Oversee the production of the weekly newspaper, managing an $80,000 budget and a staff of 20. Coordinate layout, photo, web and copy editors and the advertising and distribution managers. Assign content on a weekly basis, edit stories and report to the publication board monthly. Large projects include the creation of a searchable salary database of the University of Alaska system as well as the continued pursuit of the separation of newspaper from student government. Created the layout for the content of 28 issues, built graphics for articles and website, designed all in-house advertising, managed photographers, edited and re-sized photos as needed for print and online publishing. Created the first in-house system for measuring costs and content of each issue of the paper and monitoring trends in topics covered and demographics of people interviewed in stories. Internship with the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner
Summer 2010
Wrote articles, created online maps to accompany reporters’ stories, and produced a full feature package for the “Sundays” section, including reporting, writing, photographing, audio recording and producing Soundslides. Worked primarily with the online content director.
