Message from the Principal We have once more reached the end of another fantastic year. Our Academy has moved forward significantly in all areas; the quality of teaching and learning, behaviour of students and the attainment and progress our students are achieving.

Summer 2014

Throughout the year we have seen our work develop students’ confidence, provide new and exciting opportunities and continue to provide students with a consistent diet of good teaching. The popularity of the Academy continues to grow. Our Open Events were attended by a huge number of parents and potential students. Year 7 for 2015/16 again shows a significant increase in number and thus our Academy is now beginning to grow in reputation and become the first choice for many local parents. Throughout the year, the Academy has been involved in many fantastic events. Our students take part in Inter-Faculty competitions, A.E.E. trips to historical places and represent the Academy in London wide competitions. One of the highlights of our programmes for me personally, was the C.I.T. events (Cake Intellectual Discussion and Tea). We have seen an event take place each half term, with hundreds of students applying. The finalists were taken to the world famous Dorchester Hotel to experience a world class ’Afternoon Tea’ whilst we concluded the final. The debate was fascinating and made it very difficult for me to select a winner!

London EBacc Conference July 7th 2014 The Academy has taken another giant stride in our quest to become ‘Outstanding’ in all areas. Next year will see additional initiatives implemented to continue our development, such as introducing Chess in Form Tutor time for Year 7 students. Latin, Mandarin and Korean lessons will also be available to those wishing to learn new languages, alongside those available within the Rosetta Stone software, which is available to all students at the Academy. We are also developing our sports programme. There will be regular Saturday morning training or fixtures for members of our sports teams alongside new sporting clubs each evening of the week. They will include Archery, Fencing and Martial Arts. As I have said during many presentations to parents, our students deserve the very best teaching and the very best opportunities outside of the classroom. We firmly believe the addition of the activities listed above, will enhance our offer even further.

C.I.T. Finalists at The Dorchester Hotel Our teaching staff led London wide projects to help other schools develop as quickly as we have. On July 7th we had over 60 schools attend a conference at Harris Academy Morden to spend the day working with our teachers. We are very proud of our work to date and the recognition we are receiving for it.

With all of the hard work by our staff members and students throughout this year, the summer break is well and truly deserved! I hope all members of our Harris Community enjoy a relaxing break, recharge the batteries and come back in September ready to make even more progress.

Finally, please note the Academy will re-open for existing Equally on Tuesday 14th July, we held our first ‘TeachMeet’ event. students on Thursday 4th September at the normal This event provided teachers from across London the opportunity time. Our new Year 7 and Year 12 students will start on Wednesday 3rd September to allow for registration, to attend Harris Academy Morden and listen to experts in enrolment and testing procedures to be completed. the field of EAL (English as an Additional Language) and share examples of best practice with our teaching colleagues across London. The event was very popular and we intend to host many Mr Mallin Principal more next year.
