La vela toma la palabra con la celebración, un año más, de la clásica regata Copa Sotogrande, entre el 15 y 17 de agosto. Una nueva edición de esta cita ineludible del verano en aguas de Sotogrande que copa uno de los fines de semana es-

Centro de todas las miradas Sotogrande vive en estas semanas sus días de máximo apogeo con la celebración de las grandes citas del verano. Un sinfín de eventos que llevan una etiqueta propia, indiscutible, singular y que muy pocos rincones del mundo pueden aportar en beneficio de la excelencia como es Sotogrande. Esta privilegiada zona se asocia a un servicio de máxima calidad, lujo y un estilo de proceder propio que dota de unas características únicas a cada acontecimiento y ello se traduce en difusión y proyección a gran escala. En los últimos días hemos visto celebrarse una serie de eventos de gran calado como fue la innovadora puesta de largo de Trocadero Sotogrande. De igual modo, tradicionales citas y algunas de nuevo cuño con gran acogida entre residentes y turistas, como el Bazar de la India, la novedad de la Feria del Atún, el I Raid Nocturno Hípico de la Luna Llena, el Día de la Tapa, las ferias de la zona, torneos de golf y por supuesto, que comenzará de manera inminente la XV Regata Copa Sotogrande Rives, son un gran ejemplo de la viveza de la zona. Todo ello deberá ir a más y en continuidad ya que supondrá progreso y recuperación de todo el Valle del Guadiaro. Destacar también que en los últimos días, gracias a la iniciativa Destino Punta del Este, hemos tenido la oportunidad de compartir experiencias con una delegación del paradisíaco enclave uruguayo, de unas características y cultura similar a la de Sotogrande. No son pocos los rasgos en común con este destino, en nuestras páginas encontrarán algunas de estas experiencias que seguro irán a más.
The centre of attention Sotogrande has enjoyed its greatest days over recent weeks, with the biggest events of the summer. A host of events that carry their own, indisputable, singular signature. Very few corners of the world benefit from such excellence as Sotogrande provides. This prime location is associated with service of the highest quality, luxury and style, all of which lends unique characteristics to each event, translating to wide-scale diffusion and projection. In the past few days we've seen a number of major events, such as the innovative launch of Trocadero Sotogrande. An iconic and emblematic location, whose new image is no doubt destined to be the centre of attention and a leading gathering place. One of the best and most sophisticated beach clubs, Trocadero goes far beyond this. In addition, the runway of familiar faces and prominent members of society in the area and of national interest puts Sotogrande at the centre of attention, promoting the image of great value that we enjoy. Together with the importance of major sporting events, such as the Land Rover International
Polo Tournament at Santa María Polo Club, ongoing throughout this month, the great image of Sotogrande is elevated, along with the numerous benefits this brings for economic development and growth in the region. Similarly, both traditional and newer events that are hugely popular with both residents and tourists, such as the Indian Bazaar, the new Tuna Festival, the first ever Full Moon Horse Race, Tapas Day, local festivals, golf tournaments, and of course the soon-to-begin 15th Sotogrande Rives Cup - all these are great examples of the vibrancy of the area. This will all go further to continue the progress and recovery of the whole of Valle del Guadiaro. Another highlight of the past few days, thanks to the Destination Punta del Este initiative, has given us the chance to share experiences with a delegation from this paradise enclave of Uruguay, a place with similar characteristics and culture as Sotogrande. There are more than a few features in common with this destination, and in our pages you'll find some of these experiences will grow only greater in future.

Carta del director Sotogrande esta de moda y lo sabemos todos Entramos de lleno en el fin de semana por excelencia que marca el no hay billetes en Sotogrande. Sí este es la fecha que marca el punto de inflexión del alto grado de ocupación y que a partir de la tercera semana comienza a reducir su presencia. Esto es agosto y mas de media España esta de vacaciones. Y como no podía ser de otra forma, Sotogrande centra el interés de muchos poderosos que sitúan este lugar en su calendario veraniego. Esta siendo una temporada muy bien valorada por el comercio en general y por las empresas de prestación de servicios, que han visto como a sus arcas les entraban euros suficientes para soportar los próximos meses de aciago que comporta el otoño – invierno. En lo deportivo - lúdico entramos en fechas cruciales, ya que la primera gran final de polo, la de plata, se celebra este próximo viernes, entre el equipo del americano Bob Joyrnavaez, Valiente y Dos Lunas del patrón español Álvaro Sáenz de Vicuña, que ostenta el patrocinio del banco portugués Espirito Santo, que curiosamente anda muy presente en el papel salmón por estas fechas. Se espera una gran afluencia de publico, ya que el nivel de polo del que estamos gozando es altísimo, solo hay que recordar los dos partidos de las semifinales, donde la intensidad y el coraje de los cuatro equipos fue descomunal. Esto hace presumir una gran final en lo deportivo, y por supuesto en los modelitos y personajes que nos visitarán, por lo que nos veremos mas en las noticias de color rosa que por la calidad del propio polo. Y al calor de esta temporada, donde el poniente esta recalentando en demasía, le viene que ni pintado la celebración de su tradicional regata Copa Sotogrande, lo que permitirá recuperar el ambiente náutico tan vinculado a esta tierra. El esfuerzo del Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande por mantener esta competición se debería ver mas arropado o contar con la unión de todos los que de una forma u otra participan en esta dinámica deportiva aquí en Sotogrande, porque lo que no se logra entender es que existan mas de una vía con intención de hacer lo mismo, y esto provoca que al final siempre sale perju-
dicado el deporte en sí, por lo que sugerimos un entendimiento entre todas las partes y potenciar, mas si cabe, los deportes náuticos en Sotogrande. Continuando con las novedades mas notorias, cabe destacar la puesta en escena de Trocadero Sotogrande, donde el pasado siete del presente, nos trasladó por unas horas al mismísimo Marbella. Incluso llegué a comentar, que nunca antes tarde tan poco en llegar a la emblemática ciudad de la Costa del Sol, solo cinco minutos. Somos conscientes que tendrá sus detractores y benefactores, lo que si es cierto es que al menos se puede presumir de disponer de un lugar con gran nivel para mostrar el mejor Sotogrande. En lo que se refiere a la cocina, buena calidad, quizás un poco caro, intuyo que será motivado por el ejercito de personal de servicios, lo cual esperamos continúe en los próximos meses, porque aun les queda rodaje y el servicio resulta un poco lento. En resumen, gran apuesta y confiamos la podamos disfrutar por mucho tiempo. Disfruten de la ultima quincena de agosto, esto esta muy ambientado y en estas fechas los servicios están bastante rodados, así que con el gran programa de actividades y la buena oferta de servicios, solo resta pasarlo bien. Sotogrande is in fashion and we all know it We're plunging into a quintessential, sold-out Sotogrande weekend. This is the date that marks the turning point from peak occupancy, as from the third week onwards it will begin to reduce. It's August, and more than half of Spain is on holiday. And of course, Sotogrande is the focal point for many important figures, who mark this location on their summer calendar. This continues to be a profitable season for businesses in general and for companies in the service industry, who have seen their coffers filled with enough euros to withstand the coming dark period of autumn and winter. In sports and leisure, we're approaching the most crucial dates. The first polo final, for the silver, will be held next Friday, between American Bob Jornayvaz's team Valiente, and Dos Lunas owned by Spaniard Álvaro Sáenz de Vicuña, sponsored by Portuguese bank Espirito Santo, which curiously is doing very well in the pink papers lately. A high public turnout is expected, as the standard of polo we are enjoying is very high - just remember the two semi-final games, where the intensity and courage of the four teams was immense. This foretells a great final not just for the sport, but also for the outfits and the visiting personalities, which we'll see more about in the pink papers than the quality of the polo itself. And in the heat of this season, just as things are hotting up too much, the traditional Sotogrande Cup race is most welcome, allowing us to recapture that nautical feeling so closely linked to this land. The efforts of Sotogrande Royal Maritime Club to keep this competition running deserve more support, or rely on the coming together of all those who, in one form or another, participate in this dynamic sport here in Sotogrande. What some fail
to understand is that there exists more than one way to do this, and this means in the end the sport itself loses out, so we suggest an understanding between all sides and to promote, even more so, water sports in Sotogrande. Continuing with the list of notable developments, there's the opening of Trocadero Sotogrande, where the past meets the present, as we're transported a couple of hours away to Marbella itself. I'd even say that it's never been faster to reach that emblematic city of the Costa del Sol - only five minutes. In terms of the location, it's been a very risky and expensive move, but surprisingly, after years of an obsolete beach club, we have now, overnight, a spectacular new beach club in the finest colonial African style. We are aware that it will have both its detractors and its supporters, but what's for certain is that we have a top-level location to how off the best of Sotogrande. As for the food, it's good quality, maybe a little pricey, I sense motivated by the training of serving staff, which we hope will continue in the coming months, because they were still learning the ropes and service was a little slow. All in all, a great investment, and one we trust we'll enjoy for years to come. Enjoy the final two weeks of August. Everything is well set-up, and during this time the services are rolling along, so with the great programme of activities and wide range of services, all that remains is to enjoy yourselves. Gran éxito y fantástica acogida de la I Feria del Atún de Sotogrande, localizada junto a la Torre de Control de Puerto Sotogrande. Un tartár de atún del restaurante Mesón El Copo de Palmones se alzó como ganador de la mejor tapa de la I Feria del Atún. El jurado eligió esta tapa entre las 30 presentadas a concurso por la docena de establecimientos que ofrecieron elaboraciones culinarias con el atún como base. El segundo premio recayó en el establecimiento Tango,s y

Merseamar; y el tercero fue para La Barrica. El jurado estaba compuesto por Eva Marcos, Kike Berazadi y Manuela Figueroa. Además, se realizó en la jornada del sábado degustaciones y un ronqueo en vivo, que atrajo la presencia de numerosas personalidades de la zona y mucho público. Esta actividad estaba organizada por la delegación de Turismo, con el patrocinio de Puerto Sotogrande y la colaboración de varias empresas y establecimientos de la zona.

The first ever Sotogrande Tuna Festival, which recently took place in the Sotogrande Marina control tower, proved to be a very popular event. A tuna tartar from the Mesón El Copo restaurant in Palmones won the prize for the best tapas dish in the I Tuna Festival. The jury chose this dish from the 30 entries submitted to the contest by the dozen establishments who all offered their very best tuna-inspired culinary creations. Second prize went to Tango’s and Merseamar, and third went to La Barrica. The jury comprised Eva Marcos, Kike Berazadi and Manuela Figueroa.
On the Saturday, there were also tasting sessions and a live tuna carving, which attracted a number of local personalities and a large crowd. The activity was organised by the local tourist board and sponsored by Sotogrande Marina. Various other local businesses and restaurants also supported the event. Throughout the festival there were a number of different performances by bands such as New Orleans and the San Roque group Al son del sur. The tuna carving took place on the Saturday, with salted fish tastings organised by Herpac and free children’s entertainment.

El Club E3 Experience, con la colaboración de la Delegación Municipal de Deportes y varias entidades colaborados, como El Periódico de Sotogrande, celebró el I Raid Hípico Luna Llena, una carrera de larga distancia a campo a través que partió y finalizó en la playa de Guadalquitón. La presencia de los caballos generó gran expectación entre los abundantes bañistas. El Raid, también llamado enduro, es una disciplina ecuestre en la cual se pone a prueba la velo-
cidad, habilidad y la resistencia física y psicológica de caballo y jinete, ya que ambos deben recorrer grandes distancias en un día, a través de los más diversos terrenos y contra el tiempo. Para ello el jinete debe tener la capacidad de dosificar el esfuerzo de su caballo y llevar un ritmo adecuado durante la prueba, pues al finalizar la carrera los caballos son inspeccionados por veterinarios, se le toman las pulsaciones y el jinete podría ser eliminado si está sobre lo permiti-

The E3 Experience club, with the support of the Municipal Department for Sport and various other organisations such as El Periódico de Sotogrande, came together to enjoy the first ever Full Moon Equine Endurance Event, a long-distance, cross country race that started and finished on Guadalquitón beach. The arrival of the horses created quite a bit of excitement among the many beach-goers. This endurance event is an equestrian disciple that tests the speed, skills and physical and mental strength of both the horse and the rider, as both
must travel a great distance in one day, over a large variety of terrains and against the clock. For this event, the rider must be able to pace the horse and find the precise rhythm necessary to complete the test successfully. At the end of the race, all the horses are checked over by a vet who takes their pulse, and the rider will be eliminated if this is above the permitted level. Councillor for Valle del Guadiaro, Juan Roca, underlined the importance of this kind of sporting event, pointing out how they can serve as a tourist attraction.

Pensioners at San Enrique Home enjoy boat trip around Sotogrande Marina A total of 26 elderly people who use the La Milagrosa Home in San Enrique enjoyed a boat trip on Sotogrande Marina waters. Municipal and marina authorities accompanied the pensioners during the activity, which is aimed at giving them some spe-
cial moments outside of their daily routine. The event, a repeat from last summer, involved various local businesses and organisations that ensure the elderly people had a very special day and enjoyed the great pleasure of a boat
trip around the area. The Civil Defence Organisation participated in the activity, particularly in the difficult embarkation of the pensioners onto the vessel in which they toured the calm waters of Sotogrande Marina.

Trocadero Sotogrande realizó su puesta de largo en una de las citas con mayor atractivo del verano y con la etiqueta de esos eventos ilustres de un agosto en Sotogrande. Following an extensive remodelling of the Beach Club, Trocadero Sotogrande launches its innovative new Beach Club concept, aiming to make it the preeminent venue of the whole coast, offering the best service in a broader format. The opening was attended by numerous Sotogrande society figures, as well as the many familiar faces of the summer season, and many representatives from the world of politics and the business sector. Chiringuito Bahía Limón is heading into the final stretch of August with various surprises still up their sleeve. Summer isn't over yet, not by a long shot. There are still more days of sun, sand and good food in store, as well as great live performances to be enjoyed. In fact, Bahía Limón has prepared a programme for the second half of August that's guaranteed to keep things interesting at Torreguadiaro beach. At the same time, the team at Bahía Limón would like to express their gratitude to all those friends and customers that have supported them this summer as their beach bar of choice. Their locavore proposal, with its strong commitment to local culinary, cultural
and artistic assets as well as the careful selection of organic products, has been met with a very enthusiastic response in the area. El tradicional Bazar de la India, un reclamo en Sotogrande para una buena causa xz Manuel Gil El Club de Playa El Octógono acogió un nuevo verano el tradicional Bazar de la India en una jornada muy entretenida y con mucho ambiente por parte de los muchos asistentes y vecinos de Sotogrande que se acercaron para adquirir productos y colaborar de esta manera con la organización benéfica. Una cita habitual cada verano que sirve para recaudar fondos y contribuir a la gran labor que despeña
tanto en nuestras fronteras como fuera de ellas la Fundación. Los diferentes puestos contaban con artículos de artesanía y decoración, objetos de oro, plata y bronce, ropa, bolsos, joyas, bisutería, y todo tipo de complementos típicos de la India, muchos realizados en los talleres que la Fundación financia en India para apoyar a las mujeres y promover su desarrollo. Además, se realizó una rifa con una larga lista de regalos donados
por empresas y entidades colaboradoras con el Bazar. Un lujo contar con este tipo de actividades, que tanto apoya la comunidad local en Sotogrande.

The City of Hope and Joy Foundation hosts event at El Octógono Beach Club
The annual Indian Bazaar; giving for a good cause in Sotogrande The El Octógono Beach Club once again played host to this summer’s Indian Bazaar. It was an extremely enjoyable day, with a great atmosphere that was helped by the large number of visitors and locals from Sotogrande who came to buy something special and support this charity. It is an event that takes place every
summer and raises funds to support the work done by the Foundation both in this country and further afield. The stalls sold various types of handicrafts, gold, silver and bronze, clothes, bags, jewellery and all sorts of other accessories typical of India. Many of the items on sale at the fair were made in workshops run by the
Foundation in India to support women and promote their development. There was also a raffle with a long list of gifts donated by businesses and other groups that supported the Bazaar. It was wonderful to see how successful this kind of activity was in Sotogrande and how supportive the community was of the charity’s efforts.

ron de una magnífica noche en un marco de lujo. Además de la cena, los asistentes disfrutaron de actuaciones en directo de un grupo flamenco y de la rifa y sorteo de regalos entre los comensales. Un evento de carácter solidario para colaborar con Montenegral, que cada año reúne a ilustres participantes en Sotogrande.

Montenegral holds its traditional annual dinner at Valderrama Golf Once again the Montenegral Association held its traditional charity dinner in Sotogrande at one of the area's most emblematic venues, the magnificent Valderrama Golf Club. The event, celebrated every summer to raise money for the organisation, was a relaxed soiree with diners enjoying a magnifi-
cent night in luxury surroundings. In addition to the dinner, those who attended were entertained with live performances by a flamenco group as well as a prize raffle. Each year the charity event draws distinguished guests to Sotogrande in order to raise funds for Montenegral.

Ramón Luengo, director general de Sotogrande SA, recibe a El Periódico de Sotogrande en su despacho de las oficinas de la entidad, en el Puerto Deportivo de Sotogrande. Su talante y agradable carácter hacen aún más cordial el encuentro, en el que se repasa el futuro a corto y medio plazo para Sotogrande y los atractivos que ofrece la zona en un verano que ya toca sus días de máximo apogeo. Al fin comenzaron las obras de las espigones en la playa de Sotogrande. Sin duda, una gran noticia para la zona aunque llegan con un poco de retraso... Es cierto que han comenzado algo más tarde de lo que esperábamos pero lo más importante es que ya se encuentra en mar-
cha el proyecto y es una fantástica noticia para la zona. Se están ejecutando los trabajos del primero de los espigones y esperamos que en unos días esté finalizado, eso es lo que cuenta. Éste era un paso muy necesario para la comunidad de Sotogrande y celebramos que ya se haya dado. Una vez esté finalizado el primer dique el tiempo pasa a jugar a nuestro favor; ya que gracias a él la playa irá acumulando arena poco a poco. Pero no sólo es mérito de Sotogrande SA; ha sido fundamental el trabajo e interés puesto por el Ayuntamiento de San Roque, así como la colaboración de la Comunidad de Apartamentos Playa y la Entidad Urbanística de Conservación Parques de Sotogrande.
¿El proceso es un poco más largo, verdad? ¿La financiación queda repartida entre todas las entidades? Sí, exactamente. Una vez esté concluida la construcción del primer espigón la siguiente etapa del proceso se centra en rellenar la zona de arena. El planteamiento consiste en llevarlo a cabo, si los permisos lo permiten y esperamos que así sea, con parte de la barra del río Guadiaro. Y posteriormente, habrá que esperar unos meses para valorar el impacto de la obra antes de iniciar la construcción del segundo espigón. Respecto a la financiación, Sotogrande SA asume dos tercios del total de los costes y el tercio restante lo aportan la Entidad de Conservación y la Comunidad de Apartamentos.
Una de las grandes novedades o cambios este verano en Sotogrande ha sido la aparición de Trocadero en el Club de Playa. ¿Cómo nace esta idea y qué dirección toma? Supone un cambio en mucho aspectos, no sólo en la apariencia, que de por sí lo es. Notábamos que en los últimos años el club de playa había perdido parte de su importancia en Sotogrande y que no había continuado creciendo al mismo ritmo que la urbanización. Por ello, pensamos en actualizar el estilo y conseguir que más gente pudiera disfrutar del club de playa y convertirse en un valor capital en Sotogrande, de esta manera apareció la idea de Trocadero. Para nosotros, Trocadero cuenta con el mejor restaurante

en la playa que hay en toda la Costa del Sol, no sólo por la gastronomía y el servicio de excelente calidad, también por el tipo de público al que llega. Entendemos que Trocadero encaja perfectamente en la nueva filosofía que queremos que tenga el club. Un club abierto. ¿La finalidad de todo ello es convertir Trocadero Sotogrande en un gran reclamo? Queremos que sea un punto de atracción, que se convierta en el mejor club de playa de Europa. Igual que contamos con los mejores campos de golf de Europa Continental, pretendemos que Sotogrande, de la mano de Trocadero, sea también el mejor club de playa. El Cucurucho era un lugar muy entrañable y con mucha tradición pero necesitaba una renovación. Hemos dado este paso para lograr dar el mejor servicio posible en Sotogrande. Sabemos que durante los dos o tres primeros días de funcionamiento ha habido algunos desajustes, normales dada la magnitud del cambio y lo rápido que se ha abierto al público: han sido sólo dos meses desde que se iniciaron las obras. Es impresionante el esfuerzo que Dionisio Hernández-Gil y su han equipo han hecho en este tiempo; algo así está al alcance de muy pocos. El restaurante ya ha empezado a coger velocidad de crucero y es muy agradable ver a más de un centenar de personas [de la zona] trabajando en el club de playa. Además, Trocadero Sotogrande va a estar abierto durante todo el año, siendo un escenario fantástico para acoger todo tipo de eventos. ¿Sotogrande se vende o no se vende? Dentro del marco de la estrategia empresarial del Grupo NH se encuentra hacer una serie de desinversiones y la de Sotogrande SA, es una posibilidad entre ellas. En tal caso, somos una empresa cotizada y en el momento de establecerse algún tipo de acuerdo se informará la Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores y obviamente será algo que se haga público. Por supuesto, como en toda negociación, ha habido encuentros con grupos interesados pero aún no hay nada cerrado y tampoco existe un plazo ni hay una cuenta atrás para hacer efectiva una posible venta. ¿En qué estado se encuentra la Hípica de Sotogrande? Necesita una mejora y urgente. Por diferentes motivos no está a nivel que quisié-
ramos, y en la misma línea de las actuaciones que estamos realizando a nivel global queremos disponer de la mejor Hípica. Actualmente se encuentra arrendada a un operador y valoramos qué mejoras hacer, si bien se opta por reforzar algunos aspectos o bien llevar a cabo ciertas modificaciones. La hípica está creciendo mucho en la zona y yo soy partidario de invertir, por ello estamos estudiando los pasos adecuados.
RC44 en el Puerto de Sotogrande, contar con un evento de esa repercusión internacional proyecta la imagen de Sotogrande a gran escala. Del mismo modo que ocurre con el Torneo Internacional de Polo de Santa María Polo Club, una de las mayores citas mundiales de este deporte. El objetivo parte en apuntar muy arriba en todos los ámbitos. Hacer cosas que generen y recuerden que Sotogrande es el mejor destino de Europa como escenario de todos estos eventos.
¿Y el Racquet Center? Su situación es más o menos parecida a la de la Hípica. Contamos con un operador histórico, con el que compartimos una muy buena relación aunque estudiamos diversas mejoras. Ya este año se han ejecutado algunas reformas pero queremos darle un nuevo enfoque. En este proyecto está muy interesado en ayudarnos a explotarlo y colaborar con nosotros Manolo Santana, este verano ya podremos verle por aquí. La idea es renovarlo completamente pero habrá que decidirlo una vez pase el verano.
¿Qué balance hace a mitad del calendario a nivel inmobiliario? Estamos teniendo un buen año en la línea de lo presupuestado, con un crecimiento en ventas cercano al 20%. Hemos vendido propiedades en Ribera del Marlin, conforme a los objetivos previstos, cerrando el primer semestre con 15 ventas. Se han vendido las Cimas de Almenara que restaban y por primera vez desde 2007 hemos conseguido la venta de casas en Los Cortijos. Además, hemos logrado reactivar la venta de parcelas. El 2014 está siendo claramente mejor que el pasado año.
¿Y los hoteles? Creemos que los hoteles son un activo fundamental de nuestra empresa, y la reciente incorporación de Juan José Moreno como nuevo director de ambos ya se está notando positivamente en los resultados. El hotel pequeño, NH Sotogrande, tiene un equipo joven y renovado que está obteniendo unos resultados magníficos, y Almenara, nuestro buque insignia, sigue trabajando para ofrecer el mejor servicio y atención al cliente. En cualquier caso, estamos estudiando con NH la posibilidad de llevar a cabo una renovación y mejora importante, en la línea de lo que venimos comentando. El Torneo de Golf NH Collection Open o la regata de RC44. Eventos de este calado dan una gran difusión internacional a Sotogrande. ¿Son fundamentales estos eventos? Estamos muy contentos con la celebración del NH Collection Open de Golf en La Reserva de Sotogrande. Acoger un evento del Circuito Europeo en Sotogrande de manera estable es muy importante para la zona. Sotogrande debe convertirse en la capital del golf continental europeo y para ello disponemos de unas instalaciones y una capacidad de servicio incomparables. Trabajamos para mejorar la calidad del evento y dotarlo de mayor auge. Por otro lado, fue fantástico albergar la regata de
¿Qué hay del servicio de mantenimiento en La Marina? ¿Y la problemática con los ‘bolardos’ y los vecinos? Tenemos un trabajo difícil en el mantenimiento de La Marina. Con esa premisa, optamos por constituir una sociedad independiente porque queremos realizar un esfuerzo especial en ejecutar bien este trabajo. En este sentido, hemos apostado por la transparencia y vamos a comunicar las cuentas generales para que los propietarios estén al tanto de todo. De hecho, estamos trabajando directamente con los presidentes de algunas de estas comunidades
para asegurarnos de que damos al cliente lo que espera de nosotros. En cuanto al tema de los bolardos, se tratan de una protección de zonas verdes. Sólo están situadas en zonas de praderas para evitar que no estacionen coches en dichas zonas. Nuestra obligación es proteger y velar para que la zona de La Marina esté siempre perfecta y no podemos permitir que los coches aparquen sobre las zonas ajardinadas; es el único fin. Además, están supervisadas, sin ninguna objeción por parte de los técnicos municipales. ¿Qué balance hace a nivel personal de estos dos años al frente? Puedo resumir estos dos años en dos etapas. La primera, estuvo centrada en la reorganización de la empresa por dentro, creando sociedades nuevas para separar las líneas de negocio, ajustando costes; en resumen, cambios organizativos y de estructura...y una segunda mitad, en el que las acciones han sido más visibles. Algunas de estas son la organización de grandes eventos como el NH Collection o el World Corporate Golf Challenge, la renovación del Club de Playa, el inicio de la obra de los espigones en la playa, la remodelación La Cabaña de Sotogrande, traer un operador a la Academia de Golf y conseguir llevar a La Reserva de Sotogrande al mejor operador del mundo de golf [Troon Golf ], entre otras. Creo que estamos en el buen camino: combinar la tradición, que es muy importante, con la renovación. Sotogrande se enfrenta a unos 5 ó 10 años determinantes en los que se juega convertirse en el referente residencial turístico europeo y mundial y podemos hacerlo si nos empeñamos en ser los mejores en todo, en buscar la excelencia como meta de manera constante.

“Sotogrande must aspire to become the best residential tourist destination in the world, and that requires it being updated” Ramón Luengo, general manager of Sotogrande SA, received El Periódico de Sotogrande in his office at the company's headquarters at the Sotogrande Marina. His agreeable disposition and friendly personality made for a very pleasant meeting that involved discussing Sotogrande's short and medium-term future along with the various attractions the area offers in summer. Work on the Sotogrande beach breakwaters has finally started. It's undoubtedly good news for the area, despite the delay. It's true that it has started a little later than we expected, but the most important thing is that the project is now underway and it's fantastic news for the area. Work is being done on the first of the breakwaters and we hope that it will be finished in a few days. That's what counts. This step was really necessary for the Sotogrande community and we are very pleased that it was taken. Once the first dyke is finished, time will be on our side as it is going to result in the beach slowly accumulating sand. But credit doesn't only go to Sotogrande SA, the work and interest invested by the San Roque City Council has been essential, as has been the collaboration of the Beach Apartment Association and the Urban Body of Sotogrande Park Conservation.
The process is a little longer, right? Was the financing divided between all the organisations? Yes, exactly. Once construction on the first breakwater is completed, the next step in the process focuses on filling the area with sand. The plan consists in doing this with part of the Guadiaro River sandbank if the permits allow, and we hope that they will. Afterwards, it will be necessary to wait several months to assess the impact of the work before beginning construction on the second breakwater. With respect to the financing, Sotogrande SA is assuming two thirds of the total of all costs and the remaining third is being contributed by the Conservation Body and the Apartment Association. One of the great innovations or changes this summer in Sotogrande has been the arrival of Trocadero at the Beach Club. Where did this idea emerge from and what direction does it suggest? It entails a change in many ways, not only in its appearance but in and of itself. We noted that in recent years the beach club had lost some of its importance in Sotogrande and that it hadn't kept pace with the residential development. That's why we thought about updating the style, enabling more peo-
ple to enjoy the beach club and turning it into one of Sotogrande's principal assets. That's how the idea of Trocadero came up. We believe that Trocadero has the best beach restaurant in the whole Costa del Sol, not only because of its excellent food and service but also because of the type of public that frequents it. We're confident that Trocadero perfectly fits the new philosophy that we want the club to have: to be an open club. Is the overall aim to convert Trocadero Sotogrande into a major lure? We want it to become an attraction, to become the best beach club in Europe. Just as we have the best golf courses in continental Europe, we are aiming for Sotogrande, by means of Trocadero, to also be the best beach club. El Cucurucho was a very charming place with a long tradition but it needed to be updated. We have taken this step in order to be able to offer the best possible service in Sotogrande. We know that during its first two or three days there were some hiccups. This was normal given the magnitude of the change and the speed at which it opened to the public: only two months after the renovations began. The work of Dionisio Hernández-Gil and his team in that time was very impressive, something very few
would be able to manage. The restaurant has already started to reach operating speed and it's very pleasant to see over a hundred people [from the area] working in the beach club. In addition, Trocadero Sotogrande is going to be open year round. It's a fantastic venue for hosting all kinds of events. Is Sotogrande for sale or not? Within the framework of NH Group's business strategy there is a plan to carry out a series of disinvestments and Sotogrande SA is one of the possible candidates. We are a listed company and if this were to happen, the National Stock Exchange Commission would be informed as soon as some kind of agreement was established and it would obviously be made public. Of course, as in all negotiations, there have been meetings with interested parties but nothing has yet been confirmed and there is no set period or deadline for a potential sale. What is the state of the Sotogrande Equestrian Centre? It needs urgent improvement. For various reasons it isn't up to the level we would like and, in keeping with the same line of action we are carrying out on a global level, we would like to have

It is currently being leased out to an operator and we are assessing what improvements to make, whether to choose to strengthen some aspects or to carry out certain modifications. Equestrian sports are expanding considerably in the area and I'm in favour of investing. That's why we are studying what steps to take.

The NH Collection Open Golf Tournament and the RC44 regatta are high profile events that promote Sotogrande internationally. Are these events essential?
And the Racquet Centre? The situation there is more or less similar to that of the Equestrian Centre. We have a very good relationship with the long-term operator there, although we are studying various options for improvement. This year we have already carried out some renovations, but we want to give it a new focus. Manolo Santana is very interested in working with us on this project and helping us to exploit it and this summer we will be able to see him here. The idea is to completely renovate it, but we will have to decide after the summer. And the hotels? We believe that the hotels are an essential asset in our business and the recent addition of Juan JosĂŠ Moreno as the new manager of both is already being reflected positively in the results. The small hotel, NH Sotogrande, has a young, updated team that is achieving magnificent results; and Almenara, our flagship, continues to work tirelessly to offer
We are very pleased with the NH Collection Golf Open at La Reserva de Sotogrande. Regularly hosting a European Circuit event in Sotogrande is very important for the area. Sotogrande must fashion itself as the capital of continental European golf and to do this we have unparalleled facilities and service capacity. We work at improving the quality of the event and fostering its growth. On the other hand, it was fantastic to host the RC44 regatta at the Sotogrande Marina and have such a high-profile international event promote Sotogrande's image on a large scale. It's the same in the case of Santa MarĂa Polo Club's International Polo Tournament, one of the world's major polo events. The objective is to aim very high in all fields, to build and promote Sotogrande's reputation as the best European destination as a result of hosting all these events. What's your mid-year assessment in terms of real estate?
We are having a good year in line with what was budgeted, with almost 20% growth in sales. Our sale of properties in Ribera del Marlin has been consistent with our objectives and we have closed the first semester with 15 sales. The remaining Cimas de Almenara properties have been sold and for the first time since 2007 we have sold houses in Los Cortijos. We have also managed to bring back the sale of sections. 2014 is clearly proving to be better than last year. What is happening with the maintenance service at La Marina and the problem with the bollards and the neighbours? We have a difficult job with maintenance at La Marina. Given that premise, we opted for establishing an independent company, because we want to make a special effort to ensure the work is carried out well. In this sense, we have made a commitment to transparency and we are going to publish the general accounts so that the owners are up to date with the whole situation. In fact, we're working directly with the presidents of some of these neighbourhood associations to make sure that we give clients what they expect from us. In terms of the bollards, they're a means of protecting the green areas. They are only located in lawn areas to stop cars from parking there. Our obligation is to protect and safeguard the area of La Marina so that it is always in perfect condition and we can't allow cars to park on areas
of garden. That's their sole purpose. In addition, they are supervised and there hasn't been any objection from municipal officers. What is your personal assessment of these two years in which you've headed the company? I can summarise these two years in two stages. The first was focused on the internal reorganisation of the company, creating new companies to separate business lines, adjusting costs. To sum up: organisational and structural changes. And a second half in which the actions taken have been more visible. Some of these are the organisation of large events such as the NH Collection and the World Corporate Golf Challenge, the renovation of the Beach Club, the start of work on the breakwaters at the beach, the remodelling of La CabaĂąa de Sotogrande, bringing in an operator to the Golf Academy and managing to bring the best golf operator in the world [Troon Golf ] into La Reserva de Sotogrande, among other things. I think that we're on the right track: combining tradition, which is very important, with renewal. Sotogrande is facing some 5 or 10 decisive years in which what is at stake is the ability to become the European and World benchmark of residential tourism. We can do it if we are determined to be the best in everything, to constantly set ourselves the goal of excellence.

Protección Civil realiza 350 actuaciones en las playas de la zona durante la primera etapa del verano xz Redacción El dispositivo de Protección Civil, realizó casi 350 actuaciones en las diferentes playas del litoral municipail, la mayoría relacionadas con asistencias sanitarias a los usuarios, durante la primera etapa del verano Desde el 1 al 31 de julio, el dispositivo de Protección Civil en las playas sanroqueñas realizórealizado un total de 290 actuaciones sanitarias por cortes por cristales, curas por anzuelos, púas de erizos, picaduras de pez araña y de avispas, siendo la playa de Puente Mayorga la más atendida, con un total de 102 actuaciones, seguida por Guadarranque con 86 y en menor medida (menos de una atención diaria de media), el resto
de las playas. Con respecto a rescates en el mar, se realizarono 24, la mayoría (10) en la playa de To r r e g u a d i a r o , seguidos por 5 en Guadarranque, 3 en Puente Mayorga, y dos en Alcaidesa, Cala Sardina y Puerto Sotogrande. Un incendio arrasa con 14 hectáreas de la Sierra del Arca

Un incendio arrasó casi catorce hectáreas de arbolado y monte bajo en la Sierra del Arca. El fuego, muy probablemente provocado, según fuentes municipales, llegó a amenazar algunas viviendas próximas al Hotel NH Almenara, pero finalmente no hubo que realojar a ninguna familia. Desde el Ayuntamiento, Protección Civil y Policía Local colaboraron estrechamente con el operativo autonómico del Infoca, que se encargó de la coordinación y llevó el principal peso en las labores de extinción junto con el Consorcio de Bomberos. El incendio se declaró a las
23:09, de la jornada del sábado, y se consideró estabilizado a las 3:05 de la mañana, después de toda una noche en la que se afanaron en luchar contra el avance de las llamas seis grupos de especialistas -formados por siete personas-, cuatro vehículos autobomba -con 3.500 litros de capacidad cada una- y un AMA. Medios que se redujeron a dos grupos de especialistas y una autobomba cuando se consideró estabilizado. En total, trabajaron en el incendio de la Sierra del Arca ocho bomberos con cinco vehículos -un vehículo urbano ligero, un vehículo rural, un
vehículo nodriza y dos vehículos de mando. En la extinción, el Consorcio empleó 60.000 litros de agua. Se retiraron a las siete de la mañana, y allí permanecieron los efectivos del Infoca. El alcalde de San Roque, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, lamentó “el incendio más importante del verano hasta el momento en el término municipal, y espero que sea el último. En las semanas pasadas tan sólo hubo algunos conatos que fueron extinguidos por el Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos, pero este caso ha sido más grave y ha tenido que participar el Infoca”, explicó.
Forest fire destroys 14 hectares of Sierra del Arca mountains A forest fire has burned down almost fourteen hectares of woodland and scrub in the Sierra del Arca area. The fire, which local government sources suspect was started on purpose, got so far as to threaten the safety of some homes near the NH Almenara Hotel, but in the end, no families needed to be evacuated. The town council, emergency services and local police all worked closely with the independent Infoca team who coordinated the emergency response and worked with the fire fighting team to extinguish the fire. The alarm was raised at 23:09 on
Saturday night, and the fire was officially put out by 3:05 early the next morning, after six teams of seven experts each worked through the night to put a halt to the advancing flames. The teams were aided by four fire engines –with 3,500 litres of water each – and an environmental officer. These teams were eventually reduced to two and one fire engine once the fire was brought under control. In total, eight fire fighters and five vehicles were involved in extinguishing the fire –one light urban vehicle, one all-terrain vehicle, a water carrier and two control
vehicles. The Council used 60,000 litres of water to put out the fire. The local government teams left the area at seven the next morning, but the Infoca group stayed on. San Roque mayor, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, said that “this has been the largest fire in the area so far this summer, and I truly hope it will be the last. We had previously only suffered small outbreaks that were successfully extinguished by the Local Fire Brigade however, this time was more serious and we needed to bring in Infoca for extra support”.

Charangas, que acompañó a la Corte Infantil y Juvenil de nuestra Feria. El sábado, día de las comidas. Al mediodía, en la Caseta Municipal la Comida de Mujeres, y por la noche, la Cena de los Hombres en la Caseta Joven. El domingo se organizó en la Caseta Municipal la celebración del Domingo rociero, con una Gran Chorizada, Paella gratis a todos los asistentes, la actuación Playback de adultos y el concurso de Caballos. Por la noche, tuvo lugar en la Caseta Municipal la Cena de los Mayores y la elección Abuelos del Año. Los actos de Feria concluyeron con el espectáculo de Fuegos artificiales.
San Enrique de Guadiaro locals enjoy Feria 2014 The Feria de San Enrique de Guadiaro was inaugurated with the crowning of Young and Child Queens Zaida Jimena Rojas and Blanca Cuevas Gil, respectively. At the same event, Francisco Quirós and Juani Morales were chosen as Mr and Mrs San Enrique with town councillor Jeñus Mayoral and deputy mayor of fiestas José Antonio Rojas presenting them with their sashes. There was also a performance by the group Compás Flamenco. The activity programme on Friday was aimed at children, with a big children's party at the Caseta Municipal and, in the afternoon, the Procession of
Floats and Brass Bands that accompanied the Feria's Young and Children's Court. Saturday was the day of big meals. The Women's Lunch was held at the Caseta Municipal at midday and the Men's Dinner in the evening at the Caseta Joven. On Sunday the Caseta Municipal hosted Domingo Rociero celebrations with a chorizo feast, free paella for all those present, lip synching performances by adults and the horse competition. At night the Senior Citizens' Dinner took place at the Caseta Municipal along with the election of Grandparents of the Year. The Feria concluded with a fireworks display.

Colas en la frontera de Gibraltar Desde que el señor Picardo tomó posesión del cargo de Primer Ministro de Gibraltar las relaciones entre la colonia y España han sufrido un rápido y gradual deterioro. Desde luego hay que reconocer que las primeras medidas tomadas por su Gobierno no fueron nada diplomáticas (me refiero al vertido de bloques de hormigón en zonas de pesca tradicional por parte de pequeños pesqueros españoles) y desde la parte española fueron consideradas como una provocación. Como siempre se ha dicho, una cosa es la soberanía sobre el peñón y otra muy distinta las relaciones de vecindad existentes entre ambas comunidades. Y así como en cuanto a lo primero es muy difícil llegar a ningún tipo de acuerdo, en lo segundo no debiera haber mayores complicaciones siempre dentro del mayor respeto entre las partes. El vertido de los bloques no obedecía a ninguna necesidad gibraltareña y sin embargo entrañaba grandes riesgos. Lo cierto es que dicha actuación nos ha llevado a un punto en el que, como casi siempre ocurre con los conflictos políticos, los únicos perjudicados son los ciudadanos de ambas partes de la frontera. En cuanto a la comunidad gibraltareña porque el Estado español ha iniciado una campaña de inspecciones fiscales para regularizar la situación de los gibraltareños que aunque residen en España la mayor parte del tiempo, no pagan aquí sus impuestos. Esta campaña es el origen de los numerosos recelos que existen actualmente y que ha conllevado a que los gibraltareños vuelvan a residir en Gibraltar sin pasar la frontera más que en aquellos casos estrictamente necesarios. Me imagino que residir dentro de una comunidad tan pequeña como la del peñón es menos agradable que la situación anterior. Por parte de España, las comunidades locales vecinas de Gibraltar también pierden. El hecho de que los gibraltareños ya no vengan a España con la misma asiduidad de antes significa que el comercio e inversiones de la zona se resiente. Pero el auténtico campo de batalla de esta nueva situación desagradable e indeseada es la frontera existente con la colonia y las largas colas que se producen para atravesar la misma. A diario leemos artículos en la prensa sobre las denuncias que se realizan en la Unión Europea y de las visitas que sus funcionarios realizan en la zona. Precisamente conocíamos hace dos días el último informe de la Comisión “ad hoc” que solicitaba a España una racionalización de los controles fronterizos para evitar las largas colas que se forman. Una de estas medidas de racionalización la encontramos en la Resolución del 25 de julio de 2014 del Departamento de Aduanas e Impuestos Especiales de la Agencia Estatal de Administración Tributaria española por la que se regula el supuesto especial de uso del circuito
rojo en el tráfico de viajeros en la Administración de Aduanas de La Línea de la Concepción. Como todo el mundo sabe, existe un Reglamento de la Comisión de 2 de julio de 1993 que regula sistemas simplificados de declaración presunta por parte de viajeros que atraviesen las fronteras. El uso de este sistema sustituye a la tradicional pregunta que la Guardia Civil nos hacía al pasar la frontera ¿algo que declarar? Pues bien, en la frontera con Gibraltar existen ambos pasillos y el problema es que casi todo el mundo utiliza el verde porque no tiene nada que declarar. De esta manera nos encontramos con un pasillo rojo completamente vacío y un pasillo verde completamente atorado. Teniendo en cuenta que los principales perjudicados de las colas en la frontera son los trabajadores, españoles o gibraltareños, que van a trabajar a Gibraltar, la Resolución que hemos mencionado anteriormente trata de darles una solución muy inteligente a mi juicio (al menos en su vertiente jurídica). En síntesis lo que se trata es habilitar a estas personas, los llamados “trabajadores transfronterizos” a pasar por el circuito rojo aun cuando no tengan nada que declarar mediante una autorización especial expedida por la Administración de Aduanas. Comentar que el concepto de trabajador transfronterizo viene establecido por la Directiva 2007/74 del Consejo de 20 de diciembre de 2007 y que se trata por tanto de la aplicación de una normativa pura y estrictamente europea. Además la Resolución establece el procedimiento de habilitación tanto para los trabajadores fronterizos residentes en Gibraltar como para los residentes en la Unión Europea por lo que la norma no puede ser tachada de discriminatoria. De esta manera y al poder usar los trabajadores fronterizos el circuito rojo, su paso por la frontera será totalmente fluido y sin tener ningún tipo de retención. Es una medida que tiende a paliar la crítica más importante que se le hacía a las colas de la frontera: el perjuicio que ello causaba a los trabajadores que residiendo en España pasaban a diario a Gibraltar para cumplir con sus diferentes empleos. Con ser esta una solución inteligente para un problema real, lo definitivo sería terminar con esta “guerra diplomática” y volver a los cauces anteriores de entendimiento y diálogo.
Queues at the Gibraltar border Ever since Mr Picardo took over as Chief Minister of Gibraltar, relations between the colony and Spain have suffered a swift and gradual decline. We must of course recognise that the first steps taken by his government were far from diplomatic (I refer to the concrete blocks dropped in areas where small Spanish fishing boats traditionally fish), and that from the Spanish side this was seen as a provocation. It has always been said that sovereignty over a rock is one thing, but existing neighbouring relations between two communities is another thing entirely. And although, as far as the former is concerned, it is very difficult to reach any kind of agreement, when it comes to the latter there should be no major complications, as long as there is always the greatest respect between the two parties. The dumping of the blocks was not due to any Gibraltarian need, and yet it posed great risks. What has happened is that this act has led us to the point in which, as almost always happens in these kinds of political disputes, the only losers have been the citizens who live on either side of the border. The Gibraltarian community are affected because the Spanish government has launched a tax audit campaign to standardise the situation of Gibraltarians who, though they reside in Spain the majority of the time, do not pay taxes here. This campaign is the source of countless misgivings that exist today, and has led to these Gibraltarians returning to live in Gibraltar, only crossing the border when strictly necessary. I imagine that living in as small a community as that of the rock is less agreeable that their previous situation. As for Spain, the local communities neighbouring Gibraltar also lose out. The fact that Gibraltarians now no longer come to Spain with the same regularity as before means that business and investments in the area have suffered. But the real battlefield is the new unpleasant and undesirable situation at the existing border with the colony, and the long queues endured by those trying to cross it. Every day we read articles in the media about condemnations from the European Union and the visits paid by its officials to the area. Just two days ago we learned about the latest "ad hoc" report from the Commission, which asked Spain to rationalise border controls in order to avoid long queues. One of these rationalisation measures comes in the form of the Resolution of 25 July
2014 from the Spanish State Tax Administration Agency's Department of Customs and Special Taxes regulating the special use of the red channel for passenger traffic at the La Línea de la Concepción Customs Administration. As we all know, there exists a Commission Regulation of 2 July 1993 that mandates a simplified declaration system for travellers crossing borders. In practice, this presupposes the existence of a "red" channel, where it is assumed that anyone passing through it will have something to declare, and a "green" channel where it is assumed that anyone passing through it has nothing to declare. The use of this system replaces the traditional question asked by the Guardia Civil whenever we cross the border: anything to declare? As it is, there are both channels at the Gibraltar border, the problem being that almost everyone uses the green channel because they have nothing to declare. Therefore we have a completely empty red channel, and a green channel that is completely blocked up. Given that the main victims of these border queues are the workers, Spanish or Gibraltarian, going to work in Gibraltar, the aforementioned Resolution seems, to me, a very smart solution (at least from a legal aspect). In short, what this is attempting to do is to allow these people, the so-called "frontier-zone workers", to pass through the red channel even when they have nothing to declare, through a special authorisation issued by the Customs Administration. It should be mentioned that the concept of the frontier-zone worker was established by the Council Directive 2007/74 of 20 December 2007, and is therefore the application of a purely and strictly European regulation. The Resolution also establishes the authorisation procedure for frontier-zone workers resident both in Gibraltar as well as residents of the European Union, so the rule cannot be criticised as discriminatory. In this way, enabling frontier-zone workers to use the red channel means that crossing the border for them will be completely fluid and without any delay. It is a measure that aims to mitigate the most serious criticism made regarding queues at the border: the damage caused to workers who reside in Spain but travel daily to Gibraltar for their various jobs. As an intelligent solution to a real problem, this should absolutely put an end to this "diplomatic war", and mark a return to the previous courses of understanding and dialogue.

El Hotel Marítimo de Sotogrande acogió la presentación del libro “Cartas de Sotogrande”, de Joaquín Santaella. El acto contó con la asistencia, además del autor, del doctor en Ciencias Económicas Carlos Rodríguez Braun y la decoradora Sylvia Melián, miembro de la primera familia que se instaló en Sotogrande. Joaquín Santaella señaló que este libro “es el encargo más bonito que me han hecho en mi vida profesional. Edinexus, una estupenda editorial andaluza, me lo propuso con motivo del cincuenta aniversario de Sotogrande. Yo tenía un material inmenso, una serie de cartas
con una amiga americana que siempre me hacía la pregunta del millón: ¿qué haces en Sotogrande, donde supuestamente no hay nada que hacer más que rascarse la tripa y jugar al golf?”, explicó. “Sin mayores pretensiones que dar información y entretenimiento cuento el día a día en Sotogrande, dividiendo el libro en las cuatro partes naturales del año: otoño, invierno, primavera y verano. Van saliendo todo tipo de personajes riquísimos, pero no sólo en el sentido pecuniario, sino por su profundidad. Salen las vivencias y sentir de los camareros y de cualquier otra persona”, matizó.
En su opinión, la vida en Sotogrande “está marcada por la rareza de no vivir ni en el campo ni en la ciudad. Después de cincuenta años se ha creado una sociedad diversa en la que hay un poco de todo, y que está indudablemente marcada por su entorno. Hoy en día Sotogrande no sería nada sin los pueblos de alrededor, y esas poblaciones se han enriquecido con esta sociedad multicultural que ha ido evolucionando. Precisamente ahora estamos entrando en una nueva fase de la historia de Sotogrande que no puedo todavía denominar porque estamos en sus inicios”, sentenció.

The Hotel Marítimo de Sotogrande hosted the presentation of the book “Cartas de Sotogrande” (“Letters from Sotogrande”) by Joaquín Santaella. Besides the author, the event included the participation of doctor of Economic Science Carlos Rodríguez Braun and the interior designer Sylvia Melián, a member of the first family that moved to Sotogrande. Joaquín Santaella stated that this book “is the most beautiful commission of I've ever had in my career. Edinexus, a fantastic Andalusian publishing house, approached me about doing it on the occasion of Sotogrande's fiftieth anniversary. I had an enormous amount of material: a series of letters I wrote to an American friend who always asked me the million-dollar question- What are you doing in Sotogrande, when there's supposedly nothing to do there besides playing golf and twiddling your thumbs?” he explained. “Intending simply to provide
information and entertain, I describe day-to-day life in Sotogrande, dividing the book into the four stages of the year: autumn, winter, spring and summer. All kinds of rich characters appear, not only rich in the financial sense but in terms of their depth. It covers the experiences and impressions of waiters and all sorts of other people,” he offered. In his opinion, life in Sotogrande “is characterised by the strangeness of living in what is neither the country nor the city. Over fifty years a diverse society has been created where you can find a little bit of everything. It's undoubtedly characterised by its surroundings. Nowadays Sotogrande wouldn't be anything without the surrounding villages, and those towns have been enriched with the multicultural society that has developed. Right now we are entering a new phase in the history of Sotogrande that I can't yet name because we are only at its beginnings,” he concluded.

La Casa Club de La Cañada Golf muestra la exposición “En mi retina”, de la algecireña Esther Ramos Blanquer. La selección “En mi retina” emite un gran dominio de la figuración, con técnicas de realización frescas, coloristas, directas y dinámicas. Una exposición que atrapa al espectador y le invita a viajar a tierras desconocidas y no tanto, ya que algunas reflejan estampas características de la zona. Ramos Blanquer comparte así sus experiencias y sensaciones vividas durante sus viajes por España, Marruecos, Grecia, Vietnam, Egipto, Japón y la India. Invita directamente a desconectar del día a día y emprender un viaje lleno de fantasías. Toda su obra navega por mundos exóticos y sugerentes que dejan una impronta evidente en sus lienzos, llenos de color, dinamismo y explosión cromática, cuyo mensaje subliminal es: la vida en sí misma, como la solemos recordar, como se nos queda grabada

All her work navigates exotic, suggestive worlds that leave an obvious mark on her canvases full of colour, dynamism and chromatic explosion. Their subliminal message is: This is life in itself, as we usually remember it, as it
remains recorded on our retinas. Esther Ramos Blanquer was born in the city of Algeciras. She studied interior design and decoration, advertising art and fine art and is the daughter of the late José Ramos Zambrana, artist and professor of drawing, who she considers her “gran maestro.” At present she is a creative director at various advertising agencies, having dedicated her whole life to the world of images, communication and design.

The event was organised by the Municipal Library Network. The show involved storytelling, with tales from different cultures around the
world. Recuento specialises in storytelling, offering hourlong sessions that are often accompanied by live music. They have participated in numerous festivals all over Spain and Portugal and have run many activities for museums, book fairs and libraries as well as recordings of stories for Canal Sur.

Cult of the Horse in the paddocks
1.- Antes de la llegada de los equinos, los petiseros preparan detalladamente todos los arreos que van a necesitar para cada uno. Un jugador suele montar de siete a diez caballos por partido. Así que en un palenque se pueden concentrar un mínimo de treinta caballos.
There exists a whole liturgy surrounding the preparation of a horse for a polo match. Here, we offer a glimpse of a wonderful report we are preparing for the next edition of La Revista de Sotogrande.
1.- Before the horses arrive, the stable hands carefully prepare all the tack they will need for each one. A player normally rides seven to ten horses per match, so in the paddocks there may be a minimum of thirty horses.

Astrid Muñoz presenta su exposición de Gauchos en la Carpa Principal de Los Pinos La modelo y fotoperiodista Astrid Muñoz presenta el próximo lunes, 18 de agosto a partir de as 20:00 horas en la Carpa Principal de la zona de Los Pinos de Santa María Polo Club, una doble exposición de fotografía que recoge desde el objetivo visiones muy especiales de dos enclaves muy ricos y diferentes. La exhibición estará disponible durante la celebración de la Copa de Oro. Por un lado, en el área VIP de Los Pinos, estará expuesta
una colección de retratos de los gauchos argentinos inmersos en su vida y trabajo, una estampa por la que parece no haber pasado el tiempo. “Desde 2008 trabajaba en esta idea. Plasmar ese arte en el que se convierte la labor de los gauchos me atrajo mucho. Son 12 imágenes tomadas en un momento clave de la vida del gaucho y en la que se puede apreciar la entereza de ese mundo”, explica la propia Astrid sobre su obra. La segunda muestra, que
se podrá contemplar en la zona del Afterpolo, se trata de una colección de macro fotografía (con un tamaño de 2 m. por 1,5 m.) que recoge una representación más artística del entorno que ofrece la impresionante Isla de Skye. “Es una recopilación con un toque más artístico, que invita a la persona a meterse dentro de la imagen y buscar su propia interpretación del paisaje y la naturaleza. Está inspirada en el clima y tiene una lectura más personal ”, detalla.
Astrid Muñoz presents her Gauchos exhibition in the Carpa Principal at Los Pinos In the Carpa Principal at Santa María de los Pinos Polo Club, from 8pm on Monday 18th August, model and photojournalist Astrid Muñoz presents double exhibition of her photography, her lens capturing very particular views of two different and very resonant worlds. The exhibition will remain open throughout the Copa de Oro (Gold Cup). On the one hand, the VIP area of Los Pinos will host a collection of portrayals of Argentinean gauchos immersed in their life and work, a world where time seems to have stood still. As Astrid herself explains: “I had been working on this idea since 2008, and really
wanted to capture the artistry that exists in the work of the gaucho. The twelve pictures are taken at key moments in a gaucho’s life, and allow us to sense the inner integrity of their world”. The second part of the exhibition, which can be seen in the Afterpolo area, is a collection of large-scale (2m x 1.5m) images offering a more artistic representation of the surroundings to be found in the amazing Isle of Skye. “It is a collection in a more artistic vein, inviting the viewer to place themselves within the image and to look for their own
interpretation of the countryside and the natural environment. It is inspired by the climate and communicates on a more personal level”, she adds.

Ante un centenar de invitados en una tarde espléndida de agosto, la comitiva de socios mixtos “Destino Punta del Este” socializó en el Corporate Lounge del Torneo, mientras seguían atentos la disputa del partido entre Halcyon
Gallery y King Power que finalmente ganó la formación tailandesa por 15 goles a 7. Nicolás Kovalenko, de Bodega Garzón, entregó el trofeo honorífico al polista Espain. Pablo Lamaison, del Grupo Pablo Lamaisón hizo lo mismo con Marco Di Paola. Álvaro Manzino, de Chic Collection, entregó la copa a Muzzio y, finalmente, Ramón de Isequilla como representante de la intendencia de Maldonado, entregó el título al patrón

King Power Wins the II Destino Punta del Este Cup Santa María Polo Club and the 43rd Land Rover International Polo Tournament were hosts to the awarding of the II Copa Destino Punta del Este, on the fifth day of the Copa de Plata Silex (Silex Silver Cup). Before an invited audience of a hundred people, on a splendid August evening, the mixed membership “Destino Punta del Este” mingled in the Tournament’s Corporate Lounge as they closely followed developments in the match between Halcyon Gallery and King Power, which was finally won by the Thai team by 15 goals to 7. Nicolás Kovalenko, from Bodega Garzón, awarded the honorary player tro-
phy to Espain. Pablo Lamaison, from Grupo Pablo made a similar award to Marco di Paola. Álvaro Manzino, of Chic Collection, handed the cup to Muzzio and, finally, Ramón Isequilla, representing the Intendencia of Maldonado, presented the title to the owner Tom Srivaddhannaprabha. To end proceedings, the President of Destino Punta del Este, Leonardo Carbonell, gave the team leader the large Cup, to mark their victory at Sotogrande’s afternoon of polo. Nueva reforma fiscal: novedades en la tributación en la indemnización por despido Hasta la fecha, las indemnizaciones por despido estaban exentas en la cuantía establecida con carácter obligatorio en el Estatuto de los Trabajadores en su normativa de desarrollo o, en su caso, en la normativa reguladora de la ejecución de sentencias, en ningún caso la cuantía establecida por convenio colectivo, pacto o contrato. Con la nueva reforma fiscal, llevada a cabo por el Gobierno el pasado 1 de Agosto de 2014, se ha aprobado un nuevo Proyecto de Ley, que modifica a su precedente Anteproyecto, recogiendo así un conjunto de medidas por las que se rebaja la carga fiscal a 20 millones de contribuyentes, sobre todo de rentas medias y bajas. Dichas medidas consisten en modificar la ya derogada tributación de indemnizaciones por despido establecidas en el Estatuto de los Trabajadores, que consistían en la exención de una cantidad equivalente a la indemnización de vente días por año de servicio, prorrateados por meses los periodos de tiempo inferiores a un año y con un máximo de doce mensualidades, en el supuesto de despidos por causas objetivas y, en el supuesto de despidos declarados por sentencia firme como improcedentes, en la exención equivalente a la indemnización de treinta días de salario por año de servicio, prorrateándose por meses los periodos de tiempo inferiores a un año, hasta un máximo de veinticuatro
mensualidades. Con el nuevo Proyecto de Ley, en vigor desde el pasado 1 de Agosto, se establece, como mínimo exento la cantidad de 180.000 euros; de esta forma, mantendrán la exención plena en el IRPF las indemnizaciones por despido que sean Patricia Larrain Alba inferiores a dicha cifra. Economista/Director Por lo que respecta a las indemnizaciones supe- patricialarrain@contasult.com riores a 180.000 euros, el exceso tendrá la consideración de renta irregular (siempre que se haya generado en un período superior a dos años), reduciéndose la parte sujeta en un 30 por 100 (con el límite de base de 300.000 euros.). Cabe destacar, como significativa novedad en esta reforma fiscal, la posibilidad de aplicar este coeficiente de reducción (30%) a las indemnizaciones que se obtengan de manera fraccionada en varios años. With the new tax reform, approved by the government on 1 August 2014, a new draft law has been approved, which amends the previous preliminary draft, and brings together a range of measures by which the tax burden for 20 million taxpayers will be lowered, especially for those on low and middle incomes. This measures involve modifying the already exempted taxation of severance pay established in the Workers' Statute, which consisted of the exemption of an amount equivalent to the pay of twenty days per year of service, prorated by month for periods of less than one year, and with a maximum of twelve months, in the case of dismissals on objective grounds; in the case of dismissals which have been as unfair, in the
exemption equivalent to the pay of thirty days of salary per year of service, prorated by month for periods of less than one year, with a maximum of twenty-four months. With the new draft law, in force since 1 August, the minimum exemption for severance pay is 180,000 euros; thereby maintaining full exemption for personal tax allowance for severance payments less than that figure. As regards severance payments above 180,000 euros, the excess shall be considered as irregular income (provided it has been generated over a period exceeding two years), reducing the taxable portion to 30% (with a base limit of 300,000 euros). A notable development of this tax reform is the possibility of applying this rate of reduction (30%) to severance pay which is received in instalments over several years. Una magnífica cita que congregó a cerca de un centenar de participantes en pugna por uno de los grandes premios del verano en Sotogrande, un viaje para dos personas de una semana al paradisíaco destino uruguayo de Punta del Este que cayó en manos de James Boucher gracias a la Mejor Tarjeta Handicap de la competición.
En el plano deportivo, el resto de premiados fueron: José Luis Sánchez (Premio a la Bola más cercana) y Patricia Domínguez y Juan Cruz (Drive más largo en Damas y Caballeros). En la Categoría Damas, la ganadora fue Lulú Pouroulis, seguida de Beatriz Luna. En Primera Categoría de Caballeros, Miguel Orran se llevó la victoria con Tomás FernándezLlorente como segundo clasificado. Y por último, en Segunda Categoría de Caballeros el triunfo fue para Alejandro Muzzio seguido de
Francisco Funes. The fantastic Los LagosAlcornoque course at Almenara Golf club was the perfect setting for the second Destination Punta del Este golf tournament. It was a wonderful event that brought together close to one hundred players who fought it out for one of the best prizes on offer this year in Sotogrande, a trip for two people for a week in the paradise that is Punta del Este in Uruguay. The prize was eventually snapped up by James Boucher thanks to his competition-beating handicap. The other winners were: José Luis Sánchez (closest to the pin) and Patricia Domínguez and Juan Cruz (longest drive Ladies and Gentlemen). In the Ladies category, the winner was Lulú Pouroulis, followed by Beatriz
Luna. In the Gentlemen’s first category, Miguel Orran took the top spot, followed by Tomás Fernández-Llorente in second. And finally, in the Gentlemen’s second category, victory went to Alejandro Muzzio, with Francisco Funes coming in second. It was a wonderful day of sport that was played using Medal Play rules. The event lasted right into the night, with a cocktail evening and awards ceremony at Cortijo Los Canos. During the greatly enjoyable evening, both players and a number of invited local business people had the opportunity to meet the team from Destination Punta del Este who were here in Sotogrande for the second year running as guests of Grupo HCP.

La XV edición de la Regata Copa Sotogrande Rives se disputará entre el próximo 15 y 17 de agosto en aguas de Sotogrande, acogiendo además el Campeonato de Andalucía Cruceros ORC, siendo ésta una de las citas más tradicionales cada verano en el mes de agosto. En la regata, podrán participar todos aquellos barcos con certificado válido de ORC 2014.
Además, de todos los barcos de la clase crucero y también está abierta la competición para la clase Monotipo, contando siempre con un mínimo de cinco barcos de inscritos. En cuanto al calendario, el 14 de agosto será el registro de participantes y la entrega de instrucciones. Ya para el día 15, tras la reunión de patrones, comenzarán las pruebas a partir de las 13:00 horas. En la jornada del 16 de

La XIII edición del Abierto de Golf de El Periódico de Sotogrande, disputada en el fantástico trazado de Almenara Golf de Alcornoque-Los Lagos, congregó a nada menos que 120 personas en una edición para el recuerdo de una de las citas más tradicionales del verano golfístico en Sotogrande. Bajo la modalidad Texas Scramble, los participantes disfrutaron de una divertida y simpática competición con el mejor ambiente. Un campo espectacular y una jornada vibrante de golf en Almenara para los participantes. Además, como es habitual en los eventos que organiza
Grupo HCP, los jugadores disfrutaron de mucho más que golf, con un ‘Welcome Pack’ para cada participante, trofeos, premios, regalos y por supuesto un exquisito cóctel. En el que el nuevo Smart de Grupo HCP, fue el foco de muchas de las fotografías y buenos momentos del día. En el plano deportivo, la pareja formada por Diego Wyss y Fernando Ros, se llevó el triunfo en la Primera Categoría, quedando en segundo lugar Sancho Rodríguez y José Andrés Rodríguez. The XIII edition of the El Periódico de Sotogrande Golf Open was a great success with wonderful atmosphere. The tournament was played on the fantastic Alcornoque-Los Lagos route at Almenara Golf and drew no less than 120 people for a memorable edition of one of Sotogrande's most traditional summer golf events. Played as Texas Scramble, the competition was fun and friendly with participants enjoying an exciting day of golf in Almenara on a spectacular course with great atmosphere. In addition, as is to be expected at events organised by the HCP Group, players enjoyed much more than just golf. There were welcome packs for each participant, trophies, prizes, gifts and of course an exquisite cocktail party where the HCP Group's new Smart car proved to be very popular.
In terms of the competition, the couple formed by Diego Wyss and Fernando Ros won the First Category with Sancho Rodríguez and José Andrés Rodríguez taking second place. La comunidad del golf se vuelca con el II Torneo Cáritas en La Reserva de Sotogrande xz M. G. La segunda edición del Torneo Cáritas, disputado este año en el fantástico trazado de La Reserva de Sotogrande (el pasado año se celebró en Almenara Golf), supuso un gran éxito al contar con más de un centenar de jugadores que no quisieron perder la oportunidad de disfrutar de una gran jornada de golf y de colaborar con el distrito de Cáritas del Valle del Guadiaro. Con una recaudación total de 12.400 euros, una cifra inmejorable compara-
dos con los algo más de 3.000 euros de la primera edición, dejan patente que esta cita toma peso en el verano de Sotogrande con su carácter solidario. Cifra de la cual 5.000 euros fueron aportados por La Caixa, colaborador del evento. La cantidad fue recibida por el Padre Agustín Borrell de manos de José María López-Elola, presidente de La Reserva de Sotogrande, y agradeció a todos los presentes el compromiso de su aportación así como a las marcas colaboradoras y a la
organización, explicando el destino de ese dinero a familias necesitada. En el plano deportivo, se dieron dos tiros para los cerca de 120 jugadores. El ganador en la Categoría Scratch fue Javier Reviriego y Alexander Reid se adjudicó la Categoría Junior. En cuanto a la Primera Categoría, el triunfo fue para Pier Luigi Sigismundi, seguido de Diego Hombravella. Y en Segunda Categoría, la victoria se la llevó Antonio Morales, con Francisco Sato en segunda posición.

day of golf and the chance to contribute to the wonderful work being done by Cáritas Valle del Guadiaro. This charity event has now consolidated its position on the Sotogrande summer calendar, this year raising a total of ¤12,400,
compared with last year’s ¤3,000. Out of this year’s total, ¤5,000 was donated by La Caixa, the event’s sponsor. The money was received by Father Agustín Borrell, who thanked all those present for their commitment and generosity. He

DESDE EL BUNKER “El golf mantiene la misma esencia en su juego con el paso de los años” xz Manuel Gil
La sección ‘Desde el Búnker’ de El Periódico de Sotogrande se detiene en esta ocasión ante un personaje que proyecta la imagen de una vida dedicada y entrelazada con el golf a todos los niveles. Desde sus comienzos como caddie y jugador profesional a la dedicación por enseñar y formar nuevos jugadores, Manuel Ocaña mantiene viva su pasión por el golf y por un campo, el Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, al que dice ha visto “desde el primer día hasta hoy”. “Yo comencé como caddie en el golf en 1965, de la mano de la aparición del Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. Muchos de los chicos nos fuimos aficionando al golf pero jugábamos dónde podíamos, en La Cañada con hoyos en la tierra e incluso en la playa de Guadalquitón. Y de esta manera, poco a poco me fui involucrando cada vez más”, explica sobre el comienzo de su relación con este deporte. “Y unos años más tarde, en un campeonato de caddies del Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, en el que acabé tercero, los diez primeros clasificados conseguimos poder jugar por las mañanas en el club”, dice, “pero muy tempra-
no, a las ocho de la mañana ya estábamos jugando”, añade. “Y esto del golf me gustó tanto y que esa afició me llevó a convertirme en profesional”. Sobre su etapa como jugador en el Tour, Manuel explica que los nervios lograron traicionarlo en más de una ocasión. “Juan Quirós y yo comenzamos a jugar el Tour pero yo era muy nervioso y más de una vez me jugó una mala pasada. Y decidí convertirme en profesor”, matizó. Respecto a la situación del golf en la zona y a la salida de nuevos jugadores, Ocaña es muy optimista. “Cada vez hay más chicos que juegan al golf y salen mucho más preparados que antes, aunque yo mantengo que el golf no ha cambiado la manera de jugar con los años. Sí los materiales y es muy positivo contar con todos los adelantos de hoy, pero la esencia del juego se mantiene igual tras tantos años”, explica. “Las federaciones hacen un buen trabajo para apoyar a los jugadores, el golf goza de buena salud”, detalla. Pese a llevar toda una vida jugando y dedicado a este deporte, Manuel afirma que sigue con las mismas ganas que el primer

día. “El gusanillo sigue igual desde que comencé a jugar. El golf transmite una sensación única, como nada en la vida. Me sigue gustando aún más y del mismo modo que también enseñar y formar jugadores”, dice. “Y por supuesto que eso conlleva una serie de sacrificios, del tipo personales y familiares, pero da
la casualidad de que esa misma pasión también la vive mi mujer, que juega, y mis hijos. Por lo que el golf forma parte de mi familia”, admite. Con un cuestionario en corto, Manuel Ocaña no tiene dudas de que su campo predilecto es el Real Club de Golf Sotogrande y que un gran recuerdo unido al
golf es “la cantidad de personas y amigos que he hecho gracias a él”. Admite que tenía la manía de jugar con la bola número tres y “en un torneo en Alcaidesa no tenía, jugué con la 4 y gané el torneo [bromea], así es esto”. Y el contacto con la naturaleza, una de las mejores cosas que ofrece el golf.

From his beginnings as a caddy, through being a professional player, to the passion of teaching and training new players. Manuel Ocaña’s passion is still just as strong for golf, and for one club, Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, which he says he has enjoyed “from the first day until today”. “I started as a golf caddy in 1965, coinciding with the opening of the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. A lot of the boys became fans of golf, but we would play when we could, at La Cañada with holes in the ground
and even on the beach in Guadalquitón. Through this I began to like the game more and more”, he explains on the start of his relationship with the sport. “And a few years later, in the Real Club de Sotogrande caddies championship, where I finished third, the top ten finishers were allowed to play at the club in the mornings”, he says, “but very early, at eight in the morning we were already playing” he adds. “And I liked it so much that my passion for the game and I became a professional. Regarding his time as a player on tour, Manuel explains that his nerves got the better of him on more than one occasion. “Juan
Quirós and I started to play on the tour, but I was very nervous and more than once I suffered because of it. I decided to become a teacher”, he revealed. On the situation of golf in the area and the breakthrough of new players, Ocaña is very optimistic. “There are increasingly more kids playing golf and they are much better prepared than before, although I maintain that the way golf is played has not changed with time. The equipment has and the advances are positive, but the essence of the game is the same after all these years”, he explains. “The federations have done a good job of supporting the players, golf is in good health”, he assures.
Despite a lifetime dedicated to golf, Manuel says that he is just as enthusiastic as on the first day. “I’ve had the bug since I started to play. Golf gives you a unique feeling, like nothing else in life. I still like it more and more and the same applies to teaching and coaching players”, he says. “And of course, that brings with it a series of sacrifices, also personal and family ones, but coincidentally my wife has the same passion, she plays, and my children. Therefore golf forms part of my family life”, he admits. In a short questionnaire, Manuel Ocaña was in no doubt that his favourite course is Real Club de Golf Sotogrande and
one of his greatest memories in golf is “the number of people and friends I have met through it”. He admits that he always plays with a number three ball and “in a tournament in Alcaidesa I didn’t have one, I played with a four and I won the tournament [laughs]”. And the contact with nature is one of the best things in golf.

Sotogrande International Golf Academy (SIGA) anunció el fantástico acuerdo con la Universidad de Miami, por el cual su jugadora Maria Parra será becada para desarrollar sus estudios y formar parte del equipo de la universidad durante los proximos cuatro años de una manera totalmente gratuita. Dicho acuerdo, según informa la academia, se ha ido materializando durante los dos ultimos años en el Doral Publix en Miami, donde SIGA ha conseguido magníficos resultados, como el título conseguido en 2013, pero no se ha podido anunciar antes por los estatuos universitarios americanos. Actualmente, Maria, es campeona del Ranking Nacional sub 18, con 16 años,
y logró en su último torneo disputado con la selección nacional, el Campeonato de Europa, una meritoria quinta plaza. El consejo farmaceutico Cuidado con el sol El sol emite diferentes tipos de radiaciones entre las que destacan los rayos ultravioletas. Los rayos ultravioleta B (UVB) son las radicaciones de mayor energía, pero penetran poco en la piel. Son responsables del eritema o enrojecimiento, y desencadenan el proceso del verdadero bronceado. Las radiaciones ultravioleta A (UVA) poseen menor energía, pero penetran profundamente en la piel y son responsables de la aparición de la pigmentación inmediata. Además, juegan un papel esencial en el desencadenamiento de las alergias solares, de las reacciones fototóxicas y, a largo plazo, del fotoenvejecimiento de la piel. La exposición sin las debidas precauciones al sol, puede provocar insolaciones, quemaduras, envejecimiento prematuro de la piel, alteraciones del sistema inmunitario, afecciones oculares y cáncer de piel. Para evitar todos estos efectos adversos de la exposición al sol se ha desarrollado un tipo de cosméticos conocidos como protectores solares o fotoprotectores. El fotoprotector debe ser personalizado en función de tres tipos de factores. En primer lugar factores ambientales como la hora del día, la estación del año o la situación atmosférica. Las características individuales también deben tenerse en cuenta, es decir, la edad, el tipo de piel o el fototipo. A la hora de elegir el fotoprotector se debe tener siempre en cuenta la tipología cutánea. Así, el fototipo I incluye a las personas con la piel extremadamente blanca, y el fototipo II a quienes tienen la piel clara, ojos azules y pelo rubio. Las personas de piel clara, ojos castaños y pelo oscuro se incluyen en el fototipo III. El fototipo IV hace mención a pieles ligeramente morenas, el fototipo V a pieles morena y, por último el fototipo VI a pieles negras.
Beware of the sun The sun emits various types of radiation, including ultraviolet rays. Ultraviolet B (UVB) rays are the most powerful radiations, but dot penetrate the skin very deeply. They are responsible for erythema or reddening, and trigger the tanning process. Ultraviolet A (UVA) have less energy but penetrate the skin more deeply and they are responsible for the onset of immediate pigment darkening. They play an essential role in triggering solar allergies, phototoxic reactions and long-term photoageing of the skin. Exposure to the sun without taking proper precautions can cause sunstroke, burns, premature ageing of the skin, immune-system disorders, eye diseases and skin cancer. To avoid these adverse effects of exposure to the sun, cosmetics known as sunscreens have been developed. Different sunscreens must be used to account for various factors. First of all there are environmental factors like the time of day, the season and atmospheric conditions. Individual characteristics must also be taken into account, namely age and skin type or phototype. When choosing a sunscreen you should always take skin type into account. Phototype I corresponds to people with extremely pale skin, and Phototype II encompasses people with fair skin, blue eyes and blonde hair. People with fair skin, brown eyes and dark hair are included in Phototype III. Phototype IV corresponds to fairly dark skin, Phototype V to dark skin and finally Phototype VI to black skin.
