THE PUBLISHER It’s hard to believe that Heartland LIVING was created a very short, and long, five years ago—depending on how you look at it. I am humbled by how far we’ve come and that only partially represents how I feel. Heartland LIVING has been a project, a passion and a personal blessing for me. Because of the number of contributors, businesses trusting us with their advertising, supporters, staff members and devoted readers, Heartland LIVING has become something far beyond my initial concept and imagination. Celebrating this milestone, I have been honored to reflect back on how blessed I have been to work with everyone that has been a part of my team. Thank you to all my writers, photographers and behind the scene help. Heartland LIVING wouldn’t have been created without a huge push from my creative designer Bridgette Waldau. We were working together on a project and she kept saying, this community needs it’s own magazine. The economy wasn’t the best to start a magazine in print but I prayed about it and here we are. Bridgette is behind the scenes creating your ads, designing the layout of the magazine that you all love and I’m honored to have worked with her for 7 amazing years. I’m also honored to work side by side with my daughter, Jessica. She is our editorial director but does so much more than that with her many talents. I’m blessed to work with her daily and have Finley Grace running the office. We celebrated our 5 Year Anniversary on December 3 with a Jamboree and I want to thank all that came out to celebrate with us and donate to two local charities, the Children’s Museum of Highlands and Toys 4 Tots. This party wouldn’t have happened without the partnership from our supporters. A huge thank you to D & N Cabinetry for our Jamboree sign, I loved it! Also to Everglades Foods, Taylor Rental, The Wild Hare Flowers/DHS Design Guild for the gorgeous flower arrangements and The Cookie Jar for the beautiful and so delicious cake. As with every year, I want to personally thank you for letting us share pieces of our wonderful communities with you. In her spare time, Kristy enjoys painting with watercolor and acrylic, taking photos of her daughter, traveling and spending time with friends and family.

When I snapped Marvin Kahn’s picture standing in front of a
giant mural of Mike and Sadie Kahn, his parents, painted on a wall in downtown Sebring, Florida, I knew I was looking at a legend. I observed the pride in Marvin Kahn’s eyes, in his voice, and gestures as began to tell his family’s story, weaving through early American history to the place where we were now standing at the “Sadie Kahn Memorial Park.” The Kahn family story brings chills to the body and admiration for a man who manifested his dreams in seemingly insecure, impossible times; however, with perseverance and faith in his dreams shared with many others, they became reality.

Marvin Kahn was the fourth child born in Sebring to Sadie and Mike “Kovalski.” The Kovalski’s were
Lithuanian Jewish immigrants who came to America via Ellis Island between 1920-1926. Mike Kovalski was on a boat coming to America when World War I broke-out. Mike’s older brother, Barney, had previously entered the United States sponsored by a cousin living in Atlanta. When he arrived at Ellis Island, the family name was changed to “Kahn.” Marvin Kahn recalls the stories his mother told him about living in Lithuania when it was under Russian, Poland, Lithuanian rule. “There was very limited freedom in Lithuania as Jews were deprived of owning a business, getting an education and employment was very limited. When Jewish boys turned 13 years of age, they were drafted into the Russian Army. However, before World War I, life in Lithuania under German rule and also in Germany was much better for Jews. Jews prospered with personal freedom. This caused a significant number of Jews to migrate into Germany from all over Eastern Europe. However, with the onset of World Word II and Hitler’s Holocaust, Jews became the ‘scapegoat.’ With severe deprivation in post-World War I Germany, Hitler’s untruths began to spread and were believed by the non-Jewish German population. Six million Jews were massacred,” Kahn explains. Marvin Kahn’s daddy, Mike Kahn, followed in his brother’s footsteps to Georgia where he and wife, Sadie settled in Sales City. Kahn says, “Mamma did not like her new home as she said it reminded her of Lithuania, so daddy decided to look elsewhere. He hitched a ride with a truck driver to an unknown place he heard about called ‘Avon Park, Florida.’ After looking around, he asked about other nearby towns and was told about a new one: ‘Sebring, Florida,’ a few miles south.” Kahn began to walk south in that direction. As an enterprising man, Kahn was looking for a business opportunity, a pleasing town for Sadie and a happy place to start over in America. When he arrived in Sebring, he met the town’s founder, George E. Sebring and talked to him about opening a dry goods business downtown. Mr. Sebring offered Kahn a retail location in a new building under construction, the Nacessowee Hotel, a building site next to the lot that Kahn eventually donated in honor of his parents: “The Sadie Kahn Memorial Park.”
The inscription reads: “Highlands County is a subtropical paradise where George E. Sebring founded a new town in 1912. In 1923, Mr. Sebring welcomed Mike and Sadie Kahn and a strong friendship formed. They opened a store on Ridgewood Drive and Mr. Sebring gave Mike a lot for a synagogue. Mike bought his first grove and home on old Desoto City Rd and the Kahn’s citrus interests blossomed. The Sadie Kahn’s citrus interests blossomed. This Sadie Kahn Memorial Park was named by the city in 1980 and was rededicated for Sebring’s centennial in 1012. Kenneth Treister [world famous artist] designed the Centennial sculptures and benches.”I knew I was looking at a legend. He is the fourth born child in Sebring and at 83 years old, a 21st century citrus grower/management entrepreneur, cowboy, and founder of the Florida Cracker Trail."

By 1933, the dry goods business had prospered and Mike expanded his interest purchasing his first citrus grove. “Citrus”
was an interest he had learned in Lithuania living amongst non-Jewish farmers when he was not allowed to own land. To this day, Marvin Kahn says “some of the original trees are still alive in his groves.” When Marvin Kahn was 10 years old his daddy passed away but by then he had accumulated 200 acres of citrus as a grower and business man. As the family business thrived, Marvin Kahn decided he wanted to follow his long time dream of becoming a cattle rancher and citrus man. He attended Sebring High School, joined the 4-H Club and met lifelong friend, later, State Legislator, Burt Harris. “When I was young, I didn’t have the foresight to learn what I could have learned in the cattle business as I learned everything on my own. I didn’t know anything about marketing which is important in the cattle industry today,” says Kahn.
Heartland LIVING “Utilizing my University of Florida education “I experimented with a piece of land in South Lake Placid on Highway 70. It was a sand hill with muck that needed drainage and sand.” He added with a chuckle, “The land was so poor that ‘a rabbit December 2016 would need to carry his lunch.’ However, this does not agree with the current thinking about the land’s potential. I sold January the parcel to my friend Bert Harris and now it is it planted in beautiful citrus,” boasts Kahn. 2017

In the meantime, Kahn had another inspiration. This
new idea was spawned by the “Woodpecker Trail,” “Soul of the South,” Highway 121 from Gainesville, Florida to Charlotte, North Carolina. The “Woodpecker Trail” carried travelers from South Carolina and Georgia to Florida. The “Woodpecker Trail” was a marketing idea to draw people back into Florida’s interior. Kahn’s inspiration was to commemorate Florida’s 200 year heritage of the cattle industry with the creation of a Florida Cracker Trail. In the 1800s as ranchers migrated into Florida, they bred their herds with Andalusian cattle left behind by Ponce de Leon. Historical records reveal that Florida then had vast swamps and flatlands of pine and oak proving to be ideal for the development of ranches with the Government offering economic incentives to settle the land. Many southerners trailed into Wild Florida, an unknown rugged destination of struggle and an attitude of ‘survival-of-the-fittest’ just like the pioneer Indians before them,” says Kahn.

In the 1800s, cattle were herded across Florida to Punta Rassa on the West coast where they were shipped by riverboat to Cuba after the Spanish American War to replenish the beef supply and out of Ft. Pierce, on the east coast, where they were shipped throughout the breadbasket of the world. Kahn says, “Florida’s pioneer ‘cow hunters’ carved a path into Florida or poled through deep swamps with the family stowed on wooden wagons, cattle and dogs tramping alongside, forging into Florida after three Seminole Indian Wars. Two hundred years ago, a new page in Florida history was beginning to be recorded.” Kahn wanted the replication of the old “Cracker Trail” to be an annual calling to ranchers to honor the legendary “cow hunters.” Kahn felt that the Florida Cracker Trail should run along a route from Fort Myers on the west coast to Ft. Pierce on the east coast. In 1955, Pershing Platt of Hardee County was instrumental in the creation of the Cracker Trail Association. He first rode a horse on the original Cracker Trail when he was 15 years old and was also the first trail boss on the first trail ride along with many others from all over the state.

“It was my wife, Elsa, who asked an artist friend to create the now famous emblem of the Florida Cracker Trail Association. The design depicts the cross-state trail with a cowboy on his horse swinging the ever-present, utilitarian cracker whip used to keep cattle in check on the long cattle drives and send messages to other cowboys miles up the line. The emblem today symbolizes the Florida Cracker Trail Association. The Florida Cracker Trail Association (FCT) yearly ride crosses Central Florida through miles of orange groves on State Road 64, 66 and County Road 68.

s Kahn talked to me about the “Cracker Trail,” I accompanied him on a drive west on State Road 66 from Sebring to the “first ranch where I was a ‘cowboy,’” says Kahn. Today, the remains of his Crewsville ranch with horse stable and deteriorating feed trough has been incorporated into the Florida Cracker Trail. Kahn’s own legacy covers a history of eighty-three years from cowboy to businessman and leader in the Florida citrus industry. Today, he has taken on a major concern of citrus growers across the state, the devastating “citrus greening.” As I arrived at a long metal building displaying a sign reading: Kahn Citrus Management, LLC and Murphy Agriculture Solutions of the Heartland, LLC, the building was almost lost in the vestige of an old Sebring revival neighborhood beneath the tower of a deserted power plant. Except for the bright welcoming yellow awnings, I might have missed the new offices that Kahn and his 27 year old partner, Trevor Murphy, occupy as they forge ahead into the innovate science of healing deadly citrus greening threatening to destroy Florida Citrus of all kinds.

Opening into a spacious office, I was greeted by two friendly ladies who have worked for Kahn many years: India Craske and Angel Nowling. I relinquished my imagination from the long pathway of Kahn’s past into a Vision of Hope in their promising endeavor and the future of Kahn’s lifelong calling in the citrus groves. Kahn’s philosophy is always focused on moving forward to make “improvement in all regards” and now he faces a crucial challenge.

“A major concern in the citrus
industry today is the cost to expand and make all necessary improvements. The largest most expensive improvement is a cure or a way to live with, and make money, dealing with citrus greening. Citrus greening is a devastating disease and if no effort is made to improve our citrus trees, they will all die! There are efforts moving forward to improve the present crop by reducing stress, drought, and disease of the trees. Improving the health of existing trees by reducing their size, to induce juvenile trees for production is important and a good use of ‘Time,’ the biggest and most expensive cost for making improvements,” Kahn expresses with concern. “A very big help, in this regard, is planting new citrus groves. The new IRS rule has recently changed to allow the cost of planting to be ‘expensed’ rather than amortizing the cost over five years; a very significant improvement. Florida Citrus Mutual Manager, Mike Sparks is implementing this change with Congress,” Kahn emphasizes. Citrus Greening is bacteria transmitted by the African Citrus psyllid that stunts the growth of trees. The disease was first reported in China in 1943 but was known to exist since the 20’s in South Africa and worldwide. Kahn says that “greening affects the leaves that support the roots, damages the fruit, and the tree eventually dies. In Florida, today, citrus crop production has gone down 30 to 40% a year.” Elsa and Marvin Kahn
Kahn and Murphy are working with the Citrus Research and Educational Foundation (CREF) to find a way to save the trees. “It is still a mystery on how to solve the problem but we have to have profitable production of a citrus tree with youthful vitality and vigor to fight off the bacteria. The industry cannot survive without economic growth, people and supplies. We have to find a way to live with the infestation. Our business model is to search for a way to produce healthy trees, giving water when the trees need moisture, protecting them from stress, drought, floods and bugs. We are currently working with scientists from universities to discuss a new direction. We have no choice but to find a solution to inhibit greening for profitable citrus tree production.” “This is our Mission,” emphasizes Kahn. “’Time’ Heartland is the biggest cost, to be used wisely.” LIVING

W
ith a non-profit name of, Knotty Girl Loves, Inc. – “Knotty Girl” for short, you are sure to get a lot of attention! In 2016, that is exactly what has been happening. Breast cancer survivor and Sebring resident, Diana Albritton founded Knotty Girl in 2013. With her rope and knot body, Knotty Girl is a visual representation of what breast cancer can feel like…round and hard like a KNOT! Her mission is to educate on the importance of monthly breast self-exams. Along with your yearly mammogram, monthly breast self-exams help to familiarize yourself on how your body looks and feels so that you can alert your health care provider to any changes that you may notice between mammograms. One of the long-term goals for Knotty Girl was to have a lodge in the mountains where breast cancer survivors could come to relax and heal. After having breast cancer, many survivors are at a loss for how to proceed next. The concept of the lodge was designed around a sense of community support from other survivors with activities and team building to help regain confidence, strength and faith. Demonstrating that there is life after cancer. The team knew that the lodge was a long-term plan, nothing that would be happening in the near future. However, it occurred to Diana that she had been bringing friends and family to her home in the Smoky Mountains for years, maybe it wasn’t a lodge that we were ready for, but a Weekend Retreat was definitely a possibility. Using the same concept as the lodge, the Knotty Girl team quickly began planning the Inaugural Knotty Girl Mountain Retreat for Breast Cancer Survivors. The weekend was themed, ‘Reconnect, Relax and Exhale’ and was held in a little town in the mountains of North Carolina. “For our first Retreat, we invited the leadership from the Orlando Warriors on Water all breast cancer survivor dragon boat paddling team. They were a perfect fit as they are a team of women who knew each other, have traveled together and would be comfortable sleeping in a ‘bunk house’ setting.” Together, the houses could accommodate six survivors and four ‘staff’ members. Justine Finocchiaro-Doles, Pattie Heavener, Stephanie Parks and Marsha Goss) and the ‘staff’ included Diana, Knotty Girl Photographer, Elena Rodriguez, Diana’s long time friend, Cindy Jenkins and myself. “All the activities planned for the Retreat helped to build team skills and comradery as well as to promote health and wellness. The mountains, water, fresh air and soothing environment left the survivors feeling refreshed and reconnected.” On the agenda were zip-lining, white water rafting and hiking. “When you have a name like ours, you have to be quick to follow-up an explanation after ‘Hi! This is Kristy with Knotty Girl.’ But once she shared our mission and story she had their attention!” explained Diana when describing my journey to finding financial supporters for the Retreat. “We are completely overwhelmed with the support the inaugural retreat received. We have always been supported by our local friends and family but with the Retreat, everyone went above and beyond!” continued Diana. The team agrees with the old saying, ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ Because we know first hand that it also takes a village to raise a non-profit.

After honoring Survivors at the Retreat it was now time to honor Knotty Girl Supporters. Three weeks after the retreat, we attended the 10th Annual Raft & Zip for the Cure that honored breast cancer survivors and supporters. We wanted our supporters to feel what it was like to be at the Retreat. So we invited several ladies from Highlands and Hardee Counties to join us in the mountains for a weekend trip. Pat Miller, Mary (Basso) McCormick, Cindy Adams, Elle Dewyngaert, Gloria Coffey, Rose Marie Tippins, Kim Mawhinney, Kathy Day and Lynda Hahn joined the Knotty Team (Diana, Elena and myself) on a road trip to Reconnect, Relax and Exhale! “What an experience! Great trip and great group of women!

Diana has had her own successful insurance business (Albritton’s Insurance Services) for over 13 years, I left

early 80 established and emerging fine artists and crafters from the U.S. participated in one of Florida’s longest consecutive running art festivals in historic downtown Sebring on Nov. 5-6. With more than $6,000 in cash awards for juried artists and scholarships for emerging artists, the 50th Annual Highlands Fine Arts Festival, presented by Duke Energy and hosted by the Highlands Art League (HAL), kicked off the holiday gift-buying season with the area’s most popular art event. In addition to the Circle of Artists, the Festival included the Emerging Artist category; Children’s Street & Tent, Culinary Street and the new Chamber of Commerce Street; live music and kids art & craft activities.

pread over 420 acres in Lake Wales is one of the most beautiful pieces of land in Polk County. Triple Canopy Ranch went ‘under the knife’ for a complete facelift in preparation for the inaugural CountryFlo Music and Camping Festival on November 4 and 5. When I visited the property for the first time back in March I was already impressed with the transition from mud holes and dirt tracks to the beautiful road, the man-made lakes and ponds and the overall preservation of the natural property. The management team had a vision for this facility and I knew something extraordinary was in store for this festival! „

It was an eclectic mix of old country with the likes of Marshall Tucker Band and Gary Allen, up and comers like Maddie and Tae and Country Superstars Thomas Rhett and Chris Stapleton. Each artist that was announced was just as exciting as the last.

Although the CountryFlo Team shared their vision for the property, nothing could have prepared me for what was in store upon driving through the gates on Thursday afternoon. TCR was beautifully renovated with tree lined camping areas, lakes, palm trees, three stages (Citrus Stage, Sunshine Stage and Sugar Sand Stage) and a unique island with a beautiful Tiki Hut, the Lagoon Saloon. There was an area for Glamping that had fully furnished tents, Greek row for the college students that took advantage of the special ticketing and acres of beautiful land to pick your perfect camping spot; truly something for everyone. It was overwhelming to see how far this bare piece of land had come in just a few months. „

he concertgoers that were eager to get the perfect camping spot arrived Thursday and were welcomed with two concerts on the Sugar Sand Stage. They were able to get an early sample of the specialty cocktails served at the Lagoon Saloon and practice round on the custom corn hole boards on the sandy beaches of the island. The sultry voice of local favorite Justin Grimes was one of the artists on hand to get everyone amped for what was to come the next two days. As the sun shined on the first day of the festival it was exhilarating as I was looking forward to seeing so many great artists and to see what CountryFlo was all about. The grounds were filled with food trucks and retail vendors preparing for the crowds, the staff doing last minute preparations for concerts and recreation areas and everyone taking their first look around at the immaculate detail that was put into the planning of the festival grounds.

When asked about his current hit “Star of the Show” written for his wife, Lauren, he shared that “It’s the hardest song to sing because of the emotional factor…it’s my favorite song and I’m so thankful it’s doing so well.” Most of his songs are upbeat and he’s a great entertainer so this is definitely just the beginning of a great career for this humble star.

fter the success of day one, day two of the festival was sure to not disappoint with artists such as local crowd favorite Logan Dressel Band, A Thousand Horses, Gary Allen, and Chris Stapleton. Old Dominion who is currently on their hit “Meat and Candy” Tour are looking forward to some time off during the holidays to enjoy their favorite dishes including Stuffing and Pumpkin Pie. The artist definitely did not disappoint with their performances. Each stage was set up with artist walk areas for up close and personal artist experiences as well as amazing lighting effect and an overall great show for each artist.

Southern Winter Dinner Beef Tenderloin 1 (4 to 6 pound) filet of beef 2 Tablespoons butter (softened) 1 Tablespoon salt 1 Tablespoon coarsely ground pepper 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Night before cooking, rub butter on beef. Tie tenderloin up if necessary. Apply seasonings, wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate.

Day of: Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Remove beef tenderloin from refrigerator and bring to room temperature. Place on foil lined sheet pan. Place in oven. Roast 22-23 minutes for rare, 25-26 minutes for medium. Set timer to cook precisely. Remove from oven and cover entire pan tightly with aluminum foil for 20 minutes.
Stuffed Mushrooms 2-quart size containers button mushrooms (Clean, cut very bottom of stem off, remove remaining stem, drain and dry) 1 package Jimmy Dean Sausage, Regular (or hot if desired) 2 Tablespoons dried minced onions 1-8 ounce package cream cheese 2 cups mozzarella (divided) 1 ½ cups Herb Seasoned dry stuffing (Pepperidge Farms)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brown sausage then add minced onion, cream cheese, and 1 cup mozzarella. Completely melt cheeses and stir until well blended. Take off heat and stir in ½ cup herb stuffing cubes. Spray large 9 x 13 glass baking dish with butter spray. Sprinkle ½ cup dry herb stuffing mix in bottom of pan. Arrange mushrooms. Stuff each mushroom generously with sausage mixture. Sprinkle remaining ½ cup herb stuffing mix over mushrooms. Top each mushroom with remaining mozzarella cheese. Bake in oven for 20-25 minutes. Do not overcook.
Macaroni and Cheese 1-16 ounce box elbow macaroni
Cook according to package directions. Drain. Stir in half stick butter and 1/2 cup sour cream until completely melted. 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese 1 cup mild cheddar 1 cup Colby jack 1/2 cup gruyere (grated) 1 cup Colby cubed cheese Any other cheese (Asiago, Parmesan) 2-4 cups heavy cream 3 eggs 1/2 t. Mustard Salt & pepper to taste
Mix all together with the macaroni. Place in large glass baking dish (sprayed or buttered). Bake covered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, uncover and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
Sugar Cream Pie 1-9 inch pie crust Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Bake pie crust for 8-10 minutes (partially cooked). Remove from oven and set aside. 4 Tablespoons cornstarch ¾ cup white sugar 4 Tablespoon melted butter 2 1/4 cups heavy cream 1 Tablespoon vanilla Topping 4 Tablespoon melted butter 1/4 -1/2 cup cinnamon sugar with 2-3 teaspoons cinnamon Note: Can use as little as a 2-1/4 cups to as much as 1/2 cup cinnamon sugar, depending on your taste.
In small bowl, combine cornstarch and ¾ cup sugar until completely incorporated. In saucepan, melt butter. Add sugar/cornstarch mixture and heavy cream. Use whisk to stir (constantly) over medium heat. Mixture is done when thick. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour cream mixture into partially baked pie crust. Drizzle 4 Tablespoons melted butter over pie and smooth out with back of spoon. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar completely over butter. Bake in 325 degree oven for 25 minutes. Turn broiler on and CAREFULLY WATCH for one minute. Remove from oven. Allow to completely come to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

The Florida Hospital Heartland Foundation hosted their 22 Annual All American Gala on Friday, November 11 through Sunday, November 13. The Gala consisted of four events; a golf tournament, formal black tie dinner and silent auction, Chris Tomlin concert and 5K/10K walk and run. The Foundation also recognized one of their long-time supporters, the family of Mrs. Patricia M. Davis and the late Joe L. Davis, Sr. The Davis family has been invested in the community for many years. Their legacy lives on with their son Joe Jr. and daughter in law Gloria. The Davis family has played a key role in helping bring high quality healthcare to Hardee and Highlands County and recently made a major gift to FH Wauchula to leave a legacy for generations to come.

The Gala Dinner was followed by a sell-out show featuring contemporary Christian music artist Chris Tomlin. Chris Tomlin holds 12 No. 1 radio singles, a Grammy Award, three Billboard Music Awards and 21 Dove Awards.

The 22 Annual Foundation Gala tee’d off on Veteran’s Day, Friday, November 11 at Sun ‘n Lake Golf Club for the Gala golf tournament. Following the tournament was the Gala dinner and silent auction on Saturday, November 12 at the South Florida State College gymnasium. The black tie affair featured a patriotic theme and the night was dedicated to honoring veteran’s including the presentation of colors by Hardee High School and a beautiful rendition of Proud to be an American sung by Devon Donaldson.

Photography by Sharon Cannon The 6th Annual Adam Bryant Minimal Regatta launched on October 1 at C. Scott Driver Park with this year’s theme of "We could be heroes." The opened the door to limitless possibilities for the annual homemade boat race with a twist. This event is hosted by For Okeechobee, Inc., a local non-profit whose mission is "serving those in need in and around Okeechobee, FL� and began in 2011 in honor of Adam Bryant. The Friday kickoff party included dinner, dancing, judging of the boats and a firework display. On Saturday, the hand-crafted vessels took to the water to see who would take top honors! Local merchants, food vendors and a kids play area were on site to ensure there was something fun for all!

SFSC Foundation Jacaranda Hotel Event
SFSC Foundation invited guests to the Hotel Jacaranda on November 10 for an Open House featuring tours of 16 newly restored rooms at the near century old hotel on Main Street in Avon Park. The room restoration project came about under the guidance of Joan Hartt, an SFSC Foundation board member, former SFSC trustee, and lifelong Highlands County resident. After 90 years of giving comfort to overnight guests, Hartt saw that the 60-room hotel needed some attention. She set about selecting guest rooms for a complete makeover. Joined by her daughter-in-law Sheila, and friend Shelly Parton, Hartt selected rooms on the hotel’s second floor for renovations, adding new furniture, lamps, and decorative furnishings. Seven rooms on the second floor remain available for restoration with plans to move to the third floor next year. Donors can either decorate a room themselves or hand the task over to Hartt, who will be assisted by her daughter-in-law Sheila and friend Parton, both professional decorators. Donors will have a plaque recognizing their support affixed to the door of the guest room they’ve sponsored. This is a unique opportunity to preserve the history of this beautiful hotel.
