DEAN'S MESSAGE I am delighted to include a message in this year's Pocket Part. The Pocket Part represents a less formal and more personal remembrance of student's years at the Hofstra Law School. More than anything else it serves as a memoir of classmates, student organizations and faculty, with photographs of familiar settings and pleasurable events. In that respect Pocket Part is a relaxed diversion from the rigors of the curriculum, examinations and other professional and academic demands. I believe in the cliche that "all work and no play makes one dull." Pocket Part serves as a souvenir of both the "work and the play"of Law School but in a congenial and camaraderie mode. We congratulate you on the completion of your studies here. We wish you every success in your professional lives. We respect you as our most prominent and important "ambassadors" to the legal profession.

Is there life during law school? The question, immortilized on bumper stickers, is asked by almost every law student and can be answered with a few simple observations. When Professor Si Iverman scans his class roster looking for the "victim of the day", the terror felt by his students in attendance indicated life in the classroom. When Professor Resnick asks "Is there a contract?" and gets no response and then shouts "But its April! You should know this by now", that sinking feeling you got was proofpositive of life in the classroom. Clearly there was life during our moot court oral argument. The rush of adrenaline, shaking of knees, sweat on the palms, and hollow feeling of your stomach dropping to your knees were all signs of life. Aside from the extremely stressful situations there were other things that proved there was a better side to life at school. Friends, speaker programs, clubs, organizations, clinics, and intramurals all helped to improve the quality of life at Hofstra Law. When one observes students talking and laughing in the lounges, working on crossword puzzles, reading the local newspaper, gossiping, and trashing the lobby, there is a definite feeling of life. One of the best examples of life during law school are the world reknown law school parties which one routinely covered by the press. How about those end of the semester events when the sky's the limit? That's life! There is also a feeling of community and camaraderie when students pull together in rooting for the World Champion Mets and Giants, donating food and clothing for the poor, and supporting the various school organizations by attending a lecture or helping with a fundraiser. After all what would law school be like if PAD and BLSA didn't sell bagels and real coffee? The answer to "Is there life during law school?" is an emphatic YES!

which the master once again speaks the truth". Finally, one of the attendant students asked, "Master, how can both these men speak the truth?" also speaks the truth." Undoubtedly many lawyers and laypersons alike are troubled by the paradigm illustrated in the above fable. Thomas J. Trizeharder 42 Unemployment Lane Alantown, R.I. 00000 Mr. R.E. Jection, Esq, Hardest, Rebuff, Ever, Doncallus, & Welcalu, P.C. 40 Wall Street New York, N.Y. 10034 Dear Mr. Jection: I am a student at Hofstra Law School and am looking for summer employment. I'm terribly sorry I am not from Harvard, but I hope you will consider the fact that the name of my school is also a 7 letter word beginning with "H". Please refer to the enclosed resume with my qualifications which you undoubtedly will find exceptional. I hope your Recruiting Committee carefully reads with interest my substantial accomplishments, as you will undoubtedly inform me of in my rejection letter. I am aware that competition for positions with your firm is intense and I also know that you are consequently required to decline and blacklist the applications of many promising candidates. I shamelessly beg, grovel, and fully prostitute myself for the most meager opportunity to at least empty the waste basket in which my resume will inevitably be found. In short, I'll do anything to be in your employ. I look forward to hearing that you believe my record is excellent and that it reflects that I should look forward to a successful career in law, but that you must reluctantly conclude after meticulous consideration, that your crowded schedule and inundation with applications does not allow you to grant me an interview. I further understand that if your situation should change in the future that you will drop everything and contact me immediately. I do not mean to agonize you with the decision to hire me or crush me where I live, therefore I have enclosed a pre-addressed, stamped rejection notice which if you would kindly give to your underpaid, oversexed receptionist to drop in the mail, my relationship with your ambulance-chasing firm and my life will be terminated. In closing, let me say that I know where you live, where your daughter goes to school, and that your wife is at home alone all day. Thank you for allowing my life on paper to occupy your round file cabinet and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Dear Readers: I started this project with the expectation of it being a simple job. One of my friends told me how wrong I was. How True! This yearbook comes to you through the efforts of a special group of people. Their time an efforts have been greatly appreciated. We have not had a yearbook in over three years and hope this book will renew an old tradition. I wish to thank Doug Rosenthal for his monumental efforts, for without Doug this book would not have been completed. Special thanks go to Andrew Nachamie for his yeoman's effort in raising thousands through advertising. Also, I would like to thank Jean Collins and Rochelle Benjamin for overseeing the photo aspects of this book. Another individual who deserves my thanks, is Dan Feldman for all his aid in completing this book. Last but in no way least, I would like to thank Pamela Faison for her countless hours of copy work.
