Cuando llegan estas semanas de gran actividad e intensidad de citas y eventos sociales llama la atención la cantidad de cara foráneas que se encuentran día a día en los diferentes puntos de encuentro y lugares más concurridos de Sotogrande y todo el Valle del Guadiaro. El turismo es un fenómeno, bendito y adorado en muchas zonas de España y ésta entre ellas, que sólo hace creer y que su desarrollo no puede ser otro que el de ir a más en cantidad y esperemos que mayor calidad también (al menos aquí). Un situación para la que la zona debe estar preparada y sencillamente, a día de hoy, no lo está. La cuestión hotelera permanece siendo una desventaja enorme un verano más, pese a que cada vez se habla con mayor insistencia y con plazos más cercanos de proyectos como

los del desarrollo de Los Pinos o quién sabe si algún plan de los nuevos vecinos (La Zagaleta) o la propia entidad matriz (Sotogrande S.A.), ésta última menos verosímil, sobre una gran plaza hotelera. Es la joya de la corona que sin duda le falta a Sotogrande. Si bien, de manera tradicional, cuenta con sus espacios hoteleros y estancias disponibles, sigue siendo una demanda para el crecimiento y desarrollo de la zona, venga de dónde venga y la promueva quién la promueva, contar un con gran hotel de referencia, con gran capacidad de hospedaje, y a ser posible con los más altos niveles de calidad, excelencia y lujo. Sin duda, el gran paso a dar en los próximos años. Sería un puntal de relevancia en la zona para dotar de mayores servicios y facilidades para

Undoubtedly, this is the big step to take over the coming years. It would provide signiﬁcant support

for the area to offer better facilities and services for the arrival of even more tourists, of a high level, something which clearly results in a significant and important influence on the economy and pockets in practically the entire area. Also, it would open up the spectrum to new opportunities and routes for business such as holding large congresses, fairs and meetings of the highest level; a situation similar to what happens in destinations with similar characteristics and where Sotogrande does not seem so competitive in reality. It would simply consist in making another quality leap in order to further strengthen this destination. Mucho ruido y pocas nueces en la cuestión hotelera Mucho más que a menudo se recurre en esta peculiar zona para presumir, y en buena medida porque es pertinente, de que vivimos y gozamos de un enclave único y de un destino privilegiado y exclusivo en el sur de Europa. Se nos da fantásticamente bien decir (que no sumar, ya eso es otro ✑ José Luis García cantar) que Sotogrande Editor/Director cuenta con todos los valojlgarcia@grupohcp.com res y atractivos necesarios para ser un referente a nivel continental en todos los sentidos: principalmente por las entidades que lo componen y la importante y a la vez discreta influencia de todo lo que aquí ocurre, acontece o se reúne. Hasta ahí, nada de ello es faltar a la verdad, pero igual de cierto es decir que aún se muestran carencias destacadas para emerger y sacar el pecho del que tanto hablamos sobre disponer de una amplia gama de servicios de primerísimo nivel y orden. Especialmente, en el tema

hotelero de “los cinco estrellas Gran Lujo” es en el que se ve una de las mayores áreas estancadas en el desarrollo y crecimiento de Sotogrande. Desde hace prácticamente más de una década, la zona cuenta con los mismas plazas y ofertas a nivel de hoteles, esperando desde hace años la llegada de un ambicioso proyecto que desembarque con un gran resort, a la altura de la zona, capaz de cubrir la demanda exigente de camas (más aún en las gustosas fechas que atravesamos) y que amplíe la oferta de este lugar como sede de importantes congresos y eventos. Mucho se ha escuchado sobre diversos planes y proyectos de los que nos hemos hecho eco y publicado en estas páginas: grandes previsiones para el desarrollo de la zona de Los Pinos, una nueva apuesta de la empresa matriz o quizás alguien de fuera que llegue y apueste por este sector con un amplio margen de crecimiento. Sea cual sea el caso, la conclusión es que un verano más Sotogrande presenta un déficit de plazas hoteleras de alto nivel que sin duda repercute (respecto a lo que se deja de beneficiar a la zona), ya que cuenta, más o menos, con lo de siempre, además de lo tradicional de las villas y apartamentos de alquiler. Al margen de esta reflexión, que no es la primera sobre la temática, el verano avanza forzosamente con la celebración de sus eventos más tradicionales y con el crecimiento exponencial en la población flotante estival. De nuevo las mismas incógnitas sobre aparcamiento, servicios, inversión de las administraciones y demás a la que este

año se suma una especialmente curiosa; el preocupante y repetitivo fallo que en los últimos meses se da en el suministros eléctrico. Una cuestión a revisar minuciosamente y que inequívocamente lleva a cuestionar si las instalaciones actuales están preparadas para soportar el volumen de demanda energética de estas fechas. Seguiremos vigilantes en este asunto e indagaremos los verdaderos motivos por tan defenestrante prestación de servicios por parte de Endesa. Por lo demás, los preparativos para recibir a la gran afluencia comienzan a ver sus frutos, caso propio el del Mercado de Levante, que por tercer año aumenta la oferta de ocio y gastronomía. Un acierto que aplaudimos. Y a nivel general en el sector de prestación de servicios, le gritamos a los excesos de precios, donde cada año vemos con estupor como estos se disparan. Por favor, sean coherentes y justos con mas y mejor prestación de servicios y no asusten a los visitantes con notas disparatadas. Por suerte los consumidores cada vez mas revisan las cartas de precios y aun así siempre reciben sorpresas en la nota final. Un año mas le pedimos a nuestros queridos amigos de los negocios que ayuden a que todos repitan y vuelvan a este magnifico lugar que hace felices a tantos y tantos. Lots of talk but little action on hotel issue place as an important venue for congresses and events. We have heard a lot about different plans and projects and we have reported them and published them in these pages: there have been big prospects for the development of the Los Pinos area, a new commitment by the parent company or perhaps someone from outside who would come in and commitment to this sector which has a lot of room for growth. Whatever the case, the conclusion is that once again this summer Sotogrande has a deficit of high level hotel beds which undoubtedly has an impact (in terms of what the area misses out on), as it more or less has what it has always had, in addition to the traditional villas and rental apartments. Aside from this reflection, which is not the first on the issue, summer is progressing strongly with the holding of the most traditional events and with the exponential growth of the floating population in summer. Once again, there are the same issues about parking, services, the investment of the administrations and others, and also a particularly strange one this year; the worrying and repeated fault over the last few months with the electrical supply. This is an issue to be reviewed thoroughly and it will undoubtedly lead to questions

over whether the current installations are prepared to support the demand for energy around this time. We will be keeping an eye on this issue and investigating the real reasons behind such a poor provision of services by Endesa. Otherwise, preparations to welcome the large crowds are beginning to reap rewards, such as in the case of the Mercado de Levante, which has increased its range of leisure and gastronomy for the third year. And, on a general level, we are calling out excess prices, where each year we observe in astonishment as prices shoot up. Please, be consistent and fair with more and better provision of services and do not scare visitors with crazy prices. Luckily, consumers are increasingly reviewing the prices on menus and even then, they always get surprises in the ﬁnal bill. Once again this year we ask our dear friends from businesses to help to ensure that everyone will come back and again, and return to this magniﬁcent place that makes so many people happy. More often than not, we tend to boast in this particular area, and largely because we have reason to, that we live and enjoy a unique place and a privileged and exclusive destination in the south of Europe. We really love to say (if not to add, which is another matter) that Sotogrande has all the assets and attractions needed to be a continental benchmark in every regard: mainly due to the entities that comprise it, and the significant but discreet influence of everything that takes place, happens or is organised here. To this point, this is all true, but it is also true to say that there are some notable deficiencies, for really emerging and showcasing ourselves, as we talk so much of, that we need to address in order to have an extensive range of top level and quality service. Especially, in terms of hotels, the “Grand Luxury five-star” hotel is one of the areas where Sotogrande´s development and growth has stagnant. For practically more than a decade, the area has had the same number of spaces and range in terms of hotels. For years, we have been awaiting the arrival of an ambitious project that would result in a big resort, befitting of the area, capable of covering the high demand for beds (even more so during this period) and to cover the range of this

El informe relata que la provincia presenta “graves riesgos de urbanización en la costa sin edificar”. Especifica que “las zonas no protegidas con mayor riesgo de presión urbanística están en el tramo entre Sotogrande y el norte de La Línea, sobre todo en Torreguadiaro, donde se loca-

El documento, al que ha tenido acceso este medio, resalta varios tramos “con alto peligro de urbanización futura” y entre ellos destaca el comprendido entre Sotogrande y La Línea de la Concepción, haciendo especial referencia a Torreguadiaro. El colectivo advierte que tan sólo un 27% del litoral nacional se encuentra protegido y que las costas mediterráneas son las más “destruidas y con el litoral más urbanizado”, haciendo especial

A medida que avanzan las fechas claves del verano y con el importante incremento de aﬂuencia de público al área costera del Valle del Guadiaro, los colapsos de tráﬁco y atascos en la A-7 (dirección Málaga) para tomar la salida a Torreguadiaro, se multiplican. Varias son las propuestas sugeridas pero la realidad es que el problema sigue encima de la mesa un verano más.

Como era previsible y ya se esperaba desde hace algunas semanas, a medida que se iba minimizando la salida natural al mar, volvió a colmatarse la desembocadura del río Guadiaro (al momento de cierre de esta edición se encuentra mínimamente abierto por una lengua para el intercambio de aguas). Un problema cíclico y que cada año vuelve a repetirse en el litoral con su pertinente ‘tira y aﬂoja’ entre la subdelegación del Gobierno en Cádiz y el Ayuntamiento de San Roque sobre las competencias y responsabilidades en su apertura. Un desacuerdo que se repite

y que acabó con la actuación voluntaria de vecinos y activistas del grupo Verdermar Ecologistas en Acción realizando una apertura rudimentaria y manual de la bocana. Existen precedentes muy cercanos sobre los modelos de actuación. En primer lugar resaltar el excelente estado registrado, pese a la ausencia de lluvias en primavera (al mermar las precipitaciones desciende el caudal y fuerza del río que abre de manera natural su salida al mar, dejando así crecer la sedimentación que trae la marea). Los trabajos efectuados de aporte de arena en las pla-

yas de Sotogrande y Guadalquitón permitieron ver una entrada de temporada sin problemas. Antonio Muñoz, subdelegado provincial del Gobierno Estatal, apuntó que no se trata de un problema costero sino de carácter medioambiental y recae en manos de la Junta de Andalucía que aumentó sus competencias costeras en el año 2011. Por su parte, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, alcalde de San Roque situó su relato en el extremo opuesto. “Es un despropósito querer atribuir esa responsabilidad al Ayuntamiento cuando el pasado año nos abrió un expediente por

actuar para evitar una catástrofe natural, siendo conscientes de que no es una competencia nuestra”. En cualquiera de los casos, el riesgo que supone alargar esta delicada situación sigue aumentando y demanda una actuación inmi-

nente, más allá de quién asuma el cargo. Bien es cierto, por otro lado, que un año más se repite la colmatación del río y sigue sin estar de manera transparente la administración competente en la apertura del río.

Firstly, it is worth highlighting the excellent condition recorded, despite the absence of rain in spring (as precipitation declines so does the ﬂow and strength of the river which normally opens a natural path to the sea, thus allowing the sedimentation brought by the tide to build up). The

work carried out to add sand to Sotogrande and Guadalquitón beaches made it possible to start the season without problems. Antonio Muñoz, provincial sub-delegate from the State Government, stated that this is not a coastal problem but rather an environmental one, and that is the responsibility of the Regional Government of Andalusia, which increased its coastal responsibilities in 2011. In turn, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, mayor of San Roque claimed the complete opposite. “It is nonsense to want to attribute this responsibility to the Council when last year they opened a case on us for acting to prevent a natural catastrophe, aware that this is not our responsibility”. In any case, the risks posed by lengthening this delicate situation continue to increase and it demands immediate action, regardless of who carries out the role. On the other hand, it is true, that the obstruction of the river has occurred again this year, and there is still no transparency regarding which administration is responsible for opening the river.

La economía del doctor Pangloss

Desde que Voltaire lo creó en 1759 en Cándido, el personaje del doctor Pangloss se ha convertido en el ejemplo del optimismo infundado, el de quienes ante cualquier circunstancia afirman que vivimos en “el mejor de todos los mundos posibles”. Ahora bien, ¿tendría razón Pangloss si hablara hoy de la economía española? Ateniéndonos a los datos, el optimismo tiene fundamento: la situación no solamente es buena, sino que es mejor que la media europea, y mejor que las previsiones, que el año pasado auguraban una desaceleración del crecimiento, que no se ha producido. Según el Banco de España, “el ritmo de avance de la actividad se ha intensificado a lo largo de la primera mitad del año. Concretamente, se estima que el PIB ha-

bría crecido un 0,9 % en el segundo trimestre, una décima más que en el primero y dos más que en el último de 2016”. El desempleo sigue bajando. Y dos actividades que seguimos siempre con interés en Sotogrande, el turismo y el sector inmobiliario, continúan al alza. En un contexto de baja inflación y de tipos de interés aún moderados, la economía europea y mundial brindan señales claramente positivas, como se ve en España en el sector exterior, que registra un gran dinamismo, y no solo en el ramo turístico. La economista María Jesús Fernández Sánchez, de Funcas, ha recordado que “nuestras exportaciones de bienes han crecido notablemente por encima del crecimiento del comercio mundial”. Pero en economía, como en casi todo lo demás, si solo vemos cosas buenas, es

que no estamos prestando la atención suficiente. Dejando de lado los riesgos de carácter geopolítico, y limitándonos sólo al campo económico, el panorama idílico presenta varios nubarrones, empezando por la política monetaria, a corto plazo, porque nos esperan subidas de tipos de interés en Europa y América, y a medio plazo, porque las reformas en el sector financiero no han resuelto realmente la capacidad del sistema de generar nuevas crisis. La política fiscal, asimismo, mantiene sus contradicciones y su notable rigidez a la hora de rebajar el gasto público y los impuestos. Y la política microeconómica no ha dado grandes pasos para abrir y flexibilizar más nuestros mercados. Como se recordará, al final de Cándido ni el propio doctor Pangloss conserva su ilimitado optimismo.

The economy of Dr Pangloss Ever since Voltaire created him in 1759 in Candide, the character of Dr Pangloss has become an example of unfounded optimism, the type of person who when facing any situation states that “we live in the best of all possible worlds”. However, would Pangloss be right if he were now talking about the Spanish economy? The figures provide grounds for optimism: the situation is not only good, rather it is better than the European average, and better than the forecasts. Last year they pointed to a slowing of growth, and this has not occurred. According to the Bank of Spain, “the pace of the economy has progressed at has intensified throughout the first half of the year. Specifically, it is estimated that GDP has grown by 0.9% in the second quarter, a tenth

more than in the first quarter and two tenths more than in the last quarter of 2016”. Unemployment continues to fall. Also, two activities that we always follow with interest in Sotogrande, tourism and the property sector, continue to rise. Within a context of low inflation, and interest rates that are still moderate, the European and world economies offer clearly positive signs, as can be seen in Spain in the external sector, which shows great dynamism, and not only in the tourism industry. The economist María Jesús Fernández Sánchez, from Funcas, reminded people that “our exports of goods have grown significantly above the growth rate of world trade”. However, in economics, as in almost everything else, if we only see the positive side, then we are not paying

close enough attention. Setting aside risks of a geopolitical nature, and limiting ourselves only to economic matters, there are several storm clouds hanging over the idyllic scenario, beginning with monetary policy in the short term, as interest rates rises await in Europe and America, and in the medium term, because reforms in the ﬁnancial sector have not really solved the system’s capacity to generate new crises. The tax policy, likewise, retains its contradictions and notable rigidity when it comes to lowering public spending and taxes. And the micro-economic policy has not taken great steps forward to open up and make our markets more ﬂexible. As you will remember, at the end of Candide not even Dr Pangloss maintains his endless optimism.

En un ambiente festivo y veraniego, se inauguró de manera oﬁcial el Mercado de Levante, ubicado en la Ribera del Marlin, en La Marina. El evento se celebró en el espacio habilitado por La Reserva Club Champagne & Cocktail Lounge. El cóctel de inauguración reunió a numerosas personalidades vinculadas a Sotogrande, así como representantes de la corporación municipal. En el evento contó con la música en directo del saxofonista Demian Arroyo y las creaciones de DJ Juanje Rodríguez, además, durante toda la inauguración se dispuso de un cuidado servicio de degustaciones culinarias, bebidas y cocktails para todos los gustos.

Este año se celebra el tercer aniversario del Mercado de Levante, que continúa renovándose y mejorando para proporcionar una mayor oferta de ocio y restauración. El Mercado de Levante es una de las apuestas de ocio más atractivas de Sotogrande, tanto para vecinos como para turistas. En él, se pueden comprar productos de artesanía, ropa o complementos, además de artículos para el hogar, en un entorno tan especial como el Puerto de Sotogrande. Además, se encuentran numerosos puestos de comida, conocidos como food trucks, donde se puede tomar algo o comer. Este año hay un total de siete food trucks especializados

en diferentes tipos de cocina. En total, la oferta de restauración trata diferentes elaboraciones, desde pescado, ensaladas, sushi y mariscos hasta cocina italiana, hamburguesas o tapas españolas. Supercor, uno de los establecimientos comerciales de referencia en Sotogrande, acogió el ronqueo (despiece) de un atún en directo ante la presencia de clientes y muchos curiosos, amantes de la gastronomía, atraídos por este tipo de eventos cada vez más demandados y seguidos. Una fantástica cita, de la mano de la firma Petaca Chico, que tendrá una nueva edición el próximo 28 de julio, en el mismo enclave, a partir de las 12:00 horas. El ejemplar, un atún de nada menos que 186 kgs. de peso, fue

capturado días antes del despiece en las playas de Barbate. El atún es uno de las mayores y más exquisitos tesoros del mar que bañan las costas gaditanas. Todo un éxito el ronqueo, ejecutado por experimentados operarios de la empresa colaboradora, y que despejó las dudas de los asistentes sobre las diferentes partes y piezas de un atún, así como de la tradicional técnica del propio ronqueo. El próximo 28 de julio, una nueva oportunidad de disfrutar de un despiece de atún en directo en Supercor.

Supercor, venue for a live tuna preparation Establishment announces another cutting on 28 July Supercor, one of the leading commercial establishments in Sotogrande, hosted a live tuna cutting in front of clients and many curious onlookers and lovers of gastronomy, attracted by these

types of events that are increasingly requested and followed. It was a fantastic event, alongside the company Petaca Chico, and a new edition will be held on 28 July, in the same location, at midday.

The specimen, a tuna weighing no less than 186 kg, was captured off the shores of Barbate beaches days before the cutting. Tuna is one of the greatest and most exquisite treasures found in the sea that ba-

thes the coast of Cadiz. The cutting was a real success, carried out by experienced operators from the collaborating company, and it clarified the doubts of those attending in relation to the

different parts and pieces of a tuna fish, along with the traditional technique of the cutting itself. On 28 July, there will be a new opportunity to enjoy a live tuna cutting at Supercor.

La primera ‘cosecha’ de datos registrados en relación al volumen de ocupación en la zona de Sotogrande y el Valle del Guadiaro marcan unos índices positivos, tomados con cautela, pero que aún guardan un margen de mejora cara a las próximas semanas (principalmente entre el mes ubicado entre la última quincena de julio y la primera de agosto que concentra de manera especial toda la intensidad de actividades en

el área). Los registros reflejan que a nivel de llegada de turistas los datos son buenos y que con la estimación y peticiones de reservas formuladas cuenta con un amplio margen de mejora que sitúe en las fechas claves casi la ocupación pleno, principalmente en fines de semana. A niveles generales, la ocupación hotelera se encuentra situada en un 70/75% aproximadamente, datos más que beneficiosos para pensar en

un verano de récords a medida que se alcance el tramo del calendario más de mandando. Tener en cuenta en este sentido que tomando sólo los fines de semana (añadiendo además los días de entrada y salida), el volumen de estancias llegaría prácticamente a cifras superiores al 85% en casi todos los casos. Sin duda, la tradición de uno de los destinos predilectos para el turismo nacional como es Sotogrande con-

vierte en española la procedencia de una mayoría cualificada de los ‘ilustres visitantes’ (como gusta llamar en este periódico), también durante este temporada. Aunque llama la atención también el importante volumen de británicos que visitan Sotogrande estos días. Claro está, que la intensa y atractiva apuesta de toda la zona por presentarse como uno de los mejores destinos vinculados al sol, playa, deporte de alto nivel, ocio,

gastronomía y entretenimiento marcan una imagen sólida del entorno y que unido a su estilo de vida y única agenda social destaca por encima de otros destinos de similares características. El valor de contar con lugares y puntos de encuentro para toda la familia es otro de sus grandes atractivos en su imagen exterior. Comenzar por el corazón del Puerto Deportivo de Sotogrande. El Hotel Club Marítimo Sotogrande, prácticamente desde que inaugurase su temporada poco antes de Semana Santa, lleva todo el ejercicio marcando registros superiores a los del pasado año. Sitúa su volumen de ocupación durante el mes de julio por encima del 80/85% de habitaciones (habría que tener en cuenta con relación a otros puntos hoteleros su limitado aforo). Unos datos que mejora los de cursos anteriores y que según la previsión de reservas hasta el momento superará a nivel medio estos datos durante el próximo agosto. Cita también la plena ocupación durante los fines de semana y la mayor presencia de españoles respecto a otras procedencias aunque la británica es la segunda más frecuente. Por su parte, el Hotel Almenara se mantiene un año más como la gran plaza hotelera de la zona, por número de camas disponibles. Con datos en mano, el nivel medio de ocupación hasta el momento de la temporada se encuentra cercano al

65%, rozando en algunos momentos los dos extremos (tanto el 60 como el 70 de valor porcentual). Pero de igual modo destaca su importante crecimiento exponencial en fines de semana y puentes, así como el apoyo del campo de golf, uno de los grandes atractivos y animadores del enclave. animan en buena medida la temporada a visitantes de zonas cercanas. Resaltar un amplia mayoría de turistas nacionales como suele ser habitual en campañas estivales. De la mano aunque con unos datos algo por debajo, si acaso 3 ó 4 puntos solamente, se encuentra la ocupación del clásico Hotel Sotogrande. Con cifras, hasta el momento, más

cercanas al 60/65% de estancias medias y con una buena perspectiva para el resto del curso turístico. A un paso de Sotogrande se encuentra también San Roque Suites, sumergido en el corazón de San Roque Club y junto al club de golf. Presenta unos datos positivos también respecto a años anteriores y que rozan el 70/75% de su capacidad en

camas. No destaca especialmente, este año, la vinculación al golf de los visitantes, en su mayoría de perfil nacional. El volumen de reservas para las próximas semanas también presenta un carácter de mejora entre el 5 y 10%. En el resto de la zona, puntos de referencia en el sector hotelero más local como Hotel Patricia, Las Camelias o el volumen de alquiler de viviendas de temporada también registran unos datos altísimos y con grandes perspectivas para el mes de agosto. Un año más, los alquileres de temporada se convierte en uno de los grandes animadores del sector inmobiliario en estas fechas. Sumar a estas plazas, puntos como el Hotel Alcaidesa, en la urbanización vecina con unos altísimos datos de ocupación (prácticamente plena ocupación en la temporada) también durante toda la campaña estival. También, una plaza de estreno esta temporada como el Albayt Nueva Alcaidesa Holiday & Golf Aparments, con apartamentos de 1 y 2 habitaciones, también con unos magníficos datos de ocupación, cercanos al completo en fechas claves. En definitiva, la temporada a nivel turística no llega extraordinariamente lanzada durante los primeros compases de julio aunque presenta unos datos optimistas para alcanzar unas cifras de récord durante las próximas semanas.

Summer season gets underway with good tourism figures although there is room for growth • • • •

The average level of stays is close to 70% and reaching almost full occupancy at weekends. The sector, in terms of bookings, is convinced that the figures will shoot up as August approaches. National visitors continue to be the most loyal tourists in summer campaigns. The attractive range of beaches, sport and leisure options, are the big lures.

The first “harvest” of data recorded in relation to the occupancy level in the Sotogrande and Valle del Guadiaro show positive figures, to be viewed with caution, but that still leave room for improvement ahead of the coming weeks (mainly between the month located between the last fortnight of July and the first of August that especially concentrates all the intensity of activities in the area). The figures record that in terms of the arrival of tourists, the data is good, and with the estimations and booking requests made, there is lots of room for improvement that puts occupancy at almost one hundred percent at the key dates, mainly at weekends. On a general level, hotel occupancy is at approximately 70/75%, data that is very beneficial in terms of imagining a summer of records as the most highly sought-after period of the year approaches. It is worth bearing in mind that, taking only weekends into account (also adding the arrival and departure days), the level of stays would practically reach figures higher than 85% in almost all cases. Undoubtedly, the tradition of one of the preferred destinations for national tourism, Sotogrande, means that the qualified majority of “illustrious visitors” (as this newspaper likes to call them) during this season are from Spain. However, the significant number of British citizens visiting Sotogrande at the moment is also striking. It is clear that the intense and appealing commitment of the en-

tire area to present itself as one of the best destinations linked to sun, sea, top level sport, leisure, gastronomy and entertainment create a strong image of the area and along with its lifestyle and unique social agenda, it stands out above other destinations with similar characteristics. The value of having places and meeting points for the entire family is another of the big attractions for the resort´s external image. Beginning in the heart of Sotogrande Marina. En esta edición de El Periódico de Sotogrande, segunda de la quincena de julio, optamos en la sección ‘La Ventana de Opinión’ por conocer de manos de los usuarios cómo ven el estado de las playas de la zona y haciendo mayor hincapié, de manera especial, en la playa de Torreguadiaro (una de las más grandes en extensión y de las que más

actividad y afluencia presenta). En ese sentido, como siempre, opiniones variadas pero en un prisma genérico se observa una cierta aceptación y aprobación por el mantenimiento, limpieza y conservación aunque también se reclama una mejora de servicios y un reparto más cómodo a lo largo de toda la playa.

“Las instalaciones de la playa en comparación con el año pasado siguen estando iguales, aunque si es cierto que en algunas zonas de la playa se han producido mejoras. Con respecto a la zona de la “Calita”, donde yo y mi familia venimos habitualmente, sigue igual. Aunque es cierto que en esta zona echamos de menos un quiosco para los niños, ya que solemos venir con lo puesto a la playa, e instalaciones tan básicas como son unos servicios. Creemos que la “Calita” donde vienen tantas familias está un poco olvidada con respecto a la “Playa Grande” que disponen de todo. En cuanto a la limpieza, es una playa que siempre suele estar muy limpia”.

“Las duchas funcionan todas, por lo menos las que usamos nosotros. Lo que veo peor es el acceso a la zona del Patricia. Para bajar el callejón son escalones, y yo también que voy con el carro y los bebés, pues cuesta mucho más. Eso es lo que veo peor, el acceso. Si hubieran baños mucho mejor. Las playas sí que están limpias, igual que el año pasado, están bastante cuidadas; cuando venimos por la mañana, se nota que han pasado las máquinas limpiando todo”.

El X Bazar de la India vuelve a Sotogrande el 10 de agosto en El Octógono 1 M. Gil

El Bazar de la India vuelve, un año más, a su puntual cita en Sotogrande. Su tradicional mercadillo veraniego se ha convertido en uno de los eventos más tradicionales del verano. El jueves 10 de agosto, en el Club El Octógono de Sotogrande, tendrá lugar la X edición de este bazar organizado por la Fundación Esperanza y Alegría para recaudar fondos para financiar sus proyectos en la India y en España. A lo largo de todo el día, se podrán adquirir en los distintos puestos artículos de artesanía y decoración, objetos de oro, plata y bronce, ropa, bolsos, joyas, bisutería, y todo tipo de

complementos típicos de la India. Muchos de estos productos están, precisamente, elaborados en los talleres que la Fundación financia en India para apoyar a las mujeres y promover la justicia e igualdad en un mundo, de manera tradicional, asociado a la escala de castas y con acentuadas diferencias de género. También tendrá lugar una rifa regalos donados por empresas y colaboradores que, de esta manera, ayudan a la fundación. There will also be a prize raffle with gifts donated by companies and collaborators helping the foundation in this way. Among the items to be raffled are books, cosmetic products and Spanish Golf Foundation hats. The Hope and Joy Foundation

was created in 2001. It is characterised by its commitment to the most impoverished and vulnerable people, regardless of their origins, ethnicity, culture or gender. Its aim is to manage to transform poverty into self-sufficiency, promoting sustainable development and extending opportunities for the people that benefit from our projects. Primeros problemas del acceso, en la playa de Torreguadiaro El arcén junto a la zona de salida carece de señales que prohíban estacionar, lo que provoca un colapso de vehículos en los días de mayor afluencia 1 Manuel Gil

Hace tan sólo unas semanas que se puso en funcionamiento el nuevo cruce en la, hasta ahora, salida tradicional del aparcamiento de la playa de Torreguadiaro. En principio, una medida bien acogida por la gran mayoría de residentes y habituales de la zona (ya que no es necesario acotar en un solo punto la entrada al recinto de estacionamiento y libera y agiliza bastante la circulación), aunque con los primeros días de masiva afluencia de usuarios a la playa, en fechas claves como son estos días de temporada alta en Torreguadiaro, el nuevo sistema presenta algunas deficiencias. Para poner en antecedentes del enclave, desde hace algunas semanas, operarios municipales llevaron a cabo la obra que permitió convertir la que era la tradicional salida del aparcamiento en una de doble sentido y así presentar

la entrada de vehículos desde la zona más cercana al bulevar de la Avenida Mar del Sur, sin necesidad que tener que bajar al túnel y acceder únicamente desde la zona de entrada del Puerto Deportivo de Sotogrande.

Con el incremento de visitantes y por lo tanto un exponencial crecimiento de vehículos que aparcar en la zona, en los últimos días hemos podido comprobar casos como el estacionamiento permanente en el carril de salida, ocupando la estrecha calzada y pro-

vocando cierto colapso entre los mismos estacionados con los que pretenden salir. Una cuestión que fácilmente se podría señalizar y evitar (además de con vigilancia), con las señalizaciones pertinente que prohíban aparcar en ese arcén. Más sencillo aún, pintando de amarillo el bordillo y sancionando a aquellos vehículos que estacionen en dicho arcén. Por otro lado, el cruce, pese a contar con una señalización vertical (con dos discos de ‘Ceda el paso’) y una más pintada sobre la calzada, a medida que se acercan los conductores en ambos sentidos no deja de estar meridianamente claro qué carriles son de salida y entrada más allá del sentido común y arbitrariedad del conductor. En definitiva, un paso adelante para mayor comodidad en la circulación pero que precisa algunos ajustes de señalización y vigilancia.

Easier still, they could paint the curb yellow and impose sanctions on those that park on that hard shoulder. On the other hand, despite the fact that the junction has vertical signage (with two “Give Way”

signs) and another painted on the road, as drivers approach in both directions, it is still not crystal clear which lanes are for exiting and entering, other than with the driver´s using their own common sense and making an arbitrary judgement. Ultimately, this is a step forward for greater traffic convenience, but some signage adjustments and surveillance is required.

Arcgisa informa: Arcgisa refuerza su compromiso por un desarrollo compatible con el respeto al Medio Ambiente 1 Redacción

Arcgisa, la empresa pública comarcal encargada de la prestación de los servicios de abastecimiento de agua y tratamiento de residuos en el municipio de San Roque, tiene entre sus labores encomendadas un uso eficiente y responsable de los recursos naturales y una especial atención al desarrollo sostenible y respetuoso con nuestro entorno. Esta máxima aplica de forma transversal en todos los departamentos y áreas de explotación de Arcgisa, aunque es especialmente apreciable en los de Aguas y Residuos, los que generan una mayor actividad. En este sentido, prácticamente todos los indicadores relacionados con una producción respetuosa con el Medio Ambiente vieron mejoradas sus cifras a lo largo del año 2016, tal como se recoge en la Memoria Anual de Arcgisa, lo que habla tanto de una mejora en la calidad del servicio prestado como de una cada vez mayor concienciación e implicación ciudadana. Depuración: cada vez más cerca del 100% El área de Aguas de Arcgisa, destinada a la gestión del ciclo integral del agua, dedica un esfuerzo particular en conseguir que la huella

residuales (EDARs) situadas en toda la comarca, unas instalaciones que a lo largo de 2016 consiguieron depurar el 94.4% de las aguas residuales generadas por los municipios en los que Arcgisa presta servicio. Con todo ello, la red de EDARs de Arcgisa generó el pasado año un total de 1400 toneladas de lo-

dos y fangos. El 100% de esta producción se destinó a uso agrícola, superando los correspondientes controles medioambientales. Además, Arcgisa lleva a cabo un exhaustivo plan de control preventivo de vertidos a cauces naturales y de aguas residuales, principalmente de origen industrial, que requieran de un tratamiento

138.000 toneladas de residuos tratados A lo largo del año 2016 el Campo de Gibraltar generó 138.983 toneladas de residuos urbanos. Sin embargo, la cantidad de residuos tratados en la planta de recuperación y compostaje situada en el Complejo Medioambiental Sur de Europa fue mucho mayor (213.351 toneladas) debido a que Arcgisa también trata los residuos generados por empresas privadas, la Ciudad Autónoma de Ceuta y Gibraltar. Gracias al trabajo realizado en esta planta se consiguieron recuperar 14.502 toneladas de subproductos, entre ellos compost, pet, cartón y férrico-botes. Por lo que respecta a la planta de clasificación de envases ligeros, se contabilizó la entrada de 2.244 toneladas de producto, de los que se pudieron recuperar un total de 1.603 toneladas de subproductos como el pet, el acero, el film o el pead.

Marina García: “La Mancomunidad y Arcgisa están firmemente comprometidas con la educación medioambiental” Arcgisa cuenta con un servicio de divulgación ambiental, el Aula de Educación Medioambiental, que desarrolla actuaciones de índole educativa tanto en su sede, el Complejo Medioambiental Sur de Europa, como en centros escolares, depuradoras y puntos limpios. Visitas guiadas, charlas explicativas, vídeos, reparto de material promocional y otras actividades de animación conforman su catálogo de servicios. A lo largo de 2016 2.636 campogibraltareños, principalmente escolares, participaron en alguna de las 70 acciones desarrolladas.

Estas acciones se suman a las campañas organizadas en colaboración con organismos como Ecoembes o Ecovidrio para el fomento de la separación en origen y el reciclado de residuos tanto por parte del ciudadano de a pie como de empresas y gremios.

En este sentido, la vicepresidenta de la Mancomunidad del Campo de Gibraltar responsable del área de Educación, Marina García, recuerda el impulso que su delegación ofrece a este tipo de acciones. “Tanto la Mancomunidad como Arcgisa están firmemente comprometidas con la educación medioambiental y la difusión de unos valores de respeto, compromiso y sostenibilidad con respecto a nuestro entorno, puesto que este es el legado que vamos a dejar a las generaciones futuras”, manifestó García.

Recogida selectiva: los sanroqueños, cada vez más comprometidos Cada año son más los ciudadanos del término municipal de San Roque concienciados del beneficio que supone para el Medio Ambiente la adopción de pequeños gestos y rutinas domésticas, como la separación en origen de residuos para facilitar su posterior reciclado. Como consecuencia de ello, prácticamente todas las fracciones de la recogida selectiva registraron en 2016 un incremento en sus números. Arcgisa, a través de acuerdos con entidades como Ecoembes o Ecovidrio, presta el servicio de recogida de envases ligeros, papel-cartón, vidrio, pilas, aceite vegetal usado y residuos electrónicos en todo el Campo de Gibraltar, así como el tratamiento de algunos de ellos en el Complejo Medioambiental Sur de Europa. En el municipio de San Roque, el servicio de recogida de envases ligeros (contenedor amarillo) registró una producción total de 293.671 kilos recogidos. En cuanto a la fracción de papel-cartón (contenedor azul), se registró una producción de 289.525 kilos. Mientras tanto, el servicio comarcal de recogida de envases de vidrio (contenedor iglú verde) registró una producción de 253.575 kilos recogidos. Y, en lo que respecta a la recogida de pilas usadas (alcalinas, salinas y de botón), se registraron un total de 807 kilos. La recogida de aparatos eléctricos y electrónicos alcanzó los 48.840 kilos al tiempo que el apartado de recogida de aceite vegetal usado cerró el año 2016 con 4.927 kilos recogidos.

mismo tiempo, el sistema facilita a los operarios ayudas dinámicas a la conducción en tiempo real, emitiendo señales sonoras e indicaciones luminosas ante los excesos que los conductores pudiesen cometer por velocidad o ralentí excesivos, exceso de revoluciones por minuto, aceleraciones o frenadas bruscas. CO2 emissions. The solution, called Mix Telematics, consists in the installation of electronic equipment that monitors the journeys made by the trucks through GPS, allowing you to optimize routes and, with this, make fuel savings.

At the same time, the system makes it easier for operators to aid driving dynamics in real time, emitting audible signals and bright indicators for excessive speed or idling, excessive revolutions per minute, acceleration or sudden braking.

With this, you get a smoother driving resulting in decreased fuel consumption and emissions and, in the medium term, a reduction in maintenance costs by working the machinery within more favourable limits. The system was initially in-

stalled in the 10 vehicles of the waste collection service in La Linea de la Concepcion. Once their effectiveness was verified, it was installed in 35 more trucks, totalling all the 45 vehicles that make up ARCGISA’s fleet.

Durante los últimos días, vecinos y residentes de Torreguadiaro cuestionaron el reparto de servicios disponibles y habilitados en la playa de Torreguadiaro, concretamente a dos cuestiones referentes a la limpieza y la ubicación de las duchas. Para vecinos de la zona y visitantes de larga trayectoria llama la atención la ausencia de la habi-

tual ducha que se apostaba a la altura del Hotel Patricia, aproximadamente, y que este año no se encuentra instalada. Lo que deja una sustancial separación entre la que se dispone en los bajos de las dos torres y la siguiente (tramos en el que se concentran hasta tres duchas en un corto intervalo de playa). Una cuestión de fácil solución ya que permanece

Over the last few days, locals and residents in Torreguadiaro have questioned the distribution of available services that have been implemented on Torreguadiaro beach, speciﬁcally for two matters relating to cleaning and the location of the showers. For residents in the area and visitors that have been coming for years, the absence of the usual

shower ﬁtted around the area of Hotel Patricia, is very striking, and this year it has not been installed. This leaves a substantial distance between the one located in the lower area of the two towers and the following one (stretches where three showers are concentrated together in a short area of the beach). This is a matter that is easy to solve as the installation of

previous years remains. On the other hand, on the same ﬁnal stretch of Torreguadiaro beach (under the towers), a call has been made for more cleaning by the teams and brigades. Torreguadiaro disfruta de sus Fiestas de la Virgen del Carmen Torreguadiaro disfrutó un julio más de sus Fiestas en Honor a la Virgen del Carmen, Patrona de los marineros. La feria comenzó con el acto de coronación, en la caseta municipal, apertura de los diferentes actos que rodean las fiestas (cena de mayores, jornada de actividades infantiles, etc.). El domingo, 16 de julio, puso el broche con la tradicional procesión marinera de la Virgen del Carmen, seguida de la solemne misa. Acto después, la ‘sardinada’ popular y los fuegos artificiales pusieron el broche de oro a una nueva edición de las Fiestas del Carmen de Torreguadiaro.

Colegio San José Gran acogida de los cursos de verano 1 Redacción

Centenares de niños de diferentes nacionalidades están disfrutando durante el mes de julio de los cursos de verano organizados por el colegio San José, tanto en la modalidad de campamento, como en los cursos y programas de idiomas en el extranjero. Los participantes proceden de un amplio radio geográfico que abarca desde Marbella hasta La Línea de la Concepción, siendo numeroso el número de los que, procedentes de otros puntos, disfrutan de nuestra zona en vacaciones. En el condado de Berkshire en Inglaterra un grupo de estudiantes realiza un curso intensivo de inglés en el que, además de mejorar la fluidez y el conocimiento de este idioma, se están acercando a

la cultura y costumbres del país. Otro numeroso grupo ha participado en el Cherokee Camp, un divertido campamento de inglés y aventuras que ha tenido lugar en la Sierra de Alhama y Almijara, con un amplio programa de actividades en la naturaleza y una temática basada en las antiguas tribus pobladoras del Oeste Americano. Durante todo el mes de julio tienen lugar otros cursos de verano tanto en la sede de Guadalmina como en la de Estepona: Mutiactividad, Robótica, Inglés y Deporte, Curso Infantil y Campus Chelsea. En Multiactividad se combina el inglés con una amplia variedad de actividades y de juegos deportivos: tenis, pádel, fútbol, natación,

rocódromo, juegos acuáticos, ciclismo, competiciones, excursiones... El curso de Robótica, que incluye además otros contenidos diarios como natación, inglés y diferentes deportes, permite a los participantes desarrollar la creatividad, la intuición, la capacidad de análisis, la lógica y las habilidades de investigación y resolución de problemas. En Inglés y Deportes se combina la práctica de un deporte favorito (tenis, pádel, golf, vela o fútbol) con clases de inglés y natación. El Curso Infantil ofrece a los más pequeños actividades como natación, teatro, lectoescritura, juegos educativos, psicomotricidad y manualidades, utilizando el inglés como

lengua vehicular. Y en Campus Chelsea aprenderán a jugar al fútbol de la mano de entrenadores procedentes de la cantera del Club. Los cursos se dirigen a niños de entre 3 y 16 años. En todos ellos los participantes están permanentemente acompañados por profesores bilingües y nativos que pertenecen al equipo docente del colegio. Se pueden realizar por

quincenas o durante el mes completo y finalizan el 31 de julio. Recientemente se ha aprobado en el Congreso de los Diputados la reforma de la Ley de Emprendedores que tras pasar por el Senado y de vuelta al Congreso para su aprobación definitiva, incluirá importantes novedades para los trabajadores por cuenta propia. A continuación se esbozan algunas de estas medidas, históricamente reclamadas por los trabajadores autónomos, y que tras el apoyo recibido en el hemiciclo serán aprobadas en breve. Menos cargas económicas y administrativas Los autónomos podrán cambiar hasta cuatro veces al año su base de cotización para ade-

cuarla mejor a los ingresos. Únicamente pagarán por los periodos efectivamente trabajados. (3 altas y 3 bajas al año permitidas). Reducción a la mitad de los recargos por retraso en el primer mes y evolución base societarios se desvincula de SMI. able to change their taxation base up to four times a year in order to better adapt it to their income. They will solely pay for the periods that they have indeed worked. (3 registrations and de‐registrations allowed per year). Fifty‐percent reduction of the surcharges for delays in the first month and base evolution of corporates is not connected to the Minimum Inter‐Professional Salary A subcommittee will study the concept of regularity and part‐ time contributions Boost for the flat rate of 50 Euros Its period of validity has been

Durante la primera quincena de agosto, el Santa María Polo Club va a acoger cuatro sensacionales conciertos en el Sunset Valley Festival. El cartel lo componen artistas de la talla de John Newman, Hombres G, Ara Malikian y Al McKay′s Earth, Wind & Fire Experience. Esta será la primera edición del festival, que arranca con fuerza en el mes de mayor actividad de Sotogrande. Los conciertos empezarán al atardecer, y se desarrollarán en el ambiente exclusivo de un festival ′boutique′, con un aforo de 4.000 personas. La primera actuación será el día 3 de agosto, y correrá a cargo de la estrella británica John Newman, que compone y produce su propia música. Su música rompedora, mezcla de pop, soul

y electrónica, será la encargada de abrir el festival. La siguiente cita será el 5 de agosto. El grupo español Hombres G, con su poprock, hará cantar al público sus grandes y reconocidos éxitos. El día 12 de agosto habrá una actuación más exclusiva —con un afo-

ro reducido a 1.500 personas—, lo que será el show más especial de la gira que está realizando Ara Malikian, violinista español de origen libanés y ascendencia armenia. El cierre del festival lo hará Al McKay’s Earth, Wind & Fire Experience, que convertirá su actuación en una fiesta que transportará a los asistentes a los años 70, la época dorada de la música americana. La excelencia y un servicio a la altura de los más exigentes estándares de calidad no es una cuestión que surge por casualidad o que aparece sin planificación. Sencillamente (algo que no es cuestión simple), la excelencia es el resultado de una dedicada planificación y de un sustancial proceso formativo en la gestión de clubes deportivos y sociales. Sin duda, buena culpa de lo que supone el nombre Real Club Valderrama en todo el mundo recae en la entregada labor de sus profesionales, su alta formación y cualificación. En esta ocasión, conocemos los casos de Silvia Serrano (Executive Assistant & Membership Manager) y Fernando Padrón (Operations Manager), ambos han conseguido recientemente el prestigioso Certified Club Manager (CCM), la máxima certificación especializada que existe universalmente en la gestión y dirección de clubes y enti-

dades deportivas. “Se trata de la titulación de mayor prestigio que existe en este momento además no es vitalicia, te obliga a estar continuamente renovándote y actualizando los conocimientos. Es un sinónimo de garantía para un club y sus socios saber que un CCM está al frente”, explican los protagonistas. Destacar que sólo cuentan con este grado de especialización un total de tres personas en toda España y menos de cuarenta en el continente. Esta certificación la emite la prestigiosa Asociación Europea de Managers de Club (Club Managers Association of Europe – CMAE), bajo el paraguas y la supervisión de su matriz en Estados Unidos (con 90 años de trayectoria); destino altamente desarrollado en la gestión de clubes, tanto de golf como de otros deportes, con más de 1.500 directivos especializados y un modelo diferente; “Valderrama sería el modelo más americano de España”, detallan respecto a ese sentido.

La titulación les llega desde Estados Unidos, con modelo americano, a través de su sede europea y se fundamenta en un decálogo de competencias que todo director de club debe conocer; “con ese objetivo parte la preparación, todo bajo unos exigentes estándares de calidad”, afirma Fernando. “Un director, difícilmente será experto en todos los ámbitos pero sí debe dominar y tener unos conocimientos sólidos de todas las áreas de

Consiste principalmente en una formación compleja y densa, para la que es necesario superar una serie de créditos hasta completar los cinco niveles de los que consta el certificado aunque es cierto que de forma piramidal se puede ir seleccionando y segmentando la especialidad. “Fernando y yo los hemos completado todos, tanto la parte deportiva, relacionada al golf, como la de ‘Food and beverage’

[sector vinculado a la restauración]. Un club de golf no es sólo la gestión del campo”, señala Silvia. Además, para acceder al examen final no sólo es suficiente con superar los niveles de formación, “debes demostrar que tienes al menos seis años de experiencia en un puesto directivo y asistir a una serie de conferencias y cursos que amplíen tu bagaje sobre estos conocimientos”, detalla Fernando. Respecto al papel e influencia que ha supuesto formar parte del Real Club Valderrama, ambos agradecen el apoyo de la entidad en todo momento a la que reconocen ser una gran impulsora en la formación de su equipo. En ello, mucha culpa tiene Javier Reviriego, director general del club y que además forma parte de la Junta directiva de la asociación continental de managers. ”En mi caso, Javier me animó a lanzarme a por este desafío, conseguirlo ha sido todo un reto; junto a una compañera escocesa somos las únicas mujeres con esta titulación en Europa”, explica Silvia. Tanto la Junta directiva como el propio Javier tienen una firme apuesta por el desarrollo profesional y la formación, consciente de que es necesario contar con una gran preparación para alcanzar nuestros niveles de la excelencia” matiza. “En mi caso – detalla Fernando – comencé la formación sin estar aún en el club pero de igual modo, desde que me incorporé al proyecto de Valderrama, conté con todo el apoyo, por supuesto”. Ambos coinciden en que esta certificación es clave para comprender cómo controlar dis-

tintas áreas de un club, todas diferentes y relevantes. “Es fundamental para personas que vienen de otros sectores, les aporta de las herramientas de gestión claves sobre todas las parcelas: técnicas de marketing, gerencia de clubes privados, tratamiento y relaciones con los socios, restauración, spa, hotel, etc.”, afirman. Los dos sostienen que el CCM les ha cambiado la forma de entender el concepto de gerencia de un club de golf. “Ahora tengo una idea más profesional y completa: me permite desarrollar mejor mi trabajo, con más segu-

The destination is highly developed in the management of clubs, both golf and other sports, with more than 1,500 specialised managers and a unique model. “Valderrama will be the most American style model in Spain,” they say. The certification comes from the United States, with an American model, through its European headquarters and is based on

ten competencies that every club should know. “Preparation begins with this goal in mind, all under a stringent quality standards,” says Fernando. “A director is unlikely to be an expert in all areas, but they must be able to master and have solid knowledge of all areas of a club,” adds Silvia. It mainly consists of a complex and intensive training, through which you must obtain a series of credits until completing all five levels of the certificate, though its pyramid format means that you can pick and choose your specialities. “Fernando and I have completed all sections, both the sport

Much of the praise must go to Javier Reviriego, General Manager of the club and also part of the board of directors of the continental association of managers. “In my case, Javier encouraged me to throw myself into this task, and achieving it has been a real challenge. Together with a Scottish colleague, we are the only women with this certification in Europe,” says Silvia. “Both the board of directors as well as Javier himself are committed to professional growth and training. They know how necessary it is to have a great amount of preparation to reach new levels of excellence.” she notes. “In my case,” says Fernando, “I began the training before being part of the club, but even so, ever since I joined Valderrama I’ve had their full support, of course.” They both agree that this certification is key to understanding how to manage all the distinct and equally important areas of

El equipo Dr. A se proclamó campeón, frente a Equus, de la XXIV edición del Memorial Fundador D. Enrique Zobel. La ﬁnal terminó con un resultado ajustado, de 10-8 a favor de Dr. A, después de un partido equilibrado y con gran emoción. Dos tantos en los minutos ﬁnales del quinto chukker dieron la victoria a Dr. A. El conjunto ganador estuvo integrado por Dr. A Abbar, Daniel Gariador, Maxi Malacalza y Santiago Laborde. El torneo fue organizado por Santa María Polo Club, y los

partidos se disputaron de manera alternativa en la zona de Los Pinos y en las canchas de Ayala Polo Club, donde tuvo lugar la final. El torneo, de categoría de medio hándicap, se organiza en honor de Don Enrique Zobel, apasionado del polo e impulsor del primer campo de Sotogrande, conocido como ′La Playa′. For the third consecutive year, Sotogrande will host the Spanish Women´s Polo Championship at the polo pitches of Santa María Polo Club, which is also participating in the organisation of the event. The competition is taking place this weekend (21 to 23 July) and as was the case last year, it will serve as a prelude and luxury appetiser just hours before the start of the Santa María International Polo Tournament.

The classic event held its final day at facilities of Ayala Polo Club The team Dr. A was crowned champion, against Equus, at the 24th edition of the Founder Mr Enrique Zobel Memorial Tournament. The final ended with a close score line, 10-8 to Dr A, following a balanced and very exciting game. Two goals in the final minutes of the fifth chukka gave victory to Dr A. The winning

team was formed by Dr. A Abbar, Daniel Gariador, Maxi Malacalza and Santiago Laborde. The tournament was organised by Santa María Polo Club, and the games were held alternatively between the Los Pinos area and the pitches at Ayala Polo Club, where the ﬁnal took place. The tournament, played in the medium

handicap category, is organised in honour of Mr Enrique Zobel, a man who was passionate about polo and the developer of the ﬁrst pitch in Sotogrande, known as “La Playa”. Indeed, it was the Zobel family who carried out the prize giving on the ﬁnal day. There was a great atmosphere and large crowds over the entire

weekend, with very well-known faces from the resort. The fact is that this tournament is one of the classic summer events, as it is one of the big preludes of the Summer International Tournament which will be held at Santa María Polo Club. El paraecuestre busca apoyos para aterrizar en Sotogrande Un grupo de personas trata de situar Sotogrande como referencia del paraecuestre en el sur de España, donde apenas existe actividad vinculada a este deporte, que sí genera gran interés en la zona norte de la península 1 Álvaro López

Sotogrande es un enclave destacado en todo lo que se refiere al mundo del caballo. Lo vemos, sobre todo, por la práctica generalizada del polo y de la doma clásica. Sin embargo, es poco conocido el paraecuestre, es decir, la competición en la doma clásica adaptada a atletas con algún tipo de discapacidad física o sensorial. María Cruz Guillén, acompañada de David de la Iglesia González, actual campeón de España de paracuestre, está intentando conseguir que Sotogrande destaque como punto de referencia para este deporte en la zona sur de España. Actualmente, es en el norte de España donde más se desarrolla el deporte, y no existen competiciones o concursos destacados en toda la zona sur. A través de una fundación, que está en proceso de creación, tratan de

recabar apoyos y de lograr que Sotogrande, debido a la calidad de sus instalaciones y de la tradición ecuestre de la zona, sea esa deseada referencia en el sur. Este deporte cuenta con pocos apoyos. La entrenadora de David, María de la Iglesia, reivindica que los concursos sean más asequibles económicamente, ya

que cualquier competidor a nivel nacional debe trasladar equipos y material, sin que haya apenas ayudas. Por ejemplo, las matrículas para la participación en concursos y competiciones son las mismas que para la doma clásica, pero no tienen acceso a premios en metálico. De modo que buscan patrocinadores o algún tipo de

ayuda para poder asistir a concursos alejados de sus lugares de residencia. Una de las ideas que proponen es realizar exhibiciones de doma clásica adaptada en la Sotogrande. Uno de los eventos en los que esto podría encajar, según explica De la Iglesia, es en los descansos de los partidos de polo. En la zona también existen grupos de hipoterapia, que es una terapia integral en la que el caballo es un empleado como una herramienta terapéutica para ayudar a la rehabilitación de pacientes en los niveles neuromusculares, psicológicos, cognitivos o sociales. Aunque el paracuestre no tiene nada que ver con la hipoterapia, De la Iglesia considera que la práctica de la doma clásica adaptada es una oferta interesante para las personas que reciben un

tratamiento de ese tipo. Tras ese contacto con los caballos, pueden introducirse a un nivel competitivo en el paraecuestre. David de la Iglesia comenzó con unos cinco años a montar a caballo, ya que su padre consideraba que podía ser bueno para tratar o mejorar su parálisis cerebral. En 2009 empezó a desarrollarse en España la doma clásica adaptada, y como él había tenido un contacto directo con los caballos, decidió sumarse a esa aventura. A partir de ahí, ha ido cosechando diferentes éxitos. Su inquietud por lograr introducir este deporte en Sotogrande, como uno de los mayores exponentes del paraecuestre en España, es uno de los argumentos para intentar, al menos, dar a conocer la existencia de este deporte y de la calidad de los atletas que lo practican.

One of the ideas that they propose is carrying out adapted classic dressage competitions in Sotogrande. One of the events where this could be slotted in, explains De la Iglesia, is during the breaks in polo matches. The area also has riding therapy groups, this is integral therapy where

the horse is used as a therapeutic tool in order to help the recovery of patients on a neuromuscular, psychological, cognitive or social level. Although para-equestrian has nothing to do with riding therapy, De la Iglesia believes that doing adapted classical dressage is an interesting option for the people that receive this kind of treatment. Following that contact with horses, they can get an introduction to a competitive level of para-equestrian.

La Gran Final del Circuito, ya en sus manos Contamos con 14 clasificados, gracias a las pruebas en La Reserva Club y Almenara Golf, con un billete directo para la final Una de las principales novedades de esta quinta edición del Circuito de Golf Sotogrande es su nueva apuesta deportiva con un modelo de competición que premia a los campeones en cada cita del calendario regular. Como ya se venía anunciando, cada prueba emite siete billetes hacia la Gran Final (el próximo otoño en una jornada muy especial en La Reserva Club), es decir, el primer y segundo clasificado en cada categoría además del ganador Scratch, cuenta con pasaporte

directo para la cita resolutiva de este quinto circuito. Tal es el caso que a estas alturas de competición, hasta catorce elegidos cuenta ya con su plaza asegurada para la futura cita en La Reserva Club. Aquí, su homenaje hasta el momento por su buen hacer en los dos primeros desafíos del torneo; el próximo sábado, 22 julio, siguiente prueba y nada menos que en el afamado Old Course de San Roque Club. El Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande acogió, una vez más, el Torneo Audi de golf, que ya ha cumplido cuatro ediciones. En esta ocasión, el torneo se desarrolló en un ambiente deportivo excelente, con un considerable nivel entre los participantes. Además, como todo acto deportivo en Sotogrande, estuvo acompañado de momentos agradables donde se reunieron jugadores y parte de la sociedad de la zona, como el cocktail en el que se hizo la entrega

de premios. Esta edición ha contado con tres categorías. En la tercera categoría, el primer clasificado fue Pablo de Santiago Forn, y, la segunda, Christiane Edelman, ambos con 42 puntos. En la segunda categoría, el primer clasificado fue Manuel Delgado Fernández con 44 puntos y, el segundo clasificado, Tomás Saz Mayor, con 38. En la primera categoría, el primer clasificado fue José Antonio Nestares López con 41 puntos, y el segun-

do clasificado fue Juan Cervera Latin, también con 41 puntos. Además de los premios a cada una de las categorías, también se otorgó el premio scratch, a Francisco Martín Ramírez, con 40 puntos. Hubo tres premios especiales. Alfonso Aguirre Muller recibió el del drive más largo para caballeros. Por su parte, Mercedes Gómez Arbex fue la ganadora del drive más largo de señoras. El premio a la bola más cercana fue para Heike María Von Joest.

Una gran cita de golf en Sotogrande este verano y una nueva oportunidad de colaborar con una causa solidaria como es la ONG Infancia Sin Fronteras. La cita se celebra el próximo martes 15 de agosto (jornada festiva) en Almenara Golf y se presenta con el objetivo de recaudar fondos para el Programa de Salud Materno-Infantil que se encuentra desarrollando el colectivo en Matagalpa (Nicaragua). El torneo se disputa bajo la Modalidad Stableford Individual con Primera y Segunda Categoría. El precio de la inscripción al torneo es de 100 euros e incluye, además de la disputa del torneo, la asistencia al posterior cóctel benéfico (a partir de las

20:30 horas también en Almenara), con música en directo y entrega de premios y sorteo regalos. Resaltar que aquellas personas que deseen asistir al cóctel benéfico y sorteo de regalos pueden hacerlo por 40 euros y optar a los tickets de sorteo (10 euros). Real Club de Golf Sotogrande hosts 4th Audi Tournament Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande once again hosted the Audi Golf Tournament, which has now held four editions. On this occasion, the event took place in an excellent sporting atmosphere, with a considerable level of play among the participants. Also, like every sporting event in Sotogrande, it was accompanied by pleasant moments that brought together players and part of the area´s social life, as did the cock-

tail party that held the prize giving. This edition had three categories. In the third category, top place went to Pablo de Santiago Forn, and, second, Christiane Edelman, both on 42 points. A great golf event in Sotogrande this summer and a new opportunity to collaborate with a charity cause, the NGO Childhood without Borders. The event is taking place on Tuesday 15 August (holiday) at Almenara Golf and is presented with the aim of raising funds for the Mother-Child Health Program that the group is developing in Matagalpa (Nicaragua). The tournament is played under the Stableford Individual Format with a First and Second Category. The tournament registration price is 100 Euros and includes, in addition to playing the tournament, attendance at the charity cocktail
