and capacitybuilding programs to address the disproportionate impact of HIV on Black and Latinx communities.

Religion & Faith provides faith leaders with opportunities and tools to stand up for equality even as opponents attempt to weaponize faith against LGBTQ+ people.

Transgender Justice Initiative leads economic empowerment programs, capacity-building initiatives, community engagement efforts, and public safety education campaigns that combat the discrimination faced by transgender people.

Welcoming Schools is the only bias-based bullying prevention program in the nation to provide LGBTQ+-specific training and resources with an intersectional lens, developed for use in elementary schools.

Workplace Equality advances equality for LGBTQ+ workers through the adoption and implementation of inclusive policies, practices, and benefits in the U.S. and beyond.

Youth Well-Being provides professional development to over 5,000 youth-serving professionals annually, through the annual Time to THRIVE conference, webinars, participation at major national convenings, and by amplifying the stories of HRC Youth Ambassadors. The program also convenes HRC’s Parents for Transgender Equality Council.

Furthering human progress through technology

Our core purpose is to further human progress through technology, and nowhere is this opportunity more apparent than amid the 4th Industrial Revolution. We believe humanity is always at its best when it produces innovative technologies that advance the ways we live and work.

In support of this purpose, our mission is to deliver amazing customer experiences with networking, cloud and security solutions that power next-gen business applications. We aim to democratize complex and cutting-edge technologies and deliver simple solutions, so our customers can focus on innovation, not their IT.

Our philosophy of continuous improvement means we tirelessly pursue exceptional outcomes for our customers, partners and team. And we do all this while boldly embracing change with a daring spirit to excite and inspire our customers to imagine new possibilities.
