Faculty Highlights Dr. Jerome Agrusa had his research paper accepted on “Participative Tourism Development for the conference titled Traditions and Transformations: Tourism, Heritage and Cultural Change in the Middle East and North Africa Region”, April 2009, Amman, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Dr. Susan Fox-Wolfgramm received a Faculty Development Grant for presenting her research paper titled, “Towards Student Learning How to Strategically Manage Themselves Before They Strategically Manage an Organization: A Unique Curriculum Design for the MBA Capstone Course,” at the Hawaii International Conference on Business in Honolulu, Hawaii, May 2008. Dr. Leroy Laney just completed a study entitled “Measuring Tourism’s Importance to the Hawaii Economy,” which is published by First Hawaiian Bank. During Spring Break, he travelled to Guam, to conduct his third annual survey of the economy of Guam and the Northern Marianas, also to be published by the bank. Dr. Ernesto Lucas presented a paper “The Demand for and Prices of Single Family Dwelling Units in Hawaii, 1983-2000” at the 16th Annual Conference of the American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences, held at the Imperial Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, 2009. Ken Schoolland was hosted by the Polish American Foundation for Economic Research and Education (PAFERE) on a speaking tour across Poland, including 15 schools and universities in 5 cities. The Arabic edition of his economics book for youth, Jamal Attaib, has just been published in Jordan. This is the 43rd language edition of the book.

Alumni Updates Wendi Kagawa has been named a financial services associate for Prudential Insurance Company of America. Prior to joining Prudential, Kagawa worked as an intern at Merrill Lynch. She graduated from Hawai‘i Pacific University with a degree in marketing and entrepreneurship. Noe Kanekoa took over the Kahului store of Jamba Juice after being the general manager at the Old Lahaina. Kanekoa graduated from Lahainaluna High School in 1999 and graduated from Hawai‘i Pacific University in 2005. She worked at Jamba Aiea from 2002, was promoted to assistant general manager at Jamba Kaneohe and moved back to Maui in 2006. April Katada has been named financial services associate of the Prudential Insurance Company of America. Prior to joining Prudential, Katada worked with Bank of Hawaii and Bebe Inc. She majored in management at Hawai‘i Pacific University. Alberto Maldonado has been named director of sales for ProService Hawaii. Maldonado is responsible for supervising ProService’s statewide business development team. He was formerly vice president of front line at Wyndham Resorts and has extensive experience in direct sales, sales & marketing, telemarketing management, direct mail, and motivational training. He is a member of the Navy League of the USA, Surfrider Foundation, and Friends of K-Bay. Eileen Chu McQuian passed the CPA exam with high scores on all four sections. McQuian earned her MBA in Finance at Hawai‘i Pacific University.
