Message From the Dean

Editors: U. Aytun Ozturk, Ph.D.

Aloha! As we are wrapping up the Spring Semester we celebrate the success of CBA faculty members who are doing an outstanding job in the classroom. During the last Faculty Assembly meeting two full time and two adjunct faculty members were presented awards for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. CBA professors have always done a stellar job in the classroom and these awards are given to the best of the best who go the extra mile to ensure that HPU students are well prepared by the time they graduate and begin their professional careers. We congratulate these professors and look forward to the continuation of their excellence in teaching. U. Aytun Ozturk, Dean

During summer the College of Business Administration will be expanding to include three master’s degree programs that are currently housed in the College of Professional Studies: the Master of Science in Information Systems, the Master of Arts in Human Resources Management, and the Master of Arts in Organizational Change. It is with great pleasure that we welcome the faculty members teaching in these graduate programs to the College. There is no doubt in my mind that the synergy created by this change will allow the programs in the CBA to further grow by building on mutual strengths. We have had a vibrant semester in the CBA despite the global economic crisis the world is facing and bleak outlook forecasted by Dr. Leroy Laney in his latest report prepared for First Hawaiian Bank. Our EMBA Program welcomed HPU Trustee Steve Baker at the EMBA Distinguished Speaker Luncheon, where the EMBA students had the opportunity to learn from his experiences as a successful entrepreneur. The Entrepreneurship Center organized two seminars and has another one scheduled for spring with the objective of exposing our students to the knowledge and skills they need to become successful entrepreneurs. The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Club competed in the regional SIFE competition and showcased the projects they are working on locally and globally. The Travel Industry Student Organization (TIMSO) ranked in the top three during the Club Carnival Competition. The list goes on and on. We thank all of the students and faculty members who continue contributing to the life of the College and wish everyone an enjoyable summer.
