NEW RELEASE HIGHLIGHTS On Aparté, countertenor Xavier Sabata vividly captures moments of catharsis contained in the legendary stories of Baroque opera. On Channel Classics, British period instrument ensemble Florilegium joins forces with leading lyric soprano Gillian Keith for stylish performances of Handel chamber works. British pianist Ivana Gavric makes her Edition Classics debut with an all-Chopin program. On harmonia mundi, violist Antoine Tamestit is joined by pianist Cédric Tiberghien in a program that reveals how the viola emerged from the violin’s shadow. Les Arts Florissants's Madrigali & Altri canti box set is a retrospective of the group's fifteen-year journey exploring the music of Monteverdi. On Hyperion, Jonathan Cohen leads Arcangelo in Couperin's L'Apothéose de Lully, Howard Shelley performs three overlooked virtuoso works by Carl Czerny and 2015 Honens Prize Laureate Luca Buratto makes his label début with an all-Schumann program. Works by Schumann are also featured on a La Dolce Volta new release featuring legendary French pianist Jean-Philippe Collard. At the court of Versailles, the daughters of Louis XV, known as Mesdames, devoted themselves to the regular practice of music. Numerous composers, including Rameau and Balbastre, performed for them, worked with them and dedicated works to them. One daughter in particular, Adélaïde, demonstrated great talent. This program from harpsichordist Olivier Baumont and violinist Julien Chauvin features compositions by Simon, Dauvergne, Rameau, Balbastre, Guignon and Cardon – works often heard in the palace drawing room.

This new recording from Orange Mountain Music features violin concertos by two of the most popular composers of the 20th Century — Philip Glass and Leonard Bernstein. Glass’s first violin concerto from 1987 is among composer’s best known works for the concert hall having been performed and recorded by violinists like Gidon Kremer and Robert McDuffie. Now thirty years after its composition, it is considered to be a new classic of our time. A concerto in all but name, the same can be said for Bernstein's luscious Serenade (after Plato's Symposium) for solo violin, strings, harp and percussion, written in 1954. These two masterpieces are performed by world renowned violinist Renaud Capuçon accompanied by the Bruckner Orchester Linz under the direction of Glass specialist Dennis Russell Davies.
