HOLY SPIRIT PREPARATORY SCHOOL

LOWER SCHOOL

CATHOLIC, CLASSICAL EDUCATION Holy Spirit Prep embraces the traditions of Catholic education to form students of deep faith, advanced intellect, and heroic virtue. Our approach is rooted in over 2000 years of the Catholic faith with a focus on forming virtue and the intellect. Holy Spirit Prep is committed to a time-tested Classical pedagogy which inspires our students to learn how to think, while teaching them prudence to exercise sound judgment. Geared towards excellence and steeped in wonder, our program is rooted in the growth of virtuous habits through recognition of God’s creation and the divine order of the universe. Orientation of the mind to God provides an opportunity for young students to mature into capable adults who thrive in higher-level subjects and interests.

ACADEMICS Lower School students are: • Enriched in the imagination and critical thinking that classical works evoke • Encouraged to read and imitate traditional models of quality literature and art • Instilled with a fundamental understanding of perennial math concepts • Immersed in God’s creation through formal scientific observation and experimentation • Introduced to Latin with the goal of ultimately becoming fluent in the universal language of the Catholic Church • Able to participate in the Seton Center which academically serves our 3rd through 5th graders

FAITH FORMATION Lower School students are formed on the fundamentals of the faith. Namely, faith, prudence, and magnanimity, which provide the foundation upon which their curriculum is built. This enables students to have an innate understanding of the purpose of learning and of how their Catholic faith informs and directs their daily lives. • Specific activities include: researching the lives of the saints, altar serving and lecturing at class Masses, preparing for and experiencing the Sacrament of First Holy Communion together, and completing special projects for feast and holy days.

SERVICE Ministrare non Ministrari To serve and not to be served Our students are taught to live out the mission of the school by developing a servant’s heart that is used for their families and communities, but ultimately for God through personal daily encounters and charitable projects.

LIFE SKILLS The Lower School embodies the essential qualities needed for its students to grow into virtuous young adults, equipping them not only for success in their ambitions in this world, but ultimately in the world to come. Specific programs include: • John Carroll Resource Center to assist students with different learning profiles • Monthly Virtue Program focused on instilling virtue and Lower School students being mentored by Middle School students • Book Buddies where Lower School Students have the opportunity to mentor the preschool students • Tutorials which are opportunities for students to meet with their teachers before and after school • After school clubs such as ESP, iFaith, Gymnastics, Playball, Boys Club, ECyD Challenge, and Robotics

FINE ARTS The purpose of the Fine Arts Program is to expose students to the transcendentals, truth, beauty, and goodness, to enlighten their senses so they may more deeply understand God’s love for His creation. Lower School students also focus on reading, writing, and understanding music using conversational solfège and basic piano instruction. They develop their foundational music skills that will allow them to perform in Band, Orff Ensemble, Elementary Chorus, Liturgical Chorus, and Musical Theatre. For those seeking to advance further, we offer an on campus after school music academy where students can receive instruction in piano, music theory and composition, ensemble coaching, and college/honor band audition preparation and recording.

ATHLETICS Lower School students have daily recess and weekly PE classes which lay a foundation for a healthy active lifestyle, cover the basics of fitness, and instill sportsmanship, teamwork, and virtuous competition. After school students are also able to participate in soccer, cheer, basketball, and tennis.
